The ability to evolve can be incredibly useful. Such is the case for Destoroyah. With every transformation, not only did he get stronger, but he got smarter. When he reached his adult form, he was cold and calculating. He was not experienced in combat, but he was able to learn on the fly. He even learned to plan ahead.

Destoroyah was no fool. During his fight with Godzilla, he quickly realized how strong his opponent was. And it frightened him. When he split into a swarm of his smaller aggregate forms, one smaller aggregate fled in order to ensure his survival if Godzilla won. And as we know, this turned out to be a very good idea.

He witnessed Junior's rebirth, and when the latter left, he followed. Now, Destoroyah is lying in wait, gathering his strength, planning his revenge. One day soon, he will reveal himself, and the whole world will tremble in fear.

It had been nearly seven months since the battle with Destoroyah, yet Junior still remembered the way to the city where it took place. The first thing he noticed when he and Anguirus approached the city was how much of it had been rebuilt. Signs of the battle still remained, but much of the debris had been removed and several buildings were either rebuilt or in the process of being built.

"Amazing." Anguirus said.

"What?"

"The fact that something so small can make something bigger than us."

"You mean bigger than YOU."

"Hey!"

"Oh, come on. You had to have seen that one coming."

"Obviously, you didn't notice that there are several buildings over there on the left that are a good bit taller than your prideful self."

"Ooh! You got me on that one."

Junior steps forward noticing Anguirus does not follow.

"You coming?" he asks.

"No, you go on ahead. This is your thing. I'll stay here."

"Okay. Thanks, Anguirus. You're a good friend."

"As are you."

And with that, Junior continued onward. As he walked into the city, Junior noticed that his father's remains, along with Destoroyah's, had also been removed. He didn't mind, however. The last thing he wanted to see was a dried-up pile of melted flesh. He wanted to remember his father as he was when he was alive.

He bowed his head and stood there, motionless, for several minutes before looking up at the sky and roaring a final goodbye. He didn't know why, but for several more minutes, he stared at clouds as if he were expecting a reply. Naturally, none came. Feeling satisfied, Junior turned around and walked away, back to where Anguirus was waiting for him, just offshore.

"Feeling better?" his friend asked.

"Yeah. Yeah, I feel a lot better, actually."

"You see? I knew this would be good for ya."

"But it was my idea to do this in the first place."

"And I supported you."

While they were talking, Junior heard military vehicles approaching.

"We'd better go. The humans don't exactly want us around."

"Oh, really? In my day, humans worshipped us. If a kaiju approached a human settlement, they'd get on their knees and grovel like a wounded youngling would to a predator."

"Well, that's interesting. Either way, we'd better go. I don't wanna start a fight right now."

"Nor do I. Well, time to move on, I suppose. Next stop: the unknown."

"Lead the way."

And so, Junior and Anguirus took their leave of the human city. Behind them, hundreds of confused humans sigh in relief, wondering what just happened. And farther away, a top secret military project is in the process of being moved to a new location, it's makers quite pleased that the city was spared, for their new weapon was not yet operational.

For several days afterward, Junior and Anguirus swam. Junior had never been so far from land before. When he came to the surface, all he could see was blue ocean as far as the eye could see. He never said anything, but he began to doubt Anguirus knew where they were going. He feared that they were lost in the blue. Soon enough, however, he was proven wrong. The first time they saw land after leaving Tokyo, they did not come ashore, but Anguirus stopped to tell Junior what they were looking at.

"That there is Infant Island, the home and birthplace of the Mothra."

Upon hearing this, Junior looked on in awe at the island. Suddenly, a memory flash hit him like a tail swipe to the face. He saw his father in battle with two strange worm-like creatures, one significantly more menacing and powerful than the other.

"Be right back." Junior said as he dove down to investigate the ocean floor. A short distance from where he and Anguirus had stopped, he found signs of the battle in his vision. Blast marks, hardened lava, volcanic fissures in the ocean floor, they were all there.

