Greetings, everyone. Donkeyboy100 is here with chapter 18. Thank you, HunterHQ, for reviewing the last few chapters and everyone else who reviewed the previous chapters. And now, on with the story!
At SOL Technologies, in Akira's office...
Akira was busy typing on his laptop, wiping the sweat off his forehead using his right forearm. He was stressed, primarily due to everything that's recently happened. Since SOL Technologies was the Syndicate's primary target, he and everyone else at SOL Technologies have been working around the clock to ensure their security is tight and the lives of the innocent people of LINK VRAINS are safe and sound. He didn't know why the Syndicate wanted to destroy SOLTech, nor has any idea what they had against the company. He had a vision for the reasons behind the Syndicate's actions. The Syndicate was previous employees of SOL Technologies who were known for their exceptional talents but were sadly let go right around when the Queen took over. Since then, they developed a hatred towards SOLTech and hated everything they did and stood for, so they took it upon themselves to form the group known as The Syndicate to exact their revenge. That belief was why the whole Arbiters and Roget happened. Once Storm Rider learned the truth from Umbra, he immediately reported it to Zaizen, who was shocked after hearing it. He had Shepherd and Emma return to Roget's lair in the restricted area of LINK VRAINS, and luckily, they managed to find the location of the Syndicate's base. They immediately insisted they go to the Syndicate's headquarters, hoping to weaken their security, making it easier for a sneak attack.
While the Top 10 would love having the upper hand against the enemy, Zaizen felt it was too early to launch an attack. He ordered Emma and Shepherd to stay down until further notice and didn't mention that Varis had contacted him a few days ago about his plan to lure the Syndicate to him to gather their skills. It was, in all honesty, a strategic move, given that the Knights of Hanoi would lend the Top 10 a hand in this fight.
Ultimately, Zaizen didn't argue with Varis, as he knew the leader of Hanoi would counter every statement he made. It was a win-lose no matter what. Either the Knights of Hanoi would lose to the Syndicate, even though it's doubtful, or the Syndicate would lose to the Hanoi, which is also highly unlikely. But if Akira knew one thing, it was this: Regardless of whether the Knights of Hanoi's plan worked, they were sure to gather data on the Syndicate which would benefit him and the Top 10.
"Mr. Zaizen!" Hayami said, opening the door and entering Akira's office with a frown. "Bad news. We've lost Ghost Gal and The Shepherd's digital footprint!"
Akira's eyes widened. "What? Are you serious?" Akira asked with a concerned look. He expected this might happen. He had Hayami install trackers within their Duel Disks so he could know what was happening on their ends. All he asked was for the two to obey his orders and wait to hear from Varis. But now, Emma and Shepherd decided to attack the Syndicate's base and disobeyed his orders to remain on standby. While he respected their courage and bravery, it was still a foolish decision, and they probably lost their consciousness data upon losing their duels.
Hayami narrowed her eyes at Akira. "What should we do, Mr. Zaizen?"
Akira frowned. "Normally, I'd inform the Top 10 on this matter, but I fear they might ask for the Syndicate's location so they can rescue Ghost Gal and Shepherd," he answered. "Instead, inform the Knights of Hanoi of the situation, and hopefully, they can create a program that can forcefully log them out or obtain their consciousness data without charging the Syndicate's base."
Hayami nodded. "Understood!" She exited Akira's office, leaving him alone.
Elsewhere, at Den City High School…
Yuji was sitting on a bench in the schoolyard next to Ena. They currently had their lunch break. Yuji opened his lunch box, also designed as a Duel Monsters Deck case, and then turned the box's lid with the image of his Playmaker's ace monster, Decode Talker.
Yuji looked at the image with a smile on his face. Never in my life had I thought I'd meet Playmaker. Not to mention working with him.
Yuji turned to Ena with a curious expression, "I'm still surprised that Rhea had a Fusion Monster. You seriously didn't know?"
Ena smiled and nodded in response, "I told you no three times already, Yuji," she said. "Rhea and I often talk on the phone, but it's mostly about girl stuff or school. Plus, don't you agree it's better to keep any new additions to our Decks a secret? It makes it more fun when it freaks out the opponent when they see a card we never used before."
"That is true," Yuji agreed. "During the SOL Grand Prix, everyone had added new cards to their Decks, and whenever they brought out a new monster, we were surprised to see them every time."
Ena nodded. Though she and Yuji didn't know Rhea for a long time personally, she's great to talk to and be around, especially in Link VRAINS. She turned to Yuji. "Well, it's good she had that Fusion Monster because I think we would've won the duel without it."
Yuji raised an eyebrow in curiosity, "You wouldn't have won the duel?" he repeated. "Hmm...I wouldn't be sure. Rhea used Card of Demise on her last turn, so given what cards she drew, she could've stalled the duel out a bit more for you guys to make a comeback. But no matter the situation, I knew you two would win."
Ena turned to Yuji, a little surprised, before smiling sweetly, "Thank you, Yuji." Her smile then turned into a confident smile, "And just you wait, I'll become even stronger, and before you know it, the Syndicate will regret messing with us!"
Yuji, caught a little off guard by Ena's declaration, couldn't help but chuckle a little, "Well then, I'll be there by you and everyone else's side. Don't think I will let you and the others have all the fun."
Honestly, even though he's eager again to fight against the Syndicate and stop them, he still doesn't know how to improve his dueling. Ever since meeting that stranger, he couldn't think of anything. Hopefully, a miracle will give him the answer he's been searching for. But until then, hearing Ena stating she wants to grow stronger is good enough.
Yuji smiled at his lunch, "Well, anyway, it's time to dig in!" He held up his lunch box and then began eating.
Ena smiled, "Hey, don't eat too fast, or you'll choke." However, she then saw that someone was holding out a napkin to her. She looked forward and, to her surprise, saw Shima standing there with a smile, "Hey there."
Yuji stopped eating when he noticed Shima standing there with a curious and cautious look on his face. He wondered what Shima would want right now especially considering that whatever he said only benefits him.
"What are you doing here, Shima?" Ena asked as she narrowed her eyes before turning away as she continued to eat her lunch.
Shima looked confused from seeing Ena's reaction before turning to Yuji with a smirk as he put the napkin in his pocket, "Sheesh, acting so uncouth in front of a lady! Your eating habits sure are both so dirty!"
Yuji narrowed his eyes, slightly offended, "My eating habits aside. Is there something you need or want to tell us, Shima?"
Shima chuckled as he closed his eyes, "Figues the two of you wouldn't know."
Both Yuji and Ena looked confused before Ena glared at Shima. "Hey, there's no need to act so smugly!" Her face turned back into confusion, "But...what exactly are you talking about?"
Shima narrowed his eyes a little. "I'm talking about the duel tournament that will be hosted later today at Den City Arcade."
Yuya and Yuzu had shocked expressions on their faces. "Did you say a Duel Tournament?"
Shima smiled at the duo. "You heard right." He narrowed his eyes at Yuji. "Remember a few months ago when Yuya dueled those two bullies we met that night?"
Yuji nodded. "Of course, we entered a small room programmed to simulate the environment of LINK VRAINS."
"Correct. And ever since that night, I've bragged about it to everyone I know. And because of that, the attraction has become so popular that they renovate the arcade to make it the Den City Duel Arcade."
"A Duel Arcade?" Ena repeated. "Sounds both fun and interesting."
"It sure is," Shima confirmed. "And as a thank you for helping increase the arcade's popularity, they gave me a free spot in the tournament, which I'll win, of course."
Yuji frowned. "So you're telling all this because you want Ena and me to see you duel?"
Shima growled as he turned to Yuji. "Of course not! I'm telling you this because I invite everyone to see me win!"
Ena nervously chuckled. "Well, we wish you good luck and hope you win, Shima."
Shima scoffed. "Please. Who needs luck when you got skill?" He narrowed his eyes at the duo. "The tournament starts after school at 5, so don't be late."
Following his words, Shima took his leave.
Yuji sighed. "I know he means well, but he can be both annoying and frustrating sometimes,"
Ena chuckled. Let's check out this tournament. It's a shame we can't duel, but we can face some eliminated participants afterward."
"Can't argue with you there," Yuji said. "The others would be interested in seeing Shima get creamed in the first round, so we should invite them as well."
"Seeing how Shima mentioned that he's told everyone he knows to come to watch him duel in the tournament, I bet he's already invited them," Ena stated. "But it wouldn't hurt to ask still."
"Great. I'll ask Theo and Taigen. While you ask the girls," Yuji said.
"Sure thing. But I should inform you in advance that Rhea isn't here today," Ena mentioned. "Looks like that duel we had against Pandor took a toll on her."
"That's a shame. If Shima had lost on the duel's first turn, Rhea would have been on the floor. Hope she feels better."
"Me too," Ena then looked at her watch. "Break period is about to end soon, so we should finish eating."
"You don't have to tell me that twice."
Following Yuji's words, he started gobbling down his lunch, with Ena following suit. After a few minutes, they cleaned themselves and proceeded to class.
A few hours later…
Yuji, Ena, Theodore, Skye, and Lily walked down Den Academy's main venue, the school day over.
"Guys, wait up!" Taigen called out to the quintet, running up to them. "You guys are all heading to the tournament, right?"
"Of course we are," Yuji answered. "I informed you about it right before lunch ended. Did something come up?"
"Unfortunately, yes," Taigen replied with a frown. "My mom just texted me a list of things she needs me to pick up at the store for her to use to cook dinner tonight. I'm afraid I won't be able to attend the tournament with you guys."
"That's ok, Taigen. We understand," Skye said. "We'll record all the duels for you."
Taigen smiled. "You guys are best! See you tomorrow!"
After Taigen took his leave, Yuji and the others continued walking down the street.
