The fight scene in this chapter will not be long, it will be short but brutal. I would also like to give a special shout out to aresu, the author of Love Your Enemy. This part of the fic will take place a few years before chapter 4 where Mako meets her students.
Filler chapter: Shisui's ''Death''
-Konohagakure no Sato, Hokage's office-
9 years ago...
A lone figure was seen walking up the stairs to head into the Hokage's office and the figure appeared to be at least 5'10'' in height with the standard Konoha Jonin vest on, black pants and ninja boots. The most noticeable attribute about the figure was that he had a ninjato strapped to his right side and one strapped normally to his back and a Konoha headband wrapped on his forehead with the kanji for fire written on the cloth part of the headwear. Making his way to the door that led into the Hokage's office he knocks on it and hearing the voice from within telling him to come in he opens the door and enters. The young man was revealed to be a 18 year old Kenji Kasugano was seen walking up to the Hokage's desk to receive his mission. Just as he woke up to begin his day Mako Uchiha, his best friend and rival made her way toward his apartment and informed him that Lord Hiruzen has a mission for him and he was to report to the office right away so here he was now standing in front of the 3rd Hokage. It had been several days since his last one so it was no surprise to him that the Professor had a task for him to carry out and he was ready to get it done and add another completed mission to his ever growing list.
He bows in respect to the elderly man.
''Lord Hiruzen I'm here as you wanted.'' said the man.
Hiruzen took a puff of smoke from his pipe and nodded his head at his Jonin.
''Welcome Kenji, I suppose Mako had informed you about a mission I have for you?''
''Yeah, if I may ask what kind of mission do you have?''
Hiruzen took the scroll he was reading and tossed it to Kenji who effortlessly catches it and the Jonin looks at it good and hard and simply reads it in his head while Hiruzen gave him the details.
''Recently there have been reports of unknown individuals seen between at our border with Ame. The ANBU did not risk getting closer to get a good visual on the unknowns but from what they can tell they think it might be samurai lurking around the area. I want you and your partner to investigate this and see what their intentions are. I have scheduled this mission to last one full day since you'll be heading out to Ame's border for this.'' explained the Hokage.
''Samurai? I thought Iron country was destroyed by Kumo during the second war?'' Kenji asked incredulously.
''It may be possible there are more out there but if there happens to be few remaining when you confront them you are tasked with telling them they're in foreign territory and if they respond without hostility you may bring them back for questioning, however should they respond aggressively you may use deadly force if necessary.'' said the Hokage.
Kenji simply nodded and rolled the scroll up and put it in the pocket of his shoulder vest in case he needed to remind himself of the mission as he heads out.
''So you said I have a partner for this mission right? Who is it if I may ask?''
Hiruzen was about to answer the Jonin but suddenly the door opened and in walked a very familiar sight to both of them. Turning around Kenji saw another young man of the same age as him and he was wearing a black high collared shirt which was standard among the Uchiha, gray pants and black ANBU combat boots. Kenji never needed anyone to tell him who is partner for the mission was because he already knew the person very well since they were little academy boys.
''So my brother from another mother is my partner for this mission? Bad ass.'' Kenji declared with a happy smile.
Shisui smiled back at his friend and walked up to him and the two friends fist bump, ''Either it was me or Kakashi Kenji.''
''Wait, that guy was supposed to be my partner for this mission?''
''Yeah and as soon as Mako told me you were going to be sent on a mission with that guy I told him I'll fill in for him, with Lord Hiruzen's permission of course."
Kenji rolled his eyes and scoffed at the thought of Kakashi originally being his partner. Even as he reached the rank of Jonin that silver-haired guy was still as snobby as pompous as ever.
''Pffft, if he went on this mission with me it would fail before it even started so I'm glad you stepped in! So ya ready to head out? Did the old man brief you already?''
Shisui nodded, ''Yeah, we're gonna head out to the border with Ame to investigate sightings of what the ANBU think are samurai right?''
''Exactly, so you all ready to head out?''
''Yeah, you are the team lead for this mission after all but first let's go see Mako-chan and let her know we'll be on our way.'' said the Uchiha.
Kenji nodded and the two males bid the Hokage farewell and headed out to find their friend and in Shisui's case, his girlfriend.
''Bet she's watching little man and his little Iwa girl.'' Kenji thought with a smile.
