Ch1
Waver carefully held the Egyptian tablet in his hands. This must be teacher's catalyst he thought as he examined the tablet with the various Egyptian hieroglyphs on it. He looked around to make sure no one was spying on him. He came to the library to check up on the Holy Grail War after a bad time in class where his teacher humiliated him. He clenched his fists in anger as he remembered how his teacher made fun of him in class. I will take this and prove to everyone that I can be a good mage despite my lineage he thought in his head as he looked up at the ceiling. I will compete in this Holy Grail War and win he thought as he smiled at the tablet in his hands.
He let out a sigh as he looked at the tablet, "I wish I knew what this said though. Egyptian magic was never my specialty," he sighed as he carefully put it back into its box. He wished he could ask someone who knew about Egyptian hieroglyphs to decipher what it meant but he could not risk it. No doubt his teacher would be furious at him stealing his catalyst and would go to hell and back to get it back. He put the box with the hieroglyph back into his bag and took a deep sigh. "I will show him; I will show them all," he said with a smile as he walked to the entrance and headed back to his dorm.
He walked as normally as possible trying to not arouse suspicion in anyone as he walked to his room. When he got to his room he was glad that no one was around. As soon as he doubled checked that no one was watching he placed the Egyptian tablet in his suitcase before collapsing onto his bed. "I should make preparations for this trip," he said to himself as he looked up at the ceiling. He had never traveled before and there was the possibility that he would not come back, "Its not like anyone is waiting for me here," he mumbled to himself as he decided to take a quick nap before his next class.
The few weeks felt like agony for Waver Velvet. As he thought, his teacher Kayneth Lord El Melloi Archibald was furious at the loss of his package. He never said it outright but his teacher was angrier in and out of class. Lord Kayneth would constantly berate and insult anyone who was unfortunate to get on his bad side. Every class and lecture with his teacher felt like terror as he felt his teacher was going to find out about him stealing his catalyst.
He avoided his teacher as much as possible as to avoid suspicion and kept his head low in and out of class. He told only a few close confidants about his plans and only after they swore to keep it a secret. In his free time, he quickly and quietly prepared for the Holy Grail War. He arranged to get a ticket through a close friend who agreed not to tell anyone and whenever he had spare time he went to the library to study Ancient Egypt. He read as many books as possible on its history, culture, magic, and people. He never checked them out for fear that his teacher would find out but he had a few friends who he trusted who were happy to help him out.
When is teacher Kayneth eventually left for Japan which caused him to breathe a sigh of relief, it was as if a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. Finally he is gone, I doubt he would ever have suspected that I stole his package he thought when he heard the news. He always double checked that the tablet was still in his possession every day and made sure no one but a select few trustworthy friends knew of his plans.
He enjoyed his last few days at his school before he left for Japan. The night before his flight he took one last look at the tablet before putting it into his carry-on bag. Its now or never, I will win this war he thought as he felt as if his stomach were filled with butterflies. "I can't get nervous now, if I don't do this I will just be another nobody," he said as he drank some water to calm his nerves. Though what if I get hurt? People die in wars after all a small voice of doubt in his head said. Waver shook his head and ignored the voice. "I will do all I can to win, I know that I will face strong enemies but I don't care. I will prove myself," he said as he took a deep breath. His body was still anxious and nervous but he forced himself to continue on .
That night he could hardly sleep due to the excitement and apprehension he felt inside of him. He knew he could possibly die and that he would be going up against powerful mages who had years of training and came from the top families in the mage world. "It's alright my servant will most likely be from the Age of the Gods. Ancient Egypt produced many famous mages and people in history. I can do this, I just need to calm myself," he said with a yawn as his mind slowly fell asleep.
He was nervous throughout the entire trip to Japan. He felt as if he was sick because he could not eat or drink anything and had to force himself to eat on the flight. He kept the box of his catalyst in his hand while on the airplane. His hands shook as he held the box, What am I even doing, I will get killed in Japan he thought in horror. No No I will make it, I just have to prove it with my wits he thought as he took a deep breath and slowly calmed himself. He took a few deep breaths as he rested himself inside of his seat.
