Here's the fourth chapter everyone, terribly sorry about the delays for this one, things have been busy and while I'm aware October is over I have every intent on finishing this thing. Whoo! I know it blows and ruins the feeling but hey, it happens as well as real life as well. Sometimes there ain't nothing I can do about it, plus me updating stories also depends on my mood as well.

Now, as I've said in the past there's only gonna be ten chapters in total so after this that means only six more will remain, it won't be like my other stories. Also once again huge shout out to my man King of 2211 for helping out with this story!

Chapter 4

Kapa

A camera comes into view filming being held in the hand by a male Asian student walking alongside another male student with their bikes. Both were in uniforms meaning they go to one of the local schools in the area. To their right was a river.

The holding the camera sighed. "fu !kyo wa jugyo ga owak te yokak ta desu./Whew! I'm glad class is done for today. "

"hai .anata mo watashi mo. Sorede, anata ga mi te i ta sono onnanoko to no torihiki wa nani desu ka ?/Yeah. You and me both. So what's the deal with that girl you were looking at?"

"E? Dore desu ka?/Eh? Which one?"

"Senshu todoi ta mono wo shitsu te i masu ka?/You know, the one that arrived last week?"

"Aa, sou desu, sou desu .ima omoidashi masu./Oh, right, right. I remember now. "

"Kanajo wa kanari kawaii to omoi mase ne ka?/She's pretty cute don't you think?"

"E, kanajo wa miae ga waruku ari mase ne .sarani, kanajo wa jitsusai ni suteki na seikaku wo motsu te i masu./ Yeah she's not to bad looking. Plus she actually has a nice personality."

Sō,`kosei'./ Yeah, "personality"." Just then, a splash was heard as the young man turned around, "Nani datte?/ What was that?"

"Nani?/ What?"

"* Anata wa sore o kiite imasen ka?*/ You didn't hear that?"

Nani wo kiku?/Hear what?"

"Watashi wa nani ka wo kii ta to omotto ta./I thought I heard something." The camera holders friend replied as he glanced around a bit with the camera. But all he saw was just the river moving along with the current.

"Hontou desu ka?/You sure?"

"Youn, tabun watashi wa butsuji wo souzou shi te iru dake desu./Hmm, maybe I'm just imagining things."

Another splash was heard, this time louder, "Miru? Nanika kikoe tatte itteta!/ See? I told you I heard something!"

The camera holder stops turning over to the river. "Watashi mo sore wo kiki mashi ta !nani deshi ta ka!?/I heard that too! What was that!?"

"wakari mase ne !shikashi, sore wa kanari ookiku kikoe mashi ta!/I don't know! But that sounded pretty big!" His friend replied back starting to get nervous.

The camera looked around as the two searched for the source

"Sore wa doko desu ka? Where is it? "

"Wakari mase ne./I don't know." Suddenly the camera holders' friend tapped his shoulder pointing outwards. "Hora! Ruck! Anata wa sore wo mi masu!?/Look! Look-look-look! You see that!?"

The camera turned to the direction and saw a large ripple across the water; neither boy made a sound as they watched in stunned silence. They stood there, watching the river, but whatever happened... it stopped. Hesitantly, the boys slowly approached the running river, everything seeming still.

Just as they reached the water, however, a figure obscured in shadows began to rise from the dark waters. The two screamed as they ran to their bikes, dropping the camera as it showed the two riding off. The sound of sloshing water is hearing as something walks in front of the camera.

Lost Tapes

Kappa

In the late spring of 2017 Nathan Redfield, is in Japan to marry his girlfriend of five years. Before the wedding, he his two best friends Jackson West, Robbie Mackle and his girlfriend's brother Sai are going on a bachelor party by the nearby lake. But little did they know, that this night prelude to love, would become their darkest hour. These are their tapes.

Time. 5.30 A.M

A camera turns on revealing a man with short brown hair, clearly of American decent. From the looks of it he was in a hotel room.

"Well, this your main man Nathan. It's almost here."

He gets up from bed and moves the curtains showing that he was in Japan, specifically Kyoto.

"Konnichiwa, Tokyo. In about a few hours, I'' be married to the most beautiful woman in the world"

"I'm feeling really good about this too. I really am. But first, tonight's my bachelor party, my last night as a free man. Before I take that big major commitment in my life."