-Third Training Field-
On a treetop overlooking the Third Training Field a lone female ANBU agent was seen sitting on a branch looking out into the field. The agent was seen with long, raven hair and she wore the standard ANBU uniform. Her mask was that of a wolf and she appeared to be at least 5'4'' in height and from the distance it appeared she was watching over a certain 11 year old blonde and an Iwa girl doing some training in the field.
From the distance she can hear the girl berating the blonde for not being able to beat her in a spar and the ANBU agent giggled to herself at the sight. As she continued to observe them two figures landed on a nearby branch and sensing the presence she turned to look to see Kenji and Shisui standing opposite her direction. Both men looking at her with big smiles on their faces.
The ANBU agents stands up on her branch and takes off the mask she was wearing to reveal her beautiful face.
''Hey Kenji-kun, Shisui-kun. Heading out on the mission soon?'' the revealed Mako Uchiha asked.
Shisui and Kenji hopped over to join her on the branch she was on so that she and Shisui can hug and give each other kisses on the lips much to Kenji's amusement.
''Need a room?'' he joked.
Mako and Kenji let out a light laugh at the joke and it would be Mako who turned the tables on him.
''Yeah, when you guys get back.''
Kenji rolled his eyes at his best friend and rival.
''To answer your question Mako-chan, yeah me and Kenji are just about to head out but we decided to stop by and see you real quick to let you know we're off.'' Shisui explained, ''The mission is taking us to the border with Ame as supposed samurai were seen spotted lingering around the area.''
''Oh yeah and Lord Hiruzen wants us to see what their intentions are but if it comes down to it let's hope we get into some fight. I LOVE fighting.'' Kenji said with a thumbs up, ''Haven't really been in an actual fight with strong opponents since our border clash with Kiri ended a year ago.''
Mako smiled at her rival and best friend's spirit, the guy was always ready to square up and step up to any opponent when the chance presented himself.
''You want a fight? When you finish the mission let's have a spar and I'll give you a fight that'll have me put you on your ass again.'' joked the female Uchiha sticking her tongue out at Kenji while earning a chuckle from Shisui.
A massive tic mark formed on Kenji's head and now sporting literal fire for eyes he points his fingers accusingly at the young woman. ''OH YEAH!? Wait until the mission is done challenge number one-thousand is gonna be my win and that winning streak of yours ends!''
Mako let go of Shisui and dashed over to Kenji and covered his mouth with her gloved hand.
''Shhh! Naruto is sparring with that Iwa girl don't let them hear us.'' Mako whispered.
Kenji immediately calmed down and looking in the direction Mako was pointing at he saw his sensei's son and that Iwa girl that arrived in the village a year ago training together at the field. Well, it was more like the Iwa girl making the boy do push ups and runs.
''Look at him go you guys, that boy has a lot of determination.'' Shisui said.
''Yeah, he has such a powerful and indominable spirit just like Minato-sensei.'' Mako said proudly.
''Little man just doesn't give up, just like me!'' declared Kenji.
The three of them continued to watch Naruto and Kurotsuchi train for half an hour before Kenji decided that it was time for them to execute their mission. So bidding Mako farewell the two males departed Konoha through the main gate and were making jokes about Kotetsu and Izumo being eternal gate guards.
-Fire Country, border with Ame-
After two hours of being on the move Kenji and Shisui had finally arrived at the border with Ame and thankfully they arrived at the location without incident. Usually the area would have highwayman and the occasional group of bandits but if they encountered it it wouldn't be a problem for the two Konoha Jonin. Currently they were seen resting in a small opening in the border's forested area and since they were near Ame the clouds began to change and they heard a thunderstorm off in the distance. As of now they had a makeshift camp with the two of them resting around a campfire Kenji had made.
''So do you think these supposed samurai are looking for trouble bro?'' Kenji asked as he was cleaning his ninjato. However, he did not get a response and when he looked up at Shisui it looked like the Uchiha was lost in thought so Kenji repeated his question and finally got his attention.
''Huh? What did you say Kenji?'' asked the confused Shisui.
''I asked if you think these supposed samurai are looking for trouble.'' repeated Kenji.
Shisui looked at the fire and the two sat in silence before the Uchiha gave him an answer, ''We don't really know until we confront them but let's hope they aren't. We don't need another incident like they had with Kumo all those years ago.''
