Chapter 2: Afterwards

Tails' POV

My.head.still.hurts. After going to sleep, it still hurts so much. I remember yesterday so clearly.

Flashback

I tried to escape but it was too late once Shadow said those two words. When we were all back at my house, I turned to him with fury in my eyes. I was so mad, why would he do that? I saw Shadow putting his emerald away as I stormed over to him. " Why would you do that ?.." I tried to stay calm but his silence was infuriating me. " I could've done something, why in the whole of Mobius did you have to take me away from him?!" I began to hit him in the chest, feeling so miserable. " Miles, he was already gone. There was no-" Shadow started but I interrupted him. "IT'S NOT FAIR..." My voice began to crack, " If Sonic were me in that situation..." My vision began blurry as tears began to fall from my eyes, " He would have been there for me once I sent the distress signal". Everyone began to look at me with sorrow in their eyes " He would've been there... I failed him... it's not fair". I pushed off of Shadow and just slipped to my knees, my legs suddenly feeling weak. Rouge was comforting Amy, even though she as well had started crying. Cream and Charmy were already asleep in the arms of their guardians. Knuckles was still unresponsive and was just mumbling to himself now; Blaze was holding Amy's hand with tears in her eyes. I felt a tap and looked up, It was Silver. He quietly kneeled next to me and opened his arms. I immediately accepted his offer and just leaned on him and started sobbing, hard. And then I think I fell asleep.

End of flashback

I slowly sat up and looked around to find out where I was. I was in my room, I was trying to figure out who could have carried me here but a name just crossed my mind. "Sonic" I whispered and cringed slightly at how hoarse my voice sounded. I suddenly remembered how pale and empty his eyes looked, how much pain he must have been. There was so much blood...red... and it was all over Sonic's blue fur.. making purple... so much. I hate purple. I began to feel my eyes stinging from the tears filling them, and blinked them away. I was trying so hard to not cry any more. I cried so hard yesterday I fell asleep and woke up with body pain and now I feel like crying again, and it's just morning.

I decided not to move at all since I didn't really feel like it. I just laid on my bed, staring at the ceiling, not really thinking but thinking at the same time. If Sonic were here, he would have come to check on me if I stayed in bed this long. The thought alone made my eyes water as I still don't want to believe that Sonic, my brother and best friend, was gone. I was seriously hoping that he would run through the door waving his pointer finger with a grin on his face, saying it would take way more than that to kill him... it never happened.

Tears were about to fall from my eyes, until I heard voices speaking in hushed tones outside my room. I became curious and stood up slowly, sluggishly making my way to my door. I put my ear to the door and was able to hear the voices more clearly. It was Amy and Shadow. They seemed to be arguing, I could tell because of the tones of their voices. "Rose, I'm being very serious. He was no longer there" I heard Shadow say. " I'm sorry but I refuse to believe that, how could you not find him?" I heard Amy reply, sounding frustrated. "You might have gone the wrong way or went to an entirely different area. Cause.. we all saw what happened, and as far as I'm concerned,... d-dead bodies don't move" Amy said sounding tired and voice cracking.

Sonic's body was no longer there. My eyes widened as my ears perked up.I had heard enough and opened my door and as I expected, they didn't say anything. " Good morning Tails" Amy said, trying her best to smile at me and Shadow just looked at me in concern. "How was your night?" She asked, her eyes having a pink tint. It was obvious she had been crying. I tried to smile as well, but I couldn't.

"Morning...I heard what you were talking about" I said quietly. Shadow just stepped forward and Amy's eyes widened. "Sorry you had to hear that, but don't worry, maybe Shadow just searched the wrong area" Shadow just narrowed his eyes at Amy after she said that, probably getting frustrated. "I did not, I even checked all the areas around that area. He.was.not.there" Shadow said, now glaring, the dark circles below his eyes making it obvious he hadn't slept much.

"It's no use in fighting or arguing over it guys." We all turned our heads to the voice and saw Rouge walking towards us. She wasn't smiling like she usually did, she had a neutral expression and also had dark circles under her eyes. She turned her eyes to me and said "How are you doing, Tails?" She asked with a small smile. I just looked at her and sighed. Her smile turned to a frown and she looked at me with sympathy.

I was getting tired of getting looked at that way, so I turned to go back upstairs to my room but someone held me by my arm. My eyes widened as it reminded me of when Shadow held my hand to stop me from getting to Sonic. I suddenly felt so low and tears started to build up in my eyes and I turned to see who it was. It was Amy and she was looking down. "What?" I asked, wanting her to let go. She raised her head and said "If you feel like you need to talk or you're alone on this please find me or someone to talk to, okay?" she smiled at the end. I just looked at her at first, then I forced a small smile and said "Ok".

??? POV

What is going on? I can't see anything? Everything hurts so much.

I forced my eyes opened and immediately regretted it as lights blinded my eyes. I blinked until I got used to the lights and sat up to look around my surroundings. I was in a cell, the only light coming from the door window. Welp, this is bad. But this makes no sense, last thing I remember is sending a distress signal and hitting some badniks and then black out.

And then I finally registered the pain I was feeling and winced, my ears folding back. They were bandages wrapped around my side and my left leg. My head was throbbing with slight pain and they was a band-aid on my cheek. And as far as I could see, my body had bandages wrapped around my legs and arms. The part that hurt the most was my wrapped side. I looked around the cell and finally saw a very familiar logo on the ceiling.

My eyes widened as my eyes formed into a thin line ' Egghead finally got me'. "Ok, this is bad. Very, very bad. What even happened?" Questions filled my head of how I got here. But I calmed down and smirked 'I'll find a way out of here and if I don't, my friends will come for me' I thought to myself, feeling confident in my friends, as I slowly got up from the bed I was on. Weird to think Egghead was kind enough to actually get me one. 'For now, I'll just memorize the paths and figure a way out from here' I thought, having determined look on my face and a mischievous feeling forming in me.
