Blessing of the Spirits

Chapter 1 - Darkness' Blessing

So, I've started watching Digimon again. The new reboot is pretty great so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing more, but it got me thinking. I've been revisiting my past stories, and I kinda got inspired to rework some of the ideas from my original Digimon story, Digimon Hunter Davis. I will fully admit that it was a huge mess of ideas that I didn't have a real plan for. But it's been a few years, and I'm trying to rework some of the ideas that I had for my first stories. It's a slow-going process, but I feel more confident in this story. This is definitely going to be different from my original and the actual show, but I don't own Digimon and that's probably for the best.

Some real quick context, I'm playing with the timeline a bit. In this, "His Master's Voice" (the one where Kari got taken to the Dark Ocean) and "Guardian Angel" (Andromon's episode) takes place a little before "Family Picnic" (Mimi's first episode). The story starts right after Family Picnic in my timeline.

Chapter Start

It was a sunny evening in Odaiba, the perfect weather for Golden Week. Kids were running around, adults were able to destress from their taxing jobs, and overall, it was a time to just enjoy life. However, one pre-teen wasn't looking too happy. He was a burgundy haired (that was really spiky) boy, dressed in a short-sleeved vest, blue long-sleeved shirt and brown shorts. A small blue creature laid in his hair sleeping, almost unnoticeable, rubbing its head against the goggles resting on the boy's head. Currently, he was sitting on a bench by a canal, looking at a device in his hands, alone.

"What's got you so down, Davis?" A female asked.

"Mimi! When did you get here?" Davis yelled waving his arms around. His movement awoke the sleeping creature on his head. He turned to face the person who startled her. She was an older girl with dyed pink hair dressed in a blue and red T-shirt and a white skirt. Around her shoulder was a large white purse-like bag.

"Davis, keep it down. Some of us are trying to sleep," he complained, rubbing one of its eyes.

"Sorry, DemiVeemon. It's my fault he woke you up. Davis was pretty deep in thought," Mimi sang.

"Davis was thinking!" DemiVeemon shouted suddenly. He grabbed Davis' goggles and leaned over to look at his partner's eyes. "Who are you and what have you done with Davis?"

"DemiVeemon, I do actually think things through every once and awhile," Davis rebuked lightly, flicking the Digimon's head.

"Are you certain? You don't look like your normal self," DemiVeemon asked gently.

"I guess… I guess I just feel a little useless with everything going on," Davis said slumping forward. DemiVeemon held tight onto the goggles as this happened.

"Why? It seemed like everything is under control as it ever is with the Digital World," Mimi probed.

"The older Digidestined have kept you up to date on everything, right?" He asked, getting a nod from his senior. "A few days ago, when Kari got separated from the group, I didn't do anything. Sure, I freed a few Digimon, but besides that, I was just there. Then, she got pulled into some weird place, and I couldn't do anything."

"That's not everything that's bothering you, is there? I know you have a crush on Kari, but I don't think you were the type of person who felt like he needed to play knight," Mimi spoke.

"What! Is that how I really come off?" Davis asked, indignantly.

"Not from what I've seen, but you do come off a little arrogant. Granted, I don't have much to go on beside what the others have said. I just wanted to know because I doubt it's just because you couldn't impress your crush," Mimi softly said, sitting next to Davis.

"I just feel like we can be doing so much more!" Davis said, pulling at his hair. "We're up against someone who controls a huge amount of the Digital World, and we can only free a small area at a time. Every time we clear an area out, he just takes over two more areas. If something doesn't happen soon, we're not going to be able to do anything."

"I know how you feel," Mimi said, leaning backward on the bench. Davis turned his head at his senior. "Back when I first went into the Digital World, we really couldn't do a lot. We were more focused on doing what little we could do and just surviving. And truthfully speaking, we were fighting the highest level of Digimon, the Mega level which is at least a hundred times stronger than a Champion level Digimon which is where I would say all the Armor Digimon are at. It makes sense that the others aren't really taking it as seriously as they should."

"Wait, there's levels higher than Champion, and they are that much stronger than our Digimon!" Davis exclaimed. DemiVeemon jumped off Davis' head and started to sniff around Mimi's bag.

"It is surprising, but only Tai and Matt were able to get to that level. I was only able to get Palmon to the Ultimate with my Crest of Sincerity, so when it came to the stronger Digimon, I couldn't do anything. It's a terrible feeling knowing that you want to help, but you really can't," Mimi said, patting Davis on the shoulder.

"How do you handle it?" He asked.

"I handle it by not hiding what I'm feeling and being there for my friends, but my way doesn't have to be what you do. Whether by doing more or speaking up, it won't get better if you don't do anything," Mimi reassured.

