Arendelle
Many Years Ago
Arendelle was beautiful. More beautiful than the young female assassin thought it would be when the Captain of the Godspeed John Smith told her that would be the port where they would be parting ways ever since he discovered her presence in the middle of his twenty strong all male crew three months ago.
The kingdom was located near a fjord, making it a visible trading center to the rest of the Enchanted Forest, comfortably nestled among mountains as its castle towered over the palace that housed its royals. But more importantly the Brotherhood of Assassins hadn't managed to reach this far north thanks to the efforts of one Shay Cormac.
The Morrigan ruled the icy northern seas, and now without the Creed's own Captain to outmaneuver the legendary brig, she would be safe until she could find another Captain that would take her further afield.
Stood at the highest point of the Godspeed the young assassin marveled at the new kingdom in front of her. The young captain's own description of the kingdom didn't do it's justice of how beautiful it truly was.
Taking her eye's off the castle as the Godspeed slowly glided into its port the assassin moves around the crows nest as she looked down onto the upper deck where the young Captain himself was stood steering the ship with his First Mate standing nearby.
She had to admit he was handsome. There were times where she found herself looking at the strong Captain as he worked around the ship, pitching in wherever he could. His kind heart saved her life when his men wanted to throw her overboard after finding out the female's presence. He noticed her too, often inviting her to a game of Morris in his cabin almost every evening after supper in the hull which only made this day harder for both as her impending departure had slowly plagued their minds the closer, they got to the Kingdom.
The crew had also taken a liken to her as they found her knowledge of a working ship to be more help than a hindrance than they originally thought. The turning point for her was the bad storm they had been caught up in a few weeks ago when a deck boy got stuck in the crow's neck. After some convincing she was allowed to be freed from her confinement to free the boy and safely get him down before she herself fell into the stormy sea.
But she knew she couldn't drag him into her life. Not with the Brotherhood of Assassin's coming after her. And they would come. Their influence spread far and wide across the Enchanted Forest and anyone looking to make some good coin from her 'safe return' would be looking for her.
Feeling the pair of eyes on him the captain looked up to see the redhead that had made the last month of sailing interesting to say the least looking down at him. He couldn't help but give the young girl that had chosen his ship to sneak onto a gentle tight-lipped smile from the wheel as her heart started the thump a little quicker in her chest making her mirror the smile back down the Captain that had saved her life with no way to repay him.
Leaving was going to be harder than she thought.
"Welcome to Arendelle!" the port master welcomed every person that walked down the dock to enter the Kingdom. The jovial atmosphere that was currently surrounding the kingdom hadn't quite reached the Godspeed as the young woman made her way down the wooden plank that took her to the dock.
It had finally dawned on the redhead that she was really on her own for the first time in eighteen years. She couldn't remember a time where Romeo wasn't always there to help her. And now he was gone.
"Second thoughts?" John's calming voice reached her ears taking her out of her thoughts of her former Master, making her look at the young Captain that seemed wiser than is true age of twenty. Only two years her senior.
"No" she quickly tells him. She needed to leave his ship before the Brotherhood caught wind of her location. She knew he would be in more danger if she stayed "I can't stay on your ship forever"
"Wouldn't be a bad thing you know" he supplied, knowing the reasons why she had to leave. Once she told him and his First Mate Thomas about the Brotherhood of Assassin's, the older man quickly told the younger Captain that she couldn't stay in fear of putting every member of their crew in danger.
"We both know it would" she argued with the stubborn man she turns to face him as he stood in front of his ship. They wouldn't be staying long once she had left "Thank you" she started as she tried to remember the speech, she had practiced in her small cabin next to his the previous night "For everything, I don't think there's a way I could ever repay you for not taking me back to the Enchanted Forest"
"Just stay safe" he tells her "That's all I ask".
"No promises Cap" she replied using the nickname she had found herself using for him. At that she turned and walked away from the young captain who had annoyingly taken up residence in her mind, as she headed into the next chapter of her life away from the Brotherhood of Assassin's.
Captain Smith could only watch as the redhead quickly disappeared into the crowd as he heard heavy footsteps coming from behind him as a large firm gripped hand landed on his shoulder as if to stop him from going after the woman, he grown close to in only three months of knowing her "You see her again lad".
"No, I don't think I will"
Leaving the docks, she had to ignore the tug she felt in her chest that told her to go back as she entered the town square as she took in her new surroundings. There seemed to be an event going on, perhaps even royal as brightly colored streamers and banners had been hung from every building and the townspeople put on their best clothes as they rushed around all headed towards the same place, towards the large palace the lie on the other side of a long bridge that connected it to the rest of the kingdom.
"Mom, why do I have to wear this thing?" she overheard a young boy complain n to his mother as he tugged at his navy blue coat.
"Because, The Queen has come of age!" the mother replied excitedly "It's Coronation Day!".
"That's not my fault!" the boy cried before his mother dragged him towards the palace.
The interaction made her chuckle to herself as it reminded her of the way she would complain to Romeo watch time she had to dress in her formal robes for whatever ceremony Claudius was holding that day.
"I can't believe they're finally opening up the gates!" she heard another man that walked passed her grinning at the woman next to him as her mind wondered to the man that practicably raised her since the age of five.
Romeo. Her Father. She would never get used to that. In the three months she had been on the Godspeed she tried to make sense of what she had witnessed that afternoon when she was told by Paola had told her that he been arrested by the others for reasons unknown until she told her a story of how her parents had come to her for help to hide her and her mother.
But it still didn't make sense somehow. How could her father love a Templar?.
She was taken out of her thoughts when she was suddenly pushed forward, whirling around she saw it was a reindeer trying to get the satchel on her back that John had given her full of provisions he could spare for her journey ahead.
"Sven! Stop it!" a masculine voice chastised the reindeer pulling at his antlers away from her bag "She doesn't have anything for you".
Chuckling at the image before her she took her bag off her shoulder and reached in the pluck a green apple out and offer it to the animal. Slowly the reindeer, whose name was Sven, gave it a careful sniff the reindeer gave the assassin a disgruntled huff before shaking his antlered head from side to side.
"It's okay" she tells the reindeer "I'm not a fan of green apple's either, too sour. I prefer red" she says with a cheeky wink quickly discarding the apple into a small girl hands that was passing by "Here" she trails off digging further into the bag she takes out a carrot, quickly offering it to Sven.
Seeing the treat the reindeer mood suddenly brighten's up as he looks to the muscular blonde man stood next to him that was puling him away earlier as if to ask him if he could take it.
"Go on" the blonde man tells him "Don't forget to say thank you to the nice lady" at that the reindeer quickly takes the carrot from her hand swallowing it whole before jumping up to lick the side of her face.
"Thank you nice lady" the man mimics what Sven's trying to say.
"Your...Welcome...Sven" she tried to hide the grimace from her face as she tries to wipe away the evidence from her face with the sleeve of her lilac robes.
"Sorry, he's got a thing for carrots" the man tries to apologize for the reindeer "I'm Kristoff, by the way".
"Am-Natasha" she quickly corrects herself "Natasha" she says shaking the man's outstretched hand "Friends call me Nat" She couldn't use her real name, not yet at least or maybe never again.
"You've met Sven already" Kristoff reintroduces the pair as the reindeer stands up little straighter than before at the mention of his name.
"Hello handsome" the redhead tells the reindeer making him snort as the redhead strokes the top of his head.
"So what bring's you to Arendelle Nat?".
"I'm not quite sure actually, I'm still figuring it out".
"Well you picked a good day to come" he replied with a grin "It's Coronation Day!".
"So I've heard" she tells the man as her eyes trace over the decorations that covered the place "Has Arendelle been without a royal for long?".
Scratching the back of his head he gave the redhead in front of him a shrug "Sort of. The King and Queen died a few years ago, leaving two daughters behind, their eldest Elsa is of age now, so she's being crowned today".
She had heard about that. The Brotherhood were one of the first informed or at least to find out when a royal dies.
"And the whole kingdom is invited?" she asked as she eyed more people heading towards the palace. But then she saw an older gentleman with a receding hairline that looked a little too fake to be real, large nose and white mustache being escorted to the palace flanked by too younger brutes in similar dark uniforms. Flicking her vision on on close inspection she saw something that made her skin crawl up her back. A small Templar cross was pinned on the older man's uniform. Both men behind him also wore the same pin as they surveyed the area around them before heading toward the palace.
Templar's? Here? What could they want here? She felt little to no magic here.
"Look's like it" Kristoff seeing the redhead had become distracted by something in the distance.
Blinking out of her sight as looked back at the man and his reindeer making them jump a little "It was nice to meet you both. I should get going. Start figuring out where I go from here" leaving her satchel with Kristoff she turned and left the man with his reindeer.
"Hey wait! Your stuff!" but his yells went unheard as Sven stuck his head into the the opening onto the pull out with another carrot in his mouth.
"Weirdo" Kristoff whispers to himself before snatching the carrot out of Sven's mouth to take a bite of it.
Look's like she was attending the Coronation.
The former assassin had no problem blending into the crowd as they made their way into the palace, paying no mind to the young girl in the green dress that was singing while dancing along the bridge.
Managing to get herself into the large ornately decorated chapel. The younger of the to princesses entered first, the redhead recognized her as the strange girl that had been singing earlier dressed in ornate green and black dress sporting the same colored hair she had only neatly pinned up.
As the Bishop of Arendelle started the ceremony, her eye's were firmly trained on the man she had spotted earlier sat near the front. With a blink her world around her turned dark blue as the Queen to be and her sister shone a neutral blue. Focusing on the Templar she was taken by surprise when he himself didn't come up red, no the younger man in the white coat with bushing brown hair and sideburns sat behind him shone red.
"Your Majesty, the gloves..." she heard the Bishops distorted voice quietly tells the Queen as he presented her the old staff and orb on a blue velvet pillow. The newly crowned Queen hesitantly pull the light blue gloves off her hand before picking the items up.
The world went back to normal as hairs on the back of Amelia's neck stood up as she saw the objects starting to frost over. She had magic. The crowd around her lept to their feet, and applauded at the newly crowned queen.
"Queen Elsa of Arendelle!".
Seeing her mistake the new Queen quickly returned the golden objects to the Bishop as she hastily pulled the gloves back on her hands. She saw the fear in the young Queen's eye's. She was nothing like the only other magic user she had met nearly a year ago.
The Queen Regina was in control of the dark magic that surrounded her, but Elsa was something else. Something dangerous. Something that could get out of control if she didn't concur her fear.
"I can't believe they're finally opening the gates".
The sentence rung in her head like a bell tolling. She heard it but she wasn't listening. Not really. The gates of Arendelle had been shut for a reason, a very powerful reason.
That's why the Templar's were here, they wanted to see what was being hidden for so long. And if they found out the Queen nor her sister were Brotherhood only ever killed a magic user if they were harming non users as a last resort. And by the look's of it the Queen's parents hadn't even given their daughter a chance to try and control let alone use for the good of the people.
She needed to speak to the new Queen tonight.
Later that night the former assassin used the darkness to her advantage as she easily climbed up the side of the palace to pull herself up and over an open window on the second story.
The Queen, Elsa, would be in the ballroom seeing to all the dignitaries from other kingdoms that had attended her coronation. Finding herself in one of many corridors the assassin had to quickly dive into a room as she heard people coming her way. Pulling the door slightly open she saw the Princess running around the freshly polished floors in her socks with the man she saw sat behind the old Templar singing as they slid across the floor.
"Love is an open doooor!".
Once the Princess and the man she would have to put a pin in at that moment disappeared around the corner, continuing with their song the redhead slipped out of the room she hid in staring at the doorway the pair went though.
"Idiots" the redhead quietly muttered to herself before turning back to her current mission.
Following the sound of music and lively chatter the former assassin slipped into the ballroom, unnoticed by Arendelle guards she spotted the Queen stood in front of the throne with her hand clasped in front of her as the old Templar approached the new Queen.
"Your Majesty, may I present, the Duke of Weaseltown" the Royal Steward announces gesturing the tiny grey haired Templar.
"It's Weselton!" the Duke snapped balling his hands into fists making the redhead snigger to herself. Clearing his throat "Your Majesty, may I present my associate. Claudius, Mentor of the Brotherhood of Assassin's"
Feeling her heart drop into her stomach she watched as her old Mentor and teacher sauntered into the ballroom with his pristine white hood over his head, heading straight for the Queen but coming to complete stop in front Elsa before pulling down his hood to reveal his face to her as fear seeped into the young redheads chest seeing the man so hell bent on seeing her dead because of who her parents were.
And now he was working with the enemy.
"Your Majesty" Claudius greets the new monarch with a deep bow.
"Forgive me, I don't know of this Brotherhood you speak of" Elsa looks at the man in front of her in confusion.
"No need for forgiveness, your majesty" her old Mentor casually replies with a friendly smile "We have been working in the shadows for almost three centuries, it is seen as a testament of our work that you have not heard of us until now".
"Claudius here has been travelling kingdom to kingdom in search for a former student of his that needs to answer for her crimes against her order" the Duke informs the young Queen.
"What did she do?" the Queen asks them.
"Nothing to concern your majesty over with" Claudius jumps in "We simply wanted to make our presence here known while we search for her. For now, please enjoy the ball. We shall speak more at a later date".
"Fuck" Amelia cursed to herself as she watched Claudius walk away with the old Duke into the crowd.
She needed to speak to the Queen now. Her opportunity however quickly disappeared as the Queen's younger sister came back into the ballroom dragging the man she was singing with earlier, pushing through the crowd until she reached her sister.
"Elsa!".
Seeing her missed opportunity the young redhead couldn't risk being seen by her old Mentor as she didn't have the right clothes to blend into the ball as she still wore the lilac robes that she left Monteriggioni in three months ago. And she wouldn't be able to fight him. She was only able to just about beat Iago but Claudius was the best fighter out of all of them, she wouldn't be able to match his brute strength.
She had to give up. But she couldn't leave with out warning the Queen as she headed back the way she came to find something to write with and a guard to scare into delivering a message.
At her name being called the young Queen saw her sister rushing towards her "Um, I mean, Your Majesty! Hi! Me again" Anne stammered before clearing her throat "May I present, Prince Han's of the Southern Isles".
"Your Majesty" Han's said bow low at the monarch.
Elsa gave him a quick curtsy in return managing a small regal smile. as she spotted the Duke speaking to the assassin he had brought into her home. There was something she didn't quite trust about the man in the robe.
"We..um We would like you blessing.." her sister continued to stammer pausing as a she and Han's giggled excitedly "Of our marriage!".
Tearing her eyes off the assassin she refocused on her sister at the sudden and unexpected news "Marriage?" she questioned her sister.
"Yes!" Anna replied.
"I'm sorry. I'm confused" she said just as a palace guard with a piece of paper approached her shaking like a leaf. "Y-Your Majesty" he addressed his Queen "A note for you".
"Not now" Elsa tried to dismiss him.
"T-They were quite adamant you should read it now".
Snatching the note from his hand she quickly opened it to read the small but to the point note.
'Do not trust the Claudius' - A Friend.
"Well, we haven't worked out all the details ourselves" Anna takes her sister's attention back to her "We'll need a few days to plan the ceremony. Of course, we-
With her mission a failure the assassin found herself sat in the palace courtyard stood in front of the large fountain that stood in the middle as she tried to think of her next step.
She could just go straight back to the docks and find another ship to sneak onto to put as many leagues between herself and her old Mentor or find a secluded place in the forest nearby to hide until Claudius had moved onto the next kingdom. Find a tree stump or abandoned farmhouse to start over.
Maybe she should go back to the Enchanted Forest and find King Leopold and ask for refuge in his palace.
She needed Romeo. He would know what to do.
"Thinking pretty hard there" a familiar voice made their presence known making her look up to see Captain John Smith smiling down at her with a mug of drink in his hand making her stand up straight.
"John" she replied in reply as she felt her heart beat a little faster in her chest.
"And here I thought you'd be mile's away by now".
"Here I thought you would be too" she retorted to the young Captain.
"The crew wanted to stay and join in with the celebration's, who was I to say no"
"Only the Captain" she teased him making him smile.
"Why are you still here Amy?" he asks her.
"I honestly don't know" she answered him as the door's to the palace suddenly burst open to reveal Queen Elsa on the other side with a panicked look on her face as she was greeted by everyone that was in the courtyard. Looking down at her hand she saw that one of her gloves were missing.
"Stay near me" she quietly warns the Captain as she takes one of his hands on her's feeling the warmth that seeped though his skin and the rough callouses that had emerged over the years from working on a ship. Dragging the man into crowd the panicked Queen ran into it to be be greeted by her subjects that were in awe of seeing their new beautiful Queen only to be blocked off each time she tries to find an escape.
What was she running from?.
Backing away from a woman with her baby in her arms, her un-gloved hand touched the fountain where she and John were just at, as her icy powers completely froze the water in the air making the crowd and John next to her look up and gasp at it in wonder.
Her question was answered as the Duke and Claudius flanked by the two Templar brutes appeared in the doorway. Claudius held his saber in his hand as he focused in the sorceress in front of him.
"There she is!" the Duke exclaimed pointing straight at Elsa "Stop her!".
"Gladly" Claudius growled out take a dangerous step forward.
"Please, just stay away from me. Stay away!" she warns them as she suddenly shoots ice at them. Pushing John back the Captain fell onto his back as the blast hit the ground in front of the the assassin and Templar's on the castle steps making the Duke, assassin and their guards fall onto their backs.
Landing on top of him the Captain met emerald green eye's in his line of vision as her face hovered over his as they tried to find any sign of injury.
"You okay?" giving the woman a nod the redhead quickly got onto her feet as the crowd around them start to back away in fear.
"Monster! Monster!" the Duke called out in fear as Claudius jumped onto his feet despite the ice under his feet.
Leaping from the stairs the seasoned assassin let out a roar as he brought down his sword towards the Queen only for his sword to get caught in a pair of crossed hidden at the person who had stopped him he was met with a face he hadn't seen since she was last seen screaming for her father's life from the balcony above his study.
"Amelia" he growled out as his face contorted in anger seeing the redhead that carried the blood of his enemy from her veins.
With her heart hammering in her chest the Queen looked a between the man she had been warned about and a young woman that looked the same age as her sister.
"Run" the redhead in the lilac robes similar to the one's that the older man wore told her, turning around she ran out of the courtyard closely followed by her sister and Han's as Amelia pushed her hidden blades up to wrench the sword out of her Mentor's hand before a cry was heard behind the older assassin as John ran as him before making contact with the assassin with his shoulder wrapping his arms around his body to send him onto the ground before landing a heavy punch to the back of head, knocking him out.
Looking up from the ground John's blue eyes met her surprised ones "Go!" John tells her with desperation in his eye's.
"Get her!" the Duke screamed out the orders to his men making the redhead look behind her Captain.
"Thank you" she whispered before following where Elsa had gone.
The path Elsa had chosen to escape led to the shoreline to the fjord, rushing down the stone steps she saw the Queen running across the water creating sheets of ice as each time her foot met the surface of the water.
Hearing footsteps behind her the former assassin made herself move faster as she followed the Queen on the ice ignoring the calls of warning from Han's and Princess behind her, as she tried to keep up with the Queen in front of her. Unaware that the ice was slowly freezing the whole fjord as snow started to fall from the night sky.
Snow fell on Arendelle as John sat on the ground on the courtyard tying to wipe away the blood from his nose. After Amelia had escaped with Elsa the older assassin had woken up from being knocked out only to punch him in the nose as punishment for what he did before picking up his sword and disappearing again.
Something catches the Captain eye as he sees the purple pouch of coins that he had supplied the redhead to start her off. Picking himself off the floor her quickly snatches it off the ground as the Princess returns closely followed by the man that followed her. He needed to find her. He knew who that man was. He was part of the Brotherhood trying to hunt her down. And now he could be anywhere.
"I leave Prince Han's in charge" Anna announces to everyone from on top of her horse that had been supplied by a servant.
"Are you sure you can trust her? I don't want you getting hurt" Han's asks her in concern.
"She's my sister, she would never hurt me" Anna tells her before spurring her horse forward only for a voice to stop her.
"Hey! Wait!" John calls out to the Princess just before she could leave making her look down at the man that had a hold of her reins.
"Take me with you" he tells her "I need to find the woman that went after your sister. She's in danger from people trying to hurt her"
"Who are you to her?" Anna asks the stranger.
"A friend" he forced out, but she could see that he didn't mean that. He cared for the woman that had saved her sister fro the brute that tried to kill her.
"Hop on" she tells him moving forward in her saddle to allow him to sit behind her before galloping out of the courtyard.
Following the gold trail the Queen had left, the sun was just starting to peak over the mountains as she forced her legs through the thick snow that had suddenly fallen upon Aredelle caused by woman she was trying to find.
Her lilac robes were doing nothing to keep the chill off her as she tried her best to tighten them around her, but she needed some extra layers soon.
Coming upon a slop that lead to a shallow stream the assassin widened her stance as she expertly slid down the decline through the thick white snow before easily hopping over the freezing cold stream before finding a small shack that had smoke coming out of its chimney.
Climbing up the wooden steps and sees a wooden sign that's been covered in snow obstructing whatever was written on it. Reaching up the former assassin lightly tapped the bigger sign making the snow fall off.
"Wandering Oakens Trading Post" the redhead said to herself as not a second later the snow fell off the smaller "And Sauna" making the redhead furrow her brow "What the hell is a sauna?".
Letting herself in she took a few steps inside the trading post for a voice to call out to her.
"Yoo-hoo" looking left she saw largely built man sat behind a counter with a bushy mustache that matched the hair that peaked under his hat "Big summer blowout. Half off swimming suits, clogs and a sun balm on my own invention, yah?" he offered holding up a jar full of said balm.
"Uhhh, winter robes and coats?" she asks the shop keeper.
He pointed to the back of the shop that was empty, except for a couple of outfits, two pairs of boots, one small than the other, a rope and axe "That would be our winter department" he informs her.
Walking to the section she finds a fur lined white coat dress that would come to her knee's. In it, she could still be easily maneuverable if she had to fight again. She would be able to attach her gauntlets over the sleeves and she wouldn't have to lose her lilac robe and hood if she wore it underneath her robe.
Taking the coat dress to the counter she places it in front of the man "How much?".
"That'll by seventy".
"Seventy?!" she exclaimed in disbelief "I know vendors that would sell this for fifty even in the coldest of winters".
"This is from our winter stock, where supply and demand have a big problem" he explained to her.
"Supply and demand huh?" she curses as she reaches back for the pouch of coin that John had given her on her belt only to be met by nothing there.
"Damn it" she cursed out load for the keeper to see the disdain on her face. It must've fallen off when she ran.
"Is there a problem?".
"Would you be able to trade for it?".
"Yah" he confirms with a smile.
The former assassin had to think for a minute as she went through everything she currently had on her person to get the one thing that could stop her from freezing to death before Claudius could get to her.
It was literally everything she had when she left her home. And incomplete set of throwing knives that was gifted to her by Iago when she was initiated, a couple of bottles of her healing tonic, a dagger and her leather gauntlets on her arms.
The realization hit her like punch to the gut as she held out the gauntlets her father had given to her once she reached the rank of novice and the silver ring she was presented when she finally made the rank of Master Assassin.
Pulling the gauntlets off her arms she handed them over to the man as her hand hovered over the silver ring that hadn't left her middle finger on her left hand and placed it next to the gauntlets.
"Made by the finest makers of Monteriggioni" she states to the man as he carefully appraises the items "I take they more than cover what you want for the dress" the man gave her a nod confirming the fair trade as she snatched the coat dress from the counter and left to continue her search for the Ice Queen.
"Bye-Bye!".
She couldn't help but feel bare without the comforting weight of her gauntlets on her forearms as she continued to follow the trail left behind by the Queen. the faint golden trail was slowly fading in the deep snow that had descended on the kingdom. The winter coat underneath her robe was making the difference as she trudged through the snow.
The trial took her higher into the mountains than she originally thought that overshadowed Arendelle until it came to abrupt stop in front of a rock face, She searched for the trail again to faintly see it going around the rock face.
Following the trial, the former assassin came to abrupt stop when she saw what was at the end of the golden trail.
"Woah" she breathed out in awe to what she saw in front of her.
A long ice staircase led up to a tall ice palace that nearly reached the tallest peak of the mountain. In all the eighteen years of her life she had never seen magic like this. It was beautiful. It looked taller than King Leopold's own palace.
Taking careful steps up to the top she was greeted by a set of large ice doors, the redhead reached out to open them only for them to open on their accord. She wasn't left disappointed by what she found inside the ice palace as she walked into a large entry way that had two set's of winding stairs that led up to the next floor of the palace.
The entryway was devoid of any furniture as she saw a simple frozen water feature in the middle. Her feet took her to the fountain as she reached out with tentative fingers as they found a frozen droplet of water that seemed to be floating in mid-air. The pad of her finger made contact as she felt the chill of the ice come through the layers of her skin, making the young woman let out a breathly laugh to escape her mouth in complete wonder.
"Who are you?" a voice asked her making her jump. Looking up she saw the Queen stood at the top of the stair looking down at her. But this was a different Queen than she first met in Arendelle. This one was more...let go.
She was a shimmering blue dress that trailed onto the floor, her blonde hair was let out looser than it was in a loose single plait going over her shoulder. She looked confident and fearless as she confronted the person who had let themselves into her sanctuary.
"Your Majesty" she stated bowing at the waist "My apologies, I didn't mean to alarm you" she said to the Queen as Elsa scrutinized every detail of the younger woman at the bottom of the stairs with her eye's as she recognized the lilac robes that had saved her from the assassin.
"It's you" she trails off "You saved me from that man"
"I was" Amelia confirms "He belongs to the same Brotherhood I once belonged to" she informs the woman as she walks to the bottom of the staircase.
"You know him?".
"I do, or at least I did" the redhead corrects herself.
"Then why are you here?".
"To help".
The day had quickly slipped by John and Anna as they searched for Elsa and Amelia. He couldn't remember the last time he had felt the temperature drop this low as he trudged through the snow in his worn-out boots as Anna stayed on the horse as they called out for both women. The Princess's voice echoed through the snow-covered forest as the captain decided to conserve his energy as the chill in the air was starting to seep through his thick blue tunic.
He was used to the icy winds on the sea, but this was something different. He couldn't think how Amelia was getting through all this snow. He and Anna were struggling even with a horse that gave them a height advantage over the inches of snow. Things got a bit more complicated however when the horse bolted, leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Day quickly turned to night as the Princess started to feel the freezing temperatures with a green cloak the only thing, she had to keep her warm while the captain was simply just trying to shiver too much as he ground his teeth together to stop them from chattering. Their saving grace came in the image of smoke in the distance. Smoke meant fire. Fire meant people.
Their relief was short lived however the Princess hadn't seen the slope down to a small stream as her foot slipped on some snow making her fall. Trying to catch her only for the captain himself being dragged down the slope along with Anna until they both ended up in the stream.
The captain ended up in the middle of the stream with his clothes completely soaked from head to toe while the Princess only ended up with her skirt in the water.
"I'm so sorry" Anna squeaked to the man as he the man floated in the freezing water trying to figure out how he managed to get into this situation.
"It's fine" he huffed out as he made himself to sit up in the water as he felt the cold air freeze the wet clothes to his skin as he picked himself out of the stream to offer a helpful hand to the Princess which she took as the same happened to her skirt as soon as the wet cloth touched the cold air.
The pair soon found themselves at the wooden shack they come to stop when they see a light covering of snow on the signs that hung outside the shack. Reaching up the captain lightly tapped the signs making the snow that did over it to fall off to reveal the words underneath.
"Wandering Oakens Trading Post" the Princess reads out load as not a second later the snow fell off the smaller "Ohh! And Sauna" she adds as they enter the trading post.
"Yoo-hoo" they were greeted with as they looked to their left to see a largely built man sat behind a counter with a bushy mustache that matched the hair that peaked under his hat "Big summer blowout. Half-off swimming suits, clogs and a sun balm on my own invention, yah?" he offered holding up a jar full of said balm.
"Oh great. For now, uh…how about boots? Winter boots and dresses?" Anna asked the man.
He points towards the back of the shop that was empty, excepts for a couple of outfits, two pairs of boots and an axe and rope "That would be our winter department" he informs them.
The pair walked to the back of the store to find an outfit for both of them to replace their wet and frozen ones they were wearing, as Anna found a cloak and dress with a pair of slender boot's. John found a dark blue fur lined tunic and matching pants with a pair of deep maroon boots the pair gathering the items to take them to the counter.