Descriptions of Kappa vary from region to region, but most of the details are similar. Kappa are said to be about the size of a small child (never more than 5 feet tall) and have relatively small frames. In fact, the word 'Kappa' actually translates roughly to 'water child.' Their hands and feet are webbed and they are said to have amazing swimming capabilities.

Kappa supposedly have scaly skin, similar to that of a reptile. Their skin color varies, but is said to come in hues of yellow, green, and blue. Kappas are said to have a humanoid figure with the shell of a tortoise on its back. Additionally, most Kappa have long, shaggy hair that is usually shaped in a bowl cut. They also have a beak for a mouth, though this doesn't seem to interfere with their abilities to speak in human languages.

Though many refuse to believe in the existence of the Kappa, there are still many sightings today – especially in the countryside of Japan. In fact, locals still hang warning signs near bodies of water thought to be frequented by the Kappa.

Kappas are also known to be extremely intelligent. They are credited with bringing many medical practices to the ancients of Japan including the art of bone setting and creation of many medicinal salves. It is said that if you befriend a Kappa, it will grant you with the knowledge of many medicinal practices.

They are also thought to be magical and are greatly respected by all those who believe in the deity. All Kappas are known to possess incredible strength and impressive swimming capabilities. They are also known for their love of fighting – especially sumo wrestling. It is said that a Kappa's greatest joy in life is to engage in combat with its victims. However, many are able to escape its invitation to fight by making a deep bow to the Kappa. According to legend, Kappas are obsessed with politeness and will return the bow, spilling their water in the process.

Last but not least, all Kappa have a small bowl-like dent on top of their heads that holds a small pool of water called the 'sara.' This water is though to be the source of the Kappa's magical powers. A Kappa must keep their sara full whenever they venture onto land or forfeit all their strength and magical powers. Without this water, a Kappa could possibly die. However, it is thought that if you refill the sara atop a Kappa's head, they will be eternally grateful and will help you with whatever you require for the rest of your lifetime.

There are also reports of a type of hairy Kappa that are known as Hyosube, which are thought to be hungry ogre-like monsters.

5:45 A.M

Nathan steps out of his room now dressed up he walks over to the room next door and knocks on it. "Jason, Robbie, wake up."

He heard groans coming from inside and soon enough someone answered the door, it was Robbie, a slight bit overweight man wearing a blue robe.

"What?"

"Wakey, wakey, Sleeping Beauty. Todays the big day. Sai said he's got something for us."

"Well could've it waited at another time? Like an hour?" Robbie asked rubbing his eyes. "The freakin next doors last night were annoying as hell. We barely got any sleep." "Try only three hours of sleep!" Jason replied from inside the room

"Sorry about that guys. But come on, get freshen up. He's gonna be here in like half an hour." "Ok." They both replied in unison closing the door.

6:25 A.M

The camera now films the hotel's dining area come into view where Nathan and his friends were eating.

"You know this is actually pretty good." Robbie commented. "What is?" Jackson questioned. "These eggrolls. Heck, look at the arrangement of all this food. This is actually the best breakfast I ever had."

"So pancakes just got replaced then?" Nathan asked jokingly getting a laugh from Jackson.

"Heck, no." Robbie shook his head. "I'm just saying, this is really good. I'll always love pancakes."

"Hey speaking of which Nathan shouldn't Sai be getting here by now?" Jackson asked checking his watch. "It's been over half an hour." "Yeah, you're right..." Nathan starts to look around before hold up his hand. "Oh wait here is."

Entering the dinning area, the camera showed a Japanese man, slightly younger than the three as he waved to them. "Hey, guys, hope I'm not late."

Grabbing a seat, Sai sat next to Nathan. "So, what's your idea for today?" Robbie asked. "Well, I know how Nathan's an outdoor person, So I know a place."

"Oh yeah?" Jacosn questioned. "What do you got in mind?"

"What he said." Robbie added.

"There's this track along a river about a few miles out of city limits. My sister said it was okay, so long as we check in every now and then." Sai replied Nathan nodded, "Well, sounds good to me. Plus, it'd be good to get some fresh air."

"Yeah, but is this really a good idea for a bachelor party though?" Jackson questioned.

"Neither would I." Jackson chimed in. "Hey, guys come on give him a break." Nathan spoke up defending his fiancé's brother. "He did his best. Alright."

"All right." Jackson sighed.

"Fine." grumbled Robbie. The four continued to eat their breakfast; unaware what lied ahead of what their trip was leading to.