"Such a shame that Rhea and Taigen cannot attend the tournament with us," Lily said.
"It is. But we can use this time to discuss new ways to strengthen our dueling skills," Theodore said. "You guys have any ideas?"
"I've been racking my brain up all last night and sadly can't come up with anything," Skye said. "While there are some strategies and plays we haven't used yet, that still won't be enough to take down the Syndicate."
"No joke," Ena agreed. "Still, there's got to be something we can do."
"Well, one thing I for sure is that we won't come up with anything if we're all stressed out," Yuji stated. "Since we got time to kill before the tournament starts, why don't we entertain ourselves?"
Ena nodded. "Sounds like a good idea. What did you have in mind?"
"I thought we could hit the cinema. Visiting the aquarium also sounds like a good idea. After all, who knows when I'll have the chance again?"
"Aquarium?" Skye repeated as she tilted her head sideways. "The movies, I understand, but I never thought you'd be interested in attending an aquarium, Yuji. No offense."
Yuji chuckled. "Understandable. My parents always took me to the aquarium as a kid, and I loved it." He then frowned. "But as you know, my and Ena's parents left to open their new joint business in America and have been there ever since."
Lily frowned. "That's very sad to hear," she said.
"It is," Ena confirmed. "But it's not all bad. We receive calls from them a few times monthly, and they wire us money for necessities. Though we hardly ever use it since Kolter does all the shopping."
"Living rent-free with hardly any responsibilities," Theodore noted. "You two sure have the luxurious lifestyle."
"I wouldn't know about luxurious, but it is nice, though," Yuji said. "Anyway, we're getting close to the movie theaters, so we better get a move on. Let's go!"
Out of nowhere, Yuji grabbed Ena's hand and started dragging her.
"H-Hey, stop pulling, Yuji!" Ena complained. "I can walk on my own!"
However, Yuji ignored Ena's protests as he moved forward enthusiastically, with everyone else following behind them…
Two hours later…
"That movie was so romantic… Ultimately, I never expected the guy to leave his rich family to be with his one true love…."
Lily said so with sparkling eyes as she and the others exited the movie theater. After the five teens reached the movie theater, they looked up the showings to decide which. While there were many options, Yuji and Theo wanted to watch an action film, while the girls preferred a romance film. They drew straws to determine which movie they would see, and whoever had the longest one picked it. In the end, Lily chose the romance film. The boys expected to be bored throughout the movie, but some comedic moments made them laugh, and some sad moments made them cry. However, they received complaints from the rest of the audience due to their laughter and sobbing.
"So, what's the next stop, Yuji?" Skye asked.
Following her question, Yuji pondered for a while and eventually spoke.
"I thought we could all do a boat ride. And then visit the aquarium?
"That sounds like a good idea." Ena nodded. "It's been ages since we've last been on a ship."
The five teens took a boat tour around Den City's harbor and two rivers crossing through Den City, taking sights around them. Yuji led everyone to the aquarium, where they could admire exotic fish. Yuji couldn't help but see his friends smiling as they laughed at some funny fish.
It feels nice to relax and enjoy everyday life, Yuji wondered. Hopefully, when this whole thing with the Syndicate is over, it'll be like that from now on…
Yuji's eyes then shifted to a nearby clock. "Oh, look at the time!" He exclaimed, catching his friends' attention. "It's almost 5. We better hurry to the tournament, or Shima will all be on our ears."
"That does sound like a good idea." Ena agreed. "While we were enjoying ourselves, it's best to keep our promise. Lead the way."
After exiting the aquarium, the group of five headed down the road. Shortly, they stopped upon seeing a large building with holographic images of Duel Monsters battling outside it.
"Is that the place, Yuji?" Theodore asked.
Yuji nodded. "It sure is. After Shima informed Ena and me about the details, I decided to look up the place. The Duel Arcade is where duelists around Den City gather to have some casual Duels." he explained. "There are also several other activities connected to Duel Monsters."
Following Yuji's words, the five teens entered inside. Yuji noted that the place was, unsurprisingly enough, packed with people. Several small arenas were set up around the vast hall, where duelists or AI Duel Machines in Single or Tag Duels challenged each other while the spectators cheered for them. There were some old Dueling Arenas from about three decades ago when Duel Disk technology hadn't been discovered. Even though such equipment was outdated, some retro enthusiasts still loved playing in them, which is why the Duel Arcade had set up these arenas.
"This place looks lively," Skye commented as she surveyed her surroundings. "I wonder if I can find some strong opponents among the Duelists-in-training here."
Before anyone could point out that most of the Duelists in here were of an average level, a familiar voice called out to them.
"Oi, Everyone! You showed up!"
True enough, upon turning around, the quintet caught sight of Shima approaching them while waving his hand.
"Thank god you guys showed up. I was starting to get worried. But you guys wouldn't miss the chance of seeing me winning this tournament, right?" Shima said with a cocky smile. "But what took you guys so long? Didn't you receive my message?"
"What message?" Ena asked.
"It turns out that due to the tournament's popularity, they changed the starting time from 5 to 3," Shima explained. "I sent each of you messages about it but never got any responses."
Lily frowned. "Sorry, Shima. We got busy."
Shima chuckled. "No sweat. You just made it in time for the finals."
Everyone's eyes widened. "You made it to the finals!?"
"Of course," Shima confirmed. "And rumor has it that my opponent is the daughter of an employee at SOL Technologies."
"Is that so?" Theodore said before turning to Skye." Do you have any idea who it could be, Skye?"
She shook her head. "Nobody comes to mind. But once I see her, that may change.
"Well, whoever it is, I can't wait to see her skills in action," Yuji stated before turning to Shima. "I'm still surprised you made it to the finals, Shima. You sure have grown as a duelist since I met you."
Shima smiled. "Wow, Yuji. I think that's the first time you've ever complimented me. Thank you."
"Ladies and gentlemen," A man's voice from a nearby speaker announced. "May I have your attention, please? The final round of the tournament will be starting shortly. Will the two finalists please make their way to the dueling arena?"
"Guess that's your cue," Lily said. "Good luck, Shima."
Shima nodded. Thanks, you guys. I promise I won't let you down."
Following Shima's words, he moved to the arena and took his place across from his opponent. It was a dark-skinned female with an hourglass figure. She had jet-black hair with a thick streak of maroon going down each side and a dark pink line down the left side, reaching just above her shoulder blades with curled sides and short bangs framing her silver eyes. She wore a long red scarf around her neck, a white blouse, a black unbuttoned jacket, and a green skirt with white trim. She also wore black stockings, cherry-red sneakers, small gold loop earrings, and a gold bracelet with engraved designs.
"May I have your attention, please?" A large man with short brown and almond eyes announced, earning everyone's attention. "We're ready to end the tournament with our final match!" The crowd cheered for the two duelists that rose above it all. "Now, we move on to the main event. On the right corner, it's the challenger, Naoki Shima!" The boy accepted the cheers with a light wave and a light smile to everyone around. "And his opponent, Scarlett Burns!" The girl was much more enthusiastic with her, waving with a big smile.
Upon getting a better look at the two combatants, excited murmurs could be heard from the audience.
"I still can't believe she's here!"
"Yeah, when I heard she's participating in this tournament, I came racing down!"
"Oh man, to see a duel involving the daughter of famous card designer Hayato Saya, we are certainly super lucky!"
"Scarlett Burns," Skye repeated before her eyes widened in realization. "I know that name."
"You do?" Ena asked.
"Yes. A few weeks after Akira got employed at SOLTech, he brought me to work since it was Bring your family member to Work Day," Skye explained. "We took a lunch break from our tour, and I was placed in a room with the other kids. This one kid stood out for being the daughter of the card designer who worked at SOL. While we never interacted, I did manage to catch her name. Scarlett Burns."
Yuji smiled. "This could be beneficial for us."
Ena raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"Think about it. Scarlett's father is the head card designer at SO Technologies. Should Shima win this duel, he'll earn Scarlett's respect, and with us being his friends, she could create some new cards for us to use against the Syndicate."
Lily frowned. "But wouldn't that be wrong?"
"It would be," Theodore confirmed. "But you have to remember, Lily. Varis told us to strengthen our Decks. And we can't do that without new cards. Plus, knowing Shima, he'll be oblivious to our plan."
"Are the competitors ready?" The manager asked, catching the five teens and everyone else's attention. Both duelists activated their Duel Disks and nodded with determined looks and happy smiles. Shima's Duel Disk was a new model with a black base and blue top circling a black screen. Scarlett's Duel Disk was an old-model colored red with an orange blade. "Scarlett gets the first move! Begin!"
"Duel!" Scarlett and Shima declared as they drew their opening hands.
Scarlett: 4000 LP
Shima: 4000 LP
"I have to admit. I didn't watch your previous duels because I didn't think anyone here could provide me with a challenge. So I'm curious to see what style you'll employ against me. But before that, it's my turn. I summon Volcanic Edge!"
A monster resembling an armored salamander appeared on Scarlett's field.
Volcanic Edge ATK 1800 DEF 1200 LVL: 4
"I activate Volcanic Edge's effect!" Scarlett declared. "Once per turn, I can inflict 500 points of damage to you, but in exchange, my monster cannot attack during that turn. Of course, since it's the first turn, it hardly matters. Now, take this!"
A ball of fire was shot out of Volcanic Edge's mouth, striking Shima and causing him to grunt from the pain.
Shima: 4000→3500 LP
"Although I want to continue my assault, I'll settle for placing a card face-down and ending my turn. But I assure you this was just a small taste of what I have in store for you."
