"This could be a trap."

Serin's assumption was not one born out of mere concern- she had many reasons to think this was too good to be true.

Field Master Thela 'Vadamee was recognized by most of the intelligence they had on the Covenant as their best leader- they literally built most of their recent propaganda around her reputation and deeds. Even then, the list was long- almost as long as Logan's own was.

It was still... too simple. The capture, the surrender, the lack of interest to fight back and, worst of all, the request that Thela got granted by Cole on the ground of offering them all the information they needed- to have a one on one session of interrogation with Log. It was clear what she was after, even though she masked it as the Sangheili wanting just to 'talk with the one she respected the most'. The flattery didn't go over Serin's mind, and Log was not oblivious to this either but-

"Maybe. But we need to get this done or we may end up with a longer war. The Covenant is already starting to face internal dissent and the news is cracking more on their society. Getting more stuff out of her could further fasten their downfall and end the war altogether if we play our cards right."

The long-distance exchange was only making Serin more impatient. She wanted to go back to the Planet to help but-

ONI may be soon acting. So, we need someone to keep an eye for surprises on the Ship.

And that was another reason to be outright worried. Captain Hood had been warned too and the man was taking steps to make sure that no 'outsider' was allowed within vital sections of the ship. He couldn't exactly go for a full clean-up, not without spooking any mole on board but... this was already going to unnerve them due to the strange reassignments.

Still, that didn't mean that ONI would try to do anything major on the ship- the real issue was on the planet's surface, right where ONI still had a fair amount of loyal troops that could be moved to cause issues. The garrison holding their VIPs was clean, but it wasn't numerous enough to hold back against a properly-planned assault.

With most of BALMUNG and the Spartans still busy cleaning up the remaining Covenant troublemakers, this was going to be a tense few days until the prisoners were brought out of the planet and in a safer place. All but Thela and her advisors.

This... this was that irritated Serin the most. Not ONI, not the Covenant- Thela 'Vadamee. She wasn't sure if her superior knew it, but it was clear that Thela was trying to do something here. Assassinate Log? Capture him? That would be the greatest move made in a war. But she was restrained, submissive and yet... eager.

That eagerness just didn't sit well with Serin and, even after Log made an effort to reassure her that he would be wary of her all the time, the young woman knew this wasn't going to be as simple. Sif was quiet, possibly busy with handling the coordination task of keeping all soldiers monitored and given the best routes. A monumental task, and enough to keep the AI busy- too busy to notice certain events happening in that investigation.

For some unexplainable reason, Serin could see Thela having troublesome reasons to want this one on one. to want to be left alone with Log and... she had just a feeling it may go beyond what war conduct dictated. There was just something 'weird' when she saw them together. Even though it was clear that Logan was the one keeping the 'leash' in that moment, the stare the female Sangheili had on him, the trepidation and giddiness, was so unnervingly terrifying. It was like she wanted to be leashed for this, to be on her knees and-

Last time I indulge Sif in learning more about sexuality.

The concept had been stupidly brought to her when it became clear that, after the war, she had all the intentions to stick to Log. To be around him and be... close to him. The issue was that while she wanted, she didn't know how. Romance books were a bit of a taboo in her mind as she understood that she could never get to that level of 'girliness', the same extending to sexuality- how was she supposed to learn of this stuff without feeling awkward about it all!?

So frustrating and so... interesting.

Why would Thela want this? Why would she even consider a human, her worst enemy at that, someone to... grow interested in? Was Serin missing something relevant of this topic or... it didn't make any sense.

A fascinating case to entertain, but not one she was given the chance to further study as the alarms of the ship started to rip through the silence of her her room, snapping into action, Serin quickly put on the helmet she removed to rest, reaching for her team's signals and rallying them by the entry point of the living quarters.

A message was sent by Hood to all leading officers: unknown human attackers had infiltrated the base and they were all working to get to the command post by brute-forcing their way there. Serin's goal? Stop them fast by rushing there with her team.

And right as this was all happening, she got a warning from Sif that the base where Log was staying had been jammed as communications were cut off and it went dark on the radar. Serin growled a bit at the thought she knew who was behind all of this and... that she had once thought of joining them.

All hesitation and doubts she had back them shredded to pieces with this very moment- right where ONI took steps to cause a major mess that was going to perhaps screw any chances to achieve peace. No, Serin wasn't going to let them get away with this.

With her team fully prepared, they rushed with two Marine squads through their destination, with Captain Hood protected by a full ODST squad that had been assigned to cover the area and stopping any rebellious troop to get through. The sudden jamming of communications and the flashing of Insurgency-like messages in the comms was a clever distraction if not for the fact that the infiltrators were too well-prepared for this.

Serin was finally going to give Parangosky one last answer to her offer through this and she was more than happy with that.
