After Junior left, Anguirus remained on Skull Island for two weeks, catching up with Kong and making sure his injury healed without issue. Afterwards, he went straight back to Adonoa Island. It felt lonely without Junior there. Anguirus was used to being alone, however, so it didn't bother him too much.

He had mixed feelings about Junior's decision. On one hand, he thought it was a good idea for Junior to sort out his issues on his own. On the other, he still thought they could've worked it out together. Junior shouldn't have had to deal with it on his own, but he is. All because he wanted to protect his friend.

Anguirus still thought he could help him. The problem, however, was that he didn't know where in the world Junior was. There was no point in looking. He promised to return to the island, and Anguirus would hold him to it. The sooner he got back, the better.

There was nothing Anguirus could do but wait. And that is what he did. Several days later, he went down to the canyon to catch an Ebirah. To his horror, however, all the Ebirahs he saw were dead. They had all either been stabbed to death, blasted by some sort of heat ray, or eaten right out of their shells. He even found a few Mandas among the corpses.

He couldn't help but wonder what could possibly do such a thing. After a short while spent searching the canyon, he got his answer. He caught sight of something moving behind a rock and went to investigate. At first, he thought it was a live Ebirah, but it only took a few seconds for him to realize that it definitely wasn't.

The creature he saw was quite frightening. It was a little smaller than him. Its body was very crab-like, with a pair of claws at the front, a pair of spear-like appendages on its back, and a long fork-tipped tail. Its front half was reared up above its torso, with its frilled head sporting yellow eyes and a toothy muzzle with a secondary jaw shooting out every now and then.

Thankfully, the creature didn't see him. But when he turned away, he saw several more just like it. They were feeding on the carcasses. Anguirus attempted to sneak back to the island without being noticed, but it was no use.

One of the creatures spotted him and screeched out an alert. Anguirus swam back as fast as he could, looking back to see at least a dozen of the creatures watching him go. He didn't know if they would follow or not.

Once ashore, he turned back, staring at the water, waiting for the creatures to make a move. He did so for several hours, not seeing any sign of them. During this time, day turned into night. Eventually, Anguirus decided to go and get some rest.

Later that night, he woke up after hearing strange sounds. He crawled out of his cave and stood in the center of the valley, ready for action. There was an unsettling silence. All Anguirus could hear was the sound of the waves in the distance. After several minutes, he began to grow restless with anticipation. He roared out a challenge, daring whatever was out there to make a move.

A screech behind him alerted him to his assailants' presence. Two of the creatures he saw earlier entered the valley. Their yellow eyes glowed in the darkness.

As he watched on, Anguirus remembered a description Junior once gave him. He wondered: could this be Destoroyah? He stepped forward and spoke:

"Who are you?"

The creatures stopped. They gave no reply, but they looked at each other, seemingly confused. They turned back to Anguirus and screeched loudly.

Anguirus roared back, ready to fight, only to hear a high-pitched sound and feel something hit him in the back. He turned around to see a third creature behind him. This one must've already been here, Anguirus thought. That's what he heard earlier.

"Fine. Be that way."

Anguirus charged his attacker, ramming his head into it. His horn dug deep into its chest, making it cry out in pain. He turned around and threw the creature. Its body slammed into one of its comrades while the other fired a purple beam of energy at Anguirus.

The attack very nearly missed, just grazing Anguirus's leg as he ran toward it. This wasn't enough to stop him, however. A tail club to the face was proof of that.

Now, all three creatures were laying on the ground. Two were wounded and desperately trying to get up, while the third lay motionless. The one Anguirus threw had been impaled on one of its comrade's spears. The spear itself was still buried in the creature, having broken off its owner.

After a minute or so, the others managed to get up. One had a missing limb, the other bore deep wounds on the side of its face where Anguirus's spiky tail club hit it. They stared at Anguirus with eyes filled with hatred. Anguirus glared back at them, ready to finish them off if they attacked again. They made no move. It was a standoff.

After several more minutes, they charged. Anguirus was ready for them, however. He reared up on his back legs, took a deep breath, and used his secret weapon: a sonic roar.

The force of the roar sent the creatures flying backward, their bodies landing hard on the ground. This time, Anguirus didn't give them time to get up. He pinned them down, one under each of his front legs.

"I'll ask again: who are you?"

Again, there was no reply. All they did was tick Anguirus off with their silence. He dug his claws into them to show them that he wasn't messing around.

