Chapter 19: When All Looks Lost

Bella groaned. She was freezing and her head hurt.

"Finally it's about time."

When she opened her eyes she was surprised to Demetri chained to a brick wall. His eyes were pitch black and he had horrible black circles under his eyes.

Bella tried to look around but it only made her dizzy.

" I wouldn't get up quite yet if I were you." He warned her. Bella groaned. Her body felt like it had been hit by a truck.

"What happened? Where are we?"

" The enemy ambushed us. I was originally sent to gather Esme Cullen. She somehow got caught up with the enemy and when I finally found her they ambushed me. Those tigers that were on the battlefield, set off some fire traps. Caught half of the Denali coven on fire. Their leader and Eleazar were the only ones left. I was able to chase after the enemy with just a few burns. I followed some of your allies to the reservation where the enemy caught up with us. I could sense him but I couldn't see him. It was jarring. And just when I thought I had him, he snatched you up. I was able to follow him for a while, but then he took me down. I don't think he's working alone though.."

"What do you mean? Who else could he be working for?"

"he may have the power of invisibility, but everything he orchestrated so far is just too elaborate. Yes, he dupped the Denali coven into working with him, but I think there's another person involved. I don't know who yet, I haven't seen or heard anything in days."

"days! It's been days!" Bella said in alarm as she sat up again..but she quickly regretted it as a wave of nausea hit her hard.

"Will you stop that?" Demetri hissed. "You are our only hope of getting out of here."

"what? You mean you our only hope!" Bella argued.

Demetri laughed humorlessly and said "Bella, I know it's dimly lit in here but I need you to look at me. Look at me."

Bella squinted through the horrible lighting of the dark cave or wherever they were and gasped. Demetri legs were gone. Completely gone, starting from the hip.

"he took them the first day we arrived. Broke them off and burned them. Listen, Bella, I know the Volturi has treated you like crap and we haven't done you any service but if we get out of here, I need you to end me. I can't go back to the Volturi like this. Im of no use to them anymore. I'll help you any way I can but you have to kill me."

Bella groaned.

"Fine, I'll do what I can. But we need to figure out how to get out of here. We are we anyway?"

"We are under a structure that's for sure. A medieval holding cell? He put a bag over my head so I had no clue where we were. I can sense the invisible guy a few miles away and there are no other scents in the house as of right now. But we have to come up with a plan. Do you have any ideas?"

Bella looked around the basement slash dungeon. A few things were lying around. A bucket, some gardening tools, a crappy-looking washer and dryer. The shelves were filled with random boxes but it was too dim to see anything.

"I can't see anything from here. Maybe I can get up and look around."

Demetri shook his head.

"Not yet. You need to try to rest for thirty more minutes. You have a bad trauma to your head and you've been asleep for days. You haven't eaten or drunk anything. You need to rest. I'll wake you up. It won't be a long rest but it will give us some time before the enemy returns."

Bella closed her eyes and sighed. She was trying to not become frustrated but Demetri was right, she was weak. Her body screamed exhaustion.

"Alright…" she agreed as she crawled to the wall next to him and leaned against it.

Without prompting she closed her eyes. but she didn't know if sleep would come to her.

Rachel stood outside Paul's bedroom door in hesitation. She felt like such a failure. It had been four days since Bella was taken and he had shut himself away from the world. He refused to eat or drink. All day and all night, they could hear him shuffling about his room, pacing, and growling. Sometimes things would be thrown and other times angry sobbing would be heard.

"Paul?" she questioned.

No response.

She knocked but no answer.

"paul…i…im sorry. I don't know how but we will get Bella back. But Paul… you can't break down like this… your kids need you and so do the pack. You have your whole family here for you. please… It's been days since you ate or drank. Can you-"

Rachel froze when the bedroom door cracked open. Paul was nowhere to be seen but she could hear him.

"Tell my father to gather the family. He'll know what I mean."

And then the door was shut in her face.

Rachel sighed and made her way downstairs to the dining room. The past four days had not been kind to any of them. A few of them had some broken arms. Colin's back had been broken, while Seth barely made it through. Even though their physical bodies were now healed, it didn't do any better for their pride.

Yeah, they took out a big chunk of the enemy but they didn't get their main goal. The invisible man but it turns out he hadn't just pissed them off, he had pissed off the vampires as well. He was a member of a rival coven that most of the vampire world despised. After the battle, a red-eyed vampire wearing a black cloak had been visibly upset when he not only got away but her partner was taken as well. The pack wanted to immediately kill her but Paul intervened. He said that the red-eyed child was a member of the vampire police and needed to return to them immediately. The remaining vampires who had joined forces with the invisible man were to go with her. Four red-eye vampires left the battle alive. If you could call it that. And that's where they stood. Bella and some other vampire missing without a trace.

The pack had met with the elders on two occasions but they never got anywhere. The elders weren't hearing them. The only one who seemed to hear them out was Big Quill and billy black. The duo who were currently sitting in the living room with Charlie and Sue.

At the moment, her mother and Joy were cooking in the kitchen. The pack was dispersed all over the house. All of them heard exactly what Paul had asked.

The front door opened and standing in the doorway was Paul's father. Julian Ferguson. He and Paul were practically twins.

"Mr. Ferguson, Paul-"

"I heard what he said, young lady. Don't worry about it. It's already done, son. They will be here soon." he responded as he talked to the ceiling, knowing Paul could hear him.

"Who?" Rachel questioned.

Paul's father looked at her from behind his shades.

"reinforcements. We're going to need a lot more paws on the ground if we're going after this demon."

It was the eighth night when Paul's door finally opened, With quiet footsteps, he crept to the nursery and scooped up his daughter. He then opened Brady's door and picked up his sleeping son.

When he had settled both children in his bed, Paul allowed his tears to flow.

"Please lord… I can't do this by myself. I can't raise these pups without her. I need my wife. I need you… please lord…I can't lose her again... help me. help us…"

Anthony Weber awoke in a cold sweat as he pushed the blankets away from him.

He couldn't breathe.

His wife awoke next to him.

"honey? Honey what is it?" she asked in alarm.

Anthony was quick to turn the light on and stood up ignoring his wife's questions.

He rushed to his daughter's room, not bothering to knock, and shook her out of her sleep.

"angela! Angela!" he exclamimed.

"dad? Ughhh what's wrong? Is it mom? The boys?" she groaned sleepily. She just so happened to be home for the weekend and she was starting to regret it.

"Angela listen to me. I need to know something. When was the last time you spoke to your friend Bella Swan? What did she look like? Was she still involved with the Cullens?"

Angela looked at her father in confusion.

What did her father want with Bella?
