Hi everyone! Welcome to my first solo Steven universe fanfiction. This will be an alternate universe like what if lapis lazuli, in a twist of fate, ran into rose quartz and inspired lapis to grow beyond her tera forming purposes as a normal civilian, to never give up and protect the planet earth alongside her fellow crystal gems and takes care of rose's son, Steven, as a sister figure alongside amethyst,
here are the changes in this AU fanfiction
lapis never got trapped in a mirror for 6,000 years and thus doesn't have PTSD
lapis never got her gem broken and still has her water wings
lapis has met rose quartz and the crystal gems
lapis Is less willing to run and more willing to fight to protect her loved ones and Is more emotionally open and friendly to others than in the canon series
lapis has received training from the crystal gems and is more in control of her hydrokinesis powers, including her ability to make water clones, water creations, and controlling water temperature
lapis has her own personal twin gem weapons forged by bismuth
the diamonds use shapeshifting to vary their height (either human-sized or giant, perhaps further beyond)
the Diamond's powers are effective on humans (excluding destabilization from yellow Diamond)
garnet, pearl, and amethyst have a good relationship with lapis, and they live together and would often go on missions together
Steven and Connie are just friends (I'm not good at romance)
Greg teaches Steven homeschool.
Steven has been taken to the hospital before and has met dr maheswaran.
this may cover the entire series with lapis lazuli having a more active role, and things may turn out different,
and now, let's begin our story
It was a beautiful day in a small town in Delaware, Maryland, called beach city. It was a beautiful place. It looked like the perfect place for a vacation, quiet for the most part, but a great place to live,
on a sandy part of the beach, a young boy, dressed in a pink-red t-shirt with a star on the middle, had fluffy black hair, wore jeans and pink sandals were walking along the beach, towards a large mountain-like structure on the coast with a smile on his face he was turning around a corner when he felt something wet touch him from behind, the young boy's eye widened and spun around, but saw nothing, he then felt something wet again, and the boy turned towards the source, and again, saw nothing, he started walking again, when suddenly he felt a stream of water spray all over him,
"hehe, hahaha! No...!" the young boy started to giggle, enjoying the water "stop! Hahaha! there's water all over me...hahaha!"
There was another giggle as a slim but considerably tall female figure with cyan skin and cobalt blue chin-length hair with long bangs walked over from the corner. Her cyan-skinned hands waved open as her eyes remained closed as she giggled. She wore a backless blue halter crop top with an upward-facing navy triangle that is held together by a blue sash ribbon on the back of her shoulders. She also wore a flowing cobalt blue skirt that is calf length with a downward-facing navy triangle around her waist, and she wore no shoes.
"I sure got you there, steven!" giggled the girl, her eyes closed with happiness as she kept the water jet spraying on steven, almost as if she was controlling the water with her hands.
"hahaha! you sure did, lapis!" giggled the young boy, who was named steven universe, and then after a minute, the water spray stopped, and steven was drying himself off "how long were you behind there?"
"just long enough to welcome you back home," giggled lapis lazuli, the gem with the power of hydrokinesis, as she directed the water back where it was earlier "how was Funland?"
"It was fun as always!" smiled steven "how were you while I was gone?"
"I'm doing great!" smiled lapis as she and steven were walking around a corner on the sandy beach "the others were starting to get a little worried about you, though, especially pearl."
"she worries about me a lot of times," said Steven, already feeling a bit of pearl's overprotectiveness
"then again, that's how she is," chuckled lapis as she and steven walked to the front of the massive mountain slope over the edge of beach city to find the crystal temple,
on the front of the mountain slope stood a giant statue overlooking the scenery. in front of, It had four pairs of arms with four arms spread out while the other four converge around the entrance on the statue's navel. There stood a beach house, which was steven's home.
"I wonder how did they're last mission went?" asked steven as he walked towards the door. "will they need to leave again?"
"well, if they do, we could always play in the water!" smiled lapis, trying to cheer up steven, patting his head
"Thanks, lapis!" giggled steven as he allowed lapis to ruffle his hair.
steven then opened the door to the temple to find garnet, amethyst, and pearl there, waiting for steven "hi guys!"
"yo! ste man! lapis!" greeted amethyst with a wave
"steven!" called pearl, hugging rose quartz's son. "where have you been? we've been worried sick!"
"YOU were worried sick, garnet, lapis, and I knew he'd be fine," chuckled amethyst.
"yep! I was at Funland today!" said steven. "I had a lot of fun! especially since lapis saw me when I was coming back."
"aw, thanks, steven!" chuckled the blue gem master of hydrokinesis
"Well, thankfully, we won't have to deal with anything else for a while," chimed garnet. "so if there's anything you'd like to do with us, please say so."
"oh! I'd like to play with lapis for a little while!" said steven
"Sure, I'd love to!" smiled lapis. She usually enjoyed playing with steven in the water and also liked to use her hydrokinesis to have fun and entertain steven sometimes when she's not with her fellow crystal gems on missions.