When Junior returned, Anguirus was concerned by his behavior, but he had a feeling he knew what was going on, so he never said anything. A short while later, he learned that he was right.

They continued onward, and the next day, they caught sight of two more islands. They were too far away for Anguirus to properly identify them, however. Two days later, a massive storm system loomed on the horizon. The clouds were almost pitch black, and even miles away, they could feel it's winds. They could hear thunder rumbling quietly in the distance, and as they approached, it became louder and louder.

"So, that's where we're going?" Junior asked nervously.

"Yes. There are several islands hidden under those clouds."

"Oh."

"We're only gonna visit one, though. The Island of the Skull."

"That's comforting."

"Actually, it's not as bad as it sounds. Unless you don't have good intentions, anyway."

"And what's that supposed to mean?"

"I'll tell you when we get there."

Into the storm they went, submerging in order to avoid the worst of it. Underwater, the only problem they faced was the ominous feeling they had that they were being watched. Every few seconds, Junior looked around, thinking something was following them. At one point, he could've sworn he saw a pair of eyes watching him, but he dismissed it, thinking it was just the fear getting to him.

After several hours, Anguirus, not being a water creature, had to surface in order to get a breath of air. Junior followed, and the both of them looked around to see if they could spot their destination. Instead, they saw something a bit more alarming. Several hundred feet away, a pair of large yellow fins were sticking out of the water.

The creature they belonged to circled, and its quarry stood their ground, back to back, waiting for it to make a move. After several minutes, the fins submerged. Now, there was no telling where the creature was.

"What is it?" Junior asked.

"Not sure. If my guess is right, though, we'd better get out of the water fast."

"Easier said than do-OH!"

Junior was cut short when the creature slammed into him, pulling him underwater. Sharp teeth closed around his neck and huge claws dug into his shoulders. Anguirus called after him and tried to pursue, but he was too slow and the deeper they went, the harder it was for him to see.

The whole time, Junior repeatedly struck his enemy's chest, but all that did was make it angrier. After several minutes, he changed tactics, clawing at the creature's face. This worked, causing the creature to cry out in pain and throw Junior like a ragdoll. Quickly, he swam away, swinging around behind his attacker and taking it by surprise.

As they approached the sea floor, Junior noticed a large pillar of rock pointing up at them. He threw his opponent against this pillar, causing it to shatter and bury the creature under the debris. When the creature freed itself, Junior was waiting, standing on the ocean floor. He made no move.

The creature charged, and still Junior didn't move. When it got close enough, he turned around, smacking it in the face with his tail and sending it tumbling into the rocky terrain below. As it thrashed around in pain, struggling to get back up, Junior stopped to get a good look at the creature.

Its red-scaled body was about fifty feet or so taller than Junior. It had a fairly short tail with a large yellow fish-like fin on the end. Another fin ran down its neck with a third running down its back. A smaller pair of fins covered it's ears. Its arms and legs were similar to Junior's, with the exception of webbing between the fingers and toes. Its ivory claws were also much longer. Its crocodile-like head, which sported a fearsome row of teeth, rested atop a long muscular neck. All in all, a fearsome-looking creature and a worthy adversary. As it got to its feet, Junior spoke.

"I don't know who you are and I don't want to fight you, but I will if I have to."

The creature gave no reply.

"Do you even understand me?"

The creature leaned its head forward, indicating that it did.

"If you want to keep fighting, then let's get it over with. I'll warn you, though, I'm a lot more powerful than I look and I do not intend to hold back. As a show of good sportsmanship, though, I'll let you get the first shot."

The creature growled, baring it's teeth in a fearsome grin. There was a pause. The creature bellowed and launched itself toward Junior, striking him hard in the face with its clawed hand. Junior retaliated with a punch to the jaw, knocking his opponent off-balance.

The creature shook it off and turned back just in time to see Junior's fist as it collided with his face. It stumbled backward, then lunged at Junior, using its long neck to strike at him like a heron at a fish. He missed, but just barely. He walked forward and continued to do this, snapping his jaws and forcing Junior to back away in order to avoid a bite.

