"Wake up Dumbass!"
For Yorugami Setsuna, his day started the same way it always did; listening to an infamous TFS line on loop. Don't ask him why he chose that for his alarm, even though he wasn't too sure anymore.
"Wake up Dumbass!"
Part of him said it was kinda funny for Team Four Stars' take on Vegeta to be screaming every time he woke up.
Wake up Dumbass!"
Another part of him said that someone yelling at him to wake the fuck up was definitely something that could him moving in the morning.
"Wake up Dumbass!"
The other part of him just said it was him being stupid or trying to be funny.
"Wake up- [Click]
Grabbing his phone Setsuna turned off the alarm as he groaned, taking a minute to check the time before slowly pulling himself out of bed. He stretched and scratched the back of his head, before hitting up the toilet to take a leak and splashing some cold water on his face to wake himself up a bit. Pausing he stared at his reflection, taking the time to stare at the man in the mirror. Onyx hair, light blue eyes, and fair skin with a couple scars greet him. "Morning sunshine." His reflection mimed the words as he stepped away, doing a few more stretches as he looked for something in his little world cut off from the rest of the world.
Since 'moving' to Gosha last night, he'd been set up in one of the apartment complexes in the village. It wasn't much but it worked for him. Though if he was gonna be honest it would feel more 'homely' after Yamamoto had his people pick up a few things back at his place.
So until then he didn't really have anything to mess around with, which was unfortunate as he really wanted his punching bag back. Well at least he had his Go-Bag with his books in it.
"Pretty sure yamamoto's agents looked inside it though." Setsuna muttered with a shrug. "Probably checked to see if there was anything inside to worry about." He stated as he finished his stretches and cracked his knuckles before taking a breath, and threw a punch that hit air.
No resistance of the sort… really needed Yamamoto to grab that bag soon… Still shadow boxing wasn't the worst thing.
He alternated between punches and kicks as he started assaulting air as a frown crossed his face.
He continued working out for a good few minutes, working up a good sweat and only stopping when he heard a knock on the door.
Without a word he checked who it was, before raising an eyebrow and pulled the door open.
"Asagi-san."
"Good morning, Setsuna-san." She greeted with this formal tone. "I see you're already up."
"You caught me in the middle of my routine." He admitted before leaning against the doorframe. "So~" he began. "Do you normally visit random men's places or am I just special?
"As both the leader of the Taimanin, and your future Headmistress, I'd like to properly introduce you to Gosha." Asagi stated.
"You're offering me a tour?" Setsuna asked before seeming to think. ""I got time for a shower?" Asagi didn't say anything, just giving him a look as he shrugged. "I'm gonna to take a shower. In the meantime, you're free to come in and take a load off if you want." Setsuna glanced over his shoulder as he headed back inside. "He paused. "Or you can stay out there and wait if you want. Your choice."
Little Later
She hated the fact that her head was buzzing.
That was something that Asagi would admit only to herself as she walked on, Setsuna seemingly glancing around aimlessly as he took in his surroundings and seemingly ignoring her.
She was fine with how he was acting, actually helped her focus a bit, but at the end of the day it didn't change the fact that her head was getting a bit fuzzy.
'It's been over ten years…' She told herself. 'It's been ten years Asagi… you just need to hold out a little longer and then -'
"So." Setsuna pulled Asagi out of her thoughts as he looked down a street, taking notice of a few people as he and Asagi walkin in the opposite direction. "When do I start school?"
"One week from now." Asagi stated. "That should give you enough time to get settled in."
"Right." Setsuna muttered. "What can I do in the meantime?"
"That's up for you to decide." Was Asagi's simple response as the two walked on checking out a few places as they did with Asagi introducing Setsuna to a few people along the way.
"So…" Setsuna said after a while. "What did Yamamoto tell you about me?"
"He told me what I needed to know." Asagi stated. "When he acquired more information concerning your background, he'll share it with me."
"Ah, so that's how this is gonna be." Setsuna mused as the pair walked on. "Good. No offense, but I'd rather not have you know everything about me right off the bat." He admitted. "Feels a bit unfair you know."
"Hm~" Asagi didn't say anything as she walked on. "Your past isn't really going to be of much concern for us, at least, so long as you aren't secretly working against us and causing trouble."
"As I told you earlier, I'll be a good boy." Setsuna rolled his eyes. "So try not to worry, sensei." The tone he used was kind of mocking but had this disinterested tone to it.
"I'll hold you to that." Asagi stated as she pressed on, leading Setsuna somewhere else.
"So how old are you anyway?" Setsuna asked out of nowhere.
"That's a personal question now, isn't it?" Asagi gave him a smirk as she tilted her head in his direction.
"I know.." Setsuna fell quiet for a moment. "It's just… you look young." Setsuna admitted. "You look around my age, maybe a few years younger." He admitted before shrugging. "But what do I know? You could be a bit older and yet you're recognized as the leader of these Taimanin and you're the headmaster of the school." He admitted. "Paint me curious on how someone like that ends up the head honcho when they're so damn young looking."
"Well, I could just leave your curiosity unsated." Asagi told him before falling silent. "But I'll admit this… I took the position from Yamamoto-san himself."
"Yamamoto is a Taimanin?"
"No actually." Asagi stated as she looked at Setsuna. "Yamamoto-san functioned as the acting commander of the Taimanin after our previous leader died in the line of duty." She paused for a moment as she looked at Setsuna, that was just over thirty years."
"So around the time the proxy war between the UFS and the Chinese Union started."
"You're off by two years." Asagi stated. "Igawa Shuzen died two years before what became known as the Peninsula Conflict."
"Igawa?" Setsuna actually seemed to start paying attention to Asagi for a moment. "That's… your last name isn't it?"