"Thanks, Mimi!" Davis said, a wide smile appearing on his face. "I feel a lot better."

"Great, now how about we get something to eat? Our picnic was interrupted, and Palmon and I didn't get to eat as much as we would have liked," Mimi suggested.

"Alright. Let's go to my place!" Davis said, picking up DemiVeemon and placing him on his head.

"Will that be alright with your parents?" Mimi asked.

"It'll be fine. My parents are celebrating their anniversary at some resort, and Jun is staying with some friends for a few days. They're not going to be home until late tonight, so it was just going to be me and DemiVeemon," Davis said casually. He got up and started walking home.

"Yeah, and Davis makes the best food. It's much better than the stuff Yolei brings us," the little Digimon cheered.

"Then let's go. I'm excited to hear what you'll make us," Mimi said, skipping along behind Davis.

'It'll be perfect.' A raspy voice whispered to Mimi.

"Did you say something?" Mimi asked.

"Maybe. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to make, and I sometimes mumble when I'm in deep thought," Davis said, turning to face the older girl. "Did you hear something?"

"I thought I heard someone say, 'It'll be perfect,'" Mimi said, placing a hand on her cheek. "I guess I'm just hearing things."

'No you are not~,' The voice sang. A portal opened in front of Mimi and shadowy hands grabbed Mimi. They started pulling Mimi into the portal.

"Hey, let go of me," Mimi shouted, dropping her bag as she struggled against the arms.

"Get off her," Davis shouted, running up to Mimi and grabbing one of the shadow arms. He began to pull backwards, successfully slowing down Mimi's attacker.

"We're not letting our friend go without a fight," DemiVeemon squeaked as he bit down on an arm.

"Tanemon, help me!" From Mimi's bag, a short onion-like Digimon jumped out.

"I'm coming, Mimi!" She shouted before she began to glow. "Tanemon digivolve to… Palmon!" In Tanemon's place, a Mandrake-like Digimon with a pink flower with yellow stamens adorning her head. "Poison Ivy!" Vines extended from her leaf-like hands and wrapped around Mimi and Davis. She began to pull backwards, but a few more arms gripped Mimi and Davis, pulling them all forward.

"That's a good idea. Davis," DemiVeemon said, jumping on one of the arms.

"Right," Davis said, pulling out his Digivice. It begins to glow, but another arm knocks it out of his hands. "Hey!"

"You leave my partner alone!" DemiVeemon shouted as it jumped towards the attacking arm. The same arm slaps DemiVeemon out of the air towards the discarded Digivice.

"DemiVeemon!" Davis and Mimi shouted. The tiny dragon stumbled to his feet before tripping over the Digivice, knocked out.

"Davis, you have to let go," Mimi said as she was pulled almost through the portal.

"No way. I'd hate myself if I let you go through without a fight!" Davis shouted, pulling one of the arms of him.

"But you can get help," Mimi pleaded as her arms were pulled through.

"Please, Davis. We don't know what is attacking us," Palmon pleaded.

"I'm not abandoning you, Mimi," Davis shouted. It was at this moment that all the arms gave one giant yank, pulling Mimi, Davis and Palmon through the portal.

"AHHH!" The three yelled before silence. The portal flickered, before it collapsed in on itself.

"Did someone get the number on the Monochromon that hit me?" DemiVeemon muttered, sitting up and looking around. "Davis? Mimi? Where are you?" DemiVeemon asked, hugging Davis' Digivice close, before waddling under the bench.

"AHHH!" Mimi, Davis and Palmon yelled, as they landed in a heap. Davis was able to see that they were on a cliff with a wrecked lighthouse overlooking a turbulent ocean. Everything seemed to be in black and white.

"Is everyone alright?" Davis asked as he untangled himself from the two.

"I'm fine," Mimi said, as she picked herself up. "But I think we might be in trouble."

"Tie her up. We need her ready to present her to our master," a dark figure said.

"Hey, let me go!" Mimi yelled as she was pulled away from Davis and Palmon. Davis and Palmon couldn't respond as they were thrown back away from her.

"Mimi!" Palmon yelled.

"Palmon," Mimi screamed as her Digivice glowed.

"Palmon Digivolve to… Togemon!" In a burst of light, Palmon transformed into a giant cactus wearing boxing gloves. "Step away from Mimi," Togemon said as it swatted away several of the attacking shadows. The shadows retreated from Davis and Mimi allowing them the chance to regroup.

"What do you want from us?" Davis shouted as they stood under Togemon's legs.