"mind if I come with you two?" asked amethyst
"sure, amethyst!" said steven
"Yeah, we're always happy to have you!" said lapis "let's all go outside!"
Steven, lapis, and amethyst rushed outside, leaving pearl and garnet alone in the temple to discuss today's mission as they fought yet another corrupted gem. The three gems then went to the beach near the ocean.
"Okay, lapis," said Steven, "work your magic!"
"you got it steven!" chuckled lapis lazuli, and with but an open gesture, water began to rise from the nearby body of liquid, tiny twisters of water emerging, and they twirled around in mid-air around steven and amethyst.
"whoa..." awed steven as he saw the water twirl around above him.
lapis chuckled as she played a couple of tricks with the floating water. Then, she took some more water, and suddenly, it turned into water-like duplicates of steven and amethyst as they appeared in front of the trio.
"whoa! that's me!" chuckled steven, looking at his water-like reflection
"and there's me too!" said amethyst looking at her water clone
"and there's more where that came from!" said lapis "let's take a walk in the water!"
"you got it, lapis," said Steven, walking with lapis and amethyst towards the ocean floor,
but even when steven, amethyst, and lapis stepped into the vast body of water, none of their feet actually touched the water due to lapis using her abilities, allowing them to walk through the water as if it was solid ground, while they were walked lapis turned the tiny streams of water in the air into bubbles and floated them around them as they walked across the ocean floor
"whoa...I usually love this part!" said steven
"me too, steven," chuckled lapis as she continued to keep her friends afloat.
They walked across the water for a few minutes, steven looking at the buildings nearby beach city as they turned a corner in the water. This was indeed one of steven's favorite parts of hanging out with lapis. They can have fun with the water in more ways than one. As steven waved to some of the people at beach city, steven then thought of something.
"hey, lapis?" asked steven "is there any way we could go underwater for a few minutes?"
"I think we can, steven," nodded lapis, then she focused her powers "hold on."
lapis focused the water around them into a bubble-like shield. Lapis made sure the water wouldn't cover the inside so steven can still breathe.
"Alright, everyone, going down!" said lapis, submerging the water bubble they are in down
"whoa..." awed steven, admiring the underwater view.
"yep, this must be what it's like under the sea," wondered amethyst
"well, let's go explore it!" cheered steven.
"you got it steven!" smiled lapis as she controlled the bubble they were all in.
The aquatic gem led the bubble across the bottom of the ocean they were standing on as they saw fish, corals, and reefs across the underwater sands. They sank a little bit to get a good view, steven felt amazed and a little creeped out, but he trusted lapis would keep him and amethyst safe under the water. He then saw flocks of fish as lapis steered the giant bubble forward.
"whoa...there's fish everywhere!" said steven
"there sure are steven," said lapis, "but maybe in a few minutes, we should go back to the temple"
"oh...okay," sighed steven he was having a lot of fun too.
"Hey, how about a couple more minutes, and then we'll go back," said lapis, "and besides, we can always do it again another time! maybe even go flying while we're at it!"
"yeah, I'm up for that too!" cheered amethyst
"thank you, guys!" smiled steven, as lapis continued to move the bubble further underwater.
A few minutes later, as steven and amethyst watched in amazement, the sights of underwater, it was time to return to the temple for the day. Lapis then levitated the bubble. She, amethyst, and steven were in back to the surface as the blue gem levitated the bubble up, suddenly, lapis' gem glowed, and water spewed out of it and then turned into wings as they surfaced out of the water. The bubble then disapiated back into the ocean, save the water that's being used as a platform for amethyst and steven. As she was flying, lapis made sure the water-like platform would gently touch the sandy beach nearby the temple. Lapis then landed, made her wings disappear, and returned the water platform to the ocean, lapis could generate water, but over time she felt it would be better to return the water she uses back to where it belongs.
"ah, well, that was fun while it lasted!" said amethyst
"yeah, we'll have to do that again sometime!" said steven
"we will one day, steven," chuckled lapis, as she ruffled steven's hair.
"Thanks, lapis," giggled steven, "let's go inside!"
"wait for me!" chuckled amethyst as lapis soon followed the two back to the temple
lapis loved hanging out with steven as the two were like sister and brother to each other, alongside amethyst. Ever since rose quartz, steven's mother gave up her physical form to have him, lapis had been doing her best as a crystal gem to keep a promise rose quartz made to lapis, to look after her son, alongside the other crystal gems, out of all four crystal gems, lapis remained loyal to steven, not because he was rose quartz, but because he was her son, whenever the crystal gems went out for missions, lapis would stay behind at the temple to keep Steven company and look after him, is a promise lapis intends to keep...
Author's note I hope you have enjoyed this first part of a lapis lazuli centered AU of Steven Universe where she became a member of the crystal gems and looks after Steven alongside them. I hope to cover her adventures as a crystal gem in the future using her powerful hydrokinetic abilities as they battle the corrupted gems, homeworld, and the diamonds themselves for the fate of planet earth and the entire universe!