When he arrived in Japan he immediately arrived at the place he chose to reside in. They were a Western family living in Japan and he charmed them into thinking that he was their grandson. They were nice people and he felt a little bad that he was using them but he figured he will just erase their memories of him when he leaves. Besides he also helped them around the house a bit, after all he had to play his part as the good grandson.
He got his stuff set up in his room and made sure that everything was secure and rested on his bed while he looked at the catalyst he took. "I wonder who I will summon," he said as he he carefully examined the tablet in his hand. The tablet felt fragile and fear it would break every time he held it.
He had various theories but he knew that whoever he summoned will be strong since Ancient Egypt contributed greatly to human and mage society. I wonder if I will get a caster, Egyptians were known for their magic after all he thought wondering how him and his servant will get along. He gulped at the thought of having a servant that would not recognize him as his master and kill him on the spot, I'll just have to be extra respectful, hopefully he or she accepts me as their master. After all in comparison to the mages of the Age of Gods Lord Kayneth is nothing he thought with a sigh as he got up and headed downstairs for dinner.
The days leading up to when he would summon his servant were like torture for him. Waver only went outside a few times to examine the area. He bought a map of the town and some other supplies for himself as he walked around town and explored the area looking for any strategic places.
On the night of the summoning he snuck out of the house he was staying at and headed to a place he had found and prepared the summoning circle. The night was cold and the flashlight her brought barely illuminated the area he was at. Normally he would have felt scared at doing this, but now he just felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness. He took a deep breath when he was done and took one last look at the catalyst before setting it in the middle of the circle. Here it goes he thought as he took a step back and held his hand out and began to chant the spell that would summon his servant.
The circle lit up as he started chanting and his heart raced as he carefully said each word of the spell when he finished there was a bright burst of light so strong that he was knocked to the ground. He sat up on his knees and rubbed his eyes and tried to look at the light that lit up the woods. Its so bright here he thought as he rubbed his eyes. The light was so bright he feared it would blind him. After he rubbed his eyes and the light slowly dissipated he saw the figure of his servant emerge from the circle.
He looked and saw a tall tanned male in the middle of the circle. He wore various things of gold all over his body and his muscular upper body was bare save for a white cape and a black garment on his arms. Waver gulped in fear at the power the man radiated. He is so strong, he is almost like the sun itself he thought as he felt the man's golden eyes meet his, they radiated a blazing energy that shook him to his core. For a minute Waver felt as if the man were about to blast him to pieces with his power and carefully held his hand with the command seals just in case
Suddenly the served spoke, "I am Ozymandias of the Rider Class," His servant roared in a loud proud voice. "King of Kings. Look upon on my works, ye mighty, and despair," he then pointed his Egyptian staff at him. "Young mage are you my master that hath called me to this period?" he asked, his voice sounded refined and a little old. His golden eyes blazed with power and authority.
Waver gulped, Ozymandias! Ramses the II the greatest Pharaoh of Egypt? He thought as he forced himself to speak. "Y-Yes it is I who summoned you," Waver said carefully, he was already kneeling and he honestly feared that he would die right there under the gaze of his servant. He is definitely strong really strong. He honestly felt as if he were about either be incinerated or killed by his servant's aura.
"Hm is that so, well mage you will work under me for this war I will not accept any objection," Ozymandias said as he picked up the tablet in his hand. "Nice choice of catalyst boy, this is tablet here is of one of the treaties I made."
Waver nodded, "I-I have heard of many of your great exploits in life."
Ozymandias smiled and laughed. Waver couldn't help but feel irritated by the laugh, it was loud and obnoxious but he wasn't going to say anything. "Of course you would boy. My exploits were known throughout the world during my reign. I am a pharaoh after all, non can measure up to the glory of a pharaoh." He said in a boastful tone. "Now boy you will be my personal scribe who will tell the world of my victory in this war, do not argue I have already decided it myself," he said in a stern tone. Waver only nodded as he was just glad that his servant decided not to kill him. "Now boy do you have a place of residence?"
"Um yeah, I am living with some non-mages," he said trying his best to sound polite and not offend Ozymandias.