"We want nothing from you, boy. The girl is the one we want. Our master, Dragomon, is most displeased with us, so he asked us to get a sacrifice to prove our loyalty," the shadow said, prompting Davis to stand in front of Mimi. The shadows all began circling Togemon.

"Why me?" Mimi asked, peeking out from behind Davis.

"You hold great power in you, power our master wants. And what our master wants, he GETS!" The spokes-shadow spoke before they all began swarming Togemon.

"Get back!" Togemon shouted as she tried to keep the shadows from getting to Mimi, but there were too many of them. A few get through and approach Davis and Mimi.

"Shove off," Davis yelled, rushing the shadow. His efforts were futile, as the shadows easily overpower him and throw him towards the edge of the cliff.

"Stay away from me," Mimi screeches as she is pulled from Togemon.

"Mimi!" Davis and Togemon shout. Davis is about to run back in, but the cliff under his feet suddenly breaks as a massive figure appears out of the ocean.

"AHH!" Davis yelled as he fell to the ocean below.

"Davis!" Mimi yelled, as she struggled to break free of her captors.

"WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG!" The figure screams. All the fighting stopped as the figure revealed itself to be a giant humanoid dragon with tentacles for legs and arms.

"Master Dragomon!" The shadows all yelled, before the ones who were not fighting Togemon or holding Mimi bowed down.

"I thought he was just a myth!" Togemon squeaked. "An Ultimate Level Digimon. Dragomon is an evolved computer virus that would cause ships to sink while traveling. His Thousand Whips attack is said to be able to be able to pull anyone under the sea he inhabits."

"IT'S GOOD TO SEE THAT MY LEGEND STILL EXISTS IN THE DIGITAL WORLD." Dragomon began, looking at Mimi. "YOU HAVE DONE WELL, MY SUBJECTS. HER POWER WILL BE ENOUGH FOR ME TO BE EVEN STRONGER."

"There's no way I would help you! You just killed my friend. Besides, I gave up my powers years ago to protect the Digital World! So just let us go home," Mimi screamed at the giant Digimon.

"HAHAHAHA! DO YOU TAKE ME FOR A FOOL?" Dragomon roared. "WHOEVER TOLD YOU THAT YOUR POWER IS GONE, LIED. BESIDES WHO TOLD SAYS YOU NEED TO HELP ME WILLINGLY!" Dragomon brought up a large tentacle before bringing it down towards Mimi.

"Mimi!" Togemon shouted, throwing the remaining shadows off her before running to shield Mimi. The tentacle slammed down on Togemon with great force, but she was able to hold it above her head, if only barely. The shockwave from the attack sent the remaining shadows flying off the cliff.

"Togemon, don't worry about me! You have to see if you can save Davis!" Mimi shouted.

"I can't do that to you! You'd be defenseless against Dragomon!" Togemon shouted as she struggled to hold the tentacle off. It lifted up again before slamming back onto Togemon.

"But Dragomon is an Ultimate Level! I don't have my Crest anymore, so I can't help you be Lillymon anymore, but you can at least save Davis," Mimi reasoned. The tentacle repeated her action.

"It wouldn't do anything. Once Dragomon is done with you, he would go after me and Davis, and he lives in the ocean. Even if I was able to find Davis, we wouldn't be able to escape him," Togemon countered. Dragomon began chuckling as it slammed its tentacle on Togemon again. Togemon fell to one knee. "Besides, you don't need your crest to make me Digivolve. Whenever I became Lillymon, it always felt like it came from you, not some jewelry. The power has always existed inside you!" The next attack sent Togemon on her four limbs.

"Togemon!" Mimi yelled as she rushed to her Digimon.

"Don't worry about me. Focus on yourself," Togemon said.

"HOW AMUSING! I HAVEN'T BEEN THIS AMUSED IN CENTURIES! I WONDER IF THE DIGITAL WORLD IS AS AMUSING AS YOU ARE. I SUPPOSE I WILL FIND OUT AFTER I DESTROY YOUR DIGIMON AND ABSORB YOUR POWER!" Dragomon shouted. It went to slam its tentacle a final time on Togemon.

"SHUT UP!" Mimi screamed, gripping her Digivice. Her sudden burst of courage was accompanied by a burst of digital energy deflecting the attack. "I don't know where you're getting off trying to steal power, but I don't care. Togemon and I are going to defeat you, we're going to find Davis, and we're going to go home!" Mimi could be seen standing in front of Togemon, a green aura flowing around her with her Digivice glowing.

At the same time, a beam of purple energy shot out of the ocean, drawing everyone's attention to it. A figure could be seen floating in it before it turned its head towards Mimi. The energy was directed from the figure to Mimi far too fast for her to respond. She held her hand in front of her to shield herself and closed her eyes, as the energy engulfed Mimi and Togemon.

