Chapter 47: Silent Night…Before the Job

(and Bonus Story)

Far, far away…in a dark and quiet abyss, throughout all of the scene, not a creature was stirring. There was no sign of sound, movement, or anything else around at all. Not even any light. Until suddenly, a massive spotlight appeared, and below it were a small group of birds.

Two of them were blue macaws that looked as young as chicks, plus three toucans. One of them looked as young as the blue macaws, while the other two were a pair of full grown adults. They all appeared to be talking, laughing, and smiling while at the same time, the chicks were playing with some toys. Their names were Blu and Jewel (the macaws), and Eva, Carlos, and Sophia (the toucans).

One of them chuckled and said, "Hehe. This is great. Thanks again for bringing us in here, Carlos."

The one that said that was little Blu, and the bird he spoke with was Carlos the Toucan.

He replied, "Your welcome, Blu. I'm glad you guys like it so far. Especially at this time of year."

Then Jewel, "Well, I especially love it. I don't think I've ever had this much fun with toys, much less human toys, before in my life. Ooh, by the way. Blu, would you like to play 'Prince and Princess vs Dragon' with me?"

She smiled deeply while holding a plush dragon toy in front of Blu. Noticing Blu blush, feeling nervous when she always talked like that, and stuttered, "Uh, uh…sure. I'll play with you, Jewel."

"Ooh, can I play too?" Said Eva. "Maybe two princesses will motivate Blu enough to work as a proper prince."

"Huh?" Blu started blushing even more, and said, "Wait, wait." As Jewel and Eva took him by his wings, bringing him to another side of the area they were all in while Carlos and Sophia laughed.

"You think he'll be okay?" Sophia asked Carlos.

"Yeah I think so." He replied. "Blu's a strong prince. Though Jewel and Eva are both known to be stubborn princesses."

"I do not doubt that. Especially since their fathers are known to be the same." Sophia chuckled.

"Ye…hey." Carlos glared from the joke. "Har-har."

Sophia still laughed, and she and Carlos both observed their kids, watching them do some roleplaying. Though Blu felt nervous, thinking he was playing a prince that had to rescue two princesses, he somehow felt the need to not let fear stop him.

Jewel still held the plush dragon, acting it out while she and Eva also threw balls. Blu dodged every attack, feeling good trying to show off and think like a hero. So he kept at it, holding a small plastic sword. Then when he got closer, he jumped, striking the dragon, and made sure he didn't do the same to Jewel.

It was defeated, flopping down to the floor, and the two adult toucans and the other girls cheered, seeing Blu as the hero he tried to be. Despite his nervous feelings, he felt good and bowed in respect. Then froze when he felt his cheeks being pressed on by other lips, from none other than Jewel and Eva. They both kissed his cheeks, making freeze while turning the red. But at the same time, he still felt great.

Carlos and Sophia, were still able to see from the distance, chuckling while also clapping.

"Way to go, Prince Blu!" Carlos said, raising Blu's optimism.

"W-Why thank you." Blu stuttered.

He again felt anxious, but seeing some of his family members smile at his bravery made it decrease further. Suddenly, he felt Jewel hugging Blu by the side and making a slight pur noise. Blu was again red, but happy nonetheless.

"You were amazing." Said Jewel.

Blu cleared his throat saying, "Oh, it was nothing. Really."

"Maybe to you, but to me, I always like seeing you as a hero, Blu. Merry Christmas."

She hugged him tighter, and with that statement, Blu felt more happy than anything.

Making him hug her back and respond, "Merry Christmas, Jewel."

It felt like a good moment for them, as they all remembered it was the holiday season of Christmas.

As they continued hugging, they suddenly vanished. They vanished into snow, as well as the light, making the void become a void again. Until a new light appeared, and it showed Blu and Jewel again, but they appeared to be a little older. Along with them, also, wasn't their friends but another one. A baby scarlet macaw.

Blu and Jewel were showing the baby numerous Christmas decorations that were laying on the floor around them. Whether it was Christmas lights, ornaments, and even a single star, the baby looked at them and appeared to admire them.

At the same time, Blu and Jewel were smiling and wanted to have her learn about the things used during the Christmas Season.

Blu chuckled and said to the baby, "Yeah Angel. These are Christmas lights."

Jewel, "And this is a mistletoe."

