Chapter 68
Hiccups POV:
The light faded allowing me to see that I was no longer in the courtyard of my Aunt and Uncles castle but in a clearing surrounded by trees with a large castle in the distance. I was brought out of my observations when Toothless began growling and I turned to see him growling at the hooded figure that had brought us here. I quickly readied my sword and unfolded my shield as I glared at him. He didn't even flinch when I pointed my sword at him and asked.
"Who are you and where are we?" He merely held up his hand.
"There is no need for violence dragon rider." He lowered his hand. "You are in Camelot and I-" He raised his hands above his head before the lightformed a ring above him before the ring came down on him transforming the robe into a white cloak with a gold amulet and no hood revealing the face of an elderly man with a long white beard and his long white hair tied back in a ponytail. "Am Merlin!" I had heard many tales of Merlin so I knew I was dealing with a wizard.
"Alright Merlin why did you bring me here?"
"I brought you here because the world is in dire peril and you are needed to help defeat the coming evil but all shall be explained safe inside the walls of the castle." I nodded since I don't know why but I had the feeling I could trust him.
Half an hour later
I was standing at a round table surrounded by fourteen other men, who included Merlin and the king of this land who I'm told is named Arthur while Toothless stood next to me ready to strike if someone tried to harm me. The men sitting closest to Arthur at the table were Lancelot, Galahad, Tristan and Merlin. They were the people he trusted above all others in his kingdom and had earned their place at the table. Apparently, a seat at the table was earned and not given which is why Toothless and I were standing by the table as the men conversed but every now and again I saw a man glance at either Toothless or me. I could tell from these glances they were a little uneasy with Toothless and I couldn't blame them with the glare he was giving Merlin. It was then Merlin said.
"I know you are all curious about our guest and the beast who are with us today so please quiet down and let me speak." Everyone stopped speaking. "Morgan Le Fay is growing more powerful with each passing day and in order to defeat her I have brought this young warrior and his mount to aid us in the coming battle." One of the men then spoke up.
"But he is merely a child, how could he help in the upcoming battle?" Before I could reply to the child comment Merlin answered.
"Young he may be but strong as well if the tales of his heroics hold true then he will be a great ally to have." Arthur then said.
"Merlin, I have always trusted your judgment but I must ask if you are sure?" I saw Merlin smile.
"Have faith my king for the gods of different nations would not give their blessing to a mere mortal without said mortal proving themselves through the hardest trials."
"But are you sure for the boy's beast seems to wish you harm." It was this moment I decided to cut in and said.
"Hey do you think you could do me a favor and stop talking about me as if I'm not here?" Everyone turned to face me. "Speaking of the subject could someone please tell me what this problem is that I was brought here to help solve?" Merlin looked at me before he sighed.
"My apologies for our rudeness Hiccup as you are right to wish for an explanation." He stood up. "My former pupil Morgan Le Fey wishes to take over Camelot and should she do so a period of darkness shall befall the land which shall spread across other lands."
"Okay but why don't you face her yourself since you were her teacher?" He looked down.
"I'm afraid that the student has surpassed the teacher and has become too powerful for me to defeat." I nodded.
"Alright but what does this have to do with me?"
"The stars have foretold that you would be able to put things in our favor and promise us victory in the coming battle."
"Okay I now know why I'm here to help you fight Morgan Le Fey but do you know what her plan is." He shook his head.
"All I know is that she has made her way to an ancient mystical piece known as Stonehenge and built a fortress around it to aid her forces in preventing us from reaching it so easily."
"So, you want me and Toothless to help you fight through the fortress in order to stop Morgan Le Fey from doing whatever she's planning with this Stonehenge?" He nodded.
"I know this is asking for a lot but you must aid us for should we fail the consequences may be dire for many innocents' lives." I nodded.
"Alright I'm in." He smiled.
"Thank you!"
"So, when do we leave?"
"As soon as I can cast a spell that will reveal the location since she has cast a very powerful cloaking spell so until we are able to see through it we will not be able to mount an attack." I nodded.
"Well if that's the case then could you please tell me where I can train since I'd like to keep my skills sharp?"
"You may ask one of the servants to lead you to the courtyard when you've left the room and when something has come up I will summon you all back here." I nodded as everyone stood up to leave as me and Toothless made our way to the door but as we reached it I stopped and turned back to face Merlin.
"Oh, and Merlin a word of advice." He raised an eyebrow. "Keep the magic to a minimum around Toothless since it makes him feel uneasy." He nodded as we walked out the door.
2 hours later
I was in the courtyard practicing with my sword against imaginary enemies while Toothless watched before I heard clapping from behind me. I turned and saw Galahad and Tristan watching me with their swords out before they walked up to me as Tristan said.
"Impressive swordsmanship young man."
"Thanks, but it would be nicer if I had some actual opponents to go up against."
"Well funny you should mention going up against real opponents." Galahad then said.
"We came out here hoping you would be interested in a sparring match against us since we wished to know the strength of the man we were going to be fighting alongside." I smiled at them.
"Just say when." They both smiled and charged at me.