"This doesn't hurt," Mimi said, opening her eyes. She is astonished to see her Digivice changing shape to a primarily black with forest green accents that fit comfortably in the palm of her hand. She looks at the top and sees that there is a vent located there. She looks at her hands and can clearly see the energy flowing around her. "This is new," she mumbled, before she held her head as knowledge flew into it.

"Mimi, you can do it," Togemon said, stepping in front of Mimi.

"I hope this works," Mimi said, closing her eyes. The energy around her body focused into her hand. "DNA Full Charge!" Mimi shouted, slamming her palm into the vent on top. The words Perfect Evolution could be seen flashing on the screen. She then thrusts the Digivice towards Togemon, sending a stream of energy towards her which engulfed her.

"Togemon Digivolve to… Lillymon!" Togemon yelled as she transformed into Lillymon.

"We did it," Mimi shouted, jumping up and down with Lillymon. Their celebration is cut short when the figure appears in front of her, deflecting a tentacle. Up close, Mimi was able to see that the figure was a tall humanoid Digimon covered in a set of black lion-themed armor. In his hands was a spear and shield. The shield was shaped similar to a black Sphinx's head.

"Stay focused. The fight isn't over now," he said, readying his spear, as Dragomon appeared again.

"Right. Flower Cannon!" Lillymon shouted, thrusting her arms forward. A muzzle formed from the petals on her wrists, and several blasts of energy blasted from it. The energy blasts impacted Dragomon causing it to stumble back.

"Who are you?" Mimi asked.

"There's no time to explain. I'll answer any questions you have after Dragomon is defeated," the warrior said, crossing his arms around his chest. "Endlich Meteor!" Blasts of golden energy fired from the lion's head on his chest towards Dragomon.

"THOUSAND WHIPS!" Dragomon yelled. Its arms split into hundreds of tentacles that blocked all the attacks from the two Digimon. It then sent its tentacles towards the attacking Digimon, forcing them to dodge or deflect the attacks.

"Tie up his tentacles, Lillymon," Mimi called out.

"Good idea," Lillymon said, before she began to fly around and through the tentacles. A wreath of flowers spawned behind her, tying them up and stopping.

"GRAH! WHAT ARE THESE THINGS!" Dragomon yelled, as its tentacles began to burn.

"Your Flower Wreath counters Digital Viruses. Dragomon is a Digital Virus. Keep using it," Mimi said.

"KEEP AWAY!" Dragomon yelled fearfully as more Flower Wreaths appeared around its tentacles. It began to flail its limbs wildly at Lillymon and the black Digimon. Mimi ducked behind the ruined lighthouse to avoid the attacks.

"I'll keep it distracted!" The armored Digimon yelled as it sliced and deflected a few tentacles. "We just need to weaken it. If we can weaken him enough, I have a move that can take him out! Ewig Schalf!" He screamed as a black aura surrounded his spear and he thrust it towards the attacking limbs. From the spear, dark energy blasted forward piercing the wall of tentacles, causing Dragomon to let out a pain shriek.

"ENOUGH!" Dragomon yelled, pulling back its limbs. It reared a massive hand back, and a glowing trident formed in it. "I TIRE OF THIS CHARADE! FORBIDDEN TRIDENT!" With his piece said, he flung the trident towards the two Digimon.

"Get to cover!" The warrior Digimon yelled, bringing the shield in front of the trident. Lillymon moved behind the lighthouse wreckage and covered Mimi. "Shield of Atonement!" The mouth of the shield opened up before biting down on the tip of the tridents. The trident began to push the warrior backwards, but the glow of the trident was slowly being siphoned through the shield and into the spear.

"He's absorbing the attack!" Mimi exclaimed. As more of the attack was absorbed, the unknown Digimon suddenly grabbed the trident and clenched his fist tightly around it. The trident broke into data particles that were absorbed into the spear.

"HOW? I PUT ALL MY POWER INTO THAT ATTACK! WHY ARE YOU ABLE TO DESTROY IT?" Dragomon yelled, taking a step back.

"Because I fight to protect using the darkness, your attacks are worthless against me. I am Loweemon, the Legendary Warrior of Darkness. Let me show you what I mean. Spear of Judgement!" Loweemon yelled before throwing his spear at Dragomon. As it flew, a black and gold aura formed around it. Dragomon tried to form a shield of tentacles, but the spear effortlessly sailed through it before it pierced through Dragomon. Dragomon screamed in pain before a ring of code formed around it.

