Neither one realizes just how connected she will become to the Bennets or just how much of a fight is heading Longborne's way. What if . . . Mrs. Gardiner's Lambton relations had been a little more well-to-do and what if she had stronger and longer ties to them and to Derbyshire? In this variation Elizabeth begins to spend summers with the Gardiners in Derbyshire at a fairly young age. As a result she develops her own ties to that part of the world and its people, including the Darcy's of Pemberley.
