Nanashi had saved the world, and was now trying to enjoy a peacful life, but the multiverse had other plans. In a new world that rivals his own in strangeness what path will the Messiah/Godslayer choose to walk? Rated M because Shin Megami Tensei and I feel like it.

5. Chapter 5

Making his way home with his friends, Nanashi gets the unmistakable feeling that they're being watched. Freezing, Nanashi holds a finger to his lips as his friends turn to see why he stopped. Carefully removing and setting down his backpack, Nanashi turns to survey the area, senses pushed to detect anything out of the ordinary.

After a few seconds of waiting, Nanashi hears the faint rustle of cloth and sees a tiny movement in the shadows. Nanashi stares directly at the source of the movement, gaze intense and unblinking as he speaks, "I suggest you show yourself now, before I force you to reveal yourself."

Stepping out of the shadows comes a small girl, seemingly only slightly younger than Nanashi and his friends, who smiles, "Well, you're quite perceptive, Master." Nanashi's face splits into a grin, "While I appreciate the attempt to keep things familiar, it might be for the best if you stopped calling me that in this world, Toki."

Frowning, the girl nods, "As you wish, Nanashi." Waving her over to join the group, Nanashi grabs his bag and goes to continue walking, "Come on, we've got a lot to discuss."

As the group continues along the path, Nanashi notices something about Toki and points it out, "Hey, Toki. I noticed you're wearing the uniform of our middle school, why didn't you approach us earlier in the year?"

Toki shakes her head, "I just moved here, so I couldn't contact you guys until I was sure you were here as well." Turning to look at the other three in the group, Toki allows a small smile, "It's nice to see you three again, even you Asahi."

Asahi pouts, "That's rude Toki, I thought we were friends!"

Giggling, the shorter girl smirks at Asahi, "We are, Asahi, it's just a joke."

Blinking, Asahi takes a moment to respond, "Oh… it's hard to tell with you sometimes."

With a mischievous grin, Toki leans in, "I'll just have to keep that in mind."

As the old friends walk and talk, Nanashi smiles, happy to have another of his friends back.

A/N: Fairly short chapter this time around to get Toki into the story. I'm thinking next chapter is going to be a bit of a training montage before a time skip to the entrance exams. See ya around