Loweemon pulled out a smart phone like device with a lens placed on the upper back and a purple symbol printed on the back. "Be purified by the darkness! Fractal Code Digitize!" Loweemon yelled, sliding the lens over the code. The code began to fly into the device, and Dragomon was turned into an egg. The egg floated in place before flying into the air.

"It's over," Loweemon said, before dropping on one knee.

"Loweemon!" Mimi and Lillymon shouted, rushing over to him.

"Are you alright?" Mimi asked, resting a hand on his shoulder.

"I'm just tired, so I need to rest for a bit. Promise you won't freak out," Loweemon prompted. Before Mimi or Lillymon could respond, the same code that was around Dragomon surrounded Loweemon. When the code disappeared, Davis was in Loweemon's place.

"Davis!" The two girls yelled.

"How are you able to be a Digimon? Scratch that, what did you do to Dragomon?" Mimi demanded.

"I'll explain as best I can later. First, let's get out of here. DemiVeemon has to be so worried right now," Davis said, struggling to his feet. As he stumbled forward, Mimi caught him before throwing one of his arms around her shoulders.

"One problem with that," Lillymon said from up in the sky. "I can't see anything but the beach, ocean and cliffs. I don't think there's a TV that we can use to get out."

"Darn," Davis said, before a beeping sound started. The sound seemed to be coming from both the device in Davis' hand and Mimi's pocket.

"Why's my D-Terminal beeping?" Mimi asked. When she pulled it out, she was surprised to see that it had changed to be the same device as Davis' only there was no symbol on the back and it had a lavender coloring. "It's changed to be the same as yours." Before they could speak further, the screens were brought to life, as a strange symbol appeared on the both of their screens.

"Digidestined, it is time for the Legendary Warriors to return to defend the Digital World," a female's voice said through their devices. "These are your D-Coders. Use them well." As the voice stopped speaking, the code from Dragomon flew between Davis' and Mimi's D-Coders. On the screens, an app appeared that said Digital Gate.

"I think we can use this to go home," Davis said, pointing at the Digital Gate app.

"Then you might want to press it right now because those strange creatures are coming back," Lillymon said, pointing a Flower Cannon at the shadows that were climbing out of the ocean towards them.

"Here goes nothing!" Davis said, pressing the app. The space in front of Davis, Mimi, and Lillymon ripped open, showing the bench with DemiVeemon holding Davis' Digivice under it.

"It worked!" Mimi shouted. "Lillymon, help me carry Davis through."

"On it," Lillymon said, providing support. Together, the three jumped through the portal.

XXxx BotS xxXX

"I hope Davis and the others are ok," DemiVeemon said, squeezing his partner's Digivice. He peeked out from under the bench to see if anyone was around, but he couldn't see anything but the setting sun. He was shocked when a portal appeared in front of the bench. He was even more shocked when Davis, Mimi and a Digimon he didn't recognize jumped through it. "Davis! You're okay!" DemiVeemon shouted, jumping towards his partner.

"DemiVeemon! Boy am I glad to see you. You would not believe what went down," Davis said, catching the little Digimon. "Hey, you got my Digivice!" Davis said, pocketing the device.

"I'm so glad that's over," Lillymon said, before she glowed. Her form began to shrink, before she was reverted to Tanemon. "Mimi, can we get something to eat? I'm really tired." Tanemon said.

"Sure, Tanemon," Mimi said, picking up her Digimon. "Is the offer to eat at your place still open?"

"You betcha. Besides, I don't think anyone nearby will be open right now," Davis said, walking down the road, placing DemiVeemon on his head. A little way down, Davis turned to Mimi. "I've been meaning to ask, but why do you have Tanemon with you? Shouldn't she be guarding her area of the Digital World." Mimi fidgeted slightly. Her grip tightening around Tanemon. "It's alright if you don't want to say right now." Davis said, gently.

"Thanks, Davis," Mimi said, loosening her grip on Tanemon. The rest of the walk was followed in silence, before they finally reached Davis' apartment. It was a decent sized apartment that had various items laid all over the furniture. The only area of the house that was really clean was the kitchen and the table.

"Sorry about the mess. I really wasn't expecting anyone," Davis said, scratching the back of his head. DemiVeemon took this opportunity to jump off his partner's head onto the counter.

"It's alright. You should see my house. We seem to always have to clean up the house once a week," Mimi said, giggling.

"Now, let's see what we have to eat," Davis says, as he begins rummaging around his freezer and fridge. "This will do. Hey, Mimi, how do you feel about dumplings?" Davis said, pulling a bag of frozen dumplings out.

"I love dumplings. How are you making them?" Mimi asked, taking a seat at the clean table and placing Tanemon next to her.