"Ooh." Angel replied, who was not able to properly speak yet, but could still make a response of sorts for a little hatchling.

As she looked into one mistletoe, she mistook it for food and tried biting on it. Jewel gently took it from her and chuckled saying,

"No, no. You don't eat it, Angel. You hang it up, and wait until you and someone else are both under it. When that happens, you two kiss."

"Like this." Said Blu, as he took the mistletoe next, and held it above himself and Jewel.

Jewel made an attractive smile before she gladly kissed her boyfriend on the lips. Blu did the same, feeling good sharing their affection again. Though all Angel said to that was, "Huh?"

She made the same sound all babies would, not knowing what they were doing. Blu and Jewel heard her, and stopped kissing before they giggled.

Jewel said, "Aw. I'm sure she'll get it eventually. Especially when she later meets her special someone."

Blu, "Uh, Jewel? Let's maybe stray from that subject. After all, that's my baby sister you're talking about."

"Yeah I know." She chuckled. "I just think it's cute. Plus, this is Angel's first Christmas. I like to think about the magic we can share with her as much as we can."

"Hmm. I didn't think about that. But still, that doesn't mean I want to see Angel kiss someone at her age."

"You sure? Maybe it wouldn't be too different from how young we were when we had our first kiss."

Jewel began smiling at Blu slyly again, making him blush and stutter saying, "Hehe. Yeah, well…I don't know."

"I'm open for another one, by the way."

Jewel held up the mistletoe above them, implying the desire for another kiss, making Blu's cheeks become less red and happily reply, "Well alright then."

Then they kiss again, touching their beaks together, and feeling warmful with their wings around each other.

Angel looked at them and still felt confused, totally oblivious to what they were doing.

After that, Blu looked back at his sister and said, "Haha. Well, Angel. I don't know how things are going to turn out for you in the future, but one thing's for sure…"

Jewel, "You'll always have us with you. Including in the most wonderful time of the year. We love you, Angel."

The two blue macaws helped pick up and carry Angel, who felt good and suddenly responded, "I…I love you too, Blu…and Jewel."

The two gasped, hearing what were words coming out of her beak. So they smiled and hugged her deeply, feeling good for the Christmas joy they were having.

As they still hugged…they suddenly disappeared like before again. More snow started covering the void. But then another light appeared. Only it was not as bright, it was almost a little faded, but bright enough for Blu to be seen…as the fifteen year old adult he was.

He was smiling, humming one of his favorite holiday tunes, while setting Christmas lights and ornaments on what appeared to be a bird-size Christmas. To Blu it looked pretty normal. He didn't mind the size or had any trouble putting everything up.

Then he heard the voice of his beautiful wife Jewel saying, "You almost done, Blu?"

"Oh yeah." Blu replied. "Yeah. I am about done setting up the remaining ornaments. Now all that's left is the finishing touch. Something that I know is our big girl's job."

"You're right."

Jewel then stepped into the light, and in her wings, was a light blue baby female macaw chick, who was their baby and was also holding a star.

"You ready, sweetie?" Jewel said to the baby, who chuckled while nodding. She then handed her to Blu, and Blu helped her reach up to the tree, giving their chick the opportunity to place the star into the tree.

As that happened, the whole tree started to light up as if it were magic. The whole thing was golden yellow, making Blu and Jewel, and their baby smile. It even made the light under them become brighter and bigger, causing it to reveal a massive crowd of birds right behind the trio. They all smiled seeing the tree light up, and as it continued shining, it suddenly became bigger too.

Blu, Jewel, and everyone else backed up until it stopped and became the biggest tree ever.

Everyone was thrilled and amazed by its size. Blu and Jewel didn't feel any different, and as Blu still held his baby, they both saw her trying to reach for the star in a playful manner. The two parents felt indeed happy, and as they placed their wings around each other, they felt other wings touch them. They turned and noticed it was all their friends. Nico, Pedro, Rafael, Eva, Luiz, Mikka, Leo, Angel, Carlos, Sophia, and Nigel, plus all of Rafael and Eva's kids. All of them were together, and seeing them made Blu and Jewel feel even more happy.

Everyone was together, and Blu and Jewel held their wings together again while still holding their baby chick.

Blu whispered to them, "It really is the most wonderful time of the year."

"You said it." Jewel replied. "Merry Christmas, sweetie."

