The State Verses Derek Morgan Ch 32
Hotch opened his eyes the next morning and instantly remembered what today was, it was the day they were to bury the heart and soul of their team, their all seeing all knowing oracle, Penelope Grace Garcia. He threw the covers back, got up, grabbed his clothes and headed through to go ahead and take his shower, he wanted to be ready so that he could spend some time with Jack before they headed to the funeral home.
When he walked out of the bathroom he heard crying coming from the bedroom, he walked out and saw Emily with her face buried in her hands, he walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her from behind and said, "let it out Em, let it all out". Emily turned in his arms and completely broke down, she kept saying over and over, "she can't be gone, she can't be gone, this can't be real, please tell me this isn't real".
He kissed the top of her head and said, "I can't Em, I can't tell you that because she's, she's gone", Emily shook her head and said, "she was so full of life that night and when we saw her and Derek kissing on the dance floor I just knew that the next morning we were going to be told that they were together but what did we hear instead, we heard of her being killed and Derek supposedly doing it".
Emily looked up at him and said, "why did this happen Aaron, why did somebody do this to them, they deserved to be happy, if anybody did it was the two of them", he nodded his head and said, "I agree Em, I agree". As he stood there holding her tears were threatening to fall, he couldn't do this now, he couldn't break down, not here, not now, late yes, but here and now, no, now was the time for him to be strong for his wife.
After being held in her husbands arms for a few minutes she pulled back and said, "thank you", he winked at her and said, "any time beautiful, any time" as he wiped away the tears that were sliding down her cheeks. She sighed and said, "I better get my shower", he said, "you go do that and I'm going to spend some time with our son", she said, "he's hurting so bad Aaron, he misses her so much", he said, "I know he does".
Emily said, "every night since she died when he says his prayers he asks God to please let his aunt P come back to him and to us, he talks about how much he misses and loves her, it kills me to see him like this Aaron". Hotch rubs his hand up an down her arms and said, "I know it does Em, it does me too, he's such a sweet and innocent little boy and he's so so broken over this but hopefully with time he'll start slowly healing and getting back to the carefree boy he was before all of this happened".
She nodded her head yes and said, "go see our son", he said, "on it", before turning around and walking from the room to leave his wife to her shower so that they could head to the funeral home to meet the others. When he headed down stairs he saw Jack sitting at the table eating his cereal, he looked up to see his daddy and said, "hi daddy", Hotch sat down beside him and said, "good morning buddy, how are you feeling?", he put his spoon down and said, "sad daddy, I miss aunt P".
Hotch said, "I know you do, we all do and we will for the rest of our lives", Jack jumped down from his chair and threw his arms around his father and said, "I love you daddy", he said, "I love you too buddy, I love you too". The two Hotchner men sat talking until Emily came downstairs a few minutes later, dressed and ready to head out, they both hugged and kissed their son and said, "I love you", he waved at them as he stood in the doorway with the nanny.
As they pulled away from the curb Emily said, "he looks so sad", Hotch said, "he misses her so much, it's going to be rough on everybody right now but we'll get through this like we always do, together as a family". Emily nodded her head yes and repeated what he said, "together as a family" as they continued making their way toward the funeral home and the rest of their family.