"I'm going to Deep Fry them. DemiVeemon, can you plug the Deep Fryer in and see if we still have some rice in the rice cooker?" Davis said, setting the bag on the counter.

"On it!" DemiVeemon said. He plugged in a large fryer from the counter, before he waddled over to the rice cooker. He lifted the lid and a bunch of steam spilled out of it. "We still have half a pot of rice."

"Perfect. Now, we don't have to wait for the rice to cook," Davis said.

"I've never had deep fried dumplings. What kind of dumplings are you making?" Mimi asked.

"Pork Dumpling with leeks, sweet potato noodles, and some vegetables stuffed in it. I made them myself. This isn't going to be a huge meal, but I didn't prepare anything ahead of time," Davis said.

"Sounds great. Did you make them yourself?" Mimi said.

"Yep. These make for a great snack because you can make a huge amount of them at once for later," Davis said, before he tested the temperature of the deep fryer. Finding it satisfying, he placed about two dozen dumplings into the large fryer before closing the lid. "Now we just have to wait a few minutes."

"Great. Can you explain what happened? How did you become that super strong Digimon?" Tanemon asked.

"Wait, Davis became a Digimon! How?" DemiVeemon asked.

"Yeah, it was a huge surprise. We were fighting this huge Digimon, Dragomon, when suddenly this Digimon burst from the ocean and helped us to destroy Dragomon. It was a huge surprise when he suddenly turned into Davis," Mimi said.

"Wow. Tell me how!" DemiVeemon shouted, hopping up and down.

"Alright. Just keep in mind that we have to keep in mind that we have food cooking," Davis said, chuckling. "It started after Dragomon knocked me off the cliff. His attack almost knocked me out. But while I was floating in the ocean, something bumped into me."

XXxx BotS xxXX

"I have to get back up. I might not be able to do much, but at least Mimi wouldn't be alone," Davis thought to himself as he floated deep into the ocean. "I can't move. Dammit, move body move."

"This is just like before. I'm not able to do anything, while Mimi is facing whoever this master is alone. Why am I so useless?" Davis screamed to himself. All around Davis, the darkness began to grow. "At least it's peaceful." He began to close his eyes, before something caught his eye. A purple light was floating towards Davis, before it formed into a spectral warrior decked out in black armor with several lion's heads on it. Time seemed to halt for Davis as he stared at the Digimon, and he found he could move again.

"What is someone as pure as you doing in this ocean?" The warrior asked.

"I'm here because some stupid Master decided that my friend would make a great snack, and he tossed me in here," Davis yelled angrily.

"Peace. I'm not with Dragomon, the Master that you have such an issue with," the specter reassured.

"Sorry," Davis said, bashfully. "I'm just so angry. I've had a bad week, and I'm currently being reminded of everything that I'm unable to do!"

"Anger is fine, so long as you don't lose yourself in your anger. It was your anger that woke me up," the specter said. "I'm willing to help you."

"Really! Then, let's go!" Davis exclaimed, a wide smile forming on his face.

"It's not so simple. I'm not able to act in the physical world," the figure starts, wiping the smile from Davis' face. "But I can lend you my power."

"Wait, what!" Davis shouted.

"However, why should I?" The spirit asked. When Davis was about to shout in protest, the warrior held a hand up. "I hold the power of Darkness, and it has been abused one too many times for my taste."

"I don't care what kind of power you have!" Davis shouted, ruffling his hair. "You could have the power over jellybeans, and I'd still take it! If I can help Mimi and Palmon even just a bit, I'll take whatever I can!"

"Even if it could change you entirely? Young one, tell me, what do you think of the Darkness?" The specter asked.

"Why are you asking me this? Mimi is facing something that commands this entire place!" Davis screamed.

"Answer the question!" The specter shouted.

"Alright, alright," Davis said, placing his hands in front of him, before he went into a thinking pose. "For me Darkness has always been comforting. I never am able to go to sleep with the lights on, and when night comes, there's nothing much better than watching a movie in the dark with some food and family. But it also can suck because I can't see anything in front of me."

"Hahaha!" The spirit laughed. "Such a simple answer, but you are correct. Darkness is not good or evil. It can be used to help or hurt. Tell me, boy, what is your name?"

"I'm Davis Motomiya," Davis said, holding his hand out.

"Davis Motomiya, I am Loweemon, the Legendary Warrior of Darkness. As of today, I grant you my power to protect the Digital World. Use it well," Loweemon said, shaking his hand. Loweemon began shrinking before he changed into a totem that looked like Loweemon's armor rearranged to look like a lion crouched on a golden pedestal.

