The State Verses Derek Morgan Ch 40
While the team was eating lunch JJ had called to check in with Reid, they were still looking for the twins but so far hadn't had any luck, Reid asked how the trial was going and JJ said, "so far so good, whatever the prosecution throws at them Mia and Hotch have been able to make their point".
Reid said, "good, good, please keep us updated", JJ said, "we will Spence", after the call ended Reid walked back over to board where he'd written all of the cases they were examining. Hanging there was a picture of Penelope, he stood there looking at that picture, something was off, something was bugging him but he couldn't put his finger on it.
Lunch time flew by and soon every body was making their way back to the courtroom, the bailiff said, "all rise", everybody stood up and watched as the judge made her way back inside the courtroom. She looked at the prosecution and the defense and said, "are you both ready to continue?, Mia and Scott stood up and said in unison, "we are your honor", Cindy said, "alright Mr. Deskins call your next witness", Scott nodded his head as he called for "the next witness.
Shane looked around and said, "Reid, what's wrong?", Reid looked at him and said, "something's missing, something's off but I can't put my finger on it", Shane said, "I feel the same way, but I can't figure out what I'm missing". Reid shook his head and said, "okay so let's discuss what the officers said when they went to the home of Robert and Robins cousin Charles".
Shane listened as Reid said, "the only people in the house was Charles and his wife Olivia, they immediately agreed to a search in which the officers found nothing and nobody other than the husband and wife". Shane said, "right", Reid said, "something's off though, something is definitely off with his whole scene, if they aren't there, then where are they?", Shane said, "I think they are there, they're just hidden".
Reid said, "hidden, like maybe in a room somewhere that was unknown by the police?", Shane said, "highly possible, I mean the police didn't even know that the twins had any other family besides each other until we gave them the tip". Reid said, "sooooo, maybe they have something like a hidden room or root cellar somewhere?", Shane said, "that could be the case and it it is then how did they know to get hidden when the cops arrived?", the two men looked at each other and sighed.
Reid said, "okay, okay, let's take a step back and regroup", Shane nodded his head and said, "sounds good, sounds good", Reid looked at him and said, "okay, sooooo you knew Garcia when she was underground as the black queen, correct?", Shane said, "correct", Reid said, "so there are things about her that you'd know that we wouldn't", Shane said, "well I guess that's true too".
Shane looked at Reid as he said, "okay, so tell me something about her that we don't know", Shane sat there for a few minutes before he said, "well there was this one time when she got into a fist fight with a woman". Reid said, "fight with a woman, about what?", Shane smiled and said, "me, the woman was flirting with me and Penelope didn't like it", Reid said, "interesting, well then what happened?", Shane said, "Penelope beat the crap out of her and turned to leave".
Reid said, "so that was it?", Shane shook his head and said, "no, Penelope thought span class="il"the fight was over so she turned to leave but that's when the other chick, she went, well Reid she went crazy and smashed a bottle on "the table and cut Penelope". Reid said, "cut her, cut her where?", Shane showed Reid where on him, as he said, "from here to here behind her ear", Reid said, "how bad was it?", Shane said, "it was pretty bad, had to have 6 or 7 stitches, it left a scar too and let me tell you Penelope wasn't happy about that scar either".
Reid looked at Shane and said, "we didn't know anything about a scar behind her ear, which ear was it?", Shane said, "her left ear, why?", Reid said, "hang on, hang on" as he flipped through Penelope's autopsy results. He said, "it's not here, it's not here", Shane said, "what's not there?", Reid looked up at him and said, "there is no scar listed here on these forms", Shane looked at Reid and they said in unison, "do you think?", Reid pulled out his cell and dialed span class="il"the ME's office.
When somebody picked up the phone Reid heard, "this is Tasha", Reid said, "Tasha, this is Spencer Reid here", Tasha said, "hi Spencer, what can I do for you?", he said, "about Penelope's autopsy?", she said, "what about it?", he said, "I have a question", she said, "what's your question?", Reid said, "according to the paperwork I'm looking at there is no mention of a scar behind her left ear".
Tasha pulled the forms out of her file cabinet and started going through Penelope's results, she said, "no, I don't see it either Spencer and now that you mention it I don't remember seeing a scar, maybe I just missed it". Reid said, "well you see span class="il"the/span thing is, we know now that Penelope got into a fight and got scratched with a beer bottle and the cut was deep and she had to have stitches 6 or 7 stitches".
Reid said, "do you think that this is enough to get Penelope's body exhumed?", Tasha said, "it might be, I'm not sure", Reid said, "I've got to contact Hotch, he's at the courthouse", Tasha said, "I'm here if there is anything else I can do". Reid said, "if we can get her body exhumed you can check for i right?", Tasha said, "oh yes, definitely", he smiled and said, "thanks Tasha", she said, "no problem Reid" as the call ended.
Looking down at his watch he realized that lunch was over and that Hotch was back in court, he grabbed his cell and sent a message that said, "CALL ME ASAP WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR NEXT BREAK". He put his cell back on his belt and looked up at Shane as he said, "now what?", Spencer said, "now, now we wait for Hotch to call us back to see what our next move is", Shane nodded his head yes as he went back to looking intothe husband and wife Charles and Olivia
