Author's Note:
Hello everyone! Here's the next chapter for Earth's Mightiest Huntsmen. Once again, I have to thank everyone for your continued support. Not only have we gotten a TV Tropes page recently (which you're more than welcome to help build), but we also just recently passed the 100 story favorites milestone! Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever guessed that a fanfic that I wrote would reach this level of popularity. So thank you all.
And now, it's time to answer some reviews.
SuperSaiyanFever: The more I read up on Doom's abilities and what his armor can do, the more unstoppable I've realized he is. It's amazing how he's actually lost in Marvel Comics with all the stuff he can do. And yes, this means that no one from the RWBY universe would stand up against him. At least from our heroes. Jury's still out on how Salem would do against him.
EndeavorT: All I'll say on this is that this matches what happened to Ms. Marvel in the comics decades ago, and served as a turning point for both Carol Danvers and the character that put her in this state. Those who know their Marvel history (or with access to the internet) will probably remember the character. But I'll also say that this particular character will have a role to play in a later arc.
Noob6: Doom does pretty much what Doom wants to do in order to achieve his goals. That's part of what makes him such a great character.
Blackmetalzane22: Ruby and Spider-Man's interactions were really fun to write, and I hope I can do more with them further down the line. And you're right, there are other characters that did not land in fun places. You'll see later on.
Guest: Yes, both the Negative Zone and Avengers Academy will be involved in later arcs.
Red Scorpion: To be honest, I haven't really come up with any good songs for most of these arcs. However, if you look on my profile, you'll see the song I picked to be the overall theme song of the story (think of it as a song that would be used for an anime style opening for this story) as well as a song I think works for the first arc. I haven't really found anything good for arcs two and three, but I do believe I've picked out a good one for arc four.
CRUDEN: Indeed.
Thank you all for your continued support. Now, let's get back to the story.
Avengers Mansion—September 29
"I've made some dinner," Jarvis announced as he entered the dining hall with a cart full of food. He looked around, seeing only Weiss and Jaune there. "Where is Miss Rose?"
"I think she went to the roof," Jaune answered, standing up. "I'll go get her." He left the room, leaving Weiss alone with Jarvis.
"Tea?" Jarvis offered, holding up a teapot. She slowly nodded, allowing him to pour her a cup. "You seemed troubled, Miss Schnee," he noted.
Weiss took a sip from her teacup. "I'm just…worried about my friends. I wish I could be there to help get them out."
"Captain Rogers only did what he thought was best," Jarvis told her. "He's responsible for your safety for the moment, until we can find a way to get you home."
Weiss put her teacup down. "I just hate being so helpless—not being able to do anything to help Nora and Ren. Being stuck without Dust, meaning my Semblance is just about useless. Putting my faith in strangers to save my friends' lives. It's all a bit much."
Jarvis offered her a comforting smile. "You're not alone in those feelings. The people of Earth often have to put a lot of their faith and trust in the Avengers and heroes like them—people they don't know personally. It can be quite scary to put your trust in strangers. But I can tell you this: the Avengers have not yet failed to save the lives they intend to save. And they will not fail this time."
"As for your abilities...most of the Avengers also had to overcome restrictions on their powers, learn how to fight without them if they had to. You are more than your powers and abilities. You are a true warrior, a hero—and someone that is capable of great things."
Weiss was quiet, pondering the butler's words. "Besides," Jarvis added. "If you'd like, while you're staying here, I'm sure Captain Rogers or one of the other Avengers would be more than happy to help build up your skills in hand-to-hand combat."
"Really?" Weiss asked.
"Miss Rose has already started to improve in her combat skills without her weapon."
"Really? You convinced Ruby to train without Crescent Rose?"
Jarvis smiled slightly. "She does seem rather attached to it."
Weiss managed a smile. "Thanks, Jarvis. I think I needed this. You…remind me a lot of someone I knew back on Remnant."
"A friend of yours?"
"Our own butler—Klein. He…well, he was kind to me. Kinder than my father ever was." Weiss brushed her hair back slightly. "I really hope he's okay. We were out of contact with Atlas ever since Ultron's attack began. I don't even know if it's still in one piece."
"I can't answer that for you, Miss Schnee," Jarvis admitted after a moment. "All I can offer you is this advice: keep having faith. Hope and faith are some of the most powerful tools a hero could have."