"Woah," Davis breathed as he reached out to touch the pedestal. Suddenly, his D-Terminal floated out of his pocket and absorbed the totem. It glowed before it changed into a black smartphone like device with a strange purple symbol on the back. A large lens was placed on the upper left. He gripped the device, and knowledge flowed into his head.

Confidently, Davis held out his hand, and a ring of Fractal Code formed around his hand. On the new device, the image of Loweemon's Spirit appeared on it. He swiped the lens of the device against the ring, creating some sparks as he did. "EXECUTE, SPIRIT EVOLUTION!" Davis shouted. The Fractal Code extended to cover all of Davis' body, and in Davis' place, Loweemon stood. A beam of dark energy shot out of Loweemon's body creating a path that Loweemon used to rapidly ascend out of the ocean waters.

XXxx BotS xxXX

"After that, the fight with Dragomon happened, and we eventually managed to escape. It was a surprise that Mimi also got a D-Coder as well," Davis said, before he sniffed the air. "The dumplings!" Davis shouted, running to the deep fryer. He quickly pulled the dumplings out of the fryer's basket and placed them on a plate. "Good news. The dumplings are okay," Davis said, placing them and a large bowl of rice on the table.

"They look delicious," Mimi said, taking a few dumplings and a large scoop of rice.

"Smells good, too," Tanemon said, sniffing Mimi's plate.

"Davis' dumpling is one of his best meals. They can be eaten alone or with a meal, but they always taste good," DemiVeemon said, taking a few for himself.

"Then, what are you waiting for? Dig in," Davis exclaimed.

"Itadakimasu!" Everyone shouted, before they took a bite into a dumpling.

"This is delicious. You're a really good chef," Mimi said happily.

"More please!" Tanemon and DemiVeemon shouted, shoving an empty plate in front of Davis.

"Calm down, you two. Save some for the rest of us," Davis chuckled, putting some rice and dumplings onto the plate.

"Thank you," Tanemon said. The rest of the meal continued in relative silence, and soon, the plates were empty.

"I think I ate too much," DemiVeemon moaned, patting a full and slightly bloated stomach. "But it was sooo worth it."

"It was certainly better than most food I've eaten in the Digital World," Tanemon said.

"Well, I have no regrets. Davis, you are a wonderful cook," Mimi said.

"Stop it. You're making me blush," Davis said, scratching the back of his head.

"Now that we've eaten something," Mimi said, before DemiVeemon groaned loudly. "With some of us eating more than they should."

"Still worth it, *Burp*" DemiVeemon groaned, prompting Tanemon to start giggling.

"I have to ask, what is your plan, now?" Mimi asked. "Are you going to tell the others about this or keep it a secret?"

"I hadn't really thought about it. I'm definitely going to keep it a secret for now, but I think I might go on my own," Davis said, thoughtfully.

"That might actually be for the best," Mimi said, getting a confused look from Davis. "Loweemon is the Legendary Warrior of Darkness, and the others don't have good experiences with darkness."

"Devimon, Myotismon and his minions, the Dark Masters, and Apocalymon were all Digimon that proudly proclaimed power over Darkness. I don't really know about the others, but I don't have any fond memories of them," Tanemon explained.

"I guess it doesn't help that I literally got Loweemon's Spirit from the Dark Ocean, a place that Kari definitely doesn't want anything to do with," Davis said. "I don't want to leave them all hanging, but I refuse to do nothing with the power Loweemon entrusted with me. They are pretty much my only real friends."

"I understand, and we can't exactly hide what happened," Mimi reassured before fiddling with her D-Coder. "We have to tell them what happened today, even if we don't tell them everything. There is no way we can hide what happened to our D-Terminals or my Digivice. I want to try something. Do you have a computer?"

"I have my laptop that I won in a contest," Davis answered, leaving the room. "Let me go get it." He returned a few seconds later with a laptop. "What do you want to try?"

"I want to see if I can open a DigiPort with the app that got us out of the Dark Ocean," Mimi said, bringing the app up. She presses the app, and a light shot from the lens of the D-Coder to the laptop. A few seconds passed before a Digi-Port was created.

"It worked!" Davis said. "Now, I don't have to rely on the computer room to get to the Digital World." As Davis turned to congratulate Mimi, he saw her looking thoughtful. "Is everything okay?"

"I'm just thinking," Mimi said, picking up Tanemon. "I snuck Tanemon out of the Digital World because I was afraid that if she was ever in trouble, I wouldn't be able to come help her. I would have to rely on others to save her, while I was stuck at home. But I just feel so bad, since I feel like I'm putting the Digital World at risk."

