Prologue
A dark ominous night shrouded the Mushroom Kingdom. A perfect night for stargazing on Rosalina's Cosmic Observatory, a night for Wario to perhaps binge on endless cloves of garlic, a night for…ghosts.
Yes, this was no ordinary night, for you see a particular resident professor named Edvin "E." Gadd who resided in a newly constructed Last Resort, had recently been hard at work for an important event.
"Ho ho ho ho ho ho, I have finally done it!" E. Gadd bounced up and down in excitement.
What had he accomplished? Why it was none other than the biggest convention held in the Kingdom, the MushroomCon, and the Last Resort was selected as the host.
"I took a strenuous six months of planning and preparing, but my hard work- "
E. Gadd then suddenly looked back at his spectral inhabitants of the hotel, numerous confused, tired, and annoyed Goobs, Hammers, and Oozers, who were unhappy about hearing E. Gadd sounding like he was taking all the credit.
"Oh, ho ho, I'm so sorry, I meant OUR hard work, has finally payed off." E. Gadd apologized, causing the ghost to change their expression to one of joy, "Yes yes, I think we can finally rest easy now that we are all ready for the convention tomorrow, so I think you all deserve the rest of the night off".
And from hearing that, the ghosts burst into cheers and wandered off into the night. Meanwhile, E. Gadd returned to his lab, which he had conveniently set up in a secret safehouse in the Master Suite, one that once belonged to the previous owner.
Although E. Gadd had completed the preparations for MushroonCon, he still forgot one final detail: an exhibit he was planning on showing off at the convention.
"Hmm…," he wondered as he entered another small compartment of the safehouse, "Which of my old gadgets and memorabilia should I display at my exhibit for all to marvel at?"
E. Gadd was browsing through an old collection of his, ranging from the old communication devices he used to communicate with an old associate of his. To a collection of 22 portraits of various ghostly entities that he had help capturing in a past adventure.
"Ah, good times" he remarked, before whistling a signal, alerting two Goobs to his location "I need to take this, that, and those down to the lobby post-hast."
The two Goobs smiled and took E. Gadd's old Game Boy Horror, a Pixelator camera and Monitor, three of his portraits, and a small, portable version of the ghost vault he used to hold several of the more dangerous ghosts that once haunted the Last Resort. E. Gadd meanwhile brought along new gadget he had been working on, as well as a very unique item: a priceless jeweled crown that once belonged to a powerful spirit, one that was… a king.
The three of them took the elevator back to the lobby, where they set up the equipment and memorabilia at the station E. Gadd has reserved for himself.
"Perfect," he remarked, "now I just hope Luigi isn't scared stiff at the old memories he and I made from yesteryears' past ohoho."
E. Gadd continued to chuckle. In addition to his old friend Luigi, he had invited a number of Luigi's friends, including his brother Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Rosalina, Daisy, and Wario to the convention as VIPs. E. Gadd really wanted this convention to be big, but little did he know something else was going on not too far away from his location.
Inside his portable ghost vault, a very annoyed ghost king was murmuring indistinguishable nonsense over a recent defeat.
"I still can't believe it," he said to himself, "My plan was foolproof, I would've had Luigi and his friends in that blasted portrait for good if it wasn't for his stubbornness to defeat me."
"Don't feel bad for yourself sweettums", a female voice called out to him "Besides you should put aside your grudge for that coward, he's just not worth it after what he's done to us."
The male ghost turned around, furious after overhearing her comment.
"Do you think I like being defeated?!" he questioned her, "Do you think I should 'put aside my grudge' on that scaredy cat? That blasted green plumber has defeated me, not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES! I had the perfect opportunity, I even entrusted you to get the job done quickly, but instead your bumbling, incompetent buffoons you call your staff just let him capture all of us one by one, it just makes me so…so SHWEERRPP-SHLOOOOP-WHOOORPP-SHLEEOOORG!"
"Well, at least you have one major benefit from losing, you get to spend quality time with me, your biggest fangirl." The female entity tried to flirt with him.
"Oh, that's it!" the king shouted, "When I find a way to escape from this crammed prison, I'll…I'll…"
Suddenly, the King looked out from the vault, and noticed E. Gadd laughing and hi-fiveing the Goobs who helped him, he then noticed E. Gadd was holding something very familiar to him, as well as numerous posters advertising the convention, with posters depicting Luigi and his friends.
"On second thought, that Professor just gave me an idea with that old antique of mine…" he smirked.
"How so?" the female figure said, obviously intrigued.
"Hellen Gravely, how would you like your freedom AND your hotel back?" he smiled evilly.
Hellen's eyes lit up in amazement "You mean you want my help?", she asked.
"Yes, in fact I might just have a plan on how we can escape, and not just you and me, I mean ALL the ghosts who have helped me past and present." He laughed maniacally.
Hellen then frowned at the king in annoyance.
"If this involves capturing that coward Luigi and his friends," Hellen said, before suddenly smiling, "I'd be absolutely delighted."
"Very well, first things first, once the professor leaves, we'll…"
And as the king's conversation with Hellen continue on through the night, a new plan began to develop. One that involved not only capturing Luigi and his friends, but also something more sinister…
Hey everyone, Emeraldblade95 here, and after almost five years of hiatus, I am finally back writing fanfiction again. I have started a new leaf and created a brand-new story that is sure to excite Luigi's Mansion Fans alike, both old and new. I will not go into detail what will be in this story, that way I won't spoil any surprises, but I will say, you will see some familiar faces very soon.
