Snape stumbled to the ground, baring the pain, capitulating to the end of Voldemort's wand.
"So, Severus." The hissing voice echoed throughout the empty room, "Getting friendly with your students, I hear."
"Of course not, My Lord." Snape's voice portrayed the neutral tone he had so long practiced.
"Don't lie to me, Severus. Your aura tells me otherwise." Snape's eyes widened for the shortest moment.
"She's a Slytherin, My Lord. A pure blood. Susanna and Brian's daughter." Snape clung to his neutral tone.
"If anyone finds out about your loyalty to me, Severus, you both better hope you were never born."
"My Lord…"
"Crucio!" The high hiss echoed throughout the building, accompanied by screams of excruciating pain.

Hannah shot up, awoken, her face covered in sweat, her light on. The sight of Snape at her door calmed her heavy heart beat, as she lowered herself back onto the mattress.

That morning, Fred and George stood against the wall, their arms folded, smug smiles spread across their faces. Harry, Ron, and Hermione approached them, Hermione looking unimpressed. "Was that you guys that did that to Umbridge?" Ron asked, eagerly.
"It wasn't even our idea, mate." Fred's smile widened.
"You'd never guess whose idea it was." George teased the trio.
"Whosever idea it was, Fred and George, they're going to end up getting expelled, just like you two." Hermione scolded, folding her arms.
"Ah, but she's still brilliant." Fred rested his hand on George's shoulder.
"She?" Hermione's face gave a quizzical expression.
"Yes, she. She also happens to be a Slytherin." George's smile continued to broaden. A bark of laughter emitted from Harry.
"That Hannah girl? I have detention with her every night. She gives Umbridge a lot of crap. Hilarious, really." Hermione and Ron turned to Harry, looking confused.
"Don't look so shocked, you two, that's not even the worst of it. She's dead genius at potions, and even taught us wandless magic." Fred set a nearby bench on fire with his hand, then extinguished it, to prove his point.
"And she made Umbridge run out of class, screaming, without even doing or saying anything!" George added.
"Legilimency?" Hermione turned to her friends, to see it was their turn to look confused. "You know, like reading minds, viewing their memories, invading minds. She was probably doing Legilimency. It's highly dangerous magic, not something that's taught."
"What, so we should be afraid of her?" Fred laughed aloud.
"Well, I wouldn't put it past her to be dangerous. Although any dangerous Slytherin probably wouldn't interact with Gryffindors willingly. She does seem quite odd, she's the only Slytherin girl that I've really seen in the library." Hermione lectured.
"You were acting as if you didn't know who we were talking about 2 minutes ago." Harry argued.
"Yes, well, she just seems so introverted, I couldn't really believe that she'd be one to interact with the two most extroverted students in the school."
"And the most hated Gryffindor in Slytherin's eyes." Ron added, nodding towards Harry.
"Yes, that too. I think someone like her might prove useful in the future, though. Especially if we want Umbridge out of here." Hermione dropped her voice to a low whisper.
"She did tell us that if we want more Slytherin's to hate Umbridge, then we'll have to get Umbridge to insult them directly." George responded.
"Plausible Hypothesis." The bell for first period sounded as Hermione spoke. "Well, good luck with that." Hermione finished, as they separated ways to class.

That afternoon in Defence Against the Dark Arts, Umbridge appeared to have no recollection of the day before, thankfully. Although she looked a bit put out, possibly from the glares she had been receiving all day, she still had her sour attitude. "Today, you won't be working with your friends. I'll separate everybody into same gender pairs, and you will answer questions 1-50 on page 455" She slowly trotted up and down the aisle of each desk, analysing her students. "Mr Weasley (Fred), and Mr Warrington, Mr Weasley (George) and Mr Pucey, Miss Byron and Miss Mariana…" She continued to pair the students, as each pair moved together. Shinayd Mariana, another Slytherin, sat next to Hannah. She recognized her as one of the more popular Slytherin's. Hannah turned around to see Fred looking at her, then gesturing toward Shinayd. Hannah nodded in understanding. Hannah slid her wand out from her sleeve and pointed it at the toad-like woman from under her desk.