Three hours later
I was sitting on a bench with Galahad, Tristan, Lancelot and King Arthur enjoying a drink of water after multiple sparring matches. It was originally just me Galahad and Tristan but the others joined us soon after seeing us practicing for the upcoming battle. Long story short I'm pretty sure I impressed them and when it came to Toothless they were all curious as to how I found him and why he didn't like magic. I went on to how Toothless and me met before moving on to my battle in Arabia and how dark magic was used to enslave Toothless. They agreed that after being turned into a slave and forced to attack the ones you love would give a hatred of magic to anyone. I also learnt a bit about each of them and our upcoming enemy like how Morgan Le Fey was King Arthurs half sibling and is very powerful so I doubt she'd be an easy enemy to bring down. The thing that interested me the most was Arthur's sword Excalibur and with good reason to. That sword didn't snap like a twig when it met with my star sword in a strike. The second they met in the air there was a massive shockwave that threw both us and everyone else back a good fifteen feet. I admit my star sword was one of the most powerful weapons when it came to swords but I'm pretty sure Excalibur was equal in strength and power if not more. It was then a servant came out to inform us that Merlin has called all of us to the round table to discuss something of utmost importance. When we arrived in the throne room everyone took their seats before Merlin said.
"I thank you all for coming so quickly as I have discovered the location of Morgan Le Fey's fortress and with-it Stonehenge." Arthur replied.
"Excellent work Merlin but how long will it take us to get there."
"By horseback I'd say we should reach it by afternoon tomorrow."
"Let us waste no more time and head out immediately." He looked around at all the knights. "Should you wish to remain here I will not stop you but should you choose to accompany me into this battle then I shall thank you from the bottom of my heart." He stood up. "All those coming please rise now." Everyone stood up brining a smile to Arthurs face and I had to say I admired their loyalty and bravery. "Thank you, men, and know that should you fall in battle your names will never be forgotten for I shall personally see that they be inscribed on the tapestries in the throne room." Everyone cheered at this before we all made our way out of the throne room.
Nightfall
We were all sitting down around fires and resting for tomorrow since we had spent the entire day riding. I was lying against Toothless' body sleeping while some of the knights kept watch for any trouble. I was woken up when Toothless stood up and began growling into the forest. Trusting my dragon's instincts, I stood up and readied my spirit bow with a forest arrow while letting out a yell to let everyone know there might be trouble. Everyone stood up taking out their swords and shields to prepare for battle.
It was as the last knight readied his sword that loud roars echoed through the forest as a group of armed horrific creatures charged out of the woods. (AN: Picture the orcs from lord of the rings.) I let loose the arrow and let it fly into a tree that was quick to come to life and grab two of these creatures by their necks from behind before lifting them away. I quickly took out another forest arrow and launched it at the ground where four of the creatures were running towards some of the knights. Roots immediately grew out of the ground and grabbed their legs tripping them. This allowed the knights easy kills just needing to stab their swords into the downed beasts. One began running towards me with its axe raised but a plasma blast into the chest from Toothless was quick to bring it down. I then heard a grunt and turned to see one of the creatures had knocked Galahad to the ground and was getting ready to go for the kill but I quickly grabbed one of my scimitars throwing knives and threw it at the creature. The knife lodged itself firmly in the creature's throat, which it was quick to grasp in an attempt to pull out the knife but I didn't focus on it for long since there were still a lot of these things. I took out an earth arrow before firing it at another one of the things hitting it in the chest before it sunk right into the ground with only its hands sticking out. I pulled out one of my lightning arrows and let it loose towards the ground between four of the oncoming creatures. It impaled itself right in front of them before lightning came out of it and striking all four of them with it zipping around their bodies as they screamed in pain.
It was then I put my bow away and readied my sword as I unfolded my eagle shield before I charged into battle alongside the knights. I saw Tristan was fending two of them off so I ran to his aid and slammed into the side of one, pushing it into the other sending them both to the ground before I stabbed my sword into one of their chests while Tristan stabbed the other. We looked at each other for a moment and nodded before we went to aid the others. It was then three of the beasts were charging at me I quickly grabbed two scimitar-throwing knives and threw them at the two beasts on either side of the middle one and they embedded themselves in their foreheads sending them to the ground. With the two down for the count I charged head on at the third and final one with my shield in front of me. It raised its mace above its head but when it brought the mace down I stepped to the side dodging it before I rammed right into the creature knocking it down and sending its mace rolling away. I held the beast down with my shield before raising my sword like a dagger and stabbing it into the beasts' chest killing it. It was at that moment a shadow fell over me and I turned to see a creature with a sword raised to end me but before it could strike a plasma blast to the side took it down. I turned to Toothless who was facing me and gave him a nod of thanks before ducking under the sword swing of another of the beasts before I stabbed it in the gut with my sword sending it tumbling down while I stepped to the side to avoid its falling body. I looked around for my next opponent only to see nobody left and the knights were finishing those that were still alive off. I walked to Merlin and asked.
"What the heck were those things?" He turned to look at me.
"Those were some of Morgan Le Fey's forces." He looked around at the battlefield. "She must know that we're coming and sent them to stall or kill us." Arthur then said.
"There is no time to lose then, we must keep moving before she is able to send more of her forces at us." He then looked around. "Did we sustain any casualties?" Lancelot replied.
"No, my lord it is with great relief that I inform you that we sustained no casualties or injuries." Arthur nodded.
"Excellent, now let's mount up and move out before more forces of evil arrive." Everyone mounted up, as did I before we took off once more.
