Chapter 3: Monster
Rachel Black sat across the bonfire as she watched her imprint disappear into the forest, phone glued to his ear.
Something like cold water washed over her.
She hated her imprint. It was nothing like the other imprinted couples. The other couples were loving and the men doted on their women but not Paul.
Paul hated her guts. He was the pack's most violent and temperamental wolf. No one liked him. matter of fact, no one knew anything about him. He scared them. He even scared her sister and that was saying something.
All they knew was to call a number if they needed him.
That was it.
But the funny part of it was that Paul got the most privileges. He was allowed a job off the reservation. He got to keep his long hair. And rarely had to patrol and when he did it was like once or twice a month.
He never smiled, never laughed, and never even batted an eye at her.
But Rachel was stubborn and wanted what she couldn't have. She tried to move into his house like the other imprints had but she had no clue where it was and when he gave her directions, he had sent her to the very edge of the reservation to an empty dirt patch.
He made it clear she wasn't allowed anywhere near him.
Oh, and don't get her started on when she tried to touch him.
He broke her wrist in two places and told her to never touch him again.
Rachel ran away crying to her sister who she thought would put Paul in his place, but Rebecca had no sympathy for her twin.
"I told you, Rachel. Paul is different. He doesn't have the pack mentality. You pushing yourself on him won't do anything." Her sister had told her.
Rachel had been furious that day. So furious, she demanded that Jacob fight Paul. Jacob didn't want to, but he obliged his older sister.
A few hours later, Paul knocked on their door holding Jacob by the neck. He was black and blue. Paul had broken both of Jacob's arms and his legs.
"I believe this spoiled foolish pup belongs to you. Don't try to mess with me, Rachel Black. Next time, I won't hold back."
Oh, when her sister found out, Rebecca made her run midnight and morning patrol for months. Then she had to go to work!
It was unfair! Her family was practically royalty and Paul was dismissing her! her eyes welled with tears as she looked around at all the other imprinted couples. They all looked so happy.
Sam and Rebecca. Embry and Emily. Leah and Jacob. Quill and Claire. Jared and Kim. Some of the other guys were single but Rachel was special! She was the chief's daughter and second in command! How dare he put his nose up at her.
It was then Paul strode out of the woods, his black shades covering his eyes. he always wore shades. No one had ever seen Paul without them plus, Rachel had never seen him in his wolf form. He always patrolled alone. And he typically wore the same thing. Black shirt, army cargo pants, and brown boots. He never shredded his clothes.
He strode confidently over to his sister who was sitting in Sam's lap next to their father. Rebecca stood while Sam and her father stiffened.
Matter of fact the whole pack froze as Rebecca stared at Paul. They were waiting to see what would happen.
"I'm leaving," Paul told his sister. It wasn't a question. He wasn't asking her; he was telling her! if anyone else had done that Rebecca would have ripped their heads off.
"When?"
"Right now. Only call me if you need me. you know how to reach me."
And then that was it. he walked away as if he didn't just disrespect their alpha.
As soon as he was out of view the pack let out a sigh of relief.
Paul was a monster. That was Rachel's conclusion. She was imprinted to a monster.
