Chapter One: The Blue Haired Adventurer!
In the mystic yet modern combination town known as Trollberg, the wall surrounding the city was 50 meters high as the moon was as high into the sky as down in the city, the inhabitants in and out of said town were either already fast asleep or were just getting ready to.
For a certain blue haired adventurer, she was about to do the latter... after playing a certain board game with her mother.
"Nothing like a good game of Dragon Panic to end a day of potentially traumatic adventuring." The 17-year-old, almost one year away from being an adult, blue haired girl as she looked up to her mother, who was playing the dragon-based game with her. "Wouldn't you agree, Mum?"
"I see what you mean, Hilda." Johanna said to her daughter as she picked a pair of dice, which one of them was red and the other one was blue, off the game board. "After a day at the hardware store, I was just waiting for the chance to just sit down and either do this with you or just lay down and sleep."
After two whole hours of playing said game, the two began to get tired.
"Wow," Hilda said as she let out a yawn. "Time sure flies when you're having fun, doesn't it?"
"I bet it does." Johanna said before she also yawned. "Especially considering who it is you're having fun with. If you get what I mean." She stated with a teasing expression on her face and winking after saying that.
Hilda's eyes widened in surprise and her cheeks turned red as she knew exactly what her mother was talking about with that tone of voice and the rather smug expression...
The topic of romance.
"Ugh, seriously Mum!" Hilda complained as turned away from her mother, so she doesn't see the redness on her cheeks. "Right when I'm about to go to sleep?"
Johanna chuckled at her daughter's embarrassed expression as she brought her into a side hug.
"C'mon Hilda, I'm just trying to be supportive of my daughter. Be it something normal yet difficult to fully understand like falling in love with whoever you wish like a boy or girl or something mystical like the multitude of adventures you, your friends, and I sometimes have gone on." She spoke.
"I know Mum, but it's not you are being supportive of my adventures or something romantic like finding a boy or girl to date that concerns me. It's just..." Hilda suddenly grew quiet, which surprised her mother as her growing quiet was rare. Whatever was eating away at her psyche must've been deeper than simply not being good enough.
"Just what sweetie?" Johanna asked gently.
"It's just... my lifestyle isn't exactly appealing to boys or even girls for that matter." Hilda said as she remembered the time, she met Trevor and his group of jerks. "Remember the time we first moved here? Trevor and his friends injured Raven. I think they were scared of me when he became the Great Raven."
"If they or anyone else is scared of my daughter because of how she lives, then they don't know what they're on about." Her mother said as she looked Hilda straight into the eyes. "Besides, not everyone is scared of your lifestyle, just ask me or Frida and David or Alfur, Tontu, and Raven or any of the other mythical creatures or other humans you've befriended during our time here."
Hilda took a moment to think this over. She knew her mother was right with what she was saying. Just because she felt like she scares people with her mythical rendezvouses doesn't mean that everyone was scared of her specifically, just what she does on a day-to-day basis.
"Maybe as friends, but I'm not sure having anyone more than "just friends". That's my opinion though." Hilda admitted as her blush turned even more red, possibly resembling a tomato at this point.
"You'll find someone who loves you that way one day. I'm sure of it." Johanna smiled as she released her daughter from her embrace.
"In my dreams, perhaps." Hilda said with a chuckle as she rolled her eyes at the notion before she got up and began to head to the stairs. "Goodnight Mum."
"Goodnight Hilda, I hope you don't have David up there to impersonate you again for another Marra related incident." Her mother said in a joking manner.
Hearing that caused the blue-haired adventurer to bust out laughing before she managed to get a hold of herself. "Believe me, he's at his home. He's probably sleep by now anyway, trust me Mum, I learned my lesson from that."
"True." Johanna said as then noticed her daughter was walking up the stairs. "But do be sure to booby trap your room just in case a Marra comes in there."
"I'll be sure too Mum." Hilda said as she began to walk up the stairs.
Noticing this, Johanna quickly said one more thing as she noticed her daughter almost at the top of the stairs.
"Just remember Hilda, any boy or girl would be lucky to have in his or her arms, you just got to believe that you'll find that person! Dreams or otherwise!" She yelled up to her daughter, who heard her but smiled a bit as chose not to respond back as she closed the door to her room.
"Hello, Hilda." a new voice said.
Hilda was spooked as she looked at where that voice came from before she found a very, very, small elf on her desk. It was elf known as Alfur.
"Oh. Hi Alfur." Hilda greeted the tiny elf. "You scared me there for a minute."
"Sorry Hilda, that was not my intention." The elf apologized. "Going to sleep?"
"Yup." Hilda said as she approached her bed. "But I'm going to booby trap my room first just in case the Marra come to give me nightmares again like last time. You mind giving me a hand?" She offered.
"Of course." The elf said as he hopped over to the top of her dresser.
Going over to her dresser, she opened it and pulled out a multitude of leather belts, some of which her posterior got to know very well when she was younger. Remembering the pain, she went through because of them and because her mother wielded them, it caused her to shutter a bit.
"Everything okay, Hilda?" Alfur asked as he noticed her shuddering.
"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just funny that something is mundane as a belt can hold something as powerful as a Marra." Hilda said as she shook her head to get rid of the flashback-y feeling.
"How is it funny?" The tiny elf asked, not understanding how it is funny. "I don't get such humor."
"Think about it Alfur, something that disciplines naughty children and hold up pants is the Marra's only weakness." Hilda giggled. "I wonder if you can "discipline" the Marra so that they would learn not to give people nightmares in their dreams."
Hearing this caused Alfur to bust out laughing.
"T-That would be hilarious to see!" Alfur managed amidst his laughter as he now got why the joke was funny before picking up a belt to assist his friend in booby trapping her room. "Maybe give them a taste of their own medicine!"
"Ha Haha! Oh man, that'll be the day!" Hilda said, laughing along with him. "Teach those spiritual brats a lesson or two!"
With the little elf's help, it only took a few minutes, but Hilda's room (and bed) was Marra proof... as much as it could get given the fact there was only a limited supply of leather belts in the teen adventurer's dresser.
With their work done, Hilda stepped over one belt before ducking under another one. She repeated this process three more times before finally getting to her bed.
Getting underneath her covers, she looked over to Alfur and spoke. "Goodnight Alfur."
"Goodnight Hilda." Alfur said as he turned off the light.
"Goodnight Raven." Hilda said as she petted the bird who had the ability to transform into a giant version of itself.
"Goodnight Hilda." Raven said as he snuggled more into the teen's bed.
"Goodnight Tontu." She said, gestured to the mythic creature sleeping on the floor.
"Goodnight Hilda." The strange creature said as he began to rest his head.
"Goodnight Twig." She said as she petted the deer fox who was resting right next to her as she closed her eyes as she tried to fall asleep after a day of adventuring with Frida and David and two hours of playing Dragon Panic with her mother.
The deer fox whimpered a bit but didn't wake up. In fact, he even snuggled closer to her owner.
"Someone who loves me for who I am." Hilda muttered in her sleep. "Be it a boy or a girl, maybe my way life is something they would probably like about me, but me as a person, I doubt that. I'm undatable."
Although Hilda finally managed to fall asleep after a few minutes of trying to... only Alfur was left awake. He overheard Hilda insult herself saying that no boy or girl would like her way of life or her for that matter.
"Don't sell yourself short Hilda. I am sure that you will find your 'true love' one day. You just need to have patience." Alfur said as he turned over to his side. "Who knows, maybe you'll dream the perfect one and meet him in real life." He said as he also finally went to sleep, finally bringing silence to the whole house.
Little did the blue haired adventurer know, she was going to have a dream that she'll never forget...