He put a hand on Weiss' shoulder. "Keep your chin up. One way or another, we'll find a way to free your world."
Jaune found Ruby on the roof of the mansion, just as he thought. "Jarvis says dinner's ready," he announced.
Ruby nodded, keeping her eyes out on the setting sun and not saying a word.
"You okay, Ruby?" Jaune asked.
"I'm fine," she said quietly.
Jaune hesitated, but then sat down next to her. "You're wondering if you made the right call not trying to go with the Avengers to get Nora and Ren."
"I know the Avengers can get the job done," Ruby eventually said. "I know they can. I just…I just don't know if we did the right thing. I want to be there to help them get out…but I also know we can't stand up to Doom."
Jaune turned his head to face her. "This is about what happened with Ultron, isn't it?"
Ruby seemed to deflate slightly. "We went out to save CFVY and ran into something we couldn't even scratch. We couldn't save them—and not being able to personally save Nora and Ren just makes things even worse."
"Believe me, I know how you feel," Jaune told her. "Not only are Nora and Ren my friends, they're also my teammates. Not being able to go after them myself isn't a good feeling."
"Do you think I made the right decision?" Ruby asked.
"Well, you seemed like you were confident with your decision earlier. And…you were right. With how little we know about Earth and its villains, and how bad this Doom guy seems to be…we wouldn't stand any chance. It's like you said—he's worse than anyone or anything else we've faced on Remnant. He's not like the Grimm or the White Fang. No one off Remnant is."
Ruby was quiet.
"But we can beat them," Jaune went on. "This isn't like with Ultron. We've got powerful allies now. They can continue to train us, just like they've been training you this past week. We will get stronger. And soon enough, we'll be able to help them, no matter how big the threat is."
Ruby finally managed a smile. "You're right, Jaune. I guess I've just been…questioning if I'm doing the right thing."
"As someone who's probably second guessed more decisions than any other team leader, I can tell you that you made the right call," Jaune told her. "We may have been angry at the start—but you were right. The Avengers are the only ones that can make it."
"And I trust them to do it." Ruby stood up. "Thanks, Jaune."
Jaune stood up with her. "You going to be okay?"
"Yeah…I think so."
"Then come on, before the nice meal that Jarvis made us goes cold."
Avengers Quinjet—September 29
"We're two minutes out from Castle Doom," Natasha reported.
"Remember, our primary objective will be to locate these kids and get them out of there," Steve spoke up as the Avengers readied themselves. "Hank, Jan—that's going to be your job. The rest of us will keep Doom busy."
"Aye," Thor agreed, raising Mjolnir, "Let us show him the might of the Avengers."
"Just be careful in there," Tony warned. "We're not here to start a war with Latveria or Doom. We go in, we get Nora and Ren, we get out. Simple as that. So try not to blow up the entire castle."
"Don't forget," Steve added. "We're on our own for this one. We can't call in backup from S.H.I.E.L.D. We get captured, there's nothing anyone can do for us."
"Then let's not get captured," Clint said, counting his arrows. "I'd rather not spend the rest of my life stuck in a Latverian dungeon."
"Yeah, doesn't really sound like much fun," Jan agreed with a shudder.
"We do this right, and we won't have to worry about it," Tony told her.
"We're at the target coordinates," Natasha announced.
Steve stood up. "Open the hatch, Widow."
The Quinjet's hatch slowly opened, revealing Castle Doom below them.
"Thor?" Steve turned to the Asgardian. "Make a door."
Doom sat calmly on his throne as the ceiling burst open in a shower of rubble and lightning. A second later, Thor landed before him, followed closely by Iron Man, Captain America, Vision, Black Panther, and Hawkeye. "Doom!" Thor bellowed.
"Avengers," Doom said coldly. "You are trespassing in Latveria. Explain yourselves."
"All we want are the two warriors from Remnant that you have prisoner here," Iron Man declared. "We know you have them. Hand them over."
Doom slowly stood up. "None can make demands of Doom in his own country."
"Again with the first person talk," Hawkeye said, "All it really does is make you look even more like a supervillain than you already are."
"Silence, archer, before I make you."
"We do not wish to fight if we can avoid it," Black Panther spoke up calmly. "All we wish to do is remove your prisoners and reunite them with their friends. Once they are in our custody, we will leave."
"They attacked my forces. That makes them enemies of Latveria," Doom responded. "Now…get out of my country."