"It's only the first turn, yet you've already seized the initiative," Shima smirked. "Not bad. In that case, allow me to respond in kind! My turn! I draw! I summon Masked HERO Sorcerer!"
A monster clad in dark red armor reminiscent of a wizard's robe appeared on Shima's field.
Masked HERO Sorcerer ATK 1000 DEF 1500 LVL: 4
"When Masked HERO Sorcerer is summoned successfully, its effect activates, allowing me to add a Spell Card whose description has the word "HERO" in it!" Shima announced. "I choose the Spell Card: League of Heroes and activate it. Through its effect, I can target a "HERO" monster I control and Special Summon a "HERO" monster with an equal or lower Level than it from my Deck. Come, Elemental HERO Shadow Mist!"
A pale woman with long blue hair wearing black armor appeared in Attack Position.
Elemental HERO Shadow Mist ATK 1000 DEF 1500 LVL: 4
"Since it was Special Summoned, Shadow Mist's effect activates, allowing me to add a "Change" Quick-Play Spell Card from my Deck to my hand," Shima stated. I choose Mask Change and activate it, targeting Shadow Mist to perform a Transformation Summon! Appear! Masked HERO Dark Law!"
A shining mask covered Shadow Mist's face as a glowing light enveloped its body. Immediately afterward, a wild-looking monster clad in obsidian armor appeared on Shima's field in Attack Position.
Masked HERO Dark Law ATK 2400 DEF 1800 LVL: 6
Scarlett smirked. "So you use the fabled "Masked HERO" monsters," she deduced. "I take it that you're the Brave Battler, right?"
Shima nodded. "Got it in one."
"I see. I must admit that Transformation Summon is an interesting form of Fusion Summoning," Scarlett said while smirking. "You sure utilize some amusing tricks. But for your sake, I hope this isn't all you've got."
"Of course not," Shima said. "The fun is still far from over. Battle! Dark Law attacks Volcanic Edge!"
The monster leaped into the air, then fired a beam of darkness at the molten salamander, making it explode.
"I activate the Trap Card: Volcanic Retribution!" Scarlett exclaimed as the card showed Volcanic Hammerer protecting a fallen Volcanic Queen from Giga Gagagigo. "Due to its effect, when a "Volcanic" monster on my side on the field is destroyed, I take no damage from that battle, the Battle Phase ends, and you take 500 points of damage!"
Several magma shots struck Shima's body, but the boy refused to budge in any way, letting out only a grunt of pain.
Shima: 3500→3000 LP
"Shima's already lost 1000 Life Points," Lily commented. "What's more, his opponent hasn't taken any damage."
"Shima will make a comeback, Lily," Theodore assured her. "Besides. He almost beat Gore. And Playmaker while being controlled. I'm positive he'll be okay."
"I place one card face-down and end my turn," Shima said. "I may not have damaged you, but you must admit that wasn't half-bad for an opening move."
"True, but that level of power can barely faze me, much less defeat me," Scarlett spoke condescendingly. "Allow me to show you a glimpse of true power. My turn! I draw! I summon Volcanic Rocket!"
A beige-skinned reptilian monster with red wings appeared and gave a faint roar.
Volcanic Rocket ATK 1900 DEF 1400 LVL: 4
"Volcanic Rocket's effect activates! When it is Summoned, I add a "Blaze Accelerator" card from my Deck to my hand." Scarlett took a card and then played it. "I activate the Continuous Spell Card: Blaze Accelerator!" A black-and-silver cannon atop a tripod appeared on Scarlett's field. "And since Blaze Accelerator is on the field, I can send it to the Graveyard to activate the Continuous Spell Card: Tri-Blaze Accelerator!"
The black-and-silver cannon disappeared as a new machine appeared on Mistuka's field. This one was white and stood on a tripod, with three barrels that ended in red caps.
Scarlett gestured to her field. "I activate Tri-Blaze Accelerator's effect! I target a monster you control, then send a Pyro monster from my hand to the Graveyard. Your monster is destroyed, and you take 500 points of damage, but my monsters cannot attack this turn." Shima's eyes widened. "However, when I activate this effect, my monsters cannot attack. I target Dark Law and discard Volcanic Scattershot!"
A small three-headed reptilian wreathed in flames appeared, only to be loaded into Tri-Blaze Accelerator. The cannon then fired a blast at Shima's field.
"I won't allow that!" Shima declared. "I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Ultimate Mask Change!" The card depicted the silhouette of a Masked HERO-like monster equipping a mask glowing with multicolored light and emitting an intense burst of energy of the same color from under its feet. "Since I have two "HERO" monsters with different attributes on the field, I can send them all to the Graveyard to Special Summon an equal number of "Masked HERO" Fusion Monsters from my Extra Deck with an attribute similar to them! Transformation Summon! Appear, Masked HERO Anki and Masked HERO Goka!"
After two glowing masks covered the faces of his monsters, a warrior clad in black armor with sharp protrusions all over it and a warrior clad in crimson armor with flame-shaped protrusions extending from it appeared on Shima's field in Attack Position.
Masked HERO Anki ATK 2800 DEF 1200 LVL: 8
Masked HERO Goka ATK 2200 DEF 1800 LVL: 6
"Thanks to its effect, Goka's attack points increase by 100 for every "HERO" monster in my Graveyard."
Masked HERO Goka ATK 2200→2500
"Normally, when Scattershot is sent to the Graveyard, you take 500 points of damage," Scarlett explained. "But since Dark Law was still on the field, its effect banished Scattershot. But don't think for a second that I'm finished. I activate the Spell Card: Emergency Recharge, whose effect lets me draw four cards since my hand is empty. Then, I activate Tri-Blaze Accelerator's effect again, sending Volcanic Shell from my hand to the Graveyard to destroy Masked Hero Anki and inflict 500 points of damage!"
A bullet-shaped salamander was shot out of one of the barrels, destroying Anki and striking Shima squarely on his chest.
Shima: 3000→2500 LP
Scarlett: 4000→3500 LP
"Geez, Shima is getting pulverized out there," Ena commented. "I figured he would have some trouble, but not this much."
"That Scarlett girl is playing it smart, trying to exhaust him early on before he has a chance to build his formation," Theodore remarked. "However, seeing how much Shima has evolved as a duelist, I don't think he'll let losing a few Life Points stop him."
"Since another "HERO" monster is in the Graveyard, Goka's attack points increase by 100," Shima said as a flaming aura surrounded Goka.
Masked HERO Goka ATK 2500→2600
"Not only that, but I realized your Deck focuses on effect damage?" Shima grimaced. "That's not good. I don't have a good history with such strategies."
"Is that so?" Scarlett said with a smile. "Good for me. I activate Volcanic Shell's effect from my Graveyard! By paying 500 Life Points, I can add another Volcanic Shell from my Deck to my hand. Then, I will use it as ammunition and destroy Goka! Fire!"
Another bullet-shaped salamander was fired from the turret, destroying Goka and striking Shima in his chest.
Shima: 2500→2000 LP
"I place three cards face-down and end my turn," Scarlett said. "Next turn, I'll have your Life Points disappear completely under the relentless barrage of my "Volcanic" monsters."
"Not if I have anything to say about it!" Shima declared. "My turn! I draw!"
"I activate the Trap Card: Draw Bomb!" Scarlett abruptly stated. "Since you drew a card, you take 1000 damage!"
Shima gasped as a minor explosion went off beneath his feet, causing him to stumble.
Shima: 2000→1000 LP
Yuji narrowed his eyes. "Shima now only has 1000 Life Points left."
"Looks like we won't be getting those new cards after all," Skye said with a frown.
Shime growled before continuing his turn. "I summon Elemental HERO Stratos!"
A blue-skinned humanoid in dark blue armor with wings and turbines on its back appeared.
Elemental HERO Stratos ATK 1800 DEF 300 LVL: 4
"Stratos's effect activates!" Shima continued. When it is Summoned, I activate one of two effects. I activate the second effect to add a "HERO" monster from my Deck to my hand. I'll add Masked HERO Joker to my hand. And I can Special Summon it since I control a face-up "HERO" monster through its effect!"
A humanoid clad in black-colored armor holding a gun in its right hand appeared on Shima's field.
Masked HERO Joker ATK 1500 DEF 1200 LVL: 4
"Joker's effect activates! When it's successfully summoned, I can add a "Masked HERO" monster from my Deck or Graveyard to my hand!" Shima declared. "I choose to add Masked HERO Rapid from my Deck to my hand. And since I added it to my hand through a card effect, I can Special Summon it!"
A humanoid clad in white armor with several wheels attached to it and holding an axe in its left hand appeared on Shima's field.
Masked HERO Rapid ATK 1300 DEF 1600 LVL: 4
"However, Rapid's effect doesn't end here," Shima smirked. "If it was Special Summoned through its effect, I can add a "Change" card from my Graveyard to my hand. I choose Ultimate Mask Change and activate it, using my three monsters as materials for a Transformation Summon! Appear now, Masked HERO Kamikaze! Masked HERO Dian! And Masked HERO Phoenix!"
Three new monsters, one clad in green armor and surrounded by wind, the second being a female figure clad in thick armor and holding a lance-shaped sword, and the third clad in red armor with six crimson wings extending from its back and a small shield attached to its left arm, appeared on Shima's field in Attack Position.
Masked HERO Kamikaze ATK 2700 DEF 1900 LVL: 8
Masked HERO Dian ATK 2800 DEF 3000 LVL: 8
Masked HERO Phoenix ATK 2900 DEF 1800 LVL: 8
"Three "Masked HERO" monsters in one turn?" Scarlett narrowed her eyes. "It looks like he's starting to get serious…."
"Now, battle!" Shima exclaimed. "Masked HERO Daian will attack your Volcanic Rocket! Dispersion Thrust!"
"Before that, I activate the Trap Card: Impenetrable Attack!" Scarlett shouted. "Due to its effect, I can choose whether to prevent Rocket's destruction or reduce all battle damage this turn to 0. I choose the latter!"
Following Scarlett's words, Dian used its lance sword to slash Rocket in half, destroying it.
"When Dian destroys an opponent's Monster as a result of battle, I can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower "HERO" monster from my Deck," Shima stated. "Come, Elemental HERO Clayman in Defense Position!"
A large, round man of clay and mud with a red dome-shaped head appeared on Shima's field next to Dian.
"Furthermore, when a "HERO" monster I control destroys an opponent's monster, Phoenix's effect enables me to inflict 300 points of damage to you!" Scarlett's eyes widened. "Phoenix Bullet!"
Several feather-shaped bolts were shot out of Phoenix's wings, striking Scarlett's body and causing her to grunt.