7: 15 A.M

We see the camera turn on showing Sai driving a car while Robbie was holding the camera taping Nathan talking to his soon to be wife.

"No, Mei. Yes, I know, We'll keep in touch. Okay, love you. Bye." Nathan hung up, when he noticed he was being filmed, "Yes, let it be known, I love my fiancee."

"Well that's good to hear." Sai commented from behind the wheel. "After all, the fact that you managed to convince our father for his blessing to marry her is a surprise to me." "Hey, Sai no offense man, but your dad is one tough piece of rice." Robbie noted.

"First off, that's not cool man. Second, he's strict, but he cares for his family. He has no problem letting us be with someone out of country, but he's still a little protective over everyone." Sai replied, "Hell, he was shocked where I wanted to take you guys." "Why? Is there wild animals?" Jackson asked. "None too dangerous, unless you count a centipede once in a while. Other than that, the path's completely safe."

"I hope so." Robbie commented. "Because I've been on a sixteen-hour flight, and not to mention I got a lot of disapproving glares from the old people here.

"You have to realize, some people here have traditions deep rooted, and if you don't respect those traditions, don't expect a warm welcome."

"That's actually fair." Jackson agreed. "I mean, we have our traditions and these people have theirs. No offence Sai."

"That's ok, none taken."

"It ain't that, I'm pretty sure they think like I'm like a sumo wrestler in training or something."

Nathan waved him off. "Oh come man, your overexaggerating." He said before breaking down into laughter with the other guys minus Robbie.

"Yes, alright!" Nathan was pleased to hear this while Jackson sighed in relief. "Finally."

Soon as Sai parked, everyone shuffled out of the vehicle and saw a beautiful forested area; not quite the scenery of Mt. Fuji, but just as serene and lush. It was certainly a sight to behold as Nathan filmed.

It was then a twig snapped, forcing everyone to whip around; standing there was a small old man, who blankly regarded the four men. He then addressed Sai, who nodded and approached him, the other three looking on in confusion.

The old man then handed Sai a small bag, bowed to Nathan and his friends and walked away. Nathan asked as his soon-to-be brother-in-law came back. "Okay, what was that about?" He then saw what the younger male hade, "And are those... cucumbers?" He questioned?

"Yeah, cucumbers. It's always been a local custom around here for generations." Sai answered as he passed the group a cucumber each.

"What do you even do with these?" Jackson asked as he looked at his.

"it's for a variety of purposes, the locals especially the elders they use them for protection." Sai explained much to the other guy's confusion.

"What's that mean?" Robbie questioned

"We have a supposed legend about a demon that lurks in the water." Sai began to explain. "Not just here, but through all the rivers, lakes and ponds here in Japan. People have been talking about it for hundreds of years and supposedly they love cucumbers."

"Demons that like cucumbers? You're joking, right?" Jackson asked

"No. I'm not. People take this very seriously." Sai replied.

"Guys, just keep them on you just to humor the locals, please? We need to make a good impression." The two grunted but agreed. It was then that the four walked passed a torii gate, but they didn't have to walk far when found the river.

"Ok, this is actually nice." Jackson commented as he glanced around. "Really beautiful."

"Said to go on for miles, hope you've packed plenty of water and trail mix." Sai said as he lead them along the river. The camera shown Sai, Nathan and Jackson walking along the trail as Robbie lagged behind; taking a look at the cucumber, then tossed it into the raging waters.

"Protection, spare me." He scoffed.

"Hey, Robbie! Come one, man!" Jackson saw what he did.

"Well come on, am I really supposed to believe in the boogieman?" The chubby man replied. "Yeah, I don't think so."

White the future brothers-in-law were ahead, Jackson stormed to Robbie, "I swear, if Sai or Nathan find out!" "They won't, not of we keep our mouths shut."

"They're bound to find out, and when they do, I'm not sticking up for you." When his friend went to catch up, Robbie was about to follow... when he heard the sound of a splash. He turned around, but the camera caught nothing.

"Come on, Robbie, move it!" Nathan called.

"Yeah, I'm coming!" Robbie called back, still looking at the river before hurrying to catch up.

Kappas are considered to be malevolent creatures that have a tendency to direct their anger towards humans and livestock. Some Kappa are pranksters that like to make offensive jokes that people uncomfortable like making sounds similar to flatulence or looking up a woman's kimono. Other Kappa are more violent and purposefully try to drown livestock and small children, drink the blood of victims, and sexually assault women in which they wait and seize every opportunity they can get.