"Victor, please," Captain America said. "I know we've had our differences over the years, but holding Nora and Ren here gains you nothing. They belong with their friends, preparing to fight for the future of their world."
"Their world has already fallen to the villain you yourselves created," Doom replied. "Tell me…do they know who was responsible for Ultron's creation?"
"Enough talk, Doom," Thor shot back. "Hand them over or suffer my wrath."
Doom crossed his arms. "As I have said, thunderer…none may make demands of Doom."
"So be it." Thor spun Mjolnir and threw it at Doom. He didn't even flinch as the hammer bounced off his force field. In response to this, Doom held up a glowing fist, ready for a fight.
"Avengers, attack!" Captain America ordered, and the heroes charged forward to meet Latveria's ruler in battle.
"Did you feel that?" Ren asked.
"Hmm?" Nora sleepily raised her head. She was still feeling the effects of whatever weapon Doom used to drain her aura.
"The castle is shaking," Ren told her. "I think there's some fighting going on up there."
"Ruby and the others, maybe?"
"Possibly. More likely it is those 'Avengers' that Doom mentioned."
"How does that help us?"
"If they are here to face Doom, they might come to break us out," Ren told her, shakily getting to his feet. "Be ready."
"Yeah…I'm ready…just give me…a few minutes." Nora struggled to get up, but collapsed again. Ren moved to her side, helping her up.
"Easy, Nora," he said.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," she insisted.
Ren held back any comment. He knew that she was far from fine. The aura draining weapon had taken its toll on both of them. He could feel it recovering slowly, but it was slow going, and he was feeling exhausted because of it. But he had to remain awake and alert if he was going to lead Nora out of the castle alive.
A small buzzing sound soon filled his ears. He looked in the direction of the noise and saw what appeared to be two small insects hovering in front of the bars. Suddenly, to his astonishment, the insects grew into two full sized humans.
"Hi," the woman in yellow said. "Are you Nora and Ren?"
"That's us," Nora confirmed.
"Who are you?" Ren asked.
"My name is Janet," the woman said, nodding to the man in red with a silver helmet next to her. "That's my husband, Hank. We're with the Avengers, and we're here to get you out of here."
"How do you know our names?" Ren asked.
"We have three of your friends waiting for you back home," Hank explained. "Ruby, Jaune, and Weiss are anxious to see you safe and sound."
"Then they're alive?"
"Alive and well." Janet raised her hand and fired a yellow bolt that broke the lock on the doors, allowing Hank to open it. "Come on, let's get you two out of here."
"What about our weapons?" Nora asked.
"Do you know where they are?"
"I last saw them in Doom's throne room," Ren told her.
"Well, that's both good and bad," Hank muttered.
"We'll make sure to get them," Janet promised. "But right now, we should—"
"Halt!" Everyone turned around to see several of Doom's robots marching towards them, weapons raised.
"Uh oh," Hank said.
"Are you two able to fight?" Janet asked Nora and Ren.
"We're a little weak at the moment," Ren warned, getting into a fighting stance. "Doom did something to weaken us. But we can still hold our own."
"Good," Janet said. "Because we're going to have to fight our way out of here."
"Cap, we've got them!" Jan called through the comms. "But we're getting some trouble from Doom's Servo-Guards. Gonna be a few minutes before we get up there."
"Understood," Steve responded. "We'll keep Doom busy."
"The kids want their weapons back. They might be in the throne room somewhere."
"Copy. We'll keep an eye out."
"On your left, Cap!" Steve quickly raised his shield to block a blast of energy from Doom. He then threw it at him, which Doom dodged before firing more blasts at him, forcing him to run to avoid getting hit.
Clint slid in, firing an arrow directly at Doom's head. He simply raised a hand, stopping the arrow in midair before flinging it at Tony, blasting him back when the arrow exploded. He then sent a blast that sent Clint flying.
T'Challa rushed in, slashing at Doom with his vibranium claws in expert combat form. Doom countered and blocked each one of the strikes, keeping the Wakandan king at bay. Eventually, he was able to grab both of his hands and headbutt him, sending him stumbling back.
Steve tried rushing in to take his place, but Doom was quicker, lifting him up with his telekinesis and throwing him aside.
"Enough!" Thor flew at Doom, slamming Mjolnir into him. Once again, however, all he impacted was the force field bubble around him. He raised a hand and sent a sonic wave that knocked the god senseless.