Umbridge's expression changed for the slightest second, before resuming her normal irritated guise. Shinayd, next to Hannah, was unaware of any cast spells, and her head remained ducked to her work. Umbridge made her way to their desk, then stood directly next the Shinayd, before bending down and whispering something in her ear, the only coherent word from Hannah's position was "Bitch." Shinayd turned around to face Umbridge, looking furious. "Fuck you!" she screamed, before storming out of the room. Hannah lowered her wand, then turned to Fred and George, who winked.

"I bet you're wondering," Dumbledore's voice echoed throughout the hall, "Why you were all questioned on your arrival." Murmurs emitted from several students in the hall. "I have gathered you all here, as I have recently received an owl from the Ministry." Fred and George looked nervously over to the Slytherin table, where Hannah was trying to look uninterested. "I have been informed, that an unforgivable curse was used in this castle this afternoon. I can safely determine that everybody in this castle is in fact not under the Imperius curse, although, I must inform you that these curses are called unforgivable for a reason. The use of an unforgivable will not just result in expulsion, but imprisonment, for those over the age of 17." His eyes drifted over all of the house tables, and quite obviously longer on the Slytherin table. "As I hope there is no true threat within this castle, I will allow this one incident to pass by, unless someone has any information from the event." Students looked suspicious at other students around the hall. "Now I believe I have kept you from your meal long enough." Dumbledore then conjured the usual dinner food onto the tables, before leaving the hall.

Hannah arrived back into Snape's quarters after detention, as usual. "I don't suppose that had anything to do with you, again, Miss Byron?" Snape's voice seemed even less emotionless as usual.
"I wouldn't lie to you, sir." Hannah admitted.
"Who did you Imperius?" His voice became more and more serious.
"Umbridge."
"Why?"
"Sir?" Snape glared at Hannah, hinting to continue. "Why don't you just use Legilimency on me?"
"You occlumency shields are up, and I wouldn't without your consent."
"Explain occlumency?" Hannah felt guilty for changing the conversation, but felt it a convenient way to lead to her recent concerns.
"A shield for your thoughts, memories, and emotions." Snape answered with little detail.
"And how do you achieve the shield?"
"Controlling your emotions."
"Are you good at occlumency?"
"Reasonably."
"Then why can I use Legilimency on you?" Snape's eyes looked at nothing in the distance.
"I don't know." His focus still elsewhere.
"I had a dream last night, sir, about Voldemort using Legilimency on you, finding out that you told me about being a Death Eater. That's also where I learnt the unforgivable curses from." Hannah looked worriedly at Snape.
"Who was Imperiused in the dream?" Snape's focus was now back on Hannah.
"You, sir."
"That's not possible, I can resist the Imperius curse."
"Just like you can supposedly resist Legilimency?" Snape's eyes shifted out of focus again. "I just thought, sir, that you should work on occlumency again. I'd hate for that dream to come true." Snape refocused on Hannah. "And I Imperiused Umbridge to insult Shinayd. I figured that her directly insulting a popular Slytherin student would affect how the majority of the Slytherin body viewed her. The more people against her, the less authority she feels she has, I figured."
"Again, an admirable act, although you can't just go throwing unforgivable curses around. The consequences are severe." Snape's eyes were now fully back into focus, obviously back from overthinking.
"I hardly care about my own consequences, sir. I think you know that."
"But I do." Snape looked taken aback for a moment at his own words, but allowed eye contact with Hannah to let the message sink in.
"I'll avoid getting arrested in the future, then. I'm going to go to bed." Hannah made her way over to her room.
"Miss Byron?" Snape hesitated.
"Mhmm?"
"I'd like to discuss occlumency with you on the weekend." He reluctantly voiced. Hannah nodded in response, before heading off to her room, hoping for a dreamless sleep.