Behind Junior was a massive rock formation, sort of an underwater hill about 700 feet high or so with a cliff on one side. It was directly below this cliff that the creature forced Junior to. Backed into a corner, he was trapped. The creature darted its head in again, this time latching its jaws onto Junior's arm as he attempted to block the attack. Swinging its body around, the creature threw Junior as hard as it could, sending him flying through the water and crashing into the seafloor.

As Junior attempted to get up, the creature's foot slammed his head back down. Repeatedly, the creature stomped Junior's head into the rocky terrain. Believing it had won, it roared in triumph. Stepping back, it leaned forward, hoping to feed on the carcass, only to stop when it saw Junior's spines begin to glow.

Suddenly, Junior's eyes snapped open and a blinding flash of blue light erupted from his body, sending his enemy flying into the rock face. Junior stood up and began to blast the cliff with his atomic breath, burying his opponent in boulders. When the creature began to free itself from the rubble, Junior grabbed it by the back of the neck and began to repeatedly punch it in the face. When he was done, he pulled the creature's head up so he could see its bloodied face. He watched its expression change to downright terrified as he charged his atomic breath and fired it... directly upward.

"I don't want to kill you." he said. "Yield and this will go no further."

The creature bowed its head in submission.

"Good choice."

And with that out of the way, Junior began to dig the creature out of the rocks.

"Why?" the creature asked, much to Junior's surprise.

"Why did I let you live?"

"Yes. I attacked you. I tried to eat you. You have no reason to let me live."

"Simple. I only kill when I have to and I knew you couldn't keep fighting. Besides, the world would be worse off with a strong fighter like you dead."

"You fight with honor. I respect that. I will never forget this. I am Titanosaurus, and I hope to return the favor someday. What is your name?"

"Godzilla Junior."

A short while later, Junior returned to the surface, where a very worried Anguirus was waiting.

"Junior! I thought you were dead! I saw your fire-breath shoot out of the water, then nothing. What happened down there?"

"Let's just say I made a new friend."

They resumed their journey and Junior explained to Anguirus what happened in more detail. Anguirus was quite proud of his young friend. Apparently, defeating one of Titanosaurus's kind was no small feat.

"They're some of the strongest of all kaiju. What they lack in special abilities, they make up for in physical prowess. Just be glad you were fighting on the seafloor, because if you were swimming the whole time, it might've ended differently. They're the fastest swimmers I've ever seen."

"Thanks for the vote of confidence."

"Hey, I could be wrong. You're a pretty fast swimmer yourself. I know for a fact that you've been getting a little restless because you think we're going at too slow of a pace."

"How did you-"

"Oh, please! It's written all over your face. And I can tell you've been getting antsy because of the way you've been talking. Don't worry, though, we're almost there."

Sure enough, their island destination came into sight within the hour. Above it, the storm lessened. In some places, the sun's rays shone through the clouds. Around the island, rocks jutted out of the water. Shipwrecks could be seen in their midst. As they approached the beach, Junior noticed that the sand was littered with skulls. Kaiju skulls. Beyond that, the mountainous terrain was covered in dense forest shrouded by a thick cloud of mist.

"I can see where this island gets its name." Junior said nervously.

"Yeah, the natives are a pretty violent bunch. They're smart, though. Really smart. They place the skulls of their enemies here on the beach in order to scare off any potential threats. Doesn't always work, though."

"It's working a little on me."

"Their leader's name is Kong. He guards the entrance to the caverns. You've never been here before, and he's not particularly fond of strangers, so there's a chance you'll have to fight him. I'm an old acquaintance of his, though, so I should be able to talk him down. Either way, it's been a long trip and I'm sure we're both exhausted. We should get some rest. We'll head inland in the morning."

Junior agreed, though his nervousness made it difficult to sleep. What had he gotten himself into? What kind of monster would this Kong be? And can he defeat Kong if the need arises?