Tony fired a volley of missiles at Doom with his suit. He raised his hand and directed the missiles away, straight into Vision, who had no time to phase through them, resulting in him being blown into the wall.
"Okay, this isn't working!" Clint shouted, firing a volley of arrows that Doom deflected with ease. "He's not even winded!"
"Keep on him," Steve ordered. "The others need more time."
"Yeah, easier said than done," Tony responded, firing multiple repulsor blasts at Doom, none of them seeming to do any damage to him.
"Just keeping fighting," Steve said, throwing his shield at Doom, bouncing it off him as he ran, catching the shield and slamming into him. Doom blocked with his arms before expertly beating him back.
Vision fired a beam from his forehead at Doom, which he countered with his own beam from his finger. The two beams collided as both combatants tried to overpower the other with their power. But Doom quickly proved himself to be the stronger, forcing his laser beam through Vision's and blasting him aside.
T'Challa made his move, leaping onto Doom's back and trying to bring him to the ground. But Doom simply tilted his head and electrified his armor, shocking T'Challa so much that he forced him off.
Steve cursed under his breath as he grabbed his shield again. They weren't going to last much longer against Doom. They needed to get Nora and Ren out of there—now.
Ren sent a kick into one of the Servo-Guards, knocking it against the wall, where it broke into pieces. Next to him, Nora threw another one of the robots into the floor, where Hank stomped its head clean off.
Janet flew around over their heads, sending sting blasts into multiple robots and either forcing them back or making them miss their targets with their own weapons, letting the others finish them off. But for every Servo-Guard they destroyed, another seemed to take its place.
Ren knew that they couldn't keep this up forever. Both he and Nora had been severely weakened by both Doom's new weapon and the week they had spent in captivity. He could feel fatigue setting in slowly but surely. They had to break through these lines of robots fast, or they would probably wind up right back in their cell.
"Cap says we gotta push through and get back to the throne room!" Janet reported. "They can't hold Doom back much longer!"
"Understood," Hank responded, twisting a dial on his belt. "I'll clear a path." He suddenly began to grow until he was almost twice his size. He then ran directly at the Servo-Guards, smashing them aside as he plowed through them.
"Stay behind us," Janet ordered Nora and Ren, flying after her husband. Ren nodded at Nora and quickly followed the two heroes out up the stairs and to the main floor of the castle.
The sounds of fighting got louder and louder as they approached the throne room. As Hank, now shrunken back down to his regular size, reached for the doors, they were blown open as a purple clad archer flew through them, landing on the ground.
"Oh, hey Hank," the archer said, getting back to his feet. "Nice of you to join us."
"Ran into a little trouble downstairs, Hawkeye," Hank said. "How are things up here."
"About as bad as you would expect," Hawkeye responded, nocking another arrow on his bow. "Can we go home yet?"
"We still need our weapons," Nora spoke up. "I'm kind of attached to Magnhild."
"Good luck getting past him," Hawkeye spoke, gesturing into the room. Ren peered in and saw a ferocious battle taking place. Multiple different costumed warriors were darting around Doom, firing lasers, missiles, rockets, and blasts of lightning at him. None of their attacks seemed to be doing anything to him. Doom himself didn't even seem fazed by them.
He then spotted the weapons, still on the table that he had last seen them. "I'll get them," he said.
"No, I'll get them!" Nora took off running in the direction of the weapons.
"Nora, wait!" Ren shouted, taking off after her. But Doom had already heard them both, turning around to face them. He raised both his hands and fired several concussive blasts at the pair, one of which struck Nora in the shoulder and sent her sprawling. She hit the side wall hard, her aura shattering almost instantly.
"Nora!" Ren moved to her side as the hero in the flying metal suit moved against Doom, firing several more blasts from his palms. As the tyrant turned his attention back to him, Ren knelt next to Nora, checking the damage.
"Mph…I'm okay…" Nora tried to get back on her feet, but sank to her knees, clutching her shoulder and groaning in pain. Ren instantly saw that it was dislocated.
"No, you're not," Ren told her as Janet landed next to them. He turned to her. "Do you have an escape vehicle nearby?"
"We've got a Quinjet just outside the castle," she answered.
"Then take Nora and get her there," Ren ordered, getting back to his feet.
"Wait—Ren!" Nora cried.
"I'll be fine," Ren insisted. "I'll get our weapons."
