Emma remembered feeling scared, and then feeling a sharp pain just above her collarbone. After that, everything faded to black. When she awoke, a tall man with dark brown hair was carrying her in his arms. Her vision was cloudy and her head hurt. Emma tensed up, not knowing if this was the reason she was scared.

Sam felt the woman in his arms start to regain consciousness as her body stiffened. "Ssshh, it's okay," he said in his most soothing voice, "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm taking you to a place where we can look at your wounds." He smiled down at her as she looked at him groggily. He could tell by the glazed-out look in her hazel eyes that she wasn't quite comprehending.

She'd lost a lot of blood from her wounds and was definitely in shock. Her caramel-colored hair was stained red above her left ear on the crown of her head. Her cream colored skin just below her jawline was bright crimson. She was lucky to be alive, Sam thought.

After Castiel had put Ketch in the trunk, and Sam showed them a picture of Sister Jo (aka Aanel), they were about to head out after Lucifer when Sam heard something. It was a cry of anguish, followed by a moan. It had to be from something nearby. He turned in the direction of the sound and saw a dark human-looking shape in the grass under a light across the street.

"Wait in the car, guys," he told Dean and Cas, "I'll be right back."

Cas tilted his head, puzzled, and then got in the backseat. Dean got in, started Baby up, and drummed his fingers nervously on the windowsill of the driver's door as he watched Sam cross the street and kneel beside something.

"What do you think he's up to, Cas?" Dean asked.

"I'm not sure, Dean." Castiel said in his gravelly voice. Dean took his gaze away from the angel in the rear view mirror and looked back out the window. Sam had stood up, and as he turned, Dean saw that he was holding a body in his arms.

"What the …. is that?" Dean growled.

"Not what, but who, Dean." Castiel said matter of factly from his backseat perch. Dean got out and opened the left passenger door as Sam came walking up. Dean took a closer look at the limp body in Sam's arom. It was quite clearly a woman with curves in all the right places. Her blue jeans hugged her not-so-tiny frame, and Dean's internal tape deck started playing…."I like big butts & I cannot lie…" His eyes moved up her body as he appreciated the rest of her curves under a silky blue top with long flowing poet sleeves. They almost looked like angel wings fluttering in the breeze under the moonlight. What brought him back to reality was the blood that was all over the girl's neck and head. That, and the kick in the shin Sam gave him. He gently laid the girl in Baby's backseat next to Castiel.

"What is wrong with you, dude?" Sam just shook his head and sighed as he rounded the car and jumped into the passenger seat. Only his brother would be checking out an unconscious girl in his arms. He turned around and looked at the angel in the backseat. Castiel had her head on his lap and was gently holding it.

"Cas, do you think you can help her?" Sam asked.

"I will have to assess her injuries further before I can say, Sam." Castiel said. "Perhaps we should get going? The longer we wait, the better chance Lucifer has of getting strong enough to be unstoppable." Dean grunted in acknowledgement, put Baby in drive and took off down the road in search of Sister Jo and Lucifer.

Castiel looked down at the woman's head resting in his lap. Her hair was caked with blood, and the open wound on her throat was still bleeding slowly. Apparently, the person who slit her throat hadn't been interested in killing her. It was superficial and anterior enough to not be a threat to her carotid artery. She appeared to be in shock from blood loss and Cas could feel that she was cold when he put his hand on her forehead. As he gently used his grace to clean her up and heal her physical wounds, he sensed something else. He decided against probing deeper without permission and instead put her into a deep sleep that would last until they could get back to bunker.

"She appears to be in shock." Castiel announced to Sam and Dean. "I've healed her physical wounds and put her into a restorative sleep."

"Great work, Cas." Sam said. "You followed the basic first aid rule for shock-keep them warm and still." Cas thought about this for a moment, then carefully and gently removed his trench coat, taking care not to disturb her. He spread it out over her sleeping form and noticed a pink carabiner attached to a slim wallet and the woman's belt loop. He disengaged it and started peering at it curiously.

"What I want to know is, what the hell happened to her? And how did you know she was there?" Dean asked Sammy. Sam looked over at his brother. "I heard a noise while I was looking at the iPad, and wanted to check it out before we left. I happened to look across the street and saw her there. Why? Are you jealous that you didn't get to rescue the damsel in distress?" Sam loved making fun of Dean's attitudes towards women.

"Shut up, Sammy." Dean said as he gripped the wheel tighter. "We don't even know who she is. For all we know, she could be a shapeshifter, Djinn, demon, or worse…" His voice trailed off for a moment as he drove. It would be their luck, he thought, finding some random girl that would be their undoing.

"I might be able to help ease your mind, Dean." Castiel said gruffly. Dean looked expectantly at him in the rearview mirror. "Yeah, how's that?"

"As I was covering her up with my trench coat to keep her warm, I found her wallet. She has a Minnesota driver's license with the name Emma Janeway and a government issued ID with her picture. In addition, she has national and state park passes, twenty dollars in cash, a few debit cards, and other cards I didn't recognize, including one for a Victoria's Secret." Dean snickered.

"Well, Sammy, demon or no, at least she has taste in undergarments."

"Really, Dean?" Sam sighed. He had to go there.. In the rear view mirror, he saw that Castiel's head had turned to the side in confusion, and Sam could see his child like curious mind spinning.

"Does this mean she has edible underwear? What purpose would edible underwear serve? And why would someone carry around a card that tells people this?" Sam and Dean both broke out laughing so hard they had trouble breathing for a few minutes. Castiel just blinked at them from the back seat.

"I don't understand, Dean." Castiel said, frustrated. Dean looked back at him in the mirror and then started another fit of laughing.

"Sammy, why don't you explain it to him? I'm sure you've had a few more encounters with that kind of thing." Dean said, still smirking. Sam glared at Dean.

"No way, you started it." Just as Dean opened his mouth to explain, a persistent beep beep started from Sam's cell phone. "I set up an alert on my phone." Sam pulled out his cell and glanced at the screen. "Looks like Sister Jo just used her credit card." Dean got the location and then thought for a moment.

"Sam, maybe we could have Donna run our Jane Doe's…eh, Emma's ID and name. If she's from Minnesota, she should be able to get a next of kin or something on her." Dean said. Sam shrugged.

"Yeah, it's worth a shot." Sam reached back and got the wallet from Castiel, then left a message for Donna with all the pertinent information. As they drove through the night, Dean couldn't wait to find who and what she really was.