"Hm I doubt it will be worthy for a pharaoh but take me there now and I will see for myself," Ozymandias ordered.
Waver nodded and forced himself to get up. His legs felt like they were made of jelly but he forced himself to walk and led Ozymandias to the house was staying at. Ozymandias followed him without saying a word and when they got to the house he looked at it up and down. His servant appeared to look at the various buildings and things of the world with interest as they walked.
"This is a smart choice mage no one will suspect that you are hiding here, but a great pharaoh such as myself cannot live here," Ozymandias said in a boastful tone. "But don't worry I always have a place to stay." With a snap of his fingers a gold circle appeared in above the house.
Waver's eyes widened as he saw the shape of a pyramid appear from the gold circle. Waver was at a loss of words as he watched it emerge and gently rest above the house. That is a pyramid, a real-life pyramid. The amount of magic needed to summon one of those is a lot he thought as he stared at the pyramid in awe. It was the size of one that he had seen in many textbooks and pictures and the aura it radiated was one of power and authority.
"Do not worry boy, no mage or human will be able to see it and I will soon cast various charms and spells around the area to protect us from spies. Show me to your quarters now," he ordered.
Waver nodded and led him into the house and to his room. Ozymandias looked around in surprise at the house and appeared to be interested or amused at the modern world. When Waver showed him to his room, Ozymandias took his staff and drew a hieroglyph on the wall.
A door suddenly appeared from where it was, " This will take you to my pyramid, do not worry boy, the non mages will not see it. Now come and see my glory."
Waver nodded and followed Ozymandias up the steps. When he reached the top of the staircase he was in awe at what he saw. "What is this place," he said as he looked around at the walls, they were filled with hieroglyphs and paintings of various scenes of Egyptian history. The place looked new yet radiated a powerful aura that made him shake in fear.
"This is my throne room," Ozymandias said as he led him to the front Ozymandias took a seat on the throne as a blue figure emerged from behind him.
Waver jumped back in surprise, "What is that thing," he asked as he looked around and saw more of the blue figures emerge.
"Sphinxes," Ozymandias said casually. "They are one of my many possessions and will help us with this war," he said as he stroked the chin of one of the sphinxes.
Waver took a deep breath and got up and noticed that one of the sphinxes came up to him. It was a small one, no larger than a big dog. Waver stared at the creature as it looked at him and rubbed his leg.
"He likes you," Ozymandias said. "Go ahead and pet it, he will not harm you."
Waver nodded and gently petted the sphinx causing it to purr. Waver smiled at the sphinx It sure is cute he thought as he felt the sphinx's soft fur.
"Now mage, I will fortify our position. Tomorrow you shall brief me on all the things I wish to know about this land," Ozymandias said in a tone that sounded more like an order. "As my servant and subject your job is to only follow my orders. I will win this Holy Grail and you will advice and serve me diligently do you understand?" He said in a stern tone, his eyes looking at him and Waver knew that his servant was not one to take back talk easily.
"Y-Yes Rider; I will do all that I can so that we can win," he said nervously avoiding his powerful gaze.
Rider smirked at him and laughed, "You will soon learn well how to properly serve a pharaoh as great as I now go and rest we have a war to win."
Waver nodded and bowed to his servant and said goodbye to the sphinx as he headed back to his room. When he got to his bed he fell down on it completely exhausted. Well that was an adventure in of itself he thought as he tried to process all that had happened to him he yawned as he felt himself go to sleep with the only though on his mind being the future war, a fight he believed he had a chance to win.
"Ozymandias, Ramses the II of Egypt," he sighed as he looked up at the ceiling and smiled. "I think I might actually have a chance of winning this," he thought as he noticed that the small sphinx who had greeted him in the pyramid was resting on the side of his bed. He smiled at the creature and scratched its back causing it to make a sound that he believed was it purring.
"He is arrogant but at least he is strong. He won't lose easily," He mumbled to himself. Besides my chances of survival might increase if he is alive he will protect me. Though to be honest with a servant as powerful as him I will have a bigger target on my back He didn't know much about the other servants but he knew that his servant was strong and would be able to carry him if need be.