Scarlett gestured to her field. "I activate the Trap Card: Volcanic Force! Through its effect, I will send Tri-Blaze Accelerator to the Graveyard to Special Summon Volcanic Doomfire from my Deck!"
A demonic-looking monster composed of rocks, magma, and flames appeared on Scarlett's field in Attack Position.

Phoenix's entire body was enveloped in flames as it charged at Escuridao, vaporizing it upon making contact with it.
"Don't think you're safe just because you got a new monster," Shima let out a sly smile. "Masked HERO Phoenix attacks Volcanic Doomfire! And at this moment, Phoenix's effect activates, increasing its attack by 500 for every monster my opponent controls for this battle!"
Masked HERO Phoenix ATK 2900→3400
"Go, Prominence Drop!"
Phoenix's entire body was enveloped in flames as it charged at Doomfire, vaporizing it upon making contact with it.

"Phoenix's additional effect activates! When it destroys an opponent's monster by battle, I can inflict damage to them equal to the destroyed monster's Level multiplied by 200, meaning you'll receive 1600 points of damage! Spin Shooter!"
A spinning circle of fire erupted from Phoenix's shield, striking Scarlett squarely on the chest and sending her skidding backwards.
Scarlett: 3200→1600 LP
"The tables have turned to my side," Shima commented with a wide grin. "I place one card face-down and end my turn. Now, show me what else you can do by using your "HERO" monsters and how you plan on fighting against my monsters. This back-and-forth exchange between our monsters has got me pumped up here! Let's make this even more exciting!"
"Unfortunately for you, I'm going all out from this point forward!" Scarlett declared with a smile. "My turn! I draw! I activate the Spell Card: Card of Demise, which lets me draw until I have five cards. But I must send my entire hand to the Graveyard during my fifth Standby Phase after activating this card."
Shima narrowed his eyes. "What an annoying card."
Scarlett drew four cards, looked at them, then took one. "Since you decided to bring out three monsters in a single turn, that makes you worthy to face my strongest monster. Prepare yourself, Naoki Shima! I banish Volcanic Rocket and two copies of Volcanic Shell from the Graveyard to Special Summon this card! Come before us, The Blazing Mars!"
A monster resembling a black and red humanoid attached to an enormous bronze dragon's head with four red rock-like horns around it appeared on Scarlett's field in Attack Position.
The Blazing Mars ATK 2600 DEF 2200 LVL: 8
"The…The Blazing Mars?" Shima flinched as his eyes widened at the sight of the beast. "No way…a Legendary Planet card? But that's not possible…."
Lily raised an eyebrow. "What's a Legendary Planet?"
"The Legendary Planet cards are a series of ten cards as special tournament prizes way back in the past," Theodore spoke. "I remember reading about them a few years back. Each card was given to several lucky individuals, but they were all sought by those who wished to obtain their power. Through thefts, confiscations, bets, and sells, the owners of the cards kept changing until they finally stopped. Since then, no other incidents have been involving the Legendary Planets, and they were considered lost…."
"Well, it seems that isn't the case," Skye stated.
"Everything that exists always leaves a trace behind, no matter what or how big or small it is," Yuji noted. "And in turn, those traces will become traces of other traces, and the cycle repeats itself forever and ever. It is like the memories and dreams within your mind. No matter how painful they are or how long forgotten, they still sleep deep within you, perhaps one-day awakening when you finally come back to it."
Ena turned to Yuji. "That was very deep," she commentated. "But for Shima's sake, let's hope he has something up his sleeve."
"Moving on, I activate the Spell Card: Lightning Vortex!" Scarlett continued. "By discarding one card, all your face-up monsters are destroyed!"
"I'm afraid that's not good enough!" Shima stated. "I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Hero's Resolve!" The card showed Elemental HERO Wildedge wrestling with a Gene-Warped Warwolf, seemingly winning considering the scared expression Warwolf sported. "Through its effect, if I have a "HERO" monster on the field, I can negate the activation of one of your Spell or Trap Cards, destroy it and inflict 500 points of damage to you! Take this!"
An energy bolt emerged from Shima's Spell Card, destroyed Lightning Vortex, and struck Scarlett, causing her to wince.
Scarlett: 1600→1100 LP
Shima smirked. "When my next turn comes, this duel will be as good as mine!"
"I wouldn't be so sure," Scarlett rebutted. "I summon Gorlag!"
A red fiendish creature with wings, a flaming mane, and a sword made out of fire appeared on the field in Attack Position.

"Gorlag's effect! It gains 500 attack points for every Fire Attribute monster on the field!" Scarlett explained. "There are three monsters, so it gains 1500 attack points!"

"Your monster may be stronger," Shima stated. "But it's not enough to help you win."
"I beg to differ," Scarlett said, confusing Shima. "I activate the Equip Spell Card: Double Arms, equipping it to The Blazing Arms!" An ammunition belt appeared from the sky and attached to the red and black humanoid. "I activate The Blazing Mars's effect! During my Main Phase, I can send all other monsters I control to the Graveyard and inflict 500 points of damage to you for every monster! And thanks to Double Arm's effect, you'll receive double the damage inflicted by Blazing Mars's effect!"
"What!?" Shima said, surprised.
"Since one monster will be sent to the Graveyard…." Theodore said. "That means…"
"Shima takes 1000 points of damage," Skye said, finishing his thought.
"Go, Blazing Mars!"
Gorlag disappeared from Scarlett's field. Immediately afterward, towering pillars of magma erupted around Shima and showered him with his flames, causing him to scream as he fell to his knees from the intense heat.

"We have a winner!" The manager declared to the audience. "The winner is Scarlett Burns!"
"Shima?" Scarlett said, offering him a hand. "That was a good duel. I'm glad I had the opportunity to duel you."
The young man was silent but then laughed as he stood up with her help. "I'm glad I got to duel you as well, Scarlett. And if it's no trouble, maybe you could talk to your dad and have him provide me with some ultra-rare cards?"
Scarlett chuckled. "That's a hard no," she said, upsetting Shima. "But how about I give you a tour of the lab he works instead?"
"Are you serious?" Shima asked with a smile. "I'll take it! I look forward to it."
Scarlett shook his hand. "Me too, Shima." She then turned to the audience. "Alright, everyone! We'll take a short break for autographs before going to the next duel. If you want an autograph, come up straight and orderly!"
To everyone's surprise, the crowd went straight to where Shima was, asking him to sign their Duel Disks.
"I did not see that coming," Lily commented, sweat-dropping at Shima's surprised reaction to the crowd.
"Me neither." Skye agreed. "I expected Scarlett to be the one signing autographs, but it looks like Shima managed to create himself a fanbase.."
"I must admit that Shima did a great job holding his own," Yuji said before narrowing his eyes at Scarlett. "And after seeing how Scarlett duels, I want to go against her."
Ena turned to Yuji. "So you're going to walk up to her and ask her to duel?"
"Not exactly," Yuji replied. "I had a different idea in mind."
A few hours later…
"Cheers to Scarlett's victory!"
"Not so loud, Nina and Robin! I don't want people looking at us!"
The words came from none other than Scarlett. She was sitting in a booth inside a restaurant called MgRonalds. Sitting across from her were two girls. One was a pale-skinned young woman with white hair below her shoulders and crystal blue eyes. She wore a long-sleeved cyan dress top with silver-gray line designs running vertically across it and a sleeveless pure white vest layered over it. She also had a short frilled navy blue skirt, grey leggings, and dark blue boots with black lacing. Sitting next to her was her fair-skinned girl with long curly pink hair with a bright blue ribbon adorning it. She wore a dark blue hoodie, blue and white fingerless gloves, dark blue pants, and black shoes.
"Sorry," Nina said in a whispering tone. "We're just happy you won the tournament. It's a shame we couldn't make it due to cheer practice."
"To be honest, we knew we would win in the end," Robin stated. "We decided to take you out to compensate for not being there to witness your victory."
"Well, thank you for doing this, you guys. I appreciate it," Scarlett said as she grinned.
"Who knows, if you keep this up, you might become a Celebrity Duelist," Nina commented. "Heck, you may become the next King of Games or, rather, Queen of Games."
"Well, I don't know about that, but that does sound cool," Scarlett replied.
"You should always aim for the top, Scarlett. If you do become the next Queen, you will be so popular that many guys will adore you all the time," Robin said as she tried picturing herself.
"That's not exactly how I would picture it," Scarlett said jokingly.
"Hey, sir, could we have our drinks refilled?" Nina asked a nearby employee.
"Sure thing!" The employee replied. "Could you inform me of what drinks you had?"
Before Scarlett could say anything, her Duel Disk vibrated, causing her to take it out of her purse as she looked at it. Her eyes widened as she saw the message was from a familiar user.
"What's wrong? You got a text?" Robin asked.
"Um, yes. Sorry, girls, but I got to go now," she said.
"Huh? Why? We had more stuff planned for you!" Nina exclaimed.
"I know, but this is kind of…. Important," Scarlett explained as she couldn't say the whole truth.
"I see. That's OK. You can go and take care of it now if you want to," Robin said.
"Alright. We'll continue this another night," Nina explained.
Scarlett waved goodbye to the girls and left the restaurant. She went straight home as quickly as possible. Once she returned home, she went to her bedroom, locked the door and reopened the message.
Hey, Scarlett. I saw you in the finals of the Duel Arcade Tournament and was impressed by your skills. Meet me at the coordinates below, and bring your A-game.
Storm Rider.
K3920bmepdswlpfe345
I can't believe Storm Rider wants to duel me. Scarlett thought. He said to bring my A-game. If it's my A-game he wants, it's my A-game.
She placed her Duel Disk on her wrist. "Time to link into the VRAINS!" A blue sphere then appeared around her as she logged into the server.
In LINK VRAINS, at Kolter's private server...
Scarlett logged into the server the coordinates directed her to. However, she now looked completely different. She was now wearing a form-fitting crimson jumpsuit with black patches on her knees, inner thighs, chest, and outer arms with green trims. Silver armor with green highlights covered her shoulders, hands, waist, and feet. Her hair color was now red-violet with two ponytails made of flames. Upon her entry, she was amazed at the area she was in. The ground was covered in lush green grass. The server had a dark-lit sky, with bright stars lighting it up.
"This place is beautiful..."
"I'm glad you like it," a voice commented, causing Scarlett to turn over to the individual ahead of her.
"Storm Rider!" The girl exclaimed.
"The one and only," Storm Rider said. "But I'm not here alone."
Following Storm Rider's words, Sanctum, Roselyn, Blue Maiden and Soulburner, logged in and appeared beside him.
Scarlett's eyes widened. "I can't believe it. The Top 10 are here as well!?"
"It wouldn't be right if we didn't have an audience to watch our duel," Storm Rider said. "Also, if you don't mind me asking, what's your avatar's name?"
"The name's Pyrrha," she answered. "To tell you the truth, one of my dreams was to duel you, Storm Rider." She narrowed her eyes. "And now that it's happening, I don't know how to feel."
Storm Rider smiled. "I understand. But I hope you won't let your nerves get the best of you. Ever since I witnessed your duel against Shima, I've been eager to face you myself."
"My sentiments are similar to yours, Storm Rider." Pyrrha grinned. "I also want to experience the strength that brought down the Arbiters and earned the runner-up position in the SOL Grand Prix. With the help of my Deck, I can take on anything you throw at me!"
"You've got guts. I like that!" Storm Rider exclaimed enthusiastically as he activated his Duel Disk, with Pyrrha following suit. "Let's get this started!"
"Duel!"