"Answer me! If you don't, you'll end up like your friend over there."

Once more, they weren't deterred. One fired a beam attack at him, but Anguirus ducked and sank his teeth into the attacker's neck. Still, neither of them would speak, so he tore the head off the creature he was chewing on and moved on to the last.

He slammed its head down, and asked again. This time, the creature made a strange chittering sound. Laughter.

"You'll find out soon enough," it said. "This was just a warning. And believe me, it won't be the last. The real fun begins when your friend comes back. We have quite a surprise for him! You can kill me if you want, it doesn't matter. We are many, but our minds are as one."

This confirmed Anguirus's suspicions. These creatures were, in fact, Destoroyah. He growled and finished the creature off by stomping its face in. The next hour or so was spent thinking about what Destoroyah said. He had several questions on his mind. Plus, not knowing where Junior was, he couldn't think of anything he could do.

Afterwards, he went back to sleep. This time, however, it was a lighter sleep. He wanted to be ready for action at a moment's notice. It was a good thing, too.

The next day, he was awakened by the sound of more Destoroyahs screeching in the distance. He remained in his cave, waiting for one of them to pass by. After about twenty minutes or so, one did.

It stood there, looking around and calling out to its counterparts. Anguirus remained motionless, however, because he didn't want to give away his position. Not yet.

The Destoroyah saw the cave, however, and slowly approached. It stuck its head in the entrance, and Anguirus made his move. He grabbed it by the face and dragged it as far into the cave as possible, its body thrashing around as it tried to free itself.

The other Destoroyahs took notice and watched as their comrade suddenly stopped moving. One went in to investigate, getting in as close as possible in order to try and look into the cave. Suddenly, the body of the fallen Destoroyah erupted out of the cave, propelled by Anguirus's sonic roar. It's body slammed into the other one, knocking it backward and pinning it down.

Anguirus charged out, trampling the trapped Destoroyah as he ran to meet the three others that were waiting for him. He jumped into the air and balled up, crushing the first Destoroyah under his weight as he slammed into it. The other two began to shoot micro-oxygen beams at him as he rolled around the valley.

He came around, heading straight for one of the Destoroyahs, his armor protecting him from their attacks as he approached. Unrolling himself, Anguirus lept toward the crab-like beast, head down and claws outstretched. He hit it directly in the face, the sharp horns on the back of his head doing serious damage.

When he got back on his feet after landing, he turned to face the last Destoroyah, only to find that it wasn't there. He looked around, but there was no sign of it. It looked as if it retreated. Just as Anguirus breathed a sigh of relief, however, a micro-oxygen beam hit him in the back.

Anguirus turned around, seeing nothing. Seconds later, a strange high-pitched roar alerted him to his opponent's position. It was airborne. He looked up to see the last of his attackers, its body having drastically changed, circling above him.

Now, its body was more flattened out, with large wings and a reptilian head sporting an orange horn. It roared again and fired another beam at Anguirus. He saw it coming this time, though, and quickly turned to block the attack with his armor.

When it flew over, Anguirus watched it come around and waited. The Destoroyah turned, and flew at Anguirus, charging up for another attack. Anguirus beat him to it, however, using his sonic roar against his airborne opponent. The attack knocked the beast off-balance, sending it crashing down.

A cloud of dust hung over the Destoroyah where it hit the ground. Unable to see it, Anguirus approached with caution. He stood a short distance away, waiting. Just as the dust began to clear, the Destoroyah, no longer in its flying form, made its move.

One of its spears shot out of the dust, scoring a direct hit on Anguirus's shoulder and piercing the flesh under his armor. The monster's head appeared, and roared at Anguirus. Anguirus roared back, and bit down on the limb the spear was attached to. The Destoroyah retaliated by slashing at Anguirus's face with its other spear, only succeeding in making him angry.

Anguirus bit down harder, breaking the strange appendage in two, and pulled the spear out of his shoulder. He glared at his wounded opponent, teeth bared, his head covered in the Destoroyahs' yellow blood as well as his own. He slammed his tail on the ground, attempting to scare his opponent, but to no avail. The Destoroyah fired one last micro-oxygen beam, only managing to hit Anguirus's armored back as he turned around, swinging his tail as hard as he could. So hard, in fact, his spiky tail club actually tore the creature's head off.