Kenji puts his ninjato back in their sheathes and leans back against the tree trunk he was resting against. ''Yeah well, let's hope they are looking for trouble fighting shinobi from Iwa and Kiri it's the same thing with them, oh earth release! Grrrrr water release!'' he let out laughs at his joke on the ninjas from Iwa and Kiri, ''They are too easy and predictable let's hope these samurai are hostile because I need a new challenge!''
Shisui wasn't paying attention at all to what his friend was saying and instead was looking around the area. To him Kenji's voice became nothing more than muffles when he began to focus on looking around them and sensed something was wrong. Shisui loved Kenji dearly but if he was being honest right now he didn't give a crap on what his friend was saying right now. That was until he caught the slightest bit of movement in the bushes nearby and when he looked in that particular direction he saw an arrow was fired and if he had to judge the trajectory of it it would strike Kenji in the face and kill him instantly.
''Look out!''
''Huh?''
Kenji was caught off guard when Shisui leaped over and tackled him out of the way and the arrow just barely misses Kenji's face and harmlessly embeds into the tree he was leaning against. The two land on the ground with a hard thud knocking the wind out of Kenji temporarily and Shisui simply stood up and grabbed his tanto blade holding it defensively in front of him.
''Ow! What the heck Shisui!" Kenji groaned.
Kenji looked up at his friend and saw the defensive stance he was in and didn't even need to know that they had company because he turned to look where he was just sitting and saw the arrow in the tree. Reacting immediately he drew his ninjato and joined Shisui with his own defensive stance.
''We got company.'' Shisui whispered.
Kenji didn't verbally respond to that fact and instead the two of them scanned the tree line for any sign of movement. The two remained in that position for a good ten minutes as literally nothing happened and the only thing significant was the change in weather as it now started to rain. Just then the two heard movement behind them and Kenji would be the first to react when he turned around and a samurai came charging out of the bush with his katana raised high and thankfully Kenji was able to react fast enough to where he uses his right ninjato to catch the katana and with the other one takes it and thrusts the blade through the opening of the man's mask killing him instantly.
Another samurai appears in front of Shisui and the Uchiha reacts fast as well and takes down the samurai without any effort with a thrust through the armor into the heart.
''So the ANBU were right after all! There are samurai in the area.'' Kenji said.
''No kidding, keep your guard up and let's move. Don't want to remain here for long.'' Shisui suggested.
The two males then proceeded to gather their belongings and began to take off with the hopes of regaining their bearings. After running through the woods they were stopped when several arrows landed in front of them and when they looked to the front they noticed a small group of samurai standing several yards in front of them with their katanas glowing in their chakra. Kenji and Shisui noticed that some of them had their masks on while some only had the bottom portion of their armor worn. The main thing Kenji noticed in their eyes was the completely hateful and bloodlust in them.
Knowing their main objective was to see what their intentions were Kenji put his swords down and slowly stepped toward the samurai with Shisui watching him intently.
''Let's hope they're willing to listen.'' thought Shisui.
Kenji knew that the two of them killing the samurai from earlier was unavoidable so he was hoping to get through to this particular group to avoid a fight if they could, but deep down he was hoping they would attack him like the ones from earlier.
''What are your intentions? You samurai do realize you're in our country and your buddies attacking us earlier is enough to cause an international incident. So what are you doing here? If you're not looking for trouble we will take you back to the village for questioning, however should you attack me and my friend here we'll have no choice but to kill you.'' Kenji said with authority.
Before any side could say anything Shisui sensed a presence behind him and turned around to see a larger group of samurai blocking their rear and looking around he notices that in a split-second they were completely surrounded by samurai. This would go unnoticed by Kenji and soon the two shinobi had no room to escape. Kenji only smirked to himself as he had the chance to take on multiple samurai and taking on many at once would be no problem to him because during the third war he slaughtered an entire platoon of Iwa shinobi, so what would slow, clunky samurai in heavy armor gonna do to him?
Just as he drew his swords he noticed the samurai in front of him stepping to the side and he wondered what they were doing. He also noticed that they put their katanas away and soon he got the answer to that when he saw a man wrapped in bandages and a kimono over his bandages. Kenji and Shisui could see that his skin was charred horribly under the bandages and the sight make Kenji cringe at how messed the man look. Even though the only way he could see his skin was through the opening where his eyes were it was a grotesque sight indeed.