6 hours later
We were standing on a hill looking at a small fortress that surrounded a large circle of rocks that I figured was Stonehenge. I pulled my spyglass out of my saddlebag and looked out at the fortress to get a feeling of what we were going up against. I saw a lot of those things armed with bows standing guard on top of the wall while there were multiple stakes at the bottom facing away from the wall. I didn't like the look of this but I knew Toothless and I would be able to fly over the walls and take down the archers to allow the knights and Merlin a chance to get close. I knew Merlin wouldn't be able to help us out since he needed to save his strength if we were going to stand a chance against Morgan Le Fey which is why he didn't help fight off her forces when they attacked. It was then I saw a large wooden door that served at the entrance to the fortress and knew it may have been made of wood but it would still be difficult to break open. I knew I'd need to help get it open from the inside but it wouldn't be easy with Morgan le Fay's forces firing arrows and throwing weapons at us. Still though I think we'd be able to do it since it would kind of be like when we were at war with the Berserkers and Outcasts. I turned to Arthur who was sitting on his horse next to me and said.
"It looks like they're expecting us." I passed him my spyglass and he looked down at the fortress as he asked.
"Do you think you and your dragon can take care of the archers on the walls?"
"I doubt we'll have any problems and should be able to open the gate from the inside to let you all in." He nodded.
"Good luck to the both of you!"
"Thank you." I then looked down at Toothless and pet his head. "You ready to do this bud?" He growled and nodded. "Let's go and kick some butt then."
We then took off high into the sky so we could begin the attack with a strike from above so they wouldn't see us coming. Once we were up in the clouds I had Toothless dive straight towards the wall where the archers were and had Toothless spread his wings to turn our dive into a glide as we closed in on the archers. They didn't see us coming until we were right only a short distance away from them. By then it was too late for them to ready their arrows as we flew right over their heads with the following wind knocking them off the wall screaming. We flew back up to prepare for another strike as I prepared a wind arrow to take care of some more archers. When we took another dive, we had to dodge some arrows since the remaining archers now knew we were here. I took aim at a large group on the wall who were trying to aim their arrows at us. I let my arrow fly and it landed in the middle of them before the wind began before they tried to maintain their balance but this wind had the force to knock over a dead tree. They were tossed off the wall after a few seconds when the wind reached its full power. There were still four archers on the wall and I knew exactly how to deal with them. I signaled Toothless to dive towards them, which he was all too happy to do before I yelled.
"TOOTHLESS, BARREL ROLL, MULTIPLE BLASTS!"
He was all too happy to roll and let loose plasma blasts hitting each of them in the chests and throwing them back off the wall. Those were the remaining archers and that means the knights would have no trouble making their way to the fortress. I could already see them riding fast towards the fortress so I needed to get the door open for them so we could begin our full attack on the fortress. I had Toothless fly us behind the wall so we could break open the door but two guards guarded the back. When they saw us, they charged with their weapons ready but all Toothless did was hit them each with a quick plasma blast to the chest and they were down for the count. I hopped off Toothless and signaled him to watch my back before he gave a growl and nod as I ran to the door with my sword drawn. I slashed the log holding the doors shut making the two halves fall to the sides before the doors burst open with the knights and Merlin charging in it was then the horses began to freak out till their riders got off them and allowed them to run away. Merlin muttered about Morgan Le Fey's black magic as Arthur raised Excalibur and yelled.
"TAKE THE FORTRESS AND DEFEND THE MEN YOU FIGHT ALONGSIDE FOR CAMELOT!" They each gave a battle cry and charged down the halls on foot but before I could mount Toothless and join them Merlin put a hand on my shoulder and said.
"Stay with me and Arthur Hiccup, we're going to need your help in this battle." I nodded before I mounted Toothless.
"Let's get going then."
They nodded before Arthur led the charge with Merlin and I at his sides, Lancelot, Tristan and Galahad ahead of us while Toothless hung back behind us after I signaled him to watch our backs. It was as we ran down the hall that a cage came out of the ground trapping Toothless who roared in surprise. I turned back to face him as he slammed into the bars to try and escape but before I could do anything to help him a chain on the top lifted him up through a hole in the roof. I tried to go after him but Lancelot and Tristan grabbed my arms and pulled me back to the group as Merlin said.
"He will be fine but if you truly wish to help him then we must defeat Morgan."
"How do you know she isn't going to kill him?"
"It's not her way as she will not waste such a magnificent beast but try to control him."
"Let's hurry then before she has a chance."
He nodded before we continued the march but as we did there were roars and groans down the hall before a large group of those creatures charged down it. I took out my spirit bow and quickly loaded one of my earth arrows before I fired it at them and landed right in front of them before the entire floor turned into a pit. Six of the beasts fell in before it sealed up leaving most of them completely buried except for a few who's arms, hands or elbows were left sticking out of the ground. This didn't bother the others though since they just ran past or in some cases on the limbs. The knights readied their shields before I noticed a chandelier hanging from the ceiling by a rope. I quickly grabbed one of my scimitar-throwing knives and threw it at the rope slicing right through it. As expected the chandelier came crashing down right onto the heads of four of the beasts before five more charged over them as I put my bow back as I drew my sword and threw two more scimitar throwing knives at them imbedding them straight in the foreheads of the front two killing them. I unfolded my shield and charged at the beasts before one swung his sword towards me but I ducked underneath it and swung my sword through his side killing the beast. Another one tried to bring its axe down on me but I stepped to the side and used the fact that it was kneeling to bring my sword down on its neck decapitating it. The final one charged at me but I slammed into the creature's chest using my shield and pinned it to the wall before stabbing the end of my blade into its throat ending it. I pulled away from the wall allowing the creatures body to fall as I felt a hand land on my shoulder and turned to see Merlin who said.