"Yes, Shuzen was a member of my clan." Asagi confessed. "He became the clan leader after my father died and years later at the urging of the village elders he appealed to Yamamoto to become the Taimanin's leader."
"Is that so?" Setsuna muttered. "So the clan leaders just get together and pick someone to lead them?" He asked.
"Close, while each clan can urge someone within their ranks to take the position, at the end of the day Yamamoto has the final say. He judges the cadidency and chooses among them who will lead the Taimanin?"
"Is that because he's your supervisor?"
"No, it's because he's neutral." Asagi chose to explain. "Despite our best efforts the Clan Elders prefer a leader who benefits their particular clan, that's usually who they'll end up choosing as a candidate for the position. Yamamoto knows this, and he has the political skills and intuition to navigate that minefield."
"Is that why he chose you to succeed him?" Setsuna asked. "Some kind of political move?"
"That and because I carry the title of Strongest Taimanin." Asagi admitted before attempting to say more.
"Sensei?" Hearing a new voice the pair turned, their attention looking to a young woman with black hair and turquoise eyes walking in their direction. There were some bags under her arms, indicating that she had just left a supermarket of sorts. "Ah~ I was right, good morning
"Ah Tokiko-san." Asagi released a light smile as she looked at the younger woman. "Good morning." She returned the greeting. "I wasn't expecting to see you this early."
"It's easier to do food shopping at this hour." Tokiko stated as she smiled kindly. "I can get what I need before the crowds start to gather."
"I see." Asagi released another smile as Tokiko lowered the bag she had raised up. "How is Kotaro?"
"Fuuma-sama is well, although I do still need to prompt him from time to time."
"Why am I not surprised?" Asagi muttered. "Is he at least keeping up with his studies?"
. "Yes, sensei." Tokiko stated. "I have to admit it's easier getting him to study than do anything else." She admitted before turning to Setsuna with a curious look. Oh, I'm sorry, I don't believe we've met. I am Fuuma Tokiko, and you are?"
"Yorugami Setsuna." The man stated as he held out a hand before glancing at the bags and pulled it back. "Nice to meet you."
"A pleasure." Tokiko bowed her head in respect, and when she rose it was clear that she was thinking about something. "Yorugami…" She muttered the name. "I don't think I know that clan."
"That's because I don't have a clan." Tokiko looked on in confusion.
"Setsuna-san will be staying here on recommendation of Yamamoto-san." Asagi stated. "He will be training at the school and undergoing missions with the other Taimanin."
"Oh!" Tokiko's expression switched to one of understanding. "I see, I look forward to working with you."
"Likewise." Setsuna stated with a nod of his head. "Anyway, you're heading back home right, please, don't let us slow you down and cause whatever food you have to go bad.
"Thank you." Tokiko looked at Asagi before bowing. "Please excuse me Asagi-dono."
"Of course, farewell Tokiko-san." Tokiko rose again as she headed off, Setsuna just taking a minute to watch her leave before his eyes headed south. "What can you tell me about her?"
"Already have your interest peaked, do you?" Asagi chuckled slightly as she put a hand on her counterpart's shoulder and started walking off. "Well, she's legal, but I wouldn't bother going after her, she has a brother complex."
"Well ain't that a shame." Setsuna muttered as he started following after Asagi, but not before glancing back again. "A damn shame."
The Fuuma Estate was painfully quiet; really it was like all life had been hollowed out of it a long time ago. Place was pretty much dead… but it honestly didn't bother her too much.
Tokiko Fuuma had long gotten used to how quiet it was here.
After all it had been this way ever since she was a child; back when her father orchestrated a failed revolt.
She didn't really mind that the revolt failed, she didn't really mind that her clan had fallen out of favor with the village.
So long as she had 'him' she'd be fine.
"Fuuma-sama, I'm back."" Tokiko called out as she entered the living room, her attention quickly turning to the couch and the young man lounging around on it, a book in one hand as he lazily turned a page in it. Looking up from his book the blue haired, ember eyed young man acknowledged the woman as he got to his feet and left his book behind.
"Tokiko-chan." Her half-brother greeted her as he took one of the bags and helped her into the kitchen so they could put the groceries away. "I wasn't expecting you to be back so soon." He admitted. "Usually, you're gone for at least another half hour."
"I was able to find everything I needed sooner than I thought." She admitted. "So I hurried back as soon as I could."
"I see." Kotaro released this light, knowing smile as he continued helping his half-sister with the groceries. "It is a nice day, are you going to head back out for a bit?"
"Perhaps in a bit." Tokiko admitted. "For now I'd like to rest my legs."
"Of course, take your time." The two continued making small talk as they worked on refilling the fridge. Fuuma Kotaro and Fuuma Tokiko, the last two members of the Fuuma clan, or rather the last two associated with Gosha following their father's failed coup to take over the village. Since that day, it had always just been the two of them; brother and sister just getting by despite the stain their father had left on their family name. So long as they had each other, they were fine though.
"Oh, that's right." Tokiko paused as she seemed to remember something. "I ran into Sensei earlier." She stated. "She was with a young man walking through the village."
"And?"
He's… new apparently. He's staying here on recommendation of Yamamoto-dono and will join us both at school and in the field."
"Is that so?" Kotaro muttered as he seemed to think for a moment. "I've never heard of someone from outside being allowed in…" He muttered. "And you're saying he's recommended by Yamamoto-san himself?"
"Hai."
"That means when the other clans find out about him, he's going to have a lot of eyes on him." He mused. "We should keep an eye out too. He could become a good asset." Kotaro's single ember eye turned to something ethereal. A faceless young man, or perhaps a future yet set in stone. Whatever it was that he was looking at though was something that not even Tokiko could see.
It didn't matter though, whatever his eyes were focused on, at the end of the day she was going to support him in grabbing hold of what he saw.