The man simply drew his katana and held it beside him and the one thing the two ninjas noticed was that it appeared to be serrated. It was an intimidating looking katana indeed and his presence filled the air and from what Kenji can sense it was dread, evil and tragedy. His chakra came off as foul as well and full of hatred which made both of them uncomfortable. What Kenji failed to notice however was that Shisui nodded at the bandaged man and it was only then the bandaged man spoke.
''You seem ready to stand up to me Konoha Jonin, you think you can defeat me?'' spoke the bandaged samurai in a very deep, menacing voice.
''You're damn right I'm ready to stand up to you, tell me what are your intentions in fire country? You and the other samurai are trespassing.'' Kenji said bravely.
The bandaged man just let out a laugh while his samurai do the same. The laughing was so loud that despite the rain becoming heavier by the minute it overpowered the sound of the thunderstorm making Kenji even more uncomfortable.
''This guy, I swear his chakra is really hateful.'' Kenji thought.
The bandaged samurai ceased his laughter and looked at Kenji once more, ''And, so what will you do if my intention is to see if you and your friend there have a place in my ideal world.''
This took Kenji by surprise, ''Huh? What are you talking about?''
The samurai then used his other hand and began to caress his katana's serrated edges, slowly dragging his fingers against the steel.
''My ideal world is one where only the strong inhabit. If you're strong you live, if you're weak you die plain and simple. I want to see if you two could be a part of that and since you are wondering what our intentions are, I want to test you out to see if you belong in the world I plan on creating. Uchiha were responsible for the Kyuubi's attack as well so how does that make you feel boys?''
The man then pointed his katana at Shisui. ''You there, Uchiha. Step forward and fight me, unless you want to try to run away and live because the power I can sense from you is weak you can't even call it power You're nothing more than an ant I will step on.''
Kenji quickly turned to face Shisui and before he could say anything the riled up Uchiha charged forth with his tanto in hand ready to engage the samurai warrior.
''Shisui wait what are you doing?!'' Kenji screamed.
Shisui charged toward the man who only stood his ground and just as the samurai expected Shisui used the shunshin technique and suddenly appeared in front of the samurai but what Kenji saw made him stare in shock and his eyes widened at what happened. Shisui made a fatal mistake when he teleported in front of the samurai but when he did that the samurai had his katana ready and as soon as the Uchiha appeared in front of him he thrusts his katana outward impaling Shisui in the gut.
''SHISUI NO!''
Kenji could only watch in horror as the samurai raises his sword high with Shisui still on it and just smirks sadistically as Shisui gasps in pain from the blade being in his body. The samurai then simply swings his katana in a way that sends Shisui flying toward Kenji and the Uchiha boy lands on the ground with a hard thud. Putting his swords aside Kenji quickly darts over to the mortally wounded Shisui and kneels down beside him.
''What the fuck are you thinking!? How could you get riled up like that that is not you!'' cried Kenji.
Shisui coughed up blood and only let out small laughter at seeing his friend getting worked up. ''Speak for yourself Kenji, you're getting worked up right now.'' he said weakly.
The blood that came from Shisui's mouth hitting the grass and slowly being washed away from the growing rainstorm. Kenji heard the bandaged man taunt him and that truly was getting him riled up. Putting a bandage on Shisui's wound he gives the Uchiha some painkillers and grabbing his swords he stands tall ready to face the samurai man.
''Don't make a mistake like me man.'' Shisui said between coughs as he holds the bandage with great pressure over the wound.
Kenji said no word as he took a few steps toward the man and sensing the challenge the samurai leader orders his men to step back and let the Jonin duel him.
''You're friend was so weak I disposed of him easily, like the piece of trash he is.'' spat the samurai.
The samurai's tactic of getting his opponents riled up worked as Kenji came charging at him with his ninjatos ready to cut the man to pieces and the experienced samurai had no problem in blocking Kenji's futile swings. Kenji would attempt to do a horizontal attack but the bandaged man swung his serrated katana downward with so much force the sword practically knocked Kenji's ninjato out of his grip leaving him temporarily weaponless and taking advantage of this the bandaged man grabbed Kenji and pulled him in close.
''Fuck!" Kenji thought as the samurai positioned his katana horizontally in front of his face.
''You're a lot weaker than your pathetic friend there you think novice moves like that is going to beat me?''
