Chapter 10 " Would you love a monsterman"
Part 2 Asuka
Great, just great, Hikary is on trip for a whole week and I am here stuck with drunk Misato, mister 'I play cool guy because I know stuff that are people don't' and wonder girl who knows my real identity and probably the world is going to end because my arrival or something. It's times such this that I wish I wasn't born an Eva pilot. Why couldn't I have born in a regular family with regular people around me? But I quess I ask to much from the universe. Asuka was so lost on her thoughts that she barely heard what Misato said to them.
"...and that's why you two can't go to the school trip. Do you understand? " Asked Misato.
"Yes. " Said both Asuka and Shinji.
It seems that even he didn't pay attention. Thought Asuka as she watched Shinji been lost in his own thoughts.
"Okay I am going to prepare for tomorrow dinner." Said Shinji as he headed to the kitchen.
"So early?" Asked Asuka.
"If I prepare most of the ingredients now I will more time to do other chores."
"You really are weird."
"They have said to me many times."
I really wasn't in the mood to the pool again but Misato pushed all for this, so here I am waiting for something to happen before I start murdering this idiot. Speaking of which, I don't know if he had figured out who I truly am but since he didn't start with the:' I am sorry ' and ' please be nice to me '. means he still in the dark. All this time I keep covering the parts of my body which the scars are visible the most with less revealing clothes. I don't do this because I am afraid that I want look attractive, it is just that I don't want people to start asking me where I got them because it is something I don't want to speak about . Those memories still haunt me to this day. Hence why I chose to wear a old bikini with a hottie on it.
"What's been bothering you?" Asked Shinji.
"Nothing." Said Asuka.
"It doesn't look like that."
"Then how does it look?"
"It looks like something on your mind has been bothering you and I like to know what is it."
"Why because you are my doctor?"
"No because as a friend I am worried about you."
Ha, that's rich coming for you.
" AND WHO SAID I AM YOUR FRIEND ? I just working with you for the time being."
" Fair enough, but I see that you have something inside of you ready to explode in any moment."
"This is ridiculous." Said Asuka as she left the room.
Shinji immediately followed her to where she was going.
"Asuka wait."
She ignored him.
"Wait dammit."
She ignored him again.
"Just wait for a moment."
Shinji grabbed her hand to stop her.
"Don't touch me." She said as waved his hand away form her.
" GOD, DAMMIT ASUKA WHY YOU NEED TO BE ALWAYS LIKE THIS? Don't you see that there are people who worried about you?"
"Out of all the people in the world you are the last person which get to deserve to say something like that in my face after what you have done. You are the reason why I am like this, you are the reason why we are here making this stupid conversation"
Shinji face darked for a moment and added.
"What are you talking about Asuka?"
Shit, upon my rage I might have said to much stuff, well guess it is time to let the cat out of bag.
"I know... "
But before she could finish her sentence the sound alarm was heard. It meant that the angel was found.
Perfect time I suppose.
Misato and Ritsuko started explain the basic of the operation and as they did Asuka catch a glimpse of some technicians carrying parts of something big.
"What's this?" Asked Asuka out of curiosity.
"Ah, those? This are parts of a big weapon which Ritsuko is planning."
" Misato that's a secret information."
"Let me tell you kids it is really cool." She whispered
"Misato."
"Okay, okay, okay, I got it."
"In this fight you are task to enter the volcano with a specific suit. The angel is still in hibernation to evolve, so instead of killing it you will only have to transfer to us to study."
"And what if the angel awaken during the operation? " Asked Asuka.
"Then you have the permission to kill it." Answered Ritsuko.
" And what if awakens when it's already here? Or more specific what will happen if it awakens in very important place ?"
"Then have God show us mercy for what will happen afterwards. So, who is going to enter the volcano?"
"I will." Said Shinji.
Asuka looked him surprised. She didn't expect to take up the task.
"Okay then, Asuka you will be outside and waiting for the moment to drag Shinji out of the volcano."
"Why me? Why can't you put wonder girl on this?"
"Because Rei's Eva is still going through some repairs and modifications."
" Fine."
" Shinji go to your change room we have the suit prepare for you."
" Hai." He said as he went to change.
"Asuka go and change too."
"Yeah."
After a while Shinji came out of his change room with his new suit. While the suit wasn't the same as Asuka back then but it was more bulkier than before.
"You are so funny with this suit, you look like a fat astronaut." Commented Asuka while trying not to laugh.
" Hey, don't laugh this is important alright?" Said Shinji.
"Okay, okay I got it. See you on the battlefield then."
"Yeah."
This moment despite being small it was the perfect thing for Asuka to forget all the bad things in her life and enjoy the moment for once.
Shinji was sent down to the depths of the volcano with his Eva while Asuka was waiting outside. Asuka wasn't really worried for him since he probably knew how to combat the angel . But still there was a small part of her which was worried about him.
Me ? Worry about the idiot ? Ha, that's probably will never going to happen again. That pervent deserve to die right here and now. My life would have been so better without him ( and yet so boring). What? I why I have this kind of thoughts right now? He is evil , he abandon me, ( he saved once), he rejected me, (he asked me if I need any help) and he jerked infront of me while I was unconscious ( and he regretted doing it afterwards). What does he want from me dammit? Why can't he simply said it for once? And what you did to him in return Asuka? You made fun of him, you refused his help and never said thank you for everything he tried at home. Ahhhhhh. Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up. This ridiculous. I need to tell him the truth or else I will go insane from my thoughts.