"Ren—" But Janet was already grabbing Nora gently and leading her away. Ren turned away, making his way to the table with their weapons once more. Doom, noticing this, threw aside a hero in a black cat outfit and fired several more blasts at him, forcing him to slide and dodge around every shot.
"Focus, Ren," he silently told himself. "Get the weapons, then get out of here."
He reached the table, first grabbing StormFlower and clipping the twin guns to his belt. As he grabbed Magnhild, Doom suddenly teleported in front of him, backhanding him and knocking him to the ground.
"Doom!" Hank grew once more, nearly taking up all the space in the throne room and slamming a hand down on top of him. "Leave the kid alone!"
Doom raised his hands up, stopping Hank's hand from smashing him and lifting it back up. He then two blasts from his hands that knocked the giant off balance, causing him to fall flat on his back. Luckily, he managed to shrink back down to normal size before landing.
Ren got back to his feet, lifting Magnhild up as Doom faced him once more, hands glowing with power. He ignored the fatigue in his joints as he pointed Nora's weapon at him, ready for a fight that he was surely going to lose.
"Uh uh." The metal warrior landed in between Ren and Doom, raising a palm and aiming it directly at Doom. "We're leaving, Doom. If you were smart, you wouldn't try to push this any further. We got what we came for."
"Listen to the man, Victor." This came from a man in a red, white, and blue outfit carrying a shield with a similar color scheme. "None of us want this fight to continue longer than it already has. We're leaving with the Remnantians."
Doom stared coldly at him. For a moment, Ren thought that he was going to attack regardless. But then, to his surprise, he turned around and walked back towards his throne. "Take your Avengers, Rogers," Doom ordered, sitting back down. "And get out of my country."
The shield wielding hero nodded. "Thank you, Victor."
"Come on, kid," the metal warrior told Ren, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Let's get you out of here."
Avengers Mansion—September 29
Ruby jerked up as the comms in the Avengers' war room began to beep. "Avengers Mansion, come in," Steve's voice came in.
Ruby lunged for the console. "Cap? Steve—what happened?"
"Did you find them?" Weiss asked as she and Jaune got there as well.
"I've got good news for you all," Steve answered in response. "We got both Nora and Ren and made it out safely."
The three of them let out collective sighs of relief. "Are they okay?" Jaune asked.
"A little banged up, but they'll be fine," he replied. "We should be back soon. But I need you to send a message to Doctor Jane Foster. We need her to look over both of them, just in case."
"That's the doctor that helped me out, right?" Ruby asked.
"That's right. F.R.I.D.A.Y. can help you make the call."
"You've got it, Cap. And…thank you. For everything."
"Of course. See you soon." Steve ended the call.
"They made it," Jaune said, leaning a hand against the holotable. "Thank goodness."
Avengers Quinjet—September 29
"Ouch!" Nora yelped in pain as the cat warrior, T'Challa, examined her shoulder.
"Your shoulder is dislocated," he announced, taking it gently. "This will only take a moment."
"Why? What are you—" Nora's question was cut off as T'Challa popped her shoulder back into place. She let out a cry of pain. "A little warning next time?!"
"Warning would only have increased the pain," T'Challa told her simply.
"Well that still hurt!"
Ren shook his head slightly before turning his attention to Steve. "Are Ruby and the others okay?" he asked.
"They're fine," Steve answered with a smile. "Ruby's been with us about a week, and Jaune and Weiss only got here earlier today."
"And…has there been any sign of the others?"
"I'm afraid not," Steve admitted. "But I promise you, just like I promised Ruby—we'll help you find them. And then we'll help you save your home from Ultron."
"I appreciate that." Ren turned his head to the back of the Quinjet.
"Something wrong?" Steve asked.
"Why'd he do it?" Ren asked. "Why did Doom let us go?"
"I've stopped trying to figure Doom out long ago," Steve said. "My guess is that he already got what he wanted from you two and saw no reason to keep you there, especially once you were out of your cell. Plus, he has more important things to do than fight an endless battle with those he sees as beneath him."
"And because of that, he let us all go?"
"What you have to understand about Doom is that his wants and desires often only make sense to him," he explained. "He is a tyrant bent on world domination because he believes that this is the only way the human race is saved from complete destruction."
"What an arrogant jerk," Nora commented.
"Luckily, whenever he tries to make moves outside of his own country, we can do enough to push him back," Steve went on. "We try not to go into Latveria unless we have to, such as today."