Pyrrha: 4000 LP
"As I'm the challenger and a lady at that, it's only fair I go first," Pyrrha stated. "Unless you have any objections, Storm Rider?"
"No, no. You can go first." Storm Rider replied, wanting to see what his opponent could do.
"Good." Pyrrha looked at the cards in her hand before choosing one. "To start, I activate the Continuous Spell Card: Supply Squad! Once per turn, I can draw a card if a monster I control is destroyed by battle or card effect. Next, I activate the Spell Card: Unexpected Dai! Since I control no monsters, I can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from my Deck. Appear, Metalfoes Silverd!"
A pink-haired young woman wearing silver armor on her arms with neon green accents flying on a jet-like aircraft and wielding a futuristic gun appeared on Pyrrha's field in Attack Position.

"What?" Blue Maiden gasped.
"Metalfoes?" Soulburner repeated.
"She changed her Deck," Roselyn realized, her eyes narrowing.
"Not only that, but the monster she summoned is a Pendulum Monster," Sanctum remarked.
"Pendulum Monsters!?" To say that Storm Rider was shocked was an understatement. "That can't be right. What happened to your Volcanic Deck?"
Pyrrha chuckled. "You stated in your message that you wanted me to bring my A-game," she reminded him. "I received this Deck from my father after the Lancers provided him with the necessary technology to create Pendulum Cards. And while I haven't used this Deck in a real official duel, I still had a lot of practice. So I thought, why not use this Deck in my duel against you."
Storm Rider smirked. "I see. Well, since I know you possess Pendulum cards and your father's the head card designer at SOL Technologies, why don't we make things more interesting?"
"Interesting how?" Pyrrha asked.
"As you know, the Top 10 are fighting against the Syndicate. And while we were able to fend off their soldiers, only time will tell before the real battle begins. And to prepare for that, we need to upgrade our Decks through any means. And if you can make specially made Pendulum Cards for each of our Decks."
Pyrrha narrowed her eyes. "I see. So should you beat me, I'll have my father create Pendulum Cards for you. But what do I get should I win? Other than to reject your request."
Storm Rider narrowed his eyes. "Let me ask you a question. Has your father tried to create Cyberse Cards?"
"He has, but sadly fails every time," Pyrrha answered.
"I thought so," Storm Rider said. "Should you win this duel, you get to take my Deck, which will provide the data needed to create Cyberse cards. Even Pendulum versions."
Pyrrha's eyes widened. "Are you serious!?"
"I'm with Pyrrha," Sanctum said. "You can't just bet your whole Deck, Storm Rider! You work way too hard on creating it!"
"I understand, Sanctum," Storm Rider replied. "But I'm willing to put it on the line to ensure we get the tools needed to strengthen our Decks."
Pyrrha smirked. "You sure are prideful. Very well. I accept your bet. But for your sake, I hope you don't regret your decision should you lose. Continuing from where I left off, I set the Pendulum Scale with Scale 1 Metalfoes Goldriver and Scale 8 Metalfoes Volflame!"
Two pillars of light appeared. The first pillar held a black-haired young man clad in golden armor with neon green accents driving a quad bike and wielding a flaming axe-like weapon. The second pillar held was a spiky, gray-haired young man clad in orange armor driving a large tank with neon green accents.

"Now I can simultaneously summon monsters from Levels 2 to 7! But first, I activate the Spell Card: Pendulum Pot!" The card showed a smiling pot colored red on the left and blue on the right. "When this card is activated, I can draw cards from my Deck equal to the number of cards in my Pendulum Zones. Since I have two cards in my Pendulum Zones, I can draw two cards!"
After drawing her cards, Pyrrha pointed upward. "I activate Goldriver's Pendulum Effect! By destroying a face-up card on my field, I can set a "Metalfoes" Spell or Trap Card from my Deck in my Spell & Trap Zone. I destroy Silverd to set Metalfoes Fusion!"
Silverd exploded as a Set card materialized on Pyrrha's field.
"Also, since my monster was destroyed, Supply Squad's effect activates, and I draw one card!" Pyrrha drew, then gestured to her field. "With the set Pendulum Scale, I can Special Summon monsters between Levels 2 and 7!" she shouted. "Come forth! Two copies of Metalfoes Silverd!"
A portal opened between the pillars, out of which two lights emerged. The lights hit the field and dissipated, revealing two copies of Silverd.

"Next, I activate the Spell Card: Metalfoes Fusion!" Pyrrha continued. "Through its effect, I can perform a Fusion Summon using "Metalfoes" monsters from my hand or field! I fuse both copies of Metalfoes Silverd!"
His monsters disintegrated into particles that formed a vortex. Two whirlwinds, colored red and blue, emerged from the vortex before merging into a purple tornado.
"I Fusion Summon! Come forth! Metalfoes Adamante!"
A monster clad in armor resembling a motorcycle's parts and holding two flaming blades appeared on Pyrrha's field.

"Through this card's effect, I can inflict 800 points of damage to my opponent if I have two "Metalfoes" cards in my Pendulum Zones. Take this!"
Streams of fire erupted from the blaster Adamante was holding, enveloping Storm Rider and causing cries of pain to escape his mouth.

"Looks like I've taken the lead," Pyrrha smirked. "I place two cards face-down and end my turn."
"Then, it's my turn!" Storm Rider announced. "I draw!"
Pyrrha gestured to her field. "Since you now have six cards in your hand, while I have none, I can activate the Trap Card: Gamble!"
"She's going to risk it on a coin toss," Soulburner wondered.
"What does it do?" Roselyn asked.
"It allows Pyrrha to flip a coin. If she calls it right, she gets to draw five cards. If she doesn't, she skips her next turn," Blue Maiden explained.
"Well, given how her hand was empty, it makes sense she would have a card ready to refill it," Sanctum.
A holographic coin appeared before Pyrrha, which she grabbed and held ready, "I pick tails!"
Pyrrha flicked the coin high up into the air before descending. The coin fell onto Pyrrha's right hand, which she quickly covered with her left to stop it from falling. The spectators watched as she slowly removed her left hand to reveal...
"Talis!" Pyrrha rejoiced, "I can draw five cards!"
Storm Rider narrowed his eyes. "Guess it's time for me to resort to Plan B. I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Cycode Operation!" The card showed a control room with multiple screens and multiple Cyscode Coders, all sitting at monitors and staring at the screens. "During my Main Phase, I can add a Level 4 or lower "Cycode" monster from my Deck to my hand."
Storm Rider took the card from his Deck, then played it. "Since you control monsters and I don't, I can Special Summon Cycode Swordsman from my hand!"
A man in cybernetic blue armor carrying futuristic swords appeared.

Storm Rider's hand shot a lightning bolt, creating a Link Portal.
"Link Arrow authorized! The summoning condition is one "Cycode" monster. I set Cycode Swordsman in the Link Arrow!"
His monster became a whirlwind of energy and entered the bottom-left arrow, turning red.

His monsters became whirlwinds of energy and entered the bottom, bottom-left, and bottom-right arrows, turning them red.

"Fortress Golem's effect activates! Whenever a monster is summoned next to its Link Arrow, it gains 400 attack points, and one monster you control loses 800 attack points until the end of the turn. I target Adamante!"
Golem glowed purple as it clapped its hands and roared, creating a huge shockwave toward Gae Bulg, draining its strength.

"Bad idea," she said in a devilish voice. "I activate the Trap Card:Sakuretsu Armor! It destroys your attacking monster!"
Sakuretsu Armor sent a blast of energy at Fortress Golem, destroying it in an explosion.
Storm Rider only narrowed his eyes and played a card from his hand. "I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Cycode Strike!" The card showed Cycode Deleter charging a monster with its batons while Cycode Talker lay on the ground. "Since a "Cycode" Link Monster I control was destroyed by your card effect, I can Special Summon a different "Cycode" Link Monster from my Extra Deck, so long as its Link Rating is equal to the destroyed monster's!"
"What?" Pyrrha said, surprised.
"Fortress Golem was Link-3," Storm Rider reminded Pyrrha. "Come, Cycode Gaia Charger!"
A monster resembling Gaia the Fierce Knight, with its body merged with a winged robotic horse wielding digital energy lances, appeared and roared from the Extra Monster Zone.

"Awesome!" Soulburner exclaimed. "He replaced his destroyed monster with a new one."
"Hmm. Not a bad follow-up," Pyrrha commented.
"It gets better," Storm Rider said. "Cycode Strike treats this Special Summon as a Link Summon, and thanks to Gaia Charger's effect, all your monsters lose half their attack points!" Pyrrha's eyes widened. "Go, Jamming Javelin!"
Gaia Charger aimed its lance at the Metalfoes Fusion Monster, releasing a wave of electricity that drained its power.

"That's not all I've done," Storm Rider said. "Thanks to Gaia's second effect, it can attack twice. And with one more attack, you're finished!"
"I'm afraid to say that you're wrong," Pyrhha stated, confusing Storm Rider. "From my hand, I activate Cataclysmic Scorching Sunburner's effect! When a Fire monster I control is destroyed, I can Special Summon this card!"
Following Pyrrha's words, a giant creature with red skin and four arms arose from their ashes. It wore a blue coat tied around its waist and had yellow markings evoking flames on its arms. In one of its right hands, it held a sword made of flame.

Storm Rider's eyes widened. "I target Metalfoes Adamante in my Graveyard and deal half of its 2500 attack as damage to you!"
A fireball formed in Scorching Sunburner's hand and threw it at Storm Rider, who winced from being hit.