"Don't act so hastily in your desire to protect your dragon Hiccup as it causes mistakes."
"I know but it at least gets the job done faster."
"True but it can also cause vulnerability in our ranks."
"I understand that Merlin but I'm not going to lose Toothless to dark magic again."
"I understand how you feel Hiccup but you must beware of Morgan Le Fay as she will try to gain control of you by offering your heart's desire but when your guard is down or if she has no more use for you she will then betray you."
"Speaking from experience Merlin?"
"Indeed, but now let us continue as every moment we wait Morgan grows more powerful." I nodded before we continued down the hall.
Along the way we encountered many more of Morgan le Fay's forces but we struck each of them down and continued on our way. It felt as if the hall was endless but just when I was beginning to get frustrated I saw the light of day at the end of the hall. I ran the rest of the way to the end before the light of the sun blinded me for a second before my vision cleared showing a circle of stone pillars with a women with long brown hair tied in an upward facing braid, a gold wrapping in her hair, a dark green dress with gold material wrapping around the waist and a gold necklace with a dragons head that had a diamond in the open mouth. She was standing in the center of these stones with her arms raised above her head as she chanted in a language I couldn't understand. When Arthur, Merlin and the others walked out the ground began to shake before it felt as if I was being lifted before I noticed that the ground we were standing on was being lifted from the surface and for some reason I couldn't move. When the surface finally stopped moving I heard laughing as Morgan turned to face us with a smile that sent a shiver up my spine. Her eyes landed on Merlin and Arthur who were next to me as she said.
"Well if it isn't my old teacher, my dear half-brother and the remaining Knights of the Round Table with the famous dragon rider." Before I could say anything, Arthur stepped forward.
"End this now Morgan and surrender for we outnumber you and with Merlin here we match you in strength." She chuckled before waving her hand before statues appeared as if a fabric was just taken off them.
"Do these look familiar to you brother?" Arthur examined the statues, as did I before realization struck me as it did Arthur.
"My knights!"
"Indeed, for you see I enchanted the hall you were running in to make sure they got here before you but when they got here they attempted to take me on." She gestured to the statues. "You can see the result of their efforts."
"You will pay for this witch!" He and the knights charged towards her but I realized this is what she wanted as I yelled.
"ARTHUR NO!" It was too late however as Arthur and the knights began to sink into the ground they stepped on as Morgan walked up to Arthur.
"You truly should've learnt to control that anger of yours brother."
He was then completely dragged into the earth before rising again as a statue. This brought me out of my shocked state before I growled and threw three of my throwing knives at her. She simply raised her hand and formed a shield of yellow light. My knives stabbed into the shield getting pretty deep before she dissipated the shield and smiled at me. She looked at me smiling before raising her hand as it glowed and before I realized what was happening I was up to my knees in the ground. She towards me smiling as she said.
"I shall deal with you in a moment champion." It was then Merlin walked past me and said.
"It is time to end this Morgan!" She smiled at him.
"I could not agree with you more old man."
She then raised her hands and began chanting as they began to glow a pale green before Merlin did the same but his hands began to glow a pale blue. They each then both brought their hands down so their palms were facing each other before bursts of magic shot out of their palms with Morgan's being pale green and Merlin's being blue. The beams hit each other in the center and began to push at each other trying to gain strength over the other. All I could do was stand there and watch in shock before Merlin said.
"GIVE UP MORGAN!" The blue beam grew and pushed back the green one. "YOU CANNOT DEFEAT THE ONE WHO TAUGHT YOU MAGIC TO BEGIN WITH!" Morgan laughed.
"STONEHENGE IS MINE TO COMMAND YOU FOOL AND SO IS ITS MAGIC!" The green magic beam then grew far larger than Merlin's and pushed it right back to Merlin knocking him ten feet back as I screamed.
"MERLIN!"
I was finally able to will my body into moving again and tried to run to Merlin but before I could reach him a green magical beam blasted him. Once the magical beam ended Merlin was turned into a stone statue of himself on the ground with his hand held up in what I assume was an attempt to protect himself from the magic. When I was right next to him I dropped to my knees on sadness because now I was the last of the warriors standing against Morgan le Fay. I felt a shadow land on Merlin and me and turned to see Morgan le Fey looking down at Merlin with a smile as she said.
"The old fool never stood a chance young rider and neither did my pathetic half-brother or his oh so trusted knights." She then turned to me. "You on the other hand I have an offer for." I stood up releasing my blade and unfolding my shield.
"THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN OFFER THAT I WOULD WANT FROM A MONSTERS LIKE YOU WITCH."
"Are you so sure about that?" She snapped her fingers and the ground behind her opened up before my eyes widened because rising out of that opening was Toothless who was muzzled and chained to the ground but when he tried to move the chains glowed green. "Now are you ready to listen to what I have to say?" My eyes returned to her as I nodded. "You see Hiccup Haddock I did my research on you along with your adventures and I was impressed which is not an easy thing to achieve with me."
"Get to the point witch!"
"With the power of Stonehenge, I shall be able to amass an army to take over the lands while using my magic to enslave the minds of the people but my army will need something that I cannot create with my magic."
"And what would that be?"
"A general worthy of leading them and that is where you come in."
"What?"
"I want you to join me as my armies general and my trusted knight and in return you shall get your dragon back along with multiple rewards for every victory you bring whether it be riches." She raised he hand before I found myself surrounded by gold. "Female servants ready to obey your every command." The gold vanished and was replaced by women holding plates of food or bowing to me. "Or a castle of your own." I was then standing in a large throne room with tapestries and banners with Toothless on them as black torches lit the room before it all faded. "All of that can be yours if you pledge allegiance to me and it can all be yours." I glared at her.
