The State Verses Derek Morgan Ch 25
As Fran sat by her sons beside she took his free hand into hers and looked at it, there weren't any scratches, any cuts, anything that showed that he fought back, why didn't he have scratches, why didn't he fight back?", she looked at her sons face and then looked up at Dave, Hotch and said, "why didn't he fight back, why did he let them do this to him, why?", Dave said, 'Bella the only person that can answer that is him".
Mia walked up the hall and stopped to talk to the guards that had come while she was gone to make her call, she said, "under no circumstances do you let anybody into this room that isn't a doctor, nurse, me, Aaron or his family, is that understood?", the guards nodded their heads and said, "yes mam".
As she pushed the door open and stepped inside she heard Fran said, "why, why Dave?", Dave said, "when he wakes up and is able to talk about it we'll ask him Bella but until then we would only be guessing". Mia said, "what have I missed?", Hotch said, "Derek has no defensive wounds on his hands, which means he didn't try to fight the people that were attacking him".
Derek and then back up at the others as Hotch said, "were you able to get him moved into isolation once he gets back to the jail?", she nodded her head and said, "I was and until he gets released to go back to jail he'll be cuffed to the bed and have security guards outside the door like they are now".
Fran said, "there are guards out there now, they weren't when we came in earlier", Mia said, "they're there now and I gave them their instructions that nobody but doctors, nurses, the four of us and the rest of your team are allowed in here". Dave said, "thank you", Mia said, "right now he needs time to heal, from what I'm hearing, he's going to be lucky to get back to jail before his trial starts", Fran nodded her head and said, "he's wounds were very serious and we almost lost him, I can't lose anybody else, I can't" as she buried her face in her hands.
Dave wrapped his arms around her and said, "he's your son Fran, he's a fighter, he's stubborn, he's not going to go anywhere", Fran said, "but he didn't fight back Dave, he let them beat him, he let them stab him multiple times and he almost died". Dave said, "but he didn't Bella, he didn't, he's here, he's right there" as Dave pointed to the bed, Fran blew out a deep breath and said, "JJ and Emily made Penelope's funeral arrangements today so her viewing is tomorrow and then her funeral is the day after that".
Hotch said, "even if he was able Derek wouldn't be able to go", Mia said, "it may be a blessing that he's here in the hospital", Fran said, "he's so lost right now, my poor baby boy, he lost the love of his life and was blamed for her murder". Hotch said, "I swear to you Fran, we will prove him innocent, we will get him out of here", Fran said, "I know that you will do everything that you can Aaron but there are no guarantees, right?", Hotch shook his head and said, "no, no there isn't but we will do everything in our power to do it".
Fran weakly smiled at him and said, "I know Aaron, I know", the four of them then sat down in the seats around Derek's bed and watched him as he slept, he'd been through so much over the past few days and he's finally sleeping, he's finally resting. Dave intertwined fingers with his wife as she said, "sleep baby boy because when you wake up we're going to have a little talk and you're going to tell me why you didn't fight back, why you let them do this to you".
Tears streamed down her face as she looked at his bruised face, it was beaten black and blue, those wounds would heal but the wound to his heart at the loss of his baby girl, well that will take more time, but hopefully with time he'll adjust to life without her". They were pulled from their conversation when Derek said, "never momma, I'll never get adjusted to life without baby girl, not now, not ever".