"Oh Mimi, you don't have to feel bad about trying to protect me. I'm glad that you are always looking out for me and others," Tanemon said, snuggling into her partner's hold. "Plus, now you can always come to the Digital World and help us out."

"Actually, that's perfect," Davis said suddenly. "You can come join me when I go on my own."

"Are you sure, Davis?" Mimi asked. "I don't know if I can be as big a help as I was today. I have no idea how I Digivolved Tanemon, and I don't have a Spirit I can fight with."

"Yet. You have a D-Coder, too. Who knows, but maybe you will find one yourself. I don't know, but it will be a lot more fun having some company," Davis said, cheerfully.

"You know what, I'll join you. I can't sit back anymore, while you and the others are working to save everyone. Let's protect the Digital World, together," Mimi said, holding out her hand.

"Together," Davis said, taking her hand.

Chapter End

I wrote this wanting to avoid doing the generic Davis hears his group talking behind his back and leaves the Digidestined. It's really out of character for pretty much everyone involved (except maybe Yolei who genuinely thinks Davis is a jerk, but she also loosens up near the end), and while Davis does get poked fun at a fair bit, he sometimes brings it on himself and can roll with it (most of the time. There are times when the Digidestined are just cruel to Davis). Instead, I want the change to be built on Davis' want to do more, which would create a more natural split.

Why Mimi? Partially because I introduced her as a character with a connection with Davis in my original Digimon story, but nothing really came from it. I also wanted to give some love to one of my favorite Digimon characters (and my favorite Adventure character) and give her a bigger role than she got in either Adventure seasons. Finally, I feel like she would be a great support to Davis and would help keep Davis from losing himself alone without being condescending. Plus, at this point, Mimi would want to be able to help more than she could. And the Mimi and Davis relationship (either as just friends or an actual relationship) gives me life! They are both so pure!

I'm going to go on a rant here though, so if you want to ignore this paragraph or two, go for it. While I say that Mimi and Davis are so pure, but unlike most of the fandom, I'm not defining them by their crests (and before you say anything, originally Mimi's crest was of Purity not Sincerity). I'm saying this because the entire fandom seems to be so obsessed with defining the characters of Adventure by their crests. They are more than the crests they use! Heck, I think that Davis is a better fit for the Crest of Purity than Yolei, but we have to give the crests that belonged to the original girls to the new girl (all of my salt).

The point I want to make is that we cannot just define the characters solely by the macguffin that defines their powers. It limits their character to an archetype instead of the actual person behind the character. For me, the crests were just a trait that the person exemplified at one point, but that is only one part of themselves. It's a big reason why I don't ship TK and Kari. The whole bullshit about Light and Hope creating the perfect pairing that the fandom created (and it is the fandom that created it.), really kills any potential enjoyment out of the relationship because it's preordained. It's an inevitable happily ever after that doesn't feel real, and as a result, I don't support it.

I chose the Digivice Burst mainly because it is the only Digivolving method that actually has the human partner's physical energy being transferred into the Digimon to cause the Digivolution which is how the Digidestined allowed their Digimon to Digivolve. Likewise, I chose to style the D-Coder (to kind of keep with the naming pun of the D-Tector) after the Smartphone Digivice in the Last Evolution Kizuna movie, which I haven't seen but stumbled upon when researching for this chapter. The profile picture for the story should be a picture of Davis' D-Coder that I drew and a brief explanation on how it works.

I really like Davis (my favorite 02 character), and one of the only real complaints I have is that his crush on Kari holds him back. Truthfully, I ship the two, but I find that he is a much more interesting character when he isn't obsessed with trying to impress Kari (and truthfully anyone for that matter). It's a bit of a theme with characters that I like. Marinette, Davis, and Nate (from Yokai Watch) are all characters that I love, but I find that they are so much better when they aren't trying to impress their crushes which seriously impacts their potential. It's part of my rationale for how Davis acted in this chapter. He was solely focused on helping Mimi and not impressing (or proving himself to) anyone. He also experienced a near death without the others around to support him (and was thrown into the Dark Ocean which corrupts most that goes in it), so he's going to take things a lot more seriously and view things differently. Above all, I'm trying to keep in mind that Davis and Mimi are kids and will act like kids.

Hopefully, this will be better than my original Digimon story. The biggest change is that I made sure to plan most of the chapters ahead, so I'm not just getting to a point that I've written myself in a whole. Currently, I have over 20 chapters planned ahead and a lot of time, so I should (though don't hold your breath) have another chapter out in a few weeks. I think the goal is to have a chapter out every two or three weeks, but I make no promises for that actually happening. But this time I have an idea of how this is going to go, so I'm not just going to be piling things haphazardly onto a pile and waiting to see if it won't collapse.