"I was offered these things and more by a genie and turned her down so as you can guess I'm not interested." She smiled.
"Oh no problem there since while we were talking I've been using my magic to slowly enter your mind and you will soon be under my control." I smirked at her.
"Then by all means try it." She smiled but that smile quickly turned to one of shock.
"What is this?" Her face took on a look of frustration. "Why does my spell not work?" I chuckled.
"Too bad you didn't learn about the gifts the gods gave me or you would know that I'm immune to any form of mind control as is my dragon so stop wasting your time you old hag." I knew when I called her an old hag the real fight between us had begun as she let lose a beam of magic at me which I blocked with my eagle shield shocking her since her magic only pushed me back a few feet. "Nice try but your magic is nothing compared to the magic of the gods." She glared at me before conjuring a barbed blade engulfed in green flames.
"Let's see how you do in sword combat little man." I folded up my eagle shield to allow easier movement as I took my sword with both hands and held it in front of me.
"Bring it on old lady!"
She growled before we charge at each other before the sound of metal striking metal filled the area. Our swords clashed hard against each other as we struggled against each other in attempts to gain the upper hand. I pushed her back before swinging at her torso with my sword but she dodged it and took the chance to strike at me. She succeeded in scratching my left shoulder pad and denting the armor. At first, I didn't pay it much mind until that cut spread and disintegrated the gronkle iron armor including the lower lairs leaving the top of my shoulder exposed. She smiled at me as I looked at the exposed flesh in surprise but my surprise was over quickly since she took another slash at me. She succeeded in slashing my upper torso destroying the upper part of chest plate exposing the upper left section of my body. Before she could get another strike in though I slashed at her myself and succeeded in drawing blood from her upper right arm. She smiled at the wound and said.
"Not bad, you've drawn first blood." She then turned to face me. "But it'll take more than that to defeat me."
She then charged at me once more quickly slashing at me with her burning blade as I used my sword to block her strikes. I wasn't able to block all her strikes though and she was able to get more than a few cuts on my armor slowly destroying it. The entire left arm was gone except my eagle shield, the top left chest plate was destroyed as was the lower right side, the right arms bottom part was destroyed and the upper left leg was no more. I had gotten a few hits in myself though since Morgan le Fey was now sporting multiple cuts on her upper arms and a long cut going downwards on her right side. I glared at her as she glared back before we charged at each other once more before the blades of our swords met in the air once more making sparks fly from where the blades met. She pushed me back and gave another slash but I stepped back only allowing a small cut on my lower right arm. At first, I didn't give it much thought but I could tell Morgan had something planned and it wasn't long before I knew what it was as a burning sensation formed where the cut was. I looked down and saw my own flesh beginning to turn black and dark green as it began to rot away as Morgan laughed before she said.
"This is your last chance to join me Hiccup and if you do so I'll stop the rot from killing you and if you don't join me it shall continue to spread until all that's left is a rotten corpse for the maggots to enjoy."
Looking down at my arm I knew there was only one way to save myself from the rot without joining Morgan but it was not going to be pleasant or easy. Along with that it was no doubt the toughest thing I've ever had to but the sacrifice would be worth it if it allows me to continue to fight Morgan le Fay and defeat her it would be worth it. If she was defeated then the land would be safe and hopefully Merlin, Arthur and the nights will be restored. It was these things that gave me the strength to do what I did next. I glared at Morgan le Fay who was smiling down at me before turning back to my arm where the rot had reached passed my elbow and was slowly spreading. I wasn't happy about what I was about to do but I knew it was necessary so I put in my other hand and took a deep breath. I kept my eyes on my rotting arm as I raised my sword before I brought it down on my own shoulder. I clenched my teeth together as I cut off my own arm to keep the rot from spreading to the rest of my body and watched as my now severed arm fell to the ground. I could tell that Morgan wasn't expecting this by the look she was giving my arm and I as I began to bleed from the wound before she smiled and said.
"Impressive Hiccup Haddock, not many people would be able or willing to sever their own arm."
"I'm willing to do anything to stay alive long enough to fight you demon."
She gestured her arm in a sweeping motion before I went sliding across the ground and accidently let go of my sword. I stopped sliding when I hit Merlin's stone body but fortunately I didn't damage it. I looked up to see Morgan walking towards me smiling. When she was right in front of me she looked down and said.
"You're disarmed in more ways than one now Hiccup Haddock and now you shall die."
She raised her hands as they began to glow but I knew what to do as she brought her magic down on me I raised my remaining arm and unfolded my shield. The spell surprisingly reflected back at her but she cut through it but it did annoy her. She glared down at me before I said.
"Next time you should make sure your opponent can't summon the sword to them."
I folded up my shield and summoned my star sword to my hand making it fly right into the palm of my remaining hand shocking Morgan. I used her shock to my advantage and lunged forward with my blade pointed at her. I stabbed my sword into her stomach driving it right through her. Green flames exited the wound before I withdrew my sword as she backed away, staring at me before falling onto her side. I let go of the hilt of my sword as I heard a cracking sound from behind me. I turned to see the stone around Merlin and the knights slowly beginning to crack. The stone then fell to the ground revealing everyone was fine as they began looking around. When Merlin's eyes landed on me he saw my bleeding stump and ran up asking.