"Merry Christmas, honey. And merry Christmas to you, little one."

They both looked down at their child, and still it looked happy and playful for the season. So much, that she began slowly flapping her wings on Blu's beak.

Blu chuckled at first, feeling good seeing her like that. Until suddenly his nose tingled. Which soon caused Blu to respond with…"ACHOO!"

Then it was gone. The light, the tree, the crowd of friends and family, it was gone and Blu found himself lying down inside what looked like his fort. But different.

"What the?" He replied as he slowly got up. Then heard the voice of his wife once again.

"Whoa. Sorry Blu, it's just me." Blu turned to see Jewel and now realized where they were, and also realized that what he saw earlier was just a dream. Which was stopped when she flapped her wing to her beak, causing him to sneeze.

So he mumbled, "Aw." But quickly, he shook off his disappointment, happy to at least see his loving wife and say, "Hey Jewel." As he finished standing up, he stretched a little. "What time is it?"

"Uh…I'm guessing, 5:50 in the morning." Said Jewel.

"Huh. Well, okay. Though why'd you wake me up? I'm sure the others are still asleep."

"I'm sorry, sweetie. It was because I wanted to talk to you. It's something important."

"Okay. Just give me a second, honey."

Jewel nodded, understanding Blu wanted to stretch some more. So she stepped out of the fort, and stood outside, where it was revealed that they had their nest on the ground, in the jungle. Jewel stayed standing where she was and took a good look at the view that they had. And it was a totally new view, because as they remembered, while they were on the ground, they were not in the grounds…of Rio de Janeiro.

It was a foggy morning, but Jewel had a perfect view of the brand city they were in, and both Jewel and Blu were there because they unknowingly got transported. They had recently escaped from the hands of the human smugglers and their pet female cockatoo Chama.

Jewel remembered the whole thing pretty well as she was still thinking over it. Though they escaped, they and the many other kidnapped animals were lost in a totally brand new land. Not at all knowing where to go from there, but at least trusted each other to work together and successfully find shelter in the jungle.

As they did so, they remained there for a while. Jewel, again, couldn't stop thinking about it. But just stood on the ground and breathed in the air. Until she finally heard Blu open the curtain from their fort, and walk over to her.

He kissed her cheek and hugged her lovingly before she did it back, and they both looked at their view of the city. The wind blew carefully, and in some way, the two felt at peace.

Then Blu soon said, "So before we start, let me ask, how are you feeling?"

Jewel replied, "About my wing? To be honest, while it may not always feel soothing, I think this cast is making it feel a little better by the day."

"That's good to hear." He kissed her cheek again. "I'm just grateful that the others and I were able to make the proper cast for you. Especially since…you know. These jungles are unfamiliar to us."

"Not to mention this whole city. What is it called again?"

"I think when we got here, Nico was the first to inform me that he saw a sign saying 'Welcome to Rio de Grandata.' So, I imagine we're still in Brazil."

"Just in a different area. One that's either farther or closer to our Rio de Janeiro."

"Yep. So far we've been here for almost three days now. And while everyone has thankfully been accounted for, there hasn't been any sign of Nigel, Chama, or the smugglers."

"I hope he's alright."

"Me too. But like you said, he's a tough bird. I believe he'll make it. Just like we all will. We'll work together, figure out our plan, and get home in time just before Christmas."

"Speaking of Christmas, Blu. Is that what you were dreaming about earlier?"

"Huh? Actually, yes. But how did you know that?"

"Sometimes you snore in your sleep. Other times you also mumble."

"Haha." Blu laughed sarcastically, and they both chuckled before he continued, "But seriously, Jewel, I did dream about Christmas. It may not be December right now, but somehow it came up. I remembered that time during our first Christmas together when Carlos and Sophia brought us into that toy store. You and Eva had me play 'Prince and Princess v Dragons' with you. Then there was that time we introduced Christmas to Angel when she was just a hatchling."

"Oh yeah. I still haven't forgotten that adorable face she made when we kissed under the mistletoe."

"Ooh, but that's not all. While I've been able to see some good old memories, I also had…I think…what felt like a vision."

"A vision?"

"Oh yeah. Or maybe it was just a dream but…it felt pretty real. I was putting decorations into our own bird-size Christmas tree. Then you came in, and you were holding a baby. I believe it was our baby."

Jewel was surprised. So she held Blu's wing, lovingly.