"I appreciate what you did, Captain," Ren thanked him. "Nora and I are grateful for the rescue."
"Ruby and the others wanted to come," Steve added. "But we thought it best that they stay behind."
"You made the right call." Ren closed his eyes. "Doom, Ultron—they're all far too powerful for us to face alone."
"That's why we're letting you all stay with us for now," Steve told him. "We're working on getting an alternative living space ready, but it will take some time. Until then, you'll be staying with us."
"You're too kind."
Steve gave him another smile. "We're the good guys, after all. This is what we do."
Avengers Mansion—September 29
Ruby could hardly contain her excitement as the Quinjet landed in the hanger. She was so excited that her foot was tapping rapidly.
"Calm down, Ruby," Weiss told her.
"But our friends are finally back," Ruby reminded her. "Aren't you a little excited."
Weiss let out a small, slightly annoyed sigh. "Okay, maybe a little."
"I knew it!"
The Quinjet's ramp slowly lowered, revealing a disheveled looking Nora and Ren. Both of them looked dirty and exhausted, but otherwise okay.
Ruby let out a happy squeal and sped forward with her Semblance, wrapping her arms around the two of them. "Oh, it's so good to see you!" she cried.
"Ruby—you're kind of crushing us," Ren gasped. Ruby quickly backed off, letting Ren dust himself off. "It's good to see you," he said. "All of you."
"Good to see you too, Ren," Jaune told him, walking up and clasping hands with him. "You don't look so good though."
"Being prisoners of a metal faced tyrant isn't any fun," Nora commented. "We didn't even get proper rest!"
"Yep. Same old Nora," Weiss muttered.
"As much as I'm enjoying this reunion," Steve said as he stepped out with the rest of the Avengers. "I think it'd be best if we take Nora and Ren to the infirmary. Is Doctor Foster here?"
"Doctor Foster arrived just ten minutes ago," F.R.I.D.A.Y. reported.
Nora startled at the voice. "Ah! Who's that? Is this place haunted?!"
"That's just the mansion AI," Ruby explained. "She's cool."
"So, Jane is here?" Thor questioned, a small look of longing in his eyes.
Jaune seemed to pick up on this. "Thor…are you in love with this doctor?"
Thor smiled slightly at him before moving off. "Come, Lie Ren and Nora Valkyrie—I will lead you to meet with Jane."
"Oh yeah…he definitely likes her," Weiss said as Thor led Ren and Nora away.
"You three should get some rest too," Steve suggested. "It's getting late, and I want to start training everyone together tomorrow."
"What about—" Ruby started.
"I'm sure there will be plenty of time to catch up with your friends once they've had plenty of rest and a hot meal," Steve interrupted gently.
Ruby let out a small yawn. "Yeah…okay." The three of them left the hangar, heading back up to the main floor of the mansion. Earlier that day, both Weiss and Jaune had chosen rooms next to Ruby's own.
"What kind of training should we expect?" Jaune asked as he was about to step into his own room.
"The painful kind," Ruby answered.
Jaune let out a small groan. "Yay."
Ruby giggled. "Goodnight, Jaune." She slipped into her room, locking the door behind her and collapsing on the bed.
Nora and Ren were back. Four of her friends had made their way back to her. But there were still three of them missing. And Ruby knew she wouldn't be truly happy until Blake, Yang and Pyrrha had been found as well.
"Oh, Yang," she thought. "Where are you?"
Elsewhere
The Kree warrior let out a growl of frustration, slamming his hand on the table and drawing the attention of everyone in the bar. "I refuse to do business with the likes of you!" he shouted.
The Skrull stood up in anger. "And if I had known that I was dealing with a Kree, I never would've come here."
"Then it seems we have only one piece of business left," the Kree growl, drawing his weapon.
"Indeed we do," the Skrull agreed, pulling out his own weapon.
"Gentlemen." Both warriors turned to see a blue skinned man approaching. The crowd parted to let him approach. He straightened his jacket slightly. "I don't appreciate fighting in my bar."
Both the Kree and the Skrull focused briefly on the large metal fin attached to the man's head before focusing back on his eyes. "So what?" the Kree asked.
"So, if you continue this conflict, I will be forced to throw you out," the man told them, keeping calm.