"Finally, Supply Squad's effect activates! I now draw one card since you destroyed my monster."
"I thought I could finish you in one go, but I was mistaken." Storm Rider smiled. "Not bad, Pyrrha. But don't think I will make your next turn an easy one. I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Twin Twisters! By discarding one card from my hand, I can target up to two Spell and Trap Cards on the field and destroy them. I target and destroy both your Pendulum Cards!"
Following Storm Rider's words, he discarded a card from his hand as two twisters formed and destroyed the cards in Pyrrha's Pendulum Zones.
"And since the card I discarded was Cards of Compensation, I now get to draw two extra cards. I place two cards face-down and end my turn. It's your turn, Pyrrha. Let's see how you'll respond to my moves now."
"Even though it seemed Storm Rider had this duel in the bag, Pyrrha prevented that from happening." Blue Maiden said, looking at the duel.
"But he still managed to destroy her Pendulum Scale," Roselyn replied. "So he doesn't have to worry about summoning many monsters.."
"Roselyn, you're forgetting that Pyrrha can still rebuild her Pendulum Scale." Sanctum reminded him. "As long as she has that, she still can make a comeback."
Pyrrha narrowed her eyes. "My turn! I draw!" She drew her card and looked at it. Not bad, she thought. "I activate the Spell Card: Magical Pendulum Box! I draw two cards; if they are Pendulum Monsters, they are added to my hand. Otherwise, they are sent to the Graveyard. Now, draw!"
Pyrrha drew two cards and revealed them while grinning.
"They are both Pendulum Monsters, so I add them to my hand." Then she held the two cards up. "Using the Scale 1 Ultrametalfoes Sodriver and the Scale 9 Ultrametalfoes Berylliumite, I set the Pendulum Scale!"
Two columns of lights also appeared next to Pyrrha, with her two monsters rising to their top. In the left pillar was a male rider on a hoverboard made of sodium-like material with wings, wielding a large blast in his left hand. In the right pillar was a female rider driving a motorcycle with flaming wheels and blades sticking out in the front.

A portal opened between the pillars. Three lights shot out of the portal and then reformed into a brown-hair male rider driving a weaponized tank made of iron and an orange-haired female riding a weaponized jet made of cobalt with mini machine guns on its sides. "I return Cycode Swordsman!" Storm Rider answered said as his monster disappeared from the field.
"Next, Cobaltame's effect!" Pyrrha continued. "When summoned, you take 300 points of damage for every "Metalfoes" card on my field. "There are four cards, so you take 1200 points of damage!"
"I don't think so," Storm Rider said, taking a card from his hand. "I activate the effect of Cycode Saver in my hand! When I would take effect damage, I can Special Summon this monster!"
A dwarf mechanical-like alien in white armor carrying a small shield appeared on Storm Rider's field in Defense Position.

"And now, thanks to Cycode Saver's effect, the damage is negated, and I gain Life Points equal to the negated damage!"
The shield in Saver's hands glowed, as did Storm Rider.

"And for the rest of the turn, I take no effect damage!"
Pyrrha was stunned. With one card, Storm Rider had managed to recover Life Points. But she still had plenty of other moves to make.
"I activate the Spell Card: Ultrametalfoes Fusion!" The card showed Raremetalfoes Bismugear and Parametalfoes Melcaster in a vortex equipped with futuristic metallic armor glowing blue and green, respectively, swirling around it, trailing streams of energy. "Through its effect, by using monsters from my field or Pendulum Zones, I can Fusion Summon a "Metalfoes" Fusion Monster!"
Storm Rider smirked back at Pyrrha, surprising her. "That is indeed a game-changer card. But it is wasted. I activate the Trap Card: Cycode Shutdown!" The card showed Cycode Leo trapped in a net, electricity coursing over it, and missile launchers sparking. "Since I control a "Cycode" monster, I can negate the activation of your Spell Card and banish it!"
Pyrrha gasped as Ultrametalfoes Fusion glitched out and then warped away.
"Furthermore, so long as Shutdown is in my Graveyard, you cannot activate cards with the same original name as the banished card."
"He prevented Pyrrha from Fusion Summoning!" Soulburner said excitedly.
"…So you were prepared for that," Pyrrha said with a light smirk. "Well, it's a good thing I expected you to do that." Storm Rider blinked on seeing the smile on Pyrrha's face. I activate the Spell Card: Fusion Substitute! This card is always treated as Polymerization. And just like the original, I can use it to fuse my Ultrametalfoes Irondum and Cobaltame!"
Her monsters separated into red and blue particles that swirled into a vortex. The particles turned into streams of energy that soared upwards before merging into a violet whirlwind.
"I Fusion Summon! Appear, Metalfoes Orichalc!"
Emerging from the portal was a male humanoid with armor parts reminiscent of a motorcycle attached to its body. He held two flaming axes and swung them as he appeared on Pyrhha's field in Attack Position.

"Next, I activate the Spell Card Metalfoes Transmutation!" Pyrrha declared as the card showed Metalfoes Bismugear's bike dissembling and equipping itself onto her, becoming Fullmetalfoes Alkahest. "Thanks to its effect, I can target a "Metalfoes" Fusion Monster I control and Special Summon a "Metalfoes" Fusion Monster with a lower Level than it from my Extra Deck by ignoring its summoning conditions. Come, Metalfoes Citrinus!"
A monster clad in bright yellow armor with several wheels attached, which held a flaming whip, appeared on the field in Attack Position.

"Two Fusion Monsters in one turn," Soulburner noted. "Pyrrha surely is putting out all the stop."
Storm Rider narrowed his eyes at the two Metalfoes Fusion Monsters and smirked. "Alright, show me what you've got!"
Pyrrha smirked. "Someone's eager... But I'll come at you with all my power! First, by banishing Fusion Substitute from my Graveyard, I can return Metalfoes Adamante to my Extra Deck and draw a card. Next, I activate the Field Spell Card: Molten Destruction! While this card is active, all Fire monsters gain 500 attack points and lose 400 defense points."

"In that case, I activate the Trap Card: Broken Cycode!" Storm Rider declared. "When my "Cycode" monster battles your monster, Broken Cycode increases my Life Points by your monster's attack points!"
"What?!" Pyrrha gasped.
"Orichalc has 3300 attack points, so I gain 3300 Life Points!"
Storm Rider: 3150→6450 LP
"Even if you survive the turn, your monster won't!"
Orichalc slashed Saver in half with its axe, destroying it and causing Storm Rider to scream in pain due to the ensuing shockwave.

"Next, my Metalfoes Citrinus will attack your Gaia Charger!"
Citrinus swung its whip at Gaia, cleaving it in half and destroying it.

"Finally, Scorching Sunburner attacks you directly!"
"I activate the effect of the Cycode Battler in my hand!" Storm Rider declared, surprising Pyrrha. "If you attack me directly, I can Special Summon this card in Attack Position!"
A muscular robot in boxer's clothes, with red boxing gloves, blue shorts, a white tank top, and red headgear, appeared on Storm Rider's field.

Pyrrha narrowed her eyes. "Very well then. Scorching Sunburner, attack Cycode Battler!"
Sunburner used its flaming sword to pierce Battler's chest, destroying it. Storm Rider winced from the damage.
Storm Rider: 2050→450 LP
"When Battler is destroyed by battle, I can add one "Cycode" monster from my Graveyard to my hand," Storm Rider said. "I return Cycode Prisoner to my hand. Furthermore, at the end of the Battle Phase, Broken Cycode's second effect activates. I get to draw two cards since I control no monstera!"
"That's all I can do for now," Pyrrha remarked. "I activate the effect of Pendulum Pot from my Graveyard! By banishing this card, I can draw a card for every card in my Pendulum Zones. Since I have two cards in my Pendulum Zones, I can draw two cards. Finally, I place one card face-down and end my turn."
"Oi, oi, isn't that quite bad?" Roselyn commented. "He's facing three monsters with at least 3000 attack points. How's Storm Rider supposed to get out from this?"
"Relax, it'll be alright," Sanctum said. "Storm Rider has barely begun showing his full power here. Taking those monsters down should be a simple matter for him."
"My turn!" Storm Rider announced. "I draw! I activate the Spell Card: Cyberse Call! I add a Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster from my Deck to my hand. I add Cycode Swordsman. And since I control no monsters, I can Special Summon it through its effect!"
The man with two swords reappeared.

"Since Swordsman was Special Summoned by its effect, I can add one "Cycode" monster from my Deck to my hand," Storm Rider continued as a card slid out from his Deck, which he then showed to his opponent. "I Special Summon Cycode Serpent!"
A white robotic snake appeared in Attack Position.

The armored man became a whirlwind of energy and entered the right arrow, turning red.
"Link the Circuit! I Link Summon! Link-1! Cycode Apprentice!"
A young mage in digital orange and gray hooded magician robes, wielding a small wand lit in flames, emerged from the portal, summoned to Extra Monster Zone.

"Since Dancer was Normal Summoned while I control a "Cycode" monster, I can Special Summon a Level 2 or lower "Cycode" monster from my hand or Deck." A card popped out of his Deck, which he took and placed on his Duel Disk. "I summon Cycode Coder!"
An alien in a lab coat appeared on its field. It carried a laptop under one arm and had small pieces of armor on its shoulders and lower legs.

"Coder's effect continues!" Storm Rider continued. "When this monster is Summoned, I can add one "Cycode" card from my Deck to my hand, but then I must send a card from my hand, Deck, or field to the Graveyard."
Storm Rider took two cards from his Deck. He added one to his hand and sent the other to the Graveyard.
"Now, I'll create my circuit!"
The Link Portal appeared above Storm Rider.
"Link Arrows authorized! The summoning conditions are two Cyberse monsters. I set Cycode Dancer and Apprentice in the Link Arrows!"
Both his monsters became whirlwinds of energy before entering the left and bottom arrows.
"Link the Circuit! I Link Summon! Link-2! Cycode Magician!"

Then, I activate the Spell Card: Extra Treasure, which lets me draw three cards since three monsters on the field were summoned from the Extra Deck. From there, I'll build my circuit again! The summoning conditions are two Cyberse monsters, including a "Cycode" monster. I set Cycode Coder and Cycode Serpent in the Link Arrows!"
His monsters became whirlwinds of energy and entered the bottom and right arrows, turning red.
"Link the Circuit! I Link Summon! Link-2! Cycode Leo!"
A large, white fur-like digital lion with a blue circuit pattern lining its body with blue fangs and claws appeared next to Cycode Magician's bottom Link Arrow.

"Two Link Monsters in one turn," Sanctum muttered. "Looks like he decided to kick things up a notch."
"Cycode Magician's second effect activates! When a monster is summoned to its Link Arrow, I can banish one card on your field! Say goodbye to your Metalfoes Orichalc!"
"Not so fast!" Pyrrha abruptly declared. "I activate the Trap Card: Altar for Tribute! I send my Metalfoes Orichalc to the Graveyard and gain Life Points equal to its original attack points!"
"What?" Storm Rider said, watching with surprise as Orichalc disappeared and a green light surrounded Pyrrha.