As Asuka was divided with her thoughts Shinji manage to enter the center of the volcano.
"I am seeing the cocoon right infront of me , I ask for permission to continue." Said Shinji from the vox.
"Permission is allowed pilot, continue the operation." Answered Ritsuko.
"Roger that."
Shinji started putting the egg in the cargo and made a signal to Asuka to start pulling. But then a sudden shock was heard from the volcano and ground around started shaking like crazy. A small part of lava was spilled to Shinji's position and damaged a bit the suit. Thankfully the damage wasn't massive but good portion of it fell in the egg making it more heated. With this heat the young angel awoke and started causing having.
"The angel awoke, I repeat the angel awoke, I am taking the liberty to eliminate it." Said Shinji as he pulled out his prog knife .
"Hold on pilot this is an important objective, don't engage in battle yet."
" Time isn't a luxury I have now Ritsuko a need to kill it now."
"Alright then pilot, you are permitted to kill it." Answered Ritsuko bitterly.
Shinji was fighting hand to hand with the angel. The angel strike with its right claw but was stopped by Shinji's left hand. The angel tried to attack with the claw but that was also stopped by Shinji when he stabbed it with his prog knife. The angel screamed in pain but it refused to stop fighting. The angel decided to counter attack Shinji by fighting him with what limb left of it. It scratches Shinji's armour and headed for the rope which tied him in.
The angel managed to damage a good portion of the rope but expose a part of it.
" My rope has been damaged, I need to retreat or else I will be cooked here."
"Affirmative. Pilot 2 pull back pilot 1."
"Wait, if Asuka pull me now there is big change the angel might come with me. I have damaged it a bit but I need something else to finish it."
What should I do now? I can leave him to die right here and now or assist the person who ruined a good portion of my life.
"Asuka." Said Misato over the vox but Asuka didn't pay to much attention.
He is idiot, a prevent, a coward and a show off sometimes but he was usually a good person around me. He didn't lie, he was supportive ( as much as he tried) , he was kind and he didn't hesitate in time such as this. So what should I do now?
"ASUKA." Misato yelled, finally catching the attention of the redhead.
"Ah, what?"
"Shinji is in great trouble you need to help him."
"Yeah, sorry I was lost." Said Asuka as she threw her prog knife to Shinji's side.
As the knife fell Shinji catch it immediately and used to throw the final blow, killing the angel in the process. As the angel fall the rope started breaking and Shinji was ready to fall as well. But before Shinji could meet his end someone stop him from falling in the volcano. Asuka jumped to save him at the last minute damaging her Eva in the process.
You don't get to die on my watch Baka. You thought you could escape from your troubles so easily? I will be the one who will tell you when to die. Thought Asuka as she and Shinji were pulled back.
After this incident Misato invited Asuka and Shinji to the public bathrooms and relax for the rest of the afternoon. It was a great moment of relaxation for the two of them. Afterwards, Shinji and decided to return home by foot after all Misato wanted to return to Nerv to finish with some documents.
Both of them were silent. They didn't know what say or what to do with eachother.
"Thanks for saving me today." Said Shinji.
"You are welcome but I was mostly doing my job." Answered Asuka.
"Diving in a volcano without orders isn't really part of our job."
" So then why did you do it back there?"
" How did you find out?"
" I was trained from when I was a little child Shinji, I know a good pilot when I see one. Plus, some days ago you mumbled something in your sleep about the third impact, so I figured out that you were more than what meets the eye. Did you find out as well?"
" When I first saw your scars I thought they were just a coincidence but I also noticed that you tried to hide them wearing less revealing clothes and acted a bit different than before. When I started realize who you really are I was shocked. All this time I believed that I had lost you forever."
"So now that you know the truth what are you going to do?" Said Asuka.
"I don't know, I still can't believe what is happening in front of me." As Shinji was realize what was happening in front of him he tried his best to hold of his tears.
"You didn't answer my question."
"What?"
" The thing I asked you first. Why did you save back then?"
"I... I don't know, I acted without a second thought. For some reason wasn't afraid of getting burnt or get hurt because my main focus was to save you and nothing else. All this time I was inspired by your presence and attitude. All the kids in the classroom said you were devil but I saw that deep down you are as broken as I am."
"To save a person who brings only pain to you, is the dumbest thing someone can do. You really are an idiot."
"But then ,why do you do that today?"
"Because... because despite all the bad things you might have caused me. I still can't forget all the good thing about you. I was such a bitch to you all the way,at least you tried to be nice to me." As Asuka said those words she tried to come closer to him
"Don't tell that Asuka, I was the reason why all this happen to you and us. Don't come closer to me, I am just monster."
" If you are monster, then I am monster too." And as she said that she went up and kissed him in the lips.
A.N: This is end of part 2. In the next part we will also see the story from others characters perspective outside the main pair( Asuka and Shinji). As I want flesh out some of the characters such as Ritsuko and Rei( and probably Misato later) and see how this characters will react to a new thread that's in on the horizon.
