She was having one of those days again. They called it 'sensory overload', something like that.

She didn't understand what those words meant, but she knew how it felt. She was feeling it right now.

It was horrible.

Any sounds hurt her ears when she was going through this.

Why couldn't she just be normal? She was too human, but somehow not human enough.

But somehow, she started feeling a twinge of peace. Look where she was now, after everything that happened.

A small room where she could relax all day. She could hear the birds chirping softly outside, the rustling of the wind...

She stared at her arms. Torn, ripped, scarred. Elise said they looked beautiful.

She didn't share the same sentiment.

But that didn't matter, she really was happy. This island smelled better too. The scent of death and deceit lingered on the air, but it wasn't anywhere near as strong compared to her old home.

Her old home...

She had remembered a few things a while ago. The things that broke her originally.

She had a good childhood for the most part, Father loved her, played with her. She remembered laying in her bed and staring at the stars, holding her soft little bear close to her beating heart. She remembered Father holding her close to his chest, usually after a scary dream. He hummed an old song to her, and she could still remember it. Sometimes she still hummed it.

But she also remembered when he stayed out late. Came home tired, aggressive, stomping down to the scary dark room in the part of the house she wasn't supposed to go.

On one of those nights, after she heard him snoring from his own room. She sneaked off to the door to find it open, the lights still on. She held her blankie and her bear close and she tip-toed down the staircase.

Then she saw it. Or him, rather.

It's all so fuzzy now, her brain blocks it out still. She remembers enough though. She remembers the smell, the blood, the chains. She remembers turning around and seeing Father looking at her with an expression she still can't understand.

She can't remember much else though. But that's fine. Father is gone, he's been gone for a long time. She has a family now.

Tacet is happy.