"I activate Orichalc's effect! When it's sent to the Graveyard, I can target and destroy a card on the field! I destroy your Cycode Magician!"
A burst of fire in the shape of Orichalc erupted from a small portal and flew towards Magician.
"I don't think so!" Storm Rider yelled. "I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Cycode Coating! Until the end of the turn, one "Cycode" I monster I control is unaffected by your card effects!"
"What?!" Pyrrha gasped.
"I target Cycode Magician!"
The woman's body became clear, causing the flames to pass through it.
"I'm far from done!" Storm Rider said. "I activate the Equip Spell Card: Cycode Multiplier and equip it to Cycode Magician!" Cycode Magician glowed green when the card was equipped. "Now, Cycode Magician can attack twice during the Battle Phase."
"That's not good…." Pyrrha muttered.
"Now, let's battle!" Storm Rider exclaimed. "Cycode Magician attacks Metalfoes Citrinus!"
"Have you lost it?" Pyrrha sneered. "Metalfoes's attack points are far superior to your monster's!"
"I activate the Cycode Leo's effect!" Storm Rider declared. "Since Cycode Magician is next to Leo's Link Arrow, she gains 1000 more attack points, but since the two are co-linked, they both gain 1000 attack points until the end of the Battle Phase!"
"What?!"

"That's the way, Storm Rider!" Sanctum cheered.
"Supply Squad's effect activates!" Pyrrha stated. "Since you destroyed Citrinus, I get to draw a card!"
"Cycode Multiplier allows Cycode Magician to attack twice," Storm Rider reminded Pyrrha. "Cycode Magician attacks Cataclysmic Scorching Sunburner!"
Cycode Magician blasted Sunburner with energy waves destroying it and making Pyrrha grunt in pain.

"Lastly, Cycode Leo attacks you directly!"
Leo growled as it let out a blue energy blast from its mouth at Pyrrha, pushing her back several feet.

"I place two cards face-down and end my turn."
Pyrrha narrowed her eyes at Storm Rider. "You may feel confident now that you've destroyed my monsters, but don't let this lull you into a false sense of security. What you've been experiencing was nothing but a warm-up. The real battle starts now. My turn! I draw!"
Storm Rider smirked as he gestured to his field. "I activate the Continuous Trap Card: Pendulum Shatter!" He declared, surprising Pyrrha as the card showed a Pendulum crystal suddenly shattering. "With this card's effect, all cards in the Pendulum Zone are destroyed!"
Several lightning bolts were shot from the sky, destroying the cards in Pyrrha's Pendulum Zones.
"Furthermore, as long as Pendulum Shatter remains on the field, neither player can Pendulum Summon nor place cards in the Pendulum Zones!"
Pyrrha's eyes widened. "What!? I can't Pendulum Summon anymore!?" she said in surprise.
"This is the surest way to limit your tactics," Storm Rider replied. "So show me whether you can defeat me without Pendulum Summoning!"
"That was a good move," Sanctum commented. "Pyrrha's Deck mostly revolved around Pendulum Monsters. Her bizarre combos are also prohibited if her ability to summon them is sealed."
"Pyrrha's options sure have been limited," Blue Maiden remarked. "However, I don't believe she'll be deterred by that much. Such tactics like that are only a minor speed bump for her."
Pyrrha gritted her teeth. She had to admit, that was a smart play Storm Rider made; her Deck focused mostly around Pendulum Summoning and Fusion Summoning. With no way of Pendulum Summoning her monsters out to the field, it would be difficult for her to win this duel without it.
"I activate Ultrametalfoes Sodriver and Berylliumite's Pendulum Effects!" Pyrrha declared. "When they're destroyed while in the Pendulum Zone, I can Special Summon a "Metalfoes" monster from my Deck! Appear, Ultrametalfoes Zincum and Ultrametalfoes Magnsiumite!"
Following Pyrrha's words, two new monsters appear on her field. The first was a male rider wearing a jumpsuit similar to Beryilluimite driving a snowmobile-like vehicle and wielding a large sledgehammer with a fiery tip. The second was a male also wearing body armor with flaming wheels and shields attached, wielding a round-bladed axe.

Magnesiumite shot a wave of flames from its hammer that engulfed Magician and destroyed it.
"Second, since Zincum was Special Summoned, I can add a "Fusion" card from my Deck to my hand. However, I won't need to play it since one attack will finish you. Battle! Magnesiumite attacks Cycode Leo!"
The armored male charged at Leo with his axe ready. But before the attack hit-.
"I activate the Trap Card: Cycode Battle Barrier!" Storm Rider declared. "Since I have a "Cycode" monster either on my field or in my Graveyard, the battle damage is reduced to 0!"
Vermillion raised and slammed Cycode Leo with its hammer, destroying it. But a barrier formed around Storm Rider, preventing him from taking damage.
"Furthermore, Battle Barrier ends the Battle Phase."
"You may have stopped me, but it looks like you're all out of tricks," Pyrrha stated. "I place three cards face-down and end my turn."
"It's my turn!" Storm Rider announced. "I draw!"
"I activate the Continuous Trap Card: Backfire!" Pyrrha abruptly declared. "When a Fire monster I control is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, you take 500 points of damage! And with only 450 Life Points left, you'll instantly lose."
Blue Maiden frowned. "This is bad. Since Pyrrha's cards have effects that allow them to destroy her cards, she can easily finish Storm Rider off."
"There's no need to worry," Sanctum said. "Storm Rider will find a way to maneuver Backfire."
Storm Rider looked at the card he drew, then played it. "I activate the Spell Card: Cycode Gift!" The card showed a present box opened in front of Cycode Kuriboh. The box glowed from the inside as Kuriboh's eyes widened. "I can now draw two cards by discarding a "Cycode" card."
He sent Cycode Prisoner to the Graveyard and drew. On seeing what he drew, he smiled. This will work.

His monsters entered the top-left, top, bottom, and top-right arrows.
"The new wind that flows throughout this world gives the mighty creature that connects the past and future! I Link Summon! Appear, Link-4! Cyber Tech Link Dragon!"
The dragon that emerged from the portal had a blue body, white and yellow lining, and silver claws. It also had a spiral-like tail and jet-like energy wings with white and blue-lining eyes like a circuit board. Two large horns on its head faced forward, with a smaller one on the back of its head. "Your ace monster has finally appeared," Pyrrha remarked. "However, you won't find much use for it here. You need to have a monster on your field to activate its effect, and last I checked, you have none."
"That's about to change," Storm Rider reassured. "Since the monster Special Summoned by Cycode Core was used as Link Material, I get to draw a card."
Storm Rider drew his card, looked at it and smirked.
"I activate the Spell Card: One-Time Passcode! This card lets me Special Summon a Security Token in Defense Position!"
A small black and gray machine with a single blue orb in its center appeared, summoned to Cyber Tech's bottom Link Arrow.

Following Storm Rider's words, the Security Token disintegrated into energy and traveled to the electronic circuits on Cyber Tech's wings, lit up with swirling blue energy. The orbs released tendrils of said energy, which fired at the designated monster, snaring it up and placing it at Cyber Tech's bottom Link Arrow.
"Then, it gains attack points equal to Magnesiumite's!"
Cyber Tech's eyes glowed blue while the same colored aura formed around its body, increasing its strength.

Cyber Tech flew above Zincum and roared directly at it. All circuits on Cyber Tech's body lit as dark blue energy traveled across its skin. The energy gathered in its mouth before releasing it toward the Pendulum Monster.
Pyrrha gestured to her field. "I activate the Continuous Trap Card: Spirit Barrier!" she declared as the stream of energy obliterated Ultrametalfoes Zincum. "Thanks to its effect, if I control a monster, all battle damage is reduced to 0. And thanks to Backfire's effect, you take 500 points of damage. In other words, this duel is over!"
The card blasted Storm Rider with fire, causing an explosion. But when the smoke cleared, Storm Rider was unharmed.
"Sorry to burst your bubble, but thanks to Cycode Conjurer's effect, when it's Link Summoned, I don't take any effect damage until the next turn's End Phase," Storm Rider explained.
Pyrrha smirked. "Not bad. But don't think I'm done just yet. I get to draw a card thanks to Supply Squad's effect."
"In that case, I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Mystik Wok!" Storm Rider declared. "This card lets me Tribute a monster and gain Life Points equal to its attack or defense points. I Tribute Ultrametalfoes Magnesiumite and gain Life Points equal to its attack points."

The three monsters she spoke of reappeared on her field before disintegrating into red, blue, and green particles.
"Alloys of Life! Combine to become the mythical material from space! With your new armor, push the limits of the flames and blast off into new heights! I Fusion Summon! Ultrametalfoes Meteorient!"
A massive female entity with the combined vehicle parts of Irondum, Cobaltame and Sodrive to emerged from the whirlwind. Pyrrha smirked. "The only card I control is Meteorient, but that's more than enough because I'm returning your Cyber Tech Link Dragon to your Extra Deck! Meteor Crisis!"
Meteorient fired multiple missiles from its shoulder cannons at Cyber Tech, making contact and causing it to disappear from the field.
Storm Rider grimaced before gesturing to his field. "I activate Cycode Knight's effect from my Graveyard! By banishing it and shuffling Cycode Swordsman, Acrobat, Linker, Nova, and Prisoner back into my Deck, I get to draw two cards." He looked the two cards over, then looked up Meteorient. His eyes widened in surprise, then narrowed. "I place one card face-down and end my turn."
"It's my turn!" Pyrrha announced. "I draw!"
"At this moment, I activate the Trap Card: Breakthrough Skill!" Storm Rider abruptly declared. "This card lets me target a face-up monster you control and negate its effects until the end of the turn. I target Ultrametalfoes Meteorient!"
Breakthrough Skill then glowed and greyed out Meteorient, much to Pyrrha's dismay.
Pyrrha narrowed her eyes at Storm Rider. "I see you looked up Meteorient's effect. Not bad, but you're still going to lose! Battle! Ultrametalfoes Meteorient, attack Storm Rider directly! Meteor Slash!"
Ultrametalfoes Meteorient charged at Storm Rider at insane as it raised its sword and became engulfed in flames. He remained calm and gestured to his field.
"I activate the effect of Cyspirit Battle Barrier in my Graveyard!" he said. "As I have a "Cycode" monster in my Graveyard, I take no damage from this battle!"
A barrier appeared and blocked Meteorient's attack, but it eventually shattered under pressure, making Storm Rider wince as he was pushed back.
"In addition, the second effect of Cycode Battle Barrier activates! I draw cards equal to the number of monsters you control, in this case, one!" Storm Rider smirked. "Unfortunately for you, I haven't given up on this duel just yet, Pyrrha!"
"So it would seem," Pyrrha said with a dissatisfied expression but then smiled. "However, you're not out of the woods just yet. I activate the Spell Card: Surprise Attack From Beyond! Through its effect, I can conduct a second Battle Phase this turn with monsters that have already attacked!"
Storm Rider's eyes widened. "What?"

A card ejected from Storm Rider's Duel Disk as he took it and placed it in his hand.
Pyrrha narrowed her eyes. What card did he choose?
"All the conditions are met," Storm Rider said as he took the recently added card and played it. "I activate the Spell Card: Cycode Fusion!"
"What?!" Pyrrha gasped. "That's the card you added!? A Fusion card!?"
The card showed two monsters resembling Cycode Skywalker and the other Cycode Talker, fusing themselves with the cybernetic-like Fusion portal in the background. "With this card, I send Fusion Material monsters from my hand and field to the Graveyard to summon a "Cycode" Fusion Monster! I fuse Cycode Skywalker and Cycode Priestess!"
His two monsters disintegrated into red and blue particles, respectively. Said particles swirled together into a vortex before spiraling upwards as energy streams. The streams converged, creating a whirlwind of purple energy.
"The supreme blade that cleaves the wind! Bring forth the new legend!" Storm Rider chanted as he gestured to his field, the lines on his suit glowing a soft purple. "I Fusion Summon! Come out! Cycode Lordwalker!"
A golden greatsword split the whirlwind, revealing the monster inside. The monster looked like an evolved version of Cycode Skywalker, but with his outfit more kingly, his visor more digital, and his cape had energy-like wings. He wielded a large, energy golden greatsword with blue lining and handle grip. He swung the sword as he appeared on Storm Rider's field in Attack Position.

"A "Cycode" Fusion Monster…" Pyrrha said as she stared at the monster in awe. She regained focus and narrowed her eyes at Storm Rider. "That was very unexpected and impressive, Storm Rider. However, my Meterorient has 3500 attack points. You'll need more than that to defeat it."
"I'm aware of that." Storm Rider replied as he gestured to his field. "I activate Cycode Lordwalker's effect! Once per turn, I can target and destroy a card on the field. I choose to destroy your face-down card!"
Lordwalker swung his arms, sending a beam of blue light at Pyrrha's face-down, destroying it, revealing it to be Battle Fusion.
"Battle!" Storm Rider declared. "Cycode Lordwalker attacks Ultrametalfoes Meteorient!"
"What!?" Pyrrha gasped. Savage Shogun unsheathed its sword, clasped it in both hands, then charged Zeronafinity. "Have you lost your mind? My monster's stronger than yours! So why would you attack?"
"This is why! Lordwalker's effect activates! When it attacks, its attack points are doubled!"
Pyrrha gasped again as Lordwalker glowed.
Cycode Lordwaler ATK 2600→5200
"I did not see this coming..." Pyrrha muttered, surprised that Storm Rider had this strategy planned.
Storm Rider thrust out his right hand. "End this duel, Lordwalker! Termination Slash!"
Lordwalker's sword glowed gold as it swung the sword to its left side. In the blink of an eye, Lordwalker slashed through Ultrametalfoes Meteorient and appeared behind it. Lordwalker sheathed its sword just in time for Meteorient to explode. Pyrrha screamed as she was launched off the ground before hitting the ground.

"That was a great Duel, Pyrrha." Storm Rider said as he approached the fallen duelist, extending his hand. "I've certainly experienced firsthand how much of a skilled duelist you are."
"But not skilled enough as it seems," Pyrrha smirked as she grabbed Storm Rider's hand, with the latter helping her up. "I knew I probably wouldn't win when you summoned that Fusion Monster to yours. To be honest, I even forgot you had that monster. Oh well, a good lesson for next time."
"And as per our agreement, you'll have your father develop Pendulum Cards for us and the rest of the Top 10."
"Of course," Pyrrha said with a smile. "You beat me fair and square, and I'm a woman of my word. So, I'll uphold my end of the bargain. That said, I do have my request for you."
"What's that?"
Pyrrha held out a hand. "I need each of you to provide me a card of yours," Storm Rider blinked, then handed her Cycode Talker. Sanctum and the others approached her and handed over Salamangreat Heatleo, Marincess Marbled Rock, Mekk-Knight Spectrum Supreme and Black Rose Dragon. "I bet all of you are wondering why I need your cards. It's simple. To make cards suited for a specific archetype, my father needs to scan a card or cards related to that archetype."
"Makes sense," Storm Rider said. "Just out of curiosity, how long will it take for you to develop them?"
"Normally, it would be a few days since my dad has other projects and assignments, but luckily he got off of work early today, so if I logged out now, the two of us can pull out an all-nighter and have them done by tomorrow afternoon."
"That's good to hear," Soulburner said. "Thank god tomorrow's Saturday."
"Is there a place we should meet at?" Roselyn asked.
"How about the Shopping District?" Pyrrha suggested.
"Sounds good to me," Blue Maiden replied. "Hopefully, you and your father will succeed in creating Cyberse Pendulum cards, given how SOL Technologies didn't create Cyberse cards."
"Don't worry. My father and I love a challenge. So I say bring it on!"
"Glad to hear the enthusiasm," Sacrum said. "But promise us one thing. Our identities stay a secret between us."
"Sanctum's right," Storm Rider said. "We're putting our trust in you, Pyrrha. So don't disappoint us. Understand?"
"I understand," she replied. "If we're all done here, I'll see all of you tomorrow."
Within moments, everyone logged out of the private server.
At Kolter's apartment…
As the blue spheres disappeared around everyone, Yuji was the first to return, forced to take a knee. Soon, everyone else returned, one by one.
"That duel took a bigger toll on you than anticipated, didn't it?" Ena said, walking to where he was and helping him up.
"It sure did." Yuji agreed with her.
"I just received mentioned from Scarlett," Skye mentioned. "She and her father just started to work on creating the cards."
"So I guess we should head home and wait to hear from her," Lily said.
"That's a good idea," Theodore said. "See you guys' tomorrow!"
Following his words, Theodore, Skye, and Lily exited the apartment, leaving Yuji and Ena alone.
"Guess we should hang up for the night, huh?" Ena asked.
Yuji nodded. "We have a big tomorrow. So let us hope that Scarlett and her father can make Pendulum Cards for us."
"Me too."
Yuji and Ena went to their rooms and shut down for the night.
The next day, at the Den City Shopping District…
Yuji and the others arrived at the Den City Shopping District, walking towards a place known as Starbucks Coffee. It was a simple coffee shop with coffee, Frappuccinos, teas, sandwiches and pastries. After Yuji and Ena left the apartment, they met with Skye, Theodore, and Lily. Once they were all together, they contacted Scarlett and told her they were ready to meet.
Eventually, the five teens reached the coffee shop, where they saw Scarlett sitting at one of the tables.
"Thanks for coming, everyone," Scarlett said as the quintet sat down in the chairs beside her.
"It's no problem," Yuji replied. "Let's cut to the chase. Were you and your father able to create Pendulum Cards?"
"Straight to the point, huh?" Scarlett said. "No, how are you doing or was it difficult? But I understand. To answer your question, we succeeded."
"Awesome!" Theodore shouted in joy. "I was worried for a bit."
"I second that," Lily said. "Do you have them on you right now?
"Sure do," Scarlett replied before placing a small briefcase next to her on the table. She proceeded to open it. "As per your request, my father studied the cards you gave me and analyzed records of your previous battles from SOL's database," she explained. "With your fight against the Syndicate intensifying, you must strengthen your Decks to stand a chance against them. By utilizing these cards properly, you'll evolve as duelists and surpass your current limits."
Ena smiled as she picked up her cards. "Thank you, Scarlett. You have our gratitude. I promise to use this new power you have bestowed upon us to swiftly end the Syndicate's reign."
As Skye, Theodore and Lily grabbed their cards, Yuji raised an eyebrow. "So I take it you and your father couldn't make Pendulum Cards for me?" he asked, noticing no cards for him.
Scarlett frowned and shook her head. "No, we could not," she said. "Since you created the Cycode archetype, we couldn't identify your cards' element in time. That said…"
She took out an envelope from her pocket and handed it to Yuji. He opened it and looked inside. His eyes widened.
"This is…?"
"I assume from the expression on your face that those cards should be sufficient for you."
"…" Yuji nodded in agreement.
Scarlett smiled as she got up from her chair. "Perfect. As much as I would love to stay and chat, I have plans with some friends. Catch you guys later."
The five waved Scarlett goodbye as she left the area.
"So what do we do now?" Lily asked.
"Beats me," Skye said. "It would be such a drag doing nothing on a Saturday."
"I have an idea," Theodore stated. "How about we test our Pendulum Cards out?"
"Test them out?" Ena asked.
"How so?" Yuji questioned.
"By having a duel, of course," Theodore answered. "I'm positive Scarlett and her father would want us to test their effectiveness, and what better way to do that is by dueling each other? Plus, we don't know when the Syndicate will attack again, so it's best we do it while we have the chance. And if it helps, we can use the private server to test them out. So what do you guys say?"
Everyone pondered this for a while. Theodore made some good points here. A duel would kill two birds with one stone, so there was no reason to refuse his idea.
"Why not?" Yuji eventually said. "Let's do it."
"Kolter shut down the truck for the day to hang out with Jin," Ena mentioned. "And Yusaku's back at the apartment trying to locate the Syndicate. In other words, we're good to go."
"Perfect!" Theodore exclaimed as the others left the table and headed down the road.
Ten minutes later...
After a long walk, the quintet reached their destination. The Cafe Nom food truck. They entered inside and entered the sealed room.
"Is everyone ready?" Yuji asked as the others nodded in response. They proceeded to put on their Duel Disks and raised them.
"Time to link into the VRAINS!"

Well, that was chapter 18. I initially had just the Storm Rider and Pyrrha duel, but I eventually added another to make the minimum number of words I'd like my chapters for this story to have.
In the next chapter, the Synchro Dimension arc officially begins. Until then, please read and review.
