Elsa ran and ran away from Casita till she couldn't run anymore. She stopped to rest. She sat on the ground by a river. She stared at her reflection in the water. She was frowning and her eyes were full of fear. She wished the person staring back at her was brimming with confidence and happiness. For awhile she had maintained that when she first met Bruno and Mirabel and the rest of the family only to have said emotions diminished and just because she could yet again not control her powers. She hated these powers. Hated them with a passion. She had a chance at being accepted by the Madrigals but she had ruined everything. Elsa huddled her knees together and lowered her head down, sobbing quietly.
Inside of Casita, most of the family had left the kitchen except for Alma, Bruno and Mirabel and Antonio who stayed behind to wash the dishes. Bruno looked over at the damage Elsa had caused then to his mother who was sitting down in a chair, her eyes narrowed down in anger. Bruno sighed then went over to Alma.
"M'ma, Elsa didn't mean to destroy Papi's picture. It was an accident. You saw how ashamed she looked." Bruno finally said.
Alma looked up at Bruno. An angry scowl on her face. The same look she would give him whenever he used to disappoint her and that happened often before. Alma walked up to her son then crossed her arms.
"You should have told us from the very beginning that she had a Gift just as we had, Brunito." Alma said, bitterly.
"We meant to tell you, M'ma." Bruno replied.
"That woman never should have come here at all. I used to think any power was a Gift, a blessing, because it could do so many things. Her powers...they are not special...they are a curse!" Alma argued.
Antonio heard what Alma had said then jumped off the stool. Before Bruno could open his mouth to say anything, Antonio had moved in between them then he looked up at his Abuela...angrily.
"Elsa's powers aren't a curse Abuela! They're really great! Elsa's really nice and if you throw her out, I won't talk to you anymore!" Antonio snapped.
Alma stared back at Antonio in surprise. Antonio then went over to Bruno and grabbed at his leg and looked up at him, smiling a little and eyes shining with hope.
"Elsa can stay with us, right Tio?" Antonio asked.
Bruno looked at his mother then looked down at Antonio. Then he smiled and ruffled Antonio's hair then knelt down then set him on his lap then sighed then nodded.
"Of course she can stay with us, Tonio."
"Bruno..."
Bruno looked up at Alma glaring at him. Bruno had glared back then put Antonio down on the ground then he stood up and went up to his mother. Alma had never seen her son stare at her like this. As if he was almost judging her with his cold-filled eyes.
"M'ma. You see Elsa as a monster to be feared rather than someone who deserves to be trusted. If anyone can understand what Elsa is feeling, it's me. Didn't you always see me as a monster before? You were always one to assume the worst in me and now you're doing the same to Elsa. Don't judge her because of what she can do M'ma. She deserves a second chance, not hatred, and if that's the only emotion you can give back to her...then I can't stand to look at you either."
Bruno had walked away and out of Casita, leaving Alma standing there, a look of shock on her face. Mirabel and Antonio then also left the kitchen while Alma was left alone. She didn't know what to think about what Bruno just said. Could he have been...right?
Meanwhile, Bruno had searched everywhere for Elsa. But it looked like she was nowhere to be found. Bruno was about to give up when he stopped and looked towards the river and could see a distant figure. It was Elsa. Bruno sighed in relief then had walked over towards Elsa. She didn't notice him approaching her, just keeping her back to him. Bruno then noticed that Elsa was crying. Now concerned, Bruno knelt down and then gently touched Elsa's shoulder.
"Elsa?"
Elsa let out a small, startled gasp then looked up and saw Bruno at her side. She sniffled then wiped her eyes and tried to smile but Bruno could tell she was on the verge of tears.
"Bruno. What are you doing here?" Elsa asked.
"I came to look for you. I wanted to make sure if you were alright."
Elsa looked away as tears began to spill down her cheeks. She gripped the dirt and Bruno could see ice beginning to form on her hand. Bruno slowly placed his hand on top of Elsa's.
The same warmth Elsa had felt when Bruno first touched and grabbed her hand had returned and she had relaxed. She looked down at their hands touching then up at Bruno. Why was it she felt calm whenever he was with her? But then she frowned again and shook her head.
"I can't go back there and face everyone again, Bruno. You saw what I'd done." Elsa said, now looking ashamed.
"We did and I think your powers are incredible. Mirabel and Antonio think so too. You are accepted, Elsa."
"How can I be? Your mother doesn't see me as anything but a monster. I thought things would be different here but they aren't. No matter what, people will see me as someone who's a threat." Elsa said, voice breaking.
"Elsa..."
Bruno gently grabbed Elsa's shoulders and she looked up at Bruno. When she looked into his eyes, all she could see was concern and...love. Bruno then smiled and tilted up Elsa's chin.
"I could never see you as a threat." Bruno said, quietly.
"But do you mean that?" Elsa asked, eyeing Bruno skeptically.
Bruno nodded then before Elsa knew it, Bruno drew his lips towards hers. Elsa hesitantly and slowly closed her eyes and soon placed her lips against Bruno's. Heat...no longer warmth had spread through Elsa's veins right then. Elsa moved closer and the two had found themselves...kissing each other. Bruno wrapped his arms around Elsa's waist so that the kiss could deepen and Elsa gave him permission to do so. Elsa placed both her hands against Bruno's face as their lips stayed together. When they pulled apart, they stared at each other.
"Do you believe me now?" Bruno asked.
Elsa kept staring at Bruno. She couldn't believe it. She had been kissed for the first time and it was the most wonderful sensation she'd ever felt and knowing it was Bruno, she also felt something within that kiss...trust and...love. Actual love. Someone who loved her for herself. Bruno wasn't like 'everyone else' and Elsa knew that now. Elsa then smiled and touched Bruno's cheek.
"I do believe you, Bruno. And if you want, I'll stay." Elsa replied.
"I won't let M'ma judge you ever again. I promise." Bruno vowed.
"I don't think any of that matters now cause I know I'll have one person on my side. You."
"And you'll always have me." Bruno added.
Elsa giggled then she and Bruno had shared another kiss as Bruno held his new love close. At Casita, Dolores had seen everything from her window, jaw agape in surprise.
"How am I gonna be able to keep a secret like this?" Dolores asked herself.
With that said, Dolores let out a squeak then returned to her room. Could she really not tell her Abuela and the rest of the family what she'd seen? If she did, would there be consequences for her Tio and Elsa? She hoped not.