"Hiccup what happened?" I chuckled.
"Long story!" I then winced in pain and gripped my bleeding stomp.
"We need to seal that wound." He rubbed his hands together as they began to glow. "My apologies but this will hurt so brace yourself."
I took a breath as he pressed his hands to my bleeding wound and I felt as if hot iron was being pressed against it. I had to clench my teeth and squeeze my eyes shut to do my best not to scream in pain. The pain felt like it lasted forever when it was only a few seconds before Merlin pulled away. He looked at me with a frown as he said.
"I've sealed the wound to stop the bleeding but I'm afraid there is nothing I can do for your arm."
"It's alright Merlin!" I turned back to my arm that was now little more than a rotting bone with skin on it. "I don't think you could do anything for it now." I turned my sword into its hilt form before I put it onto my belt before I walked up to it and looked down sadly as Arthur walked up with the knights.
"What happened?"
"Well the short version is you all were turned to stone before her and I did battle when I turned down her offer to become a general for her army." I then gently rubbed my new stump. "She got a cut in with her cursed sword making my arm rot but I severed it before it could spread to my body before Morgan swept me to the side making me drop my sword but as she was ready to finish me off I summoned my sword to me and stabbed into her stomach killing her." I could tell by the looks on their faces they all were surprised at this.
"Hiccup when we get back to Camelot you are going to need to tell us everything." The knights nodded, as did I.
"I can do that but first I need to free my dragon."
They all nodded as I began walking towards Toothless who was still chained up except the chains no longer glowed as he crooned at me. As I made my way toward him though I noticed something about Morgan's body and that is it was gone. I immediately began looking for where she went and spotted her hiding behind one of the stone pillars. Before I could confront her though she let loose a beam of magic towards Arthur. I ran to him and shoved him out of the way taking the blast right in the chest. It felt like I was just hit with one of Toothless' plasma blasts as I was thrown back over the edge. The last thing I saw as I fell from the land was Merlin and Arthur looking down with their hands out as if they were trying to catch me.
I knew there was nothing anyone can do since Toothless was still chained up, Merlin was probably still recovering from Morgan's spell and there was nothing the knights could do. If there was one thing I learnt in my travels though it's that there are things that are feared that didn't need to be feared and death was one of them. I don't want to sound arrogant but I felt as if I'd earned my place up in Valhalla. I'd at least be able to enjoy some peace and get away from the fan girls and as far as life goes I've lived a pretty full one with all my travels and adventures. I only hoped my dragons and animals would be all right without me since that was my greatest concern if I died. Still I did leave my will and gave Gothi, Gobber and my dad copies with instructions to only open them in the case of my death. It didn't stop me from worrying as I fell to my doom though but at least I died saving a king so I died a good death. I closed my eyes waiting for my back to hit the ground followed by deaths embrace.
When I felt my body hit the ground all I saw was darkness before nothing for a few seconds but when I opened my eyes I was standing in the middle of a large grassy field. I had the feeling this was not Valhalla and there seemed to be voices on the wind calling me somehow. As I walked down the fields I followed the voices but I kept my guard up but it wouldn't be easy to defend myself with just one arm and no weapon. I eventually came to a path with multiple large stone tablets on either side of the path. Written on them were stories that depicted scenes from old Celtic legends about the gods and their exploits. I continued down the path occasionally stopping to read some of the tablets or rub my stomp not being used to the feeling of missing one of my limbs, especially one I had relied on. I eventually arrived at a large circle of pillars with a large stone table in the center of it but other than that nothing. I took a step forward into the circle before a bright light filled the circle along with a strong wind. When it finally ended I saw I was no longer alone in the circle for standing at the table were those I recognized as the Celtic gods. They were all smiling at me before I asked.
"I figured I'd go to Valhalla when I died but I guess when you die in another land it's the afterlife of that land you go to." They chuckled before the god I recognized as Dagda said.
"You are not dead yet Hiccup Haddock!"
"Are you sure because I'm pretty sure the fall I took would kill anyone?"
"It is not your time to die yet Hiccup Haddock but time for you to receive our blessing and gifts for all you have done in our lands for our worshipers." I sighed as I looked down.
"Okay listen I appreciate the offer but I don't think I deserve anything special since I really didn't do anything worthy of getting a meeting with the gods." They all laughed at this.
"Don't be so modest Hiccup!" It was then the goddess who I recognized as Brighid said.
"In Ireland you vanquished a fachan after giving away free food to hungry villagers from your own supplies, vanquished a banshee, freed the leader of a village from a curse that has tormented him for so long, defeated a rogue Dullahan, helped Siren of the Glostic sisters finally find her courage to face her sister and redeem herself to earn a place back with her family." She took a breath. "In Scotland you killed a Nuckelavee and a kelpie before befriending Nessie and convincing those lords to leave the old girl alone and finally in England you stopped Morgan le Fay's plans which would have destroyed the world at the cost of your own arm before you gave up your own life to save King Arthur." She took another breath. "You have no idea how these things will benefit the lands in the future and it is for these reasons you have earned a meeting with us and the gifts we bestow upon you." The god I recognized as Lugh who was known as the master of skills stood up and lifted up a chest onto the table as he said.
"We should probably start with this gift to help you carry the others." He pushed the chest towards me and it stopped in front of me. "Open it and tell me what you think." I opened up the chest and found a golden prosthetic arm resting on green silk with a seal that had an image of Toothless on the side of the shoulder and a seal with an image of the tree of life on the back of the hand. "That prosthetic has been imbued with our magic and is one of my finest creations made out of pure leprechaun gold which is one of the hardest substances in the world." I nodded as I kept studying every curve of it. "Well what are you waiting for?" I looked up at Lugh who was smiling at me. "Try it on."
I hesitated for a moment before picking up the prosthetic and fitting it onto my stomp before I dropped to my knees and grit my teeth in pain. It felt as if this prosthetic was ripping into me with burning hot needles only this pain was lasting longer than any form of pain I had ever endured. When the pain finally came to an end I was breathing heavily and looked up at Lugh who was smiling at me. I slowly got to my feet using the table to support myself but as I did I realized something. I was using the prosthetic arm to lift myself up and when I looked at it I realized I was controlling it like I did my old arm. It was as I realized this as Lugh said.
"As you can guess it can be controlled as if it were your real arm but this one has a few improvements most of which you'll have to discover on your own." I looked down at the arm and moved it around to test it a bit.
"It's an amazing piece of work but is there any way I can disguise it as a regular arm to avoid drawing attention to it?"
"There might be but you'll have to figure that out yourself." I frowned at this. "Don't worry, you're a smart mortal so you'll figure it out soon enough." I nodded as Dagda said.
"Onto your next gift."
He pulled out what looked to be a large dagger with a pointed green crystal at the end of the handle. He slid it across the table to me before I picked it up but when I did something big happened. The handle extended as the crystal grew more pointed and sharper on the side. By the end it was double ended spear with a very sharp blade on one side and a glowing green crystal shaped like a blade on the other. I could feel the power pulse through the spear as I looked up at the gods before Dagda said.
"Now that spear is like the other weapons that the gods of other lands have given you so it holds great power, can only be used by you and has many abilities but those are for you to discover in your own time." I nodded as he took out a small chest and slid it across the table towards me. "A little something for your new arm." I opened the chest and found ten green crystals imbedded in red silk. "Those crystals have great power Hiccup but only you can harness it with your new arm." I looked up at them.
"What is the power they hold?"
"You shall find out in time with the help of your dragons but know that the crystals don't last forever for when their power is drained they will shatter and be nothing more than normal crystals."
"And what happens when I run out of them." He smiled at me.
"This brings us to your next gift." He lifted an emerald green crystal up and slid it towards me before I recognized it as an island piece like the ones I've received before but this one had a curved top and on the side was what looked to be a small man before Brighid said.
"As you can guess that is a new addition to your island which we created to look like the lush green fields you enjoyed so much in Ireland but it is on this section that a guardian of the island rests and shall awake only when needed but there are more inhabitants that shall roam the hills and shall never harm you but simply help guide you when needed." She then looked at the crystal for a moment before looking back to me. "You will also find a small cave where you will be able to grow more of the crystals but know there will be no crystals when you first go there but you shall know how to grow them there when the time comes." I nodded before she slid a black cap. "That there is a merrow cap designed for you and when wearing it you shall have the ability to breath under water." I smiled at this knowing it would make both playing with my tidal classes and looting sunken ships easier before Dagda said.
"It now back to the mortal realm we must send you and with you we send these gifts and our blessing till next we meet." I nodded as I replied.
"If that's the case than thank you for everything and goodbye until next we meet."
There was a bright flash before I found myself laying on the ground in the forest we had ridden through on our way to face Morgan le Fey. I sat up and looked down at the golden arm that now replaced my real right arm and had to say it was truly a magnificent piece of work but I doubt it would ever truly be able to replace my real arm. For now, though I needed to see if the knights and Merlin were nearby so we could head back to Camelot. I looked around and found the gifts I was given from the gods along with my star sword in hilt form lying next to the spear. I picked it up with my new arm but before I could put it back on my belt the fore arms bottom seemed to be lift up before it seemed to pull my sword into it. I don't know how but I could sense my sword inside the arm as I stared at it and wanted my sword back in my hand before the forearm opened up again pushing my sword out and back into the palm of the hand. I tried making it put my sword away once more and I got the same result with it being pulled into it. When I picked up the spear I got the same results but this time it's like I could sense the two weapons inside my arm. I tried willing my sword out and it came out before sending it back in before trying to summon my spear and found my new spear in my hand. I knew this would come in handy in the future for carrying and concealing my weapons in the future but I had to master it first. I gathered up the other gifts I got from the gods and then began my search for everyone. It was then I heard the crunching of leaves and sticks accompanied by the sound of metal moving and a voice I recognized as Arthur yelling.
"START SEARCHING FOR HICCUP AROUND HERE SINCE HE WENT DOWN SOMEWHERE HERE!" I then heard him let out a breath. "I KNOW HE MOST LIKELY IS NO LONGER ALIVE BUT THE LEAST WE COULD DO FOR HIM IS FIND HIS BODY AND TAKE IT BACK TO HIS HOMELAND FOR A PROPER SENDOFF TO THE AFTERLIFE!" I chose this moment to stand up and walk towards the sound to find Arthur and Merlin leading the knights and Toothless in a search but their backs were turned to me so I said.
"I appreciate the thought your highness but I'm not ready to pass on yet." Everyone froze before slowly turning to face me. "What's the matter all?" I smiled at them. "You lot look like you've seen a ghost." Merlin slowly walked up to me as if he couldn't believe it was me and touched my face before he asked.
"Is it truly you Hiccup?"
"In the flesh!" I then turned to my new arm. "Well mostly anyway!"
"But how is this possible?" Before I could reply Toothless walked past Merlin with his pupils dilated until I held out my real arm for him to sniff and once he got a good sniff his eyes went back to normal as he growled in joy and pounced on me as he began licking me while I laughed. "Okay bud, I'm happy to see you to." When I was finally able to push him off Arthur helped me up and asked.
"How is this possible?" He stared at me. "We saw you take the blast for me and fall from one hundred feet!"
"It's a long story but in short I met with the Celtic gods who gifted me with items including my new arm but we can go over everything when we get back to Camelot and I would like to know what happened once I went over the ledge." They all nodded before we mounted up and headed back to Camelot.
Morning the next day
We had arrived in Camelot two hours ago but for some reason Arthur told us to wait before I explained what happened and said there was something that needed to be done before I told them anything. Now I had just entered the hall with the round table where everyone was sitting but this time I noticed there was another chair with Toothless carved into the back. I felt a hand land on my shoulder and saw Arthur smiling down at me as he said.
"You've earned a seat at the round table!" Everyone cheered at this as I smiled and took my seat and I had to say it felt good before Arthur took his place. "Now that we're all in our places I would like to know what happened after you were blasted off the side Hiccup." I smiled knowing that this talk was long time coming.
Nightfall
I was lying down in the bed in the room I was given with Toothless sleeping across from me as I went over what happened after I told them what happened after I was blasted off the side. They went on to ask what happened in Ireland and Scotland before they made me promise to tell them about my other adventures. They then went on to tell me the Morgan le Fey disappeared after I was blasted over the edge before Merlin helped lower Stonehenge slowly to the ground while the knights freed Toothless. Merlin told me that she was only gone temporarily and one day she'd be back to try again but all I said was I'd be ready to help in any way I could. Arthur thanked me for this and in the afternoon he had me knighted for aiding in the defeat of Morgan le Fey at the cost of my arm and for risking my own life to save King Arthur. After that I got to participate in a joust and came out on top by breaking my lance and knocking my opponent off his horse and got to go onto the next round. I then went through the 'vow of the peacock' where I got carve up a roasted peacock with its tail feathers fitted back into it. I was meant to give a boastful speech to everyone but I told them I wasn't the boasting type and they accepted it and they allowed me to keep my smashed lance as a souvenir from my joust. I had also gotten the kings permission and opened a portal door in my bedroom but still had to set one up in castle Dunbroch and Ireland. Tomorrow Merlin agreed to take me back to castle Dunbroch to reunite me with both my relatives and my Scauldrens but he also had to stay for a bit to explain to my aunt and uncle how and why he basically kidnapped me and Toothless.
My eyes then drifted to my side table where the chest that held the crystals I got from the gods was sitting along with the Merrow cap. I'd yet to have the time to figure out what the crystals do but I had feeling that it would be big but I'd need Toothless' help to figure it out first. There's also my new spear that if what the gods said was true had more than a few abilities that I was going have to discover on my own but if its anything like my other god made weapons than it will be powerful. My Armor was damaged pretty badly and would need repairs but I figure I'd display in the trophy room as a reminder of the battle. Then there's my new arm that so far all I knew about was how I'm able to use it like a regular arm, it had a storage hold for my god made weapons, could harness the power of the crystals somehow and as I discovered at dinner was freakishly strong when I accidently crushed a golden goblet in my hand. I knew that these next few weeks were going to be pretty darn busy for me.
Afternoon the next day
I was standing out in the courtyard with Merlin and Toothless next to me, Arthur in front and behind him was the knights of the round table all smiling at me. They were sending me off with a shield with the insignia of Camelot on it showing me to be a knight of the round table. I was also given a tapestry in the hall which would commemorate my battle against Morgan le fey which is a great honor for anyone. I also had my old arm completely encased in pure crystal done by Merlin who told me that when they thought I perished I deserved to be sent off with all of my limbs and he intended to get rid of it when they discovered I was alive but I told him I'd keep it as a souvenir from the battle. Gross I know but it was better looking than the nuckelavee and I would want to be buried with my lost arm but also because the only other possible souvenirs were serious black magic and I did not want to mess with that stuff. It was then Arthur walked up to me and said.
"The next time our paths cross I hope it is on better days my friend and know that the doors of Camelot shall always be open to you and should you ever need help the knights of the round table will be more than happy to come to your aid as you did ours."
"Thank you, your highness, and know that my island docks will always be open to your ships." He nodded in thanks before Merlin raised his hands which began to glow as he chanted. "Till next we meet."
I saw him smile and nod before there was a bright flash and then we were in the middle of castle Dunbroch's throne room. My relatives were staring at us from their thrones while the lords and their heirs stood behind me staring at us in shock. I chuckled as I scratched the back of my head and said.
"Hi all how've you all been?" As soon as I said that utter chaos erupted before my Aunt Elinor was able to get everyone under control and allowed me to speak again but before I did I knew it was going to be a long day.
AN: Hey all I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and I'm sorry to those who didn't want Hiccup to lose his arm but it will be playing a big part in the future when it comes to fighting enemies and solving problems. Trust me you will understand in the future so please keep your reviews nice and please actually review since I'm beginning to worry nobody's reading the chapters with the lack of reviews. By the way if you're having trouble picturing the spear just picture the 'Spear of Destiny' from 'God of War 2' with green crystals instead of purple. Well until next time I hope you have a pleasant day and enjoy the new chapter.