Kenji had no time to react when the samurai delivered a hard knee to the gut completely knocking the wind out of him and he doubles over in pain gagging and coughing from such a powerful blow. Kenji felt the man reach into his kunai holster and before he could fight off the samurai he looked up and did not see or have enough time to react to the next attack.
Without mercy the samurai then jammed the kunai he took from Kenji right into his right eye and the Jonin screamed loudly in unimaginable pain, a pain he had never felt before and it was so great he almost screamed hysterically at the feeling. He continued to scream as the samurai pulled the eye right out of the socket with his hand leaving the Jonin reeling in extreme pain.
''Agh! My eye!'' Kenji screamed holding his bleeding socket.
''Kenji!" Shisui shouted.
Despite the pain he was in Shisui got up and made his way over to Kenji only to fall over in pain. Having released the bandages covering his wound he began to bleed out once more before scooping up the bandages and applying pressure to his wound again. The samurai mentally laughed at how feeble the shinobi were and he only did a few moves on them and reduced them to squirming messes it was really amusing to see shinobi in pain. Especially after what Kumo did the Iron country seeing shinobi suffering and in great pain like this was almost arousing to him.
Much like Shisui, the pain Kenji was in did stun him but summoning the courage and his fighting spirit he scoops up his ninjatos and goes to face the samurai again only to receive a laugh from the man. The laugh wasn't one that taunted him however, it was a laugh of amusement. The sight of the one-eyed Kenji was a good thing to him as well as it showed his ability to never quit in the most adverse situations.
''I admire your fighting spirit young man, seems like you are strong and a perfect fit for my ideal world. Even with one eye missing you are still willing to put up more resistance against me.''
The samurai further taunts Kenji by holding out his right eye in his palm and slowly balls his hand into a fist. The sound of the visual organ crushing in his palm made Kenji cringe and feel so much anger he could only watch as the man then drops the crushed ball of blood and goop onto the ground.
''You see what eye did there?'' the samurai said mockingly.
He was too busy into his cackling that he didn't realize Kenji charging him once again and the younger man goes for a horizontal swing with his ninjatos and manages to slice into the man's bandages where his chest was. It was only the fact that he sucked his stomach in he avoided being disemboweled by Kenji and with his charred chest now exposed he responds to Kenji's flurry of attacks with precise and powerful blocks.
Shisui could only watch as the men duke it out and even though he was trying his hardest to stop the bleeding the wound just wouldn't stop and he began to feel weaker and weaker with each passing minute until he eventually passed out. Even though his friend lost an eye he was still able to keep up with the samurai and the samurai himself was thinking Kenji as one of the stronger ninjas he ever fought and he found his finding spirit admirable.
Kenji and the man jump back from each other and the Jonin realized he won't be able to beat the man in kenjutsu. He clenches his right eye socket in pain and thought that if he can't land a blow on him with his own weapons maybe he can...
Kenji simply dashes toward the other man and the samurai grins to himself before dashing toward his opponent. The samurai points his katana outward to impale Kenji through the face and just as the two men come closer to each other Kenji forms a rasengan in his left hand. The samurai mentally laughed at the ninja's futile attempts to harm him as he has seen that jutsu before with Minato. As the two men come closer to each other Kenji uses his good eye by moving his head slightly to he can get a good look at the katana and just as it comes close to skewering his eye he maneuvers himself out of the way and now that he was positioned next to his opponent's sword wielding arm he shoves the rasengan into his forearm causing it to shoot upward and the samurai stabs himself in the upper torso.
The samurai was caught completely off guard and only stood there in shock as he watched the blood drip from his wound. His henchmen surrounding him also gaping in awe at the feat the ninja before them just did. Seeing the current state the samurai were all in Kenji took the chance to summon over a hundred shadow clones to battle the samurai before scooping up the unconscious Shisui. Taking several dozen smoke bombs from his pouch he tosses them on the ground, the samurai soon becoming busy engaging the clones but their leader was still in shock and only watched as Kenji left the area with his friend in hand.
Slowly withdrawing the blade from his torso he only let out an evil laugh that drowned out the sounds of battle around him.
''Impressive, this kid surely deserves a place in my world.''