He stood there, staring at the body while he caught his breath. He turned around, and looked at the corpses that now littered the valley. Six of them, with the one he just dispatched making seven. As he headed back to his cave, he wondered how long these attacks would go on.

Over the next week or so, they kept coming. There was at least one attack a day, but there were a few times when it was more. Anguirus managed to thwart the Destoroyahs' efforts every time, but he suffered more and more injuries in the process. So far, none of the wounds he suffered were anything to worry about, but he knew his luck wouldn't last forever.

One the tenth day, Anguirus woke up expecting more unwelcome visitors. To his surprise, he heard nothing. He crawled out of the cave and looked around. All he saw was the corpses of his fallen enemies. Two dozen total.

Then he heard it. The flapping of wings and the call of an old friend. He did indeed have a visitor, but it definitely wasn't unwelcome.

As for Junior, after what happened on Skull Island, he wandered aimlessly through the ocean, only changing course when he came close to land. As he swam, he racked his mind, trying to figure out why he lost control of himself. He did so for days, trying to figure it out.

He had never done anything like this before, not during his fights with the Ebirahs, not when he fought Titanosaurus, not even when he fought Destoroyah. Before he met Kong, he only fought when he had to, only killed when necessary. He'd never let his anger get the better of him. Why did he do so with Kong?

After some time, it occurred to him that maybe memories weren't the only thing he inherited from his father. Searching through their shared memories, he realized that there were several instances where Godzilla went beserk on his enemies for seemingly no reason. This proved his theory. He inherited aspects of his father's personality.

This also left him with more questions. What else did Godzilla pass on to him? Was it good or bad? These questions, he couldn't answer.

Even though he knew what the problem was, he didn't know what to do about it. After some time, he gave up, deciding that he would deal with it the next time the problem came up. He still worried about what would happen if he lost control of himself again, however, so he continued to traverse the world's oceans.

Along the way, he memorized the routes he took in case he wanted to return to any of the places he visited during his travels. He also marvelled at the beauty of the ocean. Coral reefs, schools of fish, kelp forests. They all fascinated him. He had never taken the time to observe these before, but he knew he was definitely going to do so again.

After a few weeks, Junior ended up back in Japanese waters. He swam along the coast, often surfacing so he could see the human cities. As he approached one such city, however, he came to a stop.

It felt as if something compelled him to come ashore there. He didn't know what it was, but he intended to find out. As he surfaced, he took a look around.

As it turns out, the place he was drawn to wasn't really much of a city at all. It was more of a large military base. Most of the buildings were rather short. Tanks and other such vehicles were kept in several open areas between the buildings. A very large building appeared to have been built into one of the mountains in the background, with the top of said building jutting out. It was this building that Junior was being drawn to.

The humans must've known Junior was coming, for the soldiers had already begun to mobilize. Tanks began to move out and planes were taking off. Some were already in position to fire. Junior didn't want to start a fight with the humans, but he had no choice. He had to keep going.

As he made his way through the base, he was pelted by Maser cannons from both above and below. These blasts did hurt somewhat, but Junior made no move to retaliate. He was too focused on his goal. Plus, he didn't carry the same hatred toward them that his father did.

As he approached, he felt something. A familiar presence touched his mind. It was Miki Saegusa, an old friend from when he was a hatchling, reaching out with her telepathic powers. She was trying to warn him about something, but what?

Suddenly, the connection was broken, and what appeared to be a large yellow Maser beam blasted through the visible part of the building. Junior jumped back in a combination of shock, fear, and grief. Miki was injured, most likely dead. The last connection to his childhood may well be broken.

Another beam fired out of the mountain, slicing through the rock and metal like a knife through butter. Junior took a direct hit to the chest from the beam, knocking him off his feet. He looked up and watched as whatever it was that did this tore its way out of the mountain. After a minute or two, it was free.

There, striding out of a cloud of dust and smoke, was what appeared to be some sort of metallic kaiju. Right away, Junior noticed an uncanny similarity between them. And more alarming still was the fact that he had seen something very similar to this thing before. Or more accurately, his father had. Whatever this thing was, if it was anything like the one Godzilla faced, Junior knew that he was in for the fight of his life.

The mech walked right past Junior, too focused on the military to have noticed him. As he got to his feet, Junior watched in horror as the mech decimated the humans, destroying everything in sight. He couldn't help but hate this strange being. It seemed to live for death and destruction. He knew he had to end this here and now. What he didn't know was that there's much more to this new enemy than meets the eye.
