The State Verses Derek Morgan-Ch 30
After going home and checking on their sons, JJ, Reid, Emily and Hotch got dressed and headed out to the funeral home for what was going to be one of the hardest nights they had ever faced as a family. Dave, Fran and the girls got dressed and headed out, they wanted to pay their respects for Penelope, they wanted to be there because they loved her and they loved Derek and it was breaking all of their hearts that he couldn't be there when they all knew that's all he wanted.
As they climbed out of their car and made their way to the front door Desi stopped and said, "momma, wait", Fran turned around and said, "what's wrong baby?", she said, "momma, I can't, I can't go in there and see her like that, she was like, well she was like my sister", Fran pulled her daughter into her arms and said, "I know how you feel honey, I do, it's killing all of us to have to do this when she should actually be alive living life to the fullest".
Desi looked at her mother, her eyes were so red and swollen from where she'd cried so much, all of their eyes were, that just went to show what an amazing person Penelope was and how many lives she'd touched. Fran said, "you can do this baby, do this for her, do this for Penelope and do it for your brother", Sarah took her sister by the hand and said, "we'll do this together Desi, okay", with tears streaming down the sisters faces they nodded their heads yes and then started slowly making their way inside.
Hotch wasn't surprised at all to see Shane standing beside Reid and JJ, Reid looked at Hotch and sad, "I couldn't not let him come, not let him pay his respects to Penelope", Hotch said, "it's okay Spencer, he needs to see her and to mourn for her, it's really okay". Shane said, "how's Derek?", Hotch shook his head and said, "not good, he got so upset about Penelope that the doctors had to sedate him to keep him from ripping his stitches open".
Shane said, "I wish there was something more that I could do", Dave walked over and said, "son, you're doing everything that you can possibly do and that's all we or anybody else could ever ask of you". Shane said, "thank you, but still I wish that I could do more", Reid said, "don't worry, this is far from over, we still need to find the twins and get them to confess so that Derek can be freed and justice will prevail for Garcia".
The team looked around to see Kevin and several other members of the FBI walking through the door, Kevin said, "I won't bother anybody, I just wanted to pay my respects to Penelope". Dave said, "son you're not bothering anybody, you have every right to be here, you loved her too and you should be here paying your respects to the woman you once loved", Kevin nodded his head and said, "thank you agent Rossi" as he walked over and sat down in a chair.
JJ and Emily looked at each other, both ready to start crying again, Emily said, "I swear I didn't think I could cry anymore but" as the tears streamed down her face she said, "I was wrong", JJ hugged her and said, "it's okay Em, it's okay" and together the two women cried tears for their friend, their sister, their best friends as their hearts and minds tried to wrap around the fact that she was gone and she was never ever coming back.
As the funeral home filled up with people Fran couldn't help but think about her son, he wanted to be here with them, he wanted to be able to pay his respects to his baby girl but couldn't and as she sat there listening to the other people talking about what an amazing person she was not one person there believed that Derek could ever or would ever hurt Penelope and that and that alone made Fran Morgan Rossi smile.
Over the next couple of hours the team listened as person after person told about Penelope's kindness and how much they were going to miss her, it was obvious that she would be missed by everybody that she worked with and cared for in her grief counseling. At the end of the night everybody headed home to get some rest, well everybody but Fran Morgan and Aaron Hotchner who decided to relieve Mia so she could go home and get some sleep.
When it was just Fran and Hotch watching Derek sleep Fran looked at him and said, "do you think we'll ever get justice for Penelope and my son?", he nodded his head and said, "I do, we will and the people that did this will pay Fran, they will pay and that's a promise, that's a promise" as their attention then turned back to the sleeping broken hearted Derek Michael Morgan.