-Forests outside Konoha-
It felt like forever, it really did and despite the injuries he had sustained earlier in regards to losing his eye Kenji used all the energy he had left to try and make it back to Konoha in one piece and bring Shisui home to Mako like he did many times before. Ever since he left the area near Ame Shisui had remained unconscious from the blood loss and even then he could feel a faint heart beat after palpating him. He had also managed to tend to his wounded and missing right eye with gauze. Soon he saw the entrance to Konoha in the distance, a good mile or so away Kenji landed on the ground with Shisui still on his back and he began to stir awake.
Kenji felt relieved and before he could say anything he swore he heard Shisui trying to talk.
''Y-you're not gonna make it in time dude.'' the Uchiha said weakly.
''What are you talking about bro? You're getting home and you're gonna be back in Mako's arms like always you got it? Don't give up yet! This wound ain't nothing!'' Kenji protested picking up the pace.
Shisui then begs Kenji to stop and when he looked down he noticed blood slowly seeping out from where Shisui had his wound resting against his back. He did not notice it but while the bleeding was slowed down it was still occurring since they left the area and even Shisui knew that it would be too late if they got him to the hospital for treatment. The only reason why Kenji never noticed the bleeding was still going on was the rainstorm had become even more heavy washing any evidence of blood off of Shisui's body.
''Just set me up against tree because you're seriously not going to make it in time.'' Shisui whispered.
Kenji did what his friend told him and setting him against a tree he noticed the rain had loosened up the bandages quite a bit during the trek home and he was bleeding even more now. Despite knowing his friend might not make Kenji still wanted to at least try to get him home but Shisui was having none of that.
''Don't give up Shisui, I'll never give up on you!'' Kenji protested, he tries to pick up his friend but Shisui just swats the hand away.
''No use, I'm a goner man..''
He really didn't want to say it, but Shisui was right and tears began to form in Kenji's eyes but he still went on to try to keep up his tough guy composure.
''No way, c'mon we're going..''
Shisui closed his eyes and took in several deep breaths, ''Look, the bleeding won't stop at all..just get your ass home.''
Kenji knew it, he was taking his last breaths but he was never going to admit that he was going to lose Shisui right here. He got down on his knees and began to punch the wet ground.
''We should've left as soon as that mummy motherfucker showed up...it was my decision to stay and fight.'' screamed the young man who was now covered in mud.
Shisui let out a weak laugh at his teammate and friend. Kenji did not notice it but Shisui reached for his right eye and using a medical jutsu he takes out the optical organ and holds his hand out to his friend who notices the gesture.
''W-what are you doing?'' a tearful Kenji asked.
''Here, take this. I never got anything for your birthday a couple months ago so here it is, a belated birthday gift man.''
Shisui moved his hand closer and Kenji then saw what it was.
''Your sharingan?''
''Just take it, you don't want to live the rest of your life as a pirate right? So here, have it.''
''But...why? Why are you giving it to me? It's my own damn fault we're in this position.'' sobbed Kenji.
Shisui smiled tenderly at his friend and looked him in the eye. ''I want you to have this, because I believe you can master the power it will give you.''
Hearing that made a small smile form on Kenji's face and he nodded letting Shisui know that it was okay to plant the eye in his socket. After a few minutes Kenji felt the vision in right eye restore and now he was able to see again like he did before the samurai gauged his eye out and Shisui mentally chuckled at his friend possessing two different eye colors. He let out one last cough as the blood continued to drain from his body and he felt his life slowly drain away.
''It suits you well buddy...just like..just like with your parents promise you'll keep fighting Mako-chan, get at least one win against her...and...never change your dreams.''
Kenji watched as Shisui closed his eye and his breathing stop and knew his friend was now gone and the Kasugano boy was left a crying, sobbing mess as the rainstorm intensified and he screamed at the top of his lungs as the thunder intensifies.
-Konoha General Hospital-
Mako Uchiha was seen walking around the village to conclude her rounds for work that day and usually she would conclude it by walking to the hospital to meet up with Rin, Kurenai, Yugao and Anko before heading out for dumplings. Still in her uniform she notices a crowd of shinobi gathering on the sidewalk in front of the hospital and notices that among the crowd were her female friends as well as Kakashi, Might Guy and Asuma.
''What is going on?''
Mako then jogged over to the scene and when she pushed her way through the crowd and when she reached the front her heart instantly broke at what she saw. On the ground covered in a pool of his own blood was Shisui Uchiha, her lover and her other half. Seeing Shisui's corpse on the ground caused her to freeze.