"Really?" She asked.

"Uh-huh. It was a girl. She was so small but so beautiful and adorable. She was carrying a star, and when you gave her to me, I raised her up, allowing her to place the star on the tree. Which caused the tree to shine very bright. It was incredible. Then out of the shadows, all of our friends and family were together. It felt like a big Christmas miracle. It felt like the best blessing I could ask for. All of our families were there, and with the three of us close, I felt…complete."

"Wow. So…do you imagine that's how our next Christmas will go?"

"I think so. Though do we think we're expecting only one baby in our life?"

"Nah. I think birds like us are capable of laying more than one egg per…litter, or whatever you call it. And who knows? Maybe with how our marriage life goes, perhaps we'll have tons." Jewel said in an attractive tone.

Blu chuckled while blushing. "We'll see. I just hope by the time our first kids come into the world, we'll either be back at Rio…or at least be somewhere safe."

"Yeah." Jewel rested her head on Blu's shoulder. "But you know something, Blu? As long as we're together, I believe we can handle anything. Don't you agree?"

"Hm." Blu smiled. "Actually…I do. Also, even if it's not Christmas, let me at least say in advance…merry Christmas, Jewel. I love you so much."

"Merry Christmas, Blu. I love you too. More than you realize."

"Care to prove it?"

"Absolutely."

Then by looking into each other's eyes again, they shared a loving kiss while hugging each other dearly. With their wings around each other, they felt warm and cozy.

After that, Blu looked back at the city. Though everything felt unfamiliar, he did feel at home with his wife. But at the same time, he thought about his empty nest back at Rio. With him being gone from the city, he feared only one thing that involved the idea of certain birds coming to the nest while he was gone. Certain birds that he had not seen in years, but had some sample of hope that they would return to him. And be a part of his new family.

Rio: A Different Kind of Story No1

A long time ago, in the jungles of Rio de Janeiro, birds all over the place were partying because of their favorite time of year, Carnival. They were all dancing and singing for the big event while one little chick was alone in his nest, watching them. His name was Blu, and he felt excited and wanted to join them, but before he took the chance, the birds were kidnapped.

All over, cages and nets kept appearing and capturing everyone around. Some of them flew past Blu, and the surprise caused him to fall to the ground, failing at his attempt to fly. Once he was on the ground, he realized he was totally alone, not knowing what to do until he noticed a cage. It was about to drop right on him, but Blu quickly moved out of the way and was able to hide in the bushes.

Blu stayed out of sight and hid in the bushes for a long time, fearing that the people responsible for the captures would find him and that maybe his parents wouldn't return. He was indeed scared, until suddenly, he heard movement from outside, and his hiding place opened up surprisingly. Blu was terrified at first, but then he noticed the one who opened the bush…was a female scarlet macaw. Blu didn't know how to react but was curious, and the other macaw offered her wing, wanting to help him.

Soon, Blu accepted it, and came out of the bush to see her and another scarlet macaw in the moonlight. The two introduced themselves as Mikka and Leo, Blu however couldn't introduce himself because he couldn't talk yet. The two felt sorry for him, and knew that since they intended to find their own home and have a family, they agreed to take care of Blu. And they did.

For fifteen years, Mikka and Leo raised Blu as one of their own, and even gave him the name Blu. Because of them, Blu was able to grow up as a bird who was kind, and even learned how to survive in the jungle and the city with the strength of a bird and wit of a human. Blu enjoyed his life, living like both a bird and human, spending all his days helping others and having fun with his friends. He even made tons of friends over the years, including with a few birds named Nico, Pedro, Rafael, Eva, and a dog named Luiz.

Over the years, Blu had gained a fantastic life. During the time, he even had a little sister named Angel, she came from Mikka and Leo, and Blu always had the best times with them. While also making a cheerful impact on Rio. But the one major thing Blu had never succeeded in so far…was being able to fly.

Both Blu and Angel couldn't fly, because their mother's wing was once caught in a trap and their father promised to never fly again as a way to show his love for her. Despite the inconvenience, Blu still loved his life as it was.

He even had human friends, such as two doctors named Linda and Tulio Monteiro that were happily married (thanks to Blu) sometime ago. Somehow, they had become very close to Blu, just like Mikka and Leo, for a long time. They would often hang out too, and since Blu was a chick, Linda was one of the things that made Blu become interested in the human world. And so, Blu figured that his whole life would go by the way it already did.