The Kree laughed. "Your fighting days are long over, Yondu," he told him. "You may have been a hero years ago during the Annihilation Wave, but you've long since lost your touch."
"Do you really want to test me?" Yondu asked.
The Kree and the Skrull looked at each other. "You think you can take us both without killing us?" the Skrull asked. "Your Yaka arrow isn't known for taking people alive."
Yondu didn't miss a beat. "That is true…but that's why I hired her."
Footsteps came from behind Yondu as a blonde-haired girl approached, cracking her knuckles in her palms. "These two causing trouble?" she asked, putting a hand on her hip.
"I'd like them out of my bar, Miss Xiao Long," Yondu told her.
Yang cracked a smile. "You got it."
The Kree and the Skrull both laughed. "You expect a Terran girl to beat us?" the Kree asked, raising his pistol at her. "You're pathetic, Udonta."
Yang struck first, punching the Kree so hard that the wall cracked slightly upon impact. He sank to the floor, out cold.
The Skrull's eyes widened in fear. But before he could move, Yang jumped up, gave him a wink in midair, and pounded him into the ground, also knocking him unconscious almost instantly.
The crowd applauded as Yang got up. "Thank you, thank you," she said, holding her hands up. "Just doing my job."
"Nothing more to see here, everyone," Yondu added. "Go back to your drinks." As the crowd dispersed, he walked over to Yang. "Perhaps next time you should try to avoid causing any unnecessary damage to the building when you throw people out," he suggested.
Yang shrugged. "Sorry, Yondu."
He smiled slightly. "It's okay, Miss Xiao Long. I know this is a trying time for you." He gestured to the unconscious Kree and Skrull warriors. "Now, drag these two out. If they want to fight because of the damned Kree-Skrull war that's been going on for centuries, they can do it outside."
"Sure thing." Yang grabbed the Kree's arm and the Skrull's leg and began to drag them out the door.
"Any progress today?" Yondu asked as she was just about out the door. "Anything that might help you find what you're looking for?"
Yang looked down. "I wish there was…but I still don't know anything."
"Well, keep your chin up," Yondu suggested. "One of these days, I'm sure your memory will come back."
"Yeah…" Yang agreed, closing her fists slightly. "One day."
And thus we close out the Doom arc. Nora and Ren are safe and sound back with the Avengers and their friends. And, while this arc couldn't really see them defeat the main villain of this arc, given that it was Doom, I assure you that they will get a chance to shine in the next arc that features them.
Sadly, though, that won't be for a while. In fact, this is the last we'll be seeing the Earthbound heroes for some time, because we got some cosmic stuff to deal with. And, as you saw right there, next on the list is everyone's favorite brawler from Team RWBY, Yang! But, as you also saw, she's definitely not okay. How did she end up like this? Only time will tell.
As you could see, Ruby has begun getting some feelings of self-doubt due to recent events. She's been through a lot recently, with Ultron kicking the butts of her and all her friends, and now being forced to make a decision to stay behind and trust the Avengers to save her friends from Doom. And this is only the beginning of her struggles.
Writing the big fight scene with Doom was a blast for me. I tried to do my best to let every Avenger showcase their powers in the fight...and how Doom still absolutely destroys them despite how powerful they are. Just goes to show you just how dangerous of a foe Doom is. Hopefully, for the sake of RWBY and JNPR, this will be the last they have to deal with him.
One final thing to note here, because I know people are going to comment on this: the Yondu featured here is based more off his original appearance rather than how he was portrayed in the MCU. So, while his look is similar to that of his MCU counterpart, that's pretty much the only thing they have in common. If you have time, I recommend getting into the original Yondu's backstory, because it's quite fascinating. Of course, I'm not basing this Yondu exactly off of the original one in the comics, but you can still get a general idea of what this one is going to be like.
But anywho, that's all from me. Until next time, this is Guest 1138, signing off.
Castle Doom—September 29
The damage that the Avengers had inflicted on his castle was already being repaired as Doom sat on his throne, staring at multiple different monitors.
While he may have needed the Remnantians for further study, the earlier scans he had performed on them should have been adequate enough for him. The aura draining beam was already a success based on this information alone.
But he wasn't done. There were far more important things for him to work on regarding the information he had received.
He raised his hand, examining the vial of strange dust within. He had found this substance within the weapons of the Remnantians. While it appeared to power their ammunition, the substance appeared inert for some reason.
And Doom was determined to unlock its secrets.