She took her wolf mask off and began to cry slowly before she finally exploded.
''Shisui-kun!'' she cried out.
Seeing Mako begin to cry Rin and Yugao ran to Mako and enveloped her in a hug.
''What the fuck did Kenji get them into? That idiot.'' Kakashi said condescendingly.
''How unyouthful..'' Guy said with sadness in his voice.
''Mako don't look.'' Rin said.
''Mako please don't look.'' Yugao whispered.
Mako broke free from Rin and Yugao's grasps and dashed toward the body and hugged his body.
''M-My love, my love, Shisui-kun...'' Mako got out between sobs.
Mako began to cry so powerfully now that even her fellow shinobi began to feel tears as well. Soon medical-nin came by and took the body into the hospital and when Mako finally calmed down she watched as the medics took Shisui into the hospital. Even though she calmed down she still let her tears fall and she realized she was crying so hard she forgot about someone. She turned to look at Yugao, Rin, Kurenai and Anko. The one thing Mako did notice was his right eye was missing.
''W-where is Kenji?'' she asked, almost whispering the question.
The other girls just looked at each other and all responded with a no.
''We...we don't know.'' said the girls.
As the crowd dispersed they all failed to notice a figure hiding several buildings away and the figure was revealed to be Kenji who had bloodshot eyes and was watching Mako crying her heart out. Without saying or doing anything he takes off for the main gate and noticing the figure Mako looks in the direction Kenji took off.
-Konoha Main Gate-
Kenji made his way to the main gate and did not look back, he continued on until he walked past the guard post and thankfully the eternal gate guards, Kotetsu and Izumo were napping. However, for the first time since he left Shisui at the hospital grounds he took his headband and vest off and looked at them. Without saying a word he drops it on the ground and runs out of the village for a few steps before turning back to look at Konoha one last time. He did not want to face Mako for Shisui's death as he felt responsible for it, he couldn't bear to see her cry for him anymore as he was afraid she would lash out at him.
''Would she hear me if I called her name? Would she hold me if she knew my shame? I can't face you after what happened so thanks for everything my friend. I'll miss our rivalry.''
The view then focuses on his right eye which was originally Shisui's. He blinks once and it turns into his friend's sharingan before morphing into it's mangekyo form. He then turns and continues running away from the village not wanting to look back.
Several minutes later...
Mako landed at the main gate and immediately the first thing she saw was Kenji's headband and vest soaked to the bone on the ground. She picks them close to her before looking out toward the forests outside the village. She was too late to stop him from leaving and knowing she might never see him again her tears again began to slowly fall out her eyes as she stood there in the rain looking at the direction he went in.
''Come back...''
Her conscience was calling the guilty Kenji to come home, but she knew that wouldn't happen...
-Massive Volcano, unknown nation-
The bandaged samurai who had battled it out earlier with Kenji and Shisui was seen waiting in a huge room that was located in the crater of a volcano in some country far away from the five nations and he was seen looking over the wound Kenji had inflicted on him. Despite feeling embarrassed about the injury he was quite happy as the younger male proved to be a good fighter and he will allow him to live when he declares the fourth shinobi world war against the shinobi class. He finishes looking at the wound and when he began to clean his katana he heard the door to the room open and in walked a figure with a mask on.
''There you are, everything worked out well? They all think you're dead?'' asked the samurai.
The figure walks toward him and soon he takes his mask off and it was revealed to be Shisui Uchiha who had somehow survived the encounter though he was still missing his right eye after giving it to Kenji with his headband and vest missing as well.
''Yes Lord Shishio, the genjutsu I put on my friend and girlfriend worked really well. From what I observed they really fell for it and were clouded by their emotions that they didn't notice something was up. As of now Shisui Uchiha has been killed in action.'' Shisui said with a bow.
Shishio acknowledged the former Konoha Jonin's response.
''Good work, let's get our plan started. Let's see if the great nations have what it takes to overcome their hatred of each other because if they don't they will fall.''
''I agree with your logic because all this fighting between us needs to stop. Let's start Lord Shishio.''
The two then leave the volcano to begin Shishio's plan for a fourth war and it would not be for another 9 years before it would finally come into play...
Yeah I get it, the chapter might not be that great to some but oh well, at least it gives you more depth on what happened on what Kenji called ''A Fateful day''