He had friends, family, the city and jungle of Rio as a home, parties, learning, and such, and he loved it. But then one day, when he flew to the animal hospital, thinking he would have his routine social time with Linda and Tulio, something new came up. They gave Blu the news that in the hospital…they had recently found a female blue macaw.

To Be Continued…

Notes & Disclaimers (Dec 24, 2022):

Rio is Blue Sky IP.

• "holiday tunes": Whatever Christmas song he was humming, you can think of whatever you want it to be.

• "Rio de Grandata": As far as I know…I made that up. There's no city called Rio de Grandata, it's based on some of the cities in Brazil and I might've used Cuba as well.

• "return": Can you guys guess who those certain birds would be? Also, since 2016, has no one pointed out some similarities this version of Blu has to a certain Jedi?

• "thanks to Blu": Though this version occured differently, Linda still came to Rio for the same reason as she did in Ch4.

(3) Plans for Publishing

(4) "Rio: A Different Kind of Story"

Hey everyone. How are you all doing this Christmas Eve? I'm doing well. In fact…if I said before that I wasn't going to share any short Christmas stories this year, it looks like I fixed that. I was able to make this little Christmas story, though I admit it turned out to be a longer chapter than I thought it would be.

Aw well, hope you guys like it. It was a little Christmas themed story, and it gives a little explanation of what happened to Blu, Jewel, and everyone else after they escaped Chama and the smugglers. Now I understand if this wasn't what you were anticipating but it still seemed good, right? And thank you all, by the way, for your patience but it may be a while before I post another chapter. Same goes for the rest of my stories.

I will establish that part after I answer some new questions that came in.

To Alexriolover95, you asked me what I thought about the newest trailer for Sonic Prime. I might've answered that but if I didn't, feel free to point that out. And if you ask what I thought about the series when it finally came, let me say that despite what busy schedule I had, I couldn't stop watching it so much until it was done and it was sweet. What stinks though is the fact that we have to wait for maybe half a year or more for the next episodes to come. But if we're lucky, it'll be sooner and maybe they will show some more familiar elements in this multiverse story.

To Zoroark X, you asked me to make a fanfiction about what would happen if Blu ended up in the Angry Birds movie variation of Bird Island. I'm sorry buddy but at the moment, I don't want to make any Angry Bird fanfictions. Even for a summary story, it might be a little hard to see how I can make Blu's story go by like that. Plus when it comes to the movies, I only saw the second one and I'm not eager to see the first. Sorry.

To FilmEdit, you asked about why I changed my stories and marked them as "To be rewritten." Rest assured, I made a post sometime ago that explains it. It's called "Under Maintenance" and hopefully the explanation on it is clear. Also, just a few days ago, I was able to finish editing Ch1-9 of "Life of Love and Pure of Heart," and they're now fully available to read. Meanwhile, I will work on trying to finish editing the chapters to "A Rio Restart" and anything else that's marked as "Under Maintenance."

So with all that being said, let me share with you my new plans for publishing. You see…late 2021 to 2022 was supposed to be the year I come back and share with all of you my new stories and ideas. Plus read some more of your work. But I understand that this year I've been slacking on it a little. Not because I'm busy with things during my other time, but because I've been distracted with other leisure, social, or casual stuff. Nonetheless, I am grateful that you guys have been patient and have respected my pace with things.

So throughout the rest of this year, and possibly through most of 2023, I'm going to publish only media posts, photos, tracings, and more entries for "C's Summary Collection." Plus try again to edit more of my previous stories. If I decide to post another story, you guys will know when it comes up. Until then, that's how I'm gonna role in FFN for a while, plus the other sites, and I'll try to read more of your stories at my own pace still.

Thank you for reading this, thank you for your comments with my recent posts, thank you for patience, and for wanting more from me. Also, there's one more thing.

"Rio: A Different Kind of Story," if I have explained this story before, let me explain it again. It's supposed to be a summary series, like everything in CSC, but will be included with NKS. Rest assured the series you all know and love will not be canceled, but will co-exist with this one. "Different Kind of Story" is supposed to share a different alternative to this series, showing how it would look if I wrote it differently. So I hope you like both series together.

With that, let me say thanks again for your desire to read more of my work. You can check out more from:
