Chapter 94
Hiccups POV:
I had just defeated the cult known as the children of Lopaka who were bent on avenging their fallen master but I didn't get the chance to enjoy my victory. After I had either tied up or trapped my defeated enemies I looked out at the open ocean at the setting sun and enjoying a quiet moment of victory and peace but sadly my moment was short lived since as I looked out to the sunset there was a bright green flash then darkness. When I opened my eyes I was no longer on the peaceful beach but in a dense jungle with the full moon shining over me but the strange thing was the full moon wasn't due for another week. I looked around for any form of clue that could tell me where I was or help me find a way back to Hawaii. It was then I heard ceremonial drums coming from the jungle and for some reason they sounded as if they were calling me towards me. I decided it might be a chance to find out what's going on and why I'm here so I began walking towards the sound of the drums but I kept my guard up since there was no telling if the people playing the drums would take kindly to me being in their territory.
I pushed the leafs and branches out of the way as I walked through the jungle eventually coming to a beach with a path of torches lighting the way towards the water but there wasn't anyone around. Despite the lack of people the sound of drums being beaten still filled the air but when I looked around I couldn't see where the sound was coming from. I tried to release my star sword so I'd at least be able to defend myself but much to my surprise I couldn't release it which made me a little nervous since it meant my possible opponent is powerful if they're able to restrain my prosthetic. I slowly walked down the path of torches keeping my guard up until I reached the end with a circle of torches. I walked into the center and looked around for any sign of trouble, people and to see if I could find where the drums were. It was then the drums stopped playing leaving only silence, which made me all the more nervous as I looked around in my fighting stance as I voice that just seemed to radiate power said.
"There's no need for that young warrior." I looked around and still saw no one.
"Who's there?" The sand between the torches slowly moves out of the way as wooden tiki statues rose out of the ground before flames ignite in front of each of the statues. "What's going on?" The flames in front of the tiki's slowly engulfed the statues before dying out leaving those I recognized as the Hawaiian gods standing where the tiki's once were so I immediately dropped to my knees and bowed my head before much to my shock they all chuckled as Kane said.
"There's no need for that Hiccup Haddock as you have more than earned your right to stand up in our presence." I remained kneeling.
"Forgive me but I don't believe I've earned that right since all I've done is fight some monsters and a cult."
"You've done so much more than that Hiccup for you do not realize the impact your deeds have had on this world."
"What do you mean?"
"I believe it best we show you."
Then all of a sudden I wasn't on the beach anymore but standing on what looked to be burning lava rock as the sounds of people screams filled the air. I looked around and saw a red sky covered in storm clouds, pits of fire bursting from the ground, people of all races running in fear from all sorts of monsters, different bodies all destroyed or mangled in some horrible way as monsters feasted on them, flying beasts swooping down to carry off unfortunate individuals. It was then I heard laughter that sounded like that of a madman and looked towards it to see none other than Lopaka sitting on a throne made of lava stone that looked to have human skulls imbedded into it. At his sides were guards holding spears and standing to attention while kneeling at his feet were two beautiful women with one holding a bowl of fruit and the other an open coconut. Crawling towards him was a mother holding a baby and a son all of which looked like they hadn't eaten in months to the point where I could see their bones. They begged Lopaka to show mercy towards them but all he did was laugh and raise his hand before slamming it down onto the arm of the throne. A pit opened up beneath the woman and her children before they fell in as I ran to see if they were all right only to find a pool with multiple sharks circling around the blood filled water as I dropped to my knees in horror. I looked around at the torment, pain and suffering gripping my head as I shook it and begged for it to stop. I clenched my eyes shut until all of a sudden the screaming stopped along with all other noises. I opened my eyes and saw I was back on the beach with the gods all looking down at me as Kane said.
"That is the fate that would befall not only the islands our people call home but the whole world."
"But how?"
"Lopaka was a mortal possessed by his desire for power and would not have stopped at just the islands." An image of the entrance to the realm of monsters appeared before me and then vanished. "With control over the monsters realm, Lopaka would have had no trouble travelling far beyond the reef to the lands beyond and conquering those who lived there." I shivered at the thought of those I called friends falling victim to Lopaka's madness. "By destroying him and his source of power you were able to stop this grim future and with your capture of his worshippers who knew his rituals you have prevented not only others from treading down the same path but also any chance of Lopaka's revival."
"His revival?"
"Indeed for his powers were great and with the necklace that still contained some of his essence his followers would be able to resurrect him from it."
"If the necklace is so dangerous then what should I do with it?"
"Take it with you back to your island and keep it safe."
"Wouldn't it be better if I destroyed it."
"It's not that simple but the magic that resides on your island shall slowly destroy the dark essence within it."
"Do you mean the magic in the statue of Toothless by the volcano."
"There is far more magic residing on your island then just that, which resides in the statue but this magic shall be revealed only when the time is right." I nodded knowing it's best not to question the gods when it came to these things.
"Alright, I trust you but why did you bring me here besides showing me the true danger Lopaka presented?" Kane smiled at me.
"Why to both thank you for your heroic deeds and to reward you for all you've done."
"Please I don't want any reward for what I've done." They all chuckled.
"You truly are a kindhearted mortal Hiccup just like the other gods have told us but it just shows how much you truly deserve these rewards and we shall not accept any refusal." I sighed knowing there was no way to refuse them.
"Alright I know from past experiences with gods it's a waist of time to argue so I'll accept whatever you give me."
"Very good Hiccup now let us begins." He raised his hand and the sand in front of me rose to create a pedestal made out of sand before the top sand began to roll down the pile to reveal a large fishhook. "This hook is a very powerful weapon Hiccup and like the other weapons from the gods may you use it well." I nodded and picked it up with my prosthetic before the top folded in on itself and then went into my arm while the sand collapsed on itself. "That is your first gift for your services but there is more to come." Another sand pile rose up and like before but this one was larger and taller than the last before all the sand sunk back into the ground to reveal white surfboard with grey engravings on it that looked familiar somehow. "This surfboard was created from one of the teeth of the shark demon you slayed and has many capabilities but like the hook these abilities are for you to discover on your own." I ran my hand over the smooth surface of the board and noticed what felt almost like a pulse as I smiled.
"Wicked but will I be able to use it to surf the waves for just fun?" They all chuckled before Kane answered.
"Of course since it may be powerful but it's still a surfboard." I smiled at the thought of riding the waves on my new board but it was then the sand rose again before the sand fell to the ground to reveal large tiki's that were about my fathers hight. "These guardian tiki's sleep now Hiccup but you shall be able to awaken them when we send you are returned to the mortal realm."
"May I ask what they can do?"
"They have many abilities Hiccup which you shall need to discover yourself by I can promise you that they shall obey your commands and are near indestructible but should they be damaged you can return them to their original states using the same method you used to awaken them."
"How do I awaken them?"
"You shall know but should they not have any orders to fill they will simply return to sleep until they receive new orders." I nodded. "Remember Hiccup they have no minds of their own and can only act when you have given them orders." I nodded to him before a goddess I recognized as Pele the goddess of volcanoes, fire, lightning and wind, walked forward smiling as she said.
"Time for me to give you a gift from me personally Hiccup Haddock."
"I am honored lady Pele."
She then got a smile on her face that made me a little nervous before she grabbed my shoulders and pulled me into a kiss. When she did this my eyes widened before I felt intense heat enter my body and soon it felt as if my body was being melted from the inside out before the pain just stopped. When Pele pulled away I looked at her shocked before I felt a pulse in my body and looked down to see my veins glowing orange before fading. I looked up at Pele for answers but she just gave me a smile and said.
"I've given you an immunity to heat, fire and lava." I raised an eyebrow hoping for a bit more detail to this gift. "In other words you can sit in the middle of a burning inferno and it will feel like a warm fire to you while never burning you and you shall be able to dive right into lava and swim through it as if it were just warm water." I smiled at this. "I figured you'd like it after your battle with the volcano's beast." I smiled.
"Not going to deny it will come in handy in the future lady Pele but does it mean I won't be able to enjoy the warmth of my hot springs or the warmth of the days sunlight." She smiled.
"Don't worry for it is only the extreme heats that this gift shall effect making them nothing more than a warm day."
"Thank you." It was then Kane asked Pele.
"Does this mean I can count on you to stop spying on Hiccup when he's taking a bath?" My eyes widened hearing this as Pele giggled before I asked.
"You've been spying on me when I take a bath?"
"What can I say, you're a very handsome mortal."
I just blushed as the gods chuckled before Kane raised his hand silencing them as Pele walked back to her spot as another large pile of sand rose up and reached my waist before the top sand slid down revealing a palm sized pendent with a lizard on it and a ocean blue crystal piece with a large lump sticking out and a small part going down like a slope. I picked them both up and examined them in my hands as Kane said.
"We believe you already know what the crystal is but the pendant is an addition to your island section that you shall have to release when the island has surfaced." I nodded before Kane raised his hand. "For your final gift we give to you our blessing." I dropped to my knees in pain grasping my prosthetic as I watched as a blue engraving that looked like waves with symbols formed beneath my other blessings before the pain vanished and the mark stopped glowing as Kane put his hand on my shoulder. "Take care of yourself Hiccup and do try to find yourself someone to share your life with."
Before I could reply there was a bright flash and I was back on the beach except now I could see multiple ships sailing towards me as I smiled recognizing them as the ships of Hawaiians who were most likely here to both pick me up along with the cult members. I smiled since this adventure was truly close to an end as soon as the members of the cult were all dealt with.
Ten days later
These past ten days have been very busy for me with the need to deal with the children of Lopaka who were each dealt with in someway by decision of the chiefs but they never told me what they'd done to them and I had the feeling I didn't want to know. I had also been busy figuring out what the gifts I was given from the gods could do and I was amazed at what I could do with them. With my hook I could pull the tides in to make taking my beached ships easier, I could let out a slash that would split a wave, when I ran it through the water the water would stick to it before I let loose a slash and send the water spinning like a spinning boomerang that was strong enough to cut through rock like a hot knife through butter and when I release it from my prosthetic it replaces my hand allowing me to launch it with the chain holding it with the difference being a rope launches from the handle extending its reach but I felt it could do more that I'd yet to figure out.
As for the tiki's, they were powerful after I awoken them using the stone of good fortune to awaken them. I did so by placing it on the center of the necklace carved onto their chests where an indent of my stone was imbedded. After I did so to the first one an ocean blue glow went through the cracks in its body and before it stood up from its balled up position and looked down at me not moving. I tried talking to it but got no reply but when I told it to walk to a tree and back it did so without hesitation showing me that it was just a puppet under my command. It was rather sad in a way but I knew the gods had a reason for this so I activated the other and began seeing what they could do and I was impressed with their abilities. Together they had no problem lifting up one of the large ships as if it were light as a feather so it's obvious they were helpful when carrying heavy loads around and to say they were tough would be an understatement since a few of the tribes warriors asked if they could see how skilled the tiki's were in battle and I granted them permission. The fight was quick and I wish I could say painless but that would be lying since I don't think multiple broken ribs, arms and legs could be considered painless for the men who challenged them but the tiki's walked away without a scratch. I figure they'll be good for helping me out around the island in some ways. Also it turns out I really have been given an immunity to fire and lava since I tested it out by first holding my real hand over an open flame and all the flame did was move around it as if it were iron. After that I took a risk and went to the volcano where I was surprised to discover I couldn't even feel the heat and when I put my index finger into the lava it felt like mud that was as warm as the hot springs I bath in. After dipping my whole arm in and not feeling any different I took the risk and lowered myself in and felt as if I was lowering myself into warm mud and nothing more. It was amazing and I had a good laugh when some of the tribesmen came looking for me and found me swimming in lava. It was also a major shock for Toothless who was horrified when I jumped into the lava and came back out unharmed. The look on his face will always be a fond and funny memory for me to enjoy from time to time.
When it comes to the surfboard it is an amazing thing with the abilities it has and I'm not just talking about how it cuts through the waves so easily. One of the abilities I assume was to never allow me to lose my balance since when I surfed on it, it felt as if the board was a part of me and there was no way to describe it other than it giving me the same feeling I got when I was riding Toothless. As for its abilities I discovered that when I felt threatened the bottom at the front would open up like a shark mouth and launch a thin white blade in the direction the boards pointed at before the blade turns into small shark that could rip through a ships hull. Sadly when I learnt this I accidently ended up sinking two fishing ships that were just coming in to dock and the sailors weren't too happy about it. Another power I learnt it has is when I leave it in the water it can turn into large shark that'll do what I order it to and when not given an order it just swims around until I call it back and then it turns back into my board but I still gave him the name Wave Chomper since unlike my tiki's he was more of a living creature. As for my lizard pendent I still had no idea what it was for but I had the feeling I'd know what it was when my new island section was taken care of.
Besides all that I've also become an horary member of each of the tribes and given a shark tooth and sea shell necklace to show it and I was even given a tattoo on my upper left shoulder of Toothless except it was done in Hawaiian style. Now I was using Wave Chomper to surf the inside of a large wave and smiled as I looked around at the flowing water with a smile on my face since being in the wave was this indescribable feeling. Lately I'd been surfing often since I enjoyed it so much and with me leaving tomorrow I wouldn't be able to enjoy it since the waves on Berk weren't that great for surfing. When I came out of the wave I looked towards the beach and saw Pika waving me over on the beach and turned Wave Chomper to the beach so I could see what he wanted. Once I surfed into the shallow waters I hopped into the water and held onto Wave Chomper while he turned into his shark form before I told him to go for a swim for now and he took off. When I got to the beach where Pika was waiting for me smiling as I asked.
"What up Pika?"
"Hiccup your time here comes to an end tomorrow but that doesn't mean the good times together end yet." I nodded and gestured for him to continue. "So in honor of all you've done for the people of not only Hawaii but all the other islands we are holding a goodbye Luau in your honor with all the chiefs of the other islands coming to join us with some of their council members." I smiled and shook my head.
"I don't deserve such a send off."
"Don't be so modest Hiccup when you deserve so much more for all you've done." I shook my head.
"Well knowing from past experiences me telling you not to is a waste of breath so I'll just ask one thing." He raised an eyebrow as I smiled. "What should I wear?" He laughed.
"What you wore at our last luau will do if you still have it."
"Of course I do."
"In that case I will see you tonight at the celebration." I smiled as I watched him walk off before going to find Toothless who had been playing with the local children who absolutely adored him.
Nightfall
The party was in full swing with everybody enjoying the food around the bonfire or enjoying the hula dance being performed by five girls with one coming from each island. I was sat between the chiefs with Pika and Alika on my right and Kaili, Keone and Makoa on my left. I took a bite out of the roast pig that was on the plate in front of me and smiled at the taste and how juicy it was compared to boar meat. I looked at the movements of the hula and I had to say it was a nice dance to enjoy watching and I had to say it was rather relaxing to see the dancers move to the beat of the drums. It was then the drums stopped and the dancers stepped back as the chiefs all stood up as Pika said.
"TONIGHT WE CELEBRATE OUR FRIENDSHIP WITH OUR NEW ALLIE AND HERO HICCUP HADDOCK WHO WILL SADLY BE RETURNING HOME TO HIS OWN ISLAND TOMORROW!" There were multiple groans and cries at this until he raised his hands silencing them. "IT IS SAD I KNOW BUT IT WOULD BE SELFISH OF US TO KEEP HIM TO OURSELVES BUT NEVER THE LESS WE SHALL NOT SEND HIM OFF EMPTY HANDED!" He gestured me to stand up and walk forward so I did before the women who performed walked up each holding something before Alaika said.
"From the island of Molokai we give you one of our ceremonial tiki masks may it serve you well." The girl from Molokai walked forward holding the mask smiling at me before passing it to me and giving me a wink as she left making me blush while Kaili stepped forward.
"From the island of Kauai we give you one of our spears made by our finest craftsman for your collection." Then Keone stepped forward.
"And from the people of Oahu we add to your collection a throwing axe made by our finest craftsman." Each of the women placed the weapons on top of the tiki mask before Makoa stepped forward.
"From the people of Maui we give you one of the conch shells we use to both make music and as an alarm." The women walked over andplaced it on top of my weapons and mask before giving me a smile and wink as she walked away and Pika walked forward.
"And from the people of Hawaii you have the necklace that now dangles around your neck." I nodded and said.
"Thank you all for these gifts, for allowing me to stay on your islands, allowing me to learn your customs but above all thank you for treating me like a normal person which is a luxury I don't get to enjoy that often when visiting new places." Alaika replied.
"Hiccup in your short time here you have saved all of our people from a horrible fate and for that we shall always be grateful." I smiled.
"Just doing what I'm beginning to think is my job since every time I go to a new place I have to deal with some life threatening creatures or insane power hungry villains bent on domination." Keone replied.
"Well at least you can't say your trips are boring." We all chuckled at this.
"True enough." After that we enjoyed the rest of the celebration with the food, dancing and talks.
Three weeks
We left Hawaii three weeks ago and in that time not much has happened on my ship since I left besides occasionally stopping on islands for supplies. Other than that I mostly spent my time flying Toothless, surfing the water on Wave Cruncher, practicing with my hook and not much else since there wasn't that much for me to do on my ship. Other than think back on when I left the island and the goodbyes I shared with the chiefs who gave me one last final gift of one of their ships for me to enjoy and so I didn't lose practice on how to use them. Said ship is being towed behind my ship so I didn't have to sail it or risk the chance of loosing it on my travels home. I remember how before I left I was sure to open up a portal door on a large boulder in the jungle so I would be able to come and go as I pleased. I knew that despite the monsters, insane sorcerer and evil cult I had a pretty good trip and I was looking forward to coming back sometime for a nice peaceful vacation since so far it's been the only place where I'm treated like a normal person despite my adventures there. I also knew I'd definitely be visiting there during devastating winter not because of the cold since the winter didn't affect my island but because of the people who want to come to my island to get away from the cold and won't stop pestering me about it but I couldn't blame them since when I was young I wanted to get away from the cold as well. It was then my island came into view and I smiled as I called Toothless over and said.
"We're almost home bud." He just crooned as my scauldrens pulled the ships forward.
1 hour later
It's been an hour since we got back to the island and in that time all my dragons and animals learnt I was back, my ship has been unloaded with my trophies now placed in my trophy room either hung up on the wall or placed on pedestals, my gifts from the chiefs were put away with the weapons going into the armory, the mask hung up in my art room, my conch shell put on a shelf in my library and my necklace with the trophies, Wave Chomper was somewhere in the ocean swimming around the island and my tiki's were waiting in my library after helping unload everything. Now I was walking up to the statue of Toothless with Toothless walking next to me on my left and the crystal piece in my right hand, glowing and shaking, as I got closer. Soon enough the crystal model of my island was released from the ground and the crystal piece flew from my grip and slid into its on the edge of the main island. The ground shook as the new part of the island grew from the ground except there was also another volcano growing in the center of it and this one looked slightly bigger than the one I was currently at. I smiled and mounted Toothless and said.
"Let's go check out this new island section bud." He growled and nodded before we took off.
4 hours later
These last four hours have been busy with everything that's happened with my islands new addition and I wasn't just busy with its exploration but I did enjoy it. To describe the new section I could only say it was relaxing with the waters being crystal blue, the sand on the beaches being white, the plants and foliage being green and the volcano being just what my island needed which brings us to what I'd been busy doing. Turns out the volcano was only shorter than my original volcano but it was a whole lot wider than the original which brought a smile to my face, especially when I found multiple small caverns in the walls with paths around the sides. When I explored it I found a pedestal with a message engraved on it that read.
Dear Hiccup
I figured you'd need this volcano to help out the heat loving dragons on your island including that Greendeath of yours so I hope this helps.
Hope to see you again handsome
Love the goddess Pele
The message then sunk into the ground as if it were never there and I knew what this volcano was made for and I spent an hour moving Volcana and the singetails into the volcano which they were very happy about since my other volcano was very cramped and Damen was getting a little uneasy since they occasionally nearly hit the tree he was guarding. I knew it would take Volcana and the singetails some time to settle in but I'd be there to help them anyway I could. I don't think it would be too difficult to help them settle in though since the singetails seemed overjoyed at the new volcano and Volcana nearly jumped into the lava when I she saw the new volcano. I was happy to see her so comfortable since this volcano had a lot more room for her to swim around and grow in and she didn't have to worry about bumping into the small island with Damen's tree.
As for the forests at the bottom of the volcano it was like a normal Hawaiian forest with a grove full of coconut trees so I would be able to harvest a few to enjoy. A little ways past the coconut grove I found a small clearing where I planned to build a traditional Hawaiian shrine to prey to the gods. On the beach I was planning to make a small shack where I could lay down and relax in some shade with a drink as I enjoy the waves, which on this part looked to be great for surfing and I was looking forward to testing them out with Wave Chomper. As for the lizard pendant I figured out what it was for when like the crystal island pieces, it began pulling me towards something and glowing when I brought it to the island section. When I got to the part it seemed to be pulling me to I found a large pond that the pendant was pulled into the pond where there was a dark green glow as the water began to rapidly bubble before a giant greyish green lizard with red hair like spines going down its back rose up from the water. I backed up seeing it and recognized it as a Mo'o, which was a Hawaiian species of dragon that was said to be guardians of fresh water sources and also be shape shifters. I was frozen in place as it looked at me before it began walking towards me making me back up a little until it reached me and began sniffing me and then just turned around and walked back into the water as a stone pedestal with a message carved on top of it rose out of the water. I walked over towards it and read.
Dear Hiccup
The Mo'o that is currently with is a guardian dragon who shall look after this part of your island but don't worry as she knows you to be the islands master and in turn her master as well so she will not harm you unless you threaten her but we trust you won't abuse her. As for befriending her that will all be up to you and we wish you luck Hiccup.
Signed the Hawaiian gods
When I finished reading the pedestal sunk back into the water before I looked up at the Mo'o who was staring at me from the water as I smiled at her and said.
"How's about we name you Moana?" She just gave a growl and nod. "I'm hoping we can become good friends girl and I look forward to spending time with you in the future."
She just growled and nodded before I walked up to her and gave her a rub on the nose and left to explore the rest of the island. After that Toothless and I made our way to Berk and then to the great hall where everyone was having lunch so I could let them know I was back and what had happened. As expected everyone was happy to see me back and wanted to know what happened to me on my latest adventure so I took my usual table and told all those present everything that had happened which brings us to where I am now. Sitting down on my chair, finishing off my drink after answering multiple questions asked by everyone. As usual I had to deal with Ruffnut flirting with me and asking if she could come with me next time since she looks good in her swimsuit. I shivered in disgust at that image passing through my mind before her parents dragged her off as Gobber walked up and said.
"You know lad perhaps you should take some time off from travelling into the great unknown and maybe just enjoy some time closer to home or maybe revisit some of the places you've already been to."
"Yeah you're right Gobber but if I stay in the archipelago what can I do?"
"Well you could come back to Berk and help old Gobber out in the forge again, maybe visit your relatives or allies like the Berserkers or maybe you could just enjoy some time relaxing and enjoying what the archipelago has to offer." I rubbed my chin in thought.
"You do raise some good points Gobber but I can't let myself get sloppy with my combat skills." My dad then walked up.
"Well then you could use some time to train son but it'd be nice if you spent a little more time in the village." I shrugged.
"You both raise some good points but we'll have to wait and see how things go." They nodded before they sat down at my table and we began talking.
AN: The reason why he went to Hawaii was for the volcano piece since his other volcano was made to house the tree and Volcana was getting too big to stay there with all the singetails and Damen. Anyway I'll be putting up a poll to see what you would like to see him do next and if you don't see anything you like the PM me so we can talk about what you'd like. Till then enjoy your day and please FOR THE LOVE OF ODIN REMEMBER TO REVIEW since I've got so many faves but lucky to get around five reviews.