"We were uh wondering, has another young woman, the Queen perhaps. I don't know, passes through here?" Anna asked the shopkeeper.
"Only one crazy enough to be out in this storm is you two. And this other young woman earlier" he trails off making John's interest peak.
"Did she have long red hair and brown leather bracer's on her arms" John jumped forward to ask him.
"Yah!" he answered with a wide smile "Had to trade for a coat dress, with these" he informed the Captain reaching for the something under the counter to place the pair of leather bracers and a silver ring that belonged to Amelia. Anna watched as the color seemed to drain from his face seeing the items here and not with the woman that had saved her sister's life.
"You three and this fellow! Hoo-Hoo. Big Summer blow out" the trader suddenly exclaimed as the door to the trading post opened and closed to a man covered head to toe in snow. Making the Princess and Captain to whirl around as the man came to a stop just in front of them making Anna ackwardly squirm away from him as John stood hi ground to the man.
"Carrots" he simply states to them making them look at him.
"Huh?"
"Behind you" the man clarifies. Looking behind them they saw they were standing in front of the carrot's the man was after.
"Oh right. Excuse me" she says quickly stepping out of the way as the man tosses the carrots onto the counter before turning to the back of the shop, to the 'winter department'
"Woh, a real howler in July, yes?" the keeper tried to speak to the man "Where ever could it be coming from?".
"The North Mountain" the man tells him.
"North Mountain" John hears Anna whisper to herself as the man places the axe and rope on the counter next to the carrots.
"That'll be forty" the shop keeper tells him.
"Forty? No. Ten" he argued.
"Oh dear, that's no good. See this is from our winter stock, where supply and demand have a big problem".
"You wanna talk about supply and demand problem? I sell ice for a living" the man tells him making Anna and John peer out of the window to see a sled full of blocks of ice outside.
"Ooh, that's a rough business to be in right now. I mean, that really.. Anna comments with a chuckle earning a pointed glare from the man "Ahem...that's unfortunate"
"Still forty. But I will throw in a visit to Oaken's sauna" the keeper offers looking to a small window to the side to see another man in a room full of steam with kids "Hoo-hoo! Hi, family"
"Hoo-hoo!" they all reply wave at the keeper as Anna waves back with a smile.
"Ten's all I got" the man tell the keeper "Help me out".
"Okay" the keeper agrees as he puts the carrot's forward on the counter "Ten will get you this an no more"
"Okay just tell me one thing" Anna jumps into the conversation "What was happening on the North Mountain? Did it seem magical?"
The man pulled the scarf from his face and looks at Anna "Yes! Now back up while I deal with this crook here" he says pointing at at the keeper
The shop keeper narrows his eyes at the man covered in snow at being called a crook "What did you call me?" he lowly asks as he stand from his seat over towering both John and the man.
The next thing the captain knew the shop keeper had the man over his shoulder as he literally carried him out of his shop "Bye! Bye!" the keeper tells him.
"I'm sorry about this violence. I will add a quart of lutefisk, so we'll have good feelings" he says placing a jar on the counter among the other items they were getting "Just the outfits and boots, yah?" the shop keeper asked the pair that remained.
Grabbing the leather bracers that held the stealthy hidden blade and the silver ring that never left Amelia's finger John added them to the outfits and boots they were buying before throwing the pouch of coin she had dropped in the courtyard
"Add the bracers and the ring and we'll have a deal".
Leaving Anna to get the man that had come from the North Mountain to take them both there, John waited outside the trading post in his new outfit that included the new leather maroon boots that seemed to suit him. With the new piece of information he placed the silver ring that had the Brotherhood's insignia engraved on it on the silver chain that her kept around his neck while her bracers sat comfortably on his own forearms, with a few alterations he was able to tie them onto his larger forearm's so he wouldn't have the chance to lose them again.
Throwing out his arm like he had seen Amelia do a hundred times before on the Godspeed the hidden blade snapped out of it's place as he looked northwards. If that's where Elsa was, Amelia wasn't too far behind.
"I'll find you Amy" he whispered the promise into the night air "I'll always find you".
