Gwen & Obadiah

Gwen waited for the next door to open in the gauntlet she had to pass through to see Obadiah Stane. Why SHIELD had dragged her into this high security prison, she had no idea besides that it was imperative for national security reasons. Phil Coulsin had shown up at her apartment unannounced and requested she come with him. When it first happened, she thought the gig might be up for Spider-Woman. Obadiah smiled that winning smile of his and stood up when he saw her. He gave her a tight hug. She half-heartedly returned it. They parted and she sat down across from him.

"Gwen, I'm so happy to see you."

Gwen folded her hands in front of her on the table.

"It is not like I was given a choice, Obadiah. Why am I here? Obviously, you haven't told them everything."

Obadiah held his chest.

"That hurts, Gwen, it really does."

Gwen glanced at the obvious camera in the room then back to Obadiah.

"You're here because I asked for you specifically."

"Why not your wife, daughter or son?"

Obadiah smiled.

"Because I realized they aren't my legacy, you are. I made you who and what you are. You see, I thought my legacy was what I was doing with Stark Industries. Putting America back on top. I thought all that money and influence I had was real power… It's not. You have real power, Gwen. Power that can't be taken away from you. Instead of… what happened. I should have continued to guide you. We could have done great things together, you and I. Now that I've come to this arrangement with SHIELD, we still can."

"So, why would I keep coming to see you? You tried to have me killed."

"That was a poor decision on my part. I was under a lot of stress at the time. As to why, you should keep coming to see me. Well, you and I both know the reason for that."

Agent Hill & Nick Fury

Nick Fury stared at the security monitor with his one good eye. He had his arms crossed.

"Who is this kid really? Why is Stane so hellbent on having regular visitation with her?"

Maria looked down at her tablet.

"Gwendolyn Maxine Stacy, Born April 15, 2008. Mother, Helen Jacqueline Stacy, maiden name, Parker, deceased. Father, George Liam Stacy, Active NYPD Captain, heading up the Spider-Woman task force. Known associates, Peter Parker, Miles Morales, the one we cleared up the criminal record for, Jessica Jones, I'm sure you recognize that name and she is dating one Adam Thomas. Attends Midtown High, a private school Specializing in Science and Technology. Marks are exemplary. Testing puts her in 99.9th percentile IQ. Super Genius. Recently she joined a band called CrushBitches as their drummer. Works at Stark Industries as a Lead Researcher?"

Maria raised an eyebrow at that last fact. Nick looked at Maria.

"I know what her goddamned file says. I can read. Why is Stane so interested in her?"

Maria locked the tablet.

"He was her mentor at Stark Industries. Our investigations say they had a close relationship. We do not believe it was sexual in nature."

Nick shook his head.

"I fucking hope not. Because if that was the case, we just threw her in there with a predator."

Maria nodded.

Gwen & Obadiah

Gwen quickly figured out that Obadiah was blackmailing her to come back regularly.

"Fine. I'll do it. You can't make me listen to you though. You are not a good person."

Obadiah smiled and leaned forward.

"You know, I had you under surveillance the whole time you were working with Stark Industries. Some interesting conversations you had. I can understand why you think Ben Parker was a voice you should listen to. The man could write a class on manipulation."

Gwen's eyes narrowed.

"You don't get to say his name. He was a good man. He was a just man."

Obadiah leaned back and held up his hands.

"I just thought you'd want to know the truth about him, before you tossed your life away following his dream of a perfect world."

Gwen frowned.

"I know the truth. He lived a good life, tried to raise Peter and I right."

Obadiah smiled.

"That was the truth he wanted you to know. I had some digging done on him, he was filling your head with nonsense, I had to know who he was so I could neutralize him. Have you ever heard of OSS and the SSR?"

Gwen shook her head.

"You're sitting in one of their facilities, or rather what used to be one of their facilities. Ben Parker was recruited by them out of high school. They became the CIA, and eventually, SHIELD. He was a busy man in the sixties and seventies. Regime changes. Drug smuggling. Assassinations in Vietnam, Eastern Europe…"

Maria Hill & Nick Fury

Nick looked at Maria.

"How the hell did we not know this already?"

Maria blushed slightly.

"Sorry Sir, he was deceased by the time we began our investigation. We did not think he was pertinent."

"Well, he seems goddamned pertinent to Gwen Stacy. I want everything the SSR, OSS, CIA and SHIELD records have on Ben Parker. Non-redacted."

Nick shook his head and leaned down looking at the monitor again.

Gwen & Obadiah

Gwen was reeling from Obadiah's revelations about her Uncle Ben. He could be lying, but what was the pay off? She could verify some of it eventually. He knew she was no idiot. Gwen recovered quickly.

"Maybe it was those experiences that made him have a new outlook on life. Maybe he was trying to help me avoid those mistakes."

Obadiah spread his fingers out on the metal table.

"Maybe he was. But it doesn't change the fact he was a hypocrite. Gwen, you have the potential to change the world. Don't squander it following his hypocritical views and philosophy. I'll let you think about it. See you next week. Say, why don't you bring that chess board you used to bring with you when you visited Miles Morales."

Gwen stood up. She glared at Obadiah. How she had ever trusted the man she still did not understand. Gwen leaned down close.

"You are spitting on my uncle's name, but he is the only reason you're still alive. If I'd listened to you…"

Obadiah watched her leave. Gwen turned around and spoke.

"I guess I will see you next week. If they don't arrest me for building you that damned arc reactor."

Obadiah's eyes went wide. He looked like he wanted to say something more, but Gwen had already stormed out of the room.

Maria Hill & Nick Fury

Nick Fury's one good eye went wide at the bombshell that Gwen had just dropped. He looked at Maria. He was sounding more annoyed by the second.

"How the hell did we not know about that?"

"The specs did not show up on the Stark Industries servers. We had no way of knowing unless one of them told us."

He slapped the desk.

"So, we have a fifteen-year-old girl who knows how to build a portable arc reactor wandering around out in the world? Just there for any foreign power or terrorist organization to grab up?"

Maria nodded.

"That assessment would be correct, except, only the two of us, and the two of them seem to know about it."

Nick shook his head.

"You can bet your ass Stark knows about it and didn't tell us. Tell me we're tracking her movements."

"We have kept our distance from the girl. It was determined her father being NYPD would cause issues for us if it was discovered we were spying on her. Also, Tony Stark and she have a friendship. Also, she is our contact for Spider-Woman. She apparently builds all of Spider-Woman's gadgets for her. We didn't want to risk antagonizing him, or Spider-Woman. We thought interference with Gwen Stacy might endanger their participation in the Avengers initiative."

Nick frowned.

"It can't be helped. I want wire taps. Track her movements. And for the love of God do not use anything newer than twenty-twenty-one from Stark Industries. She may have designed them."

Maria nodded. Nick replayed the video and watched Gwen more closely this time.