Infact it was supposedly reported in history and folklore that it was not uncommon for these women to later give birth to Kappa children. Upon birth, these children were cut into pieces and buried in jars because of their hideous appearance.

However, despite their evil ways, Kappa are obsessed with politeness and human tradition. This is considered to be its biggest weakness. Many who tell of a Kappa encounter in which they escaped claim that they were able to do so because they made the Kappa spill the water in its sara when they bowed. Kappa are also considered to be extremely trustworthy and honest. If you refill the water in the sara of a Kappa, it will help you with whatever you require or make a promise for whatever you ask.

Kappa are also considered to be extremely knowledgeable creatures. They are known to speak human languages even though they have a beak for a mouth and hold great knowledge of medical practices. It is said that the ancient tribes that inhabited Japan were able to lean the art of bone setting and the creation of medical salves from friendly Kappa.

All though while that might not be the case with not all Kappa being evil with some being good and often have good relations to humans they mostly prefer to use its gifts to play tricks on humans or lash out violently towards them depending on what you do.

So regardless of you sometimes believe, it's always best to show respect these creatures. Because if you do, they'll leave you alone, but sometimes when they don't someone carves the names of themselves and their relatives onto cucumbers and toss them out in the river where Kapa live. It eats them and in return it'll leave those people alone, but they'd have to constantly make sure that it would get fed for their loved ones to be safe and not harmed.

8: 20 A.M.

The sun was out, by the time the four made t a few miles.

"So we almost there?" Robbie asked they continued following Sa, only a little while ago he passed the camera over to Jackson who was still filming. "Yeah, we should almost be there." He replied back.

"So what's this place we're heading to?" Jackson asked, taping everything. "A place where my family pays tribute when one is joining the family." Sai explained

"Huh, that actually kind of sounds cool." Nathan commented being a bit intrigued. "What do you think guys?" "It does sound interesting." Jackson agreed. "Yeah, I can agree with that." Robbie added in his agreement.

The youngest of the group lead the way, until they finally came across what they were travelling to; it appeared to be a sort of shrine. One with an incense in a cauldron with a statue looking over it. The statue itself was rather... odd. It looked like a turtle like creature with reed for hair.

"The heck is that thing?" Robbie questioned as they walked up to it. "Freakiest thing I've ever seen." "I believe that's a Kapa." Jackson said getting a surprised look from Sai.

"Oh, so you know about it?"

"Yeah, I did a report on it one in junior high for a project focused on folklore."

"At least someone was paying attention." Nathan remarked

"Oh, come on, I did a report on bigfoot what more do you want." Robbie retorted back.

"Okay, guys, I just need to pray and then we'll leave." Sai said as he approached the cauldron. As he did, Jackson sat on a rock, right next to the river; placing the camera to the ground as he and his friends watched the prayer.

They all watched as Nathan's soon to be brother in law started to mutter a couple of words underneath his breath which soon progressed into what sounded almost like a song.

While doing so while the group was keeping their eyes focused on Sai the camera caught something briefly surfacing for a moment before going back into the water.

As they watched, something began to creep closer and closer to the surface near Jackson was. And as soon as it was close enough... Jackson let out a surprise yelp as something splashed into the water. This startled the three who turned around. "Jackson?" Nathan called out. "Jackson, where'd you go?" Sai called next.

"Hey!" Robbie began looking around. "Dude, where'd you go!?" He turned back to the others with a look of shock. "Where the hell he go!?" "I don't know!" Nathan replied before looking at Sai. "Did you see him?"

"No, I didn't see anything." His future brother-in-law answered still baffled by what had just happened.

It was then that the young man noticed the camera. "There's his camera." He picked it up and scanned the area as they continued to call for their missing friend. "Jackson!" "Jackson!" "Jackson!"

8: 45. P.M.

For the past twenty-five minutes the trio have been relentlessly trying to search for their missing party member. However, there has been no luck whatsoever. "Jackson!" Nathan called out for the most like hundredth time walking alongside Sai and Robbie.

"Jackson!" Sai called out next.

"Jackson! Come on man where are you!?" Robbie called out last. "What the hell happened back there!?"

"Guys, we've been here for hours. We need to contact the local authorities." Sai said, growing worried.

"Yeah, but one question. Who has there phone?" Robbie asked. "Because I left mine back in the freakin car." Hearing this Nathan patted his pockets and cursed at himself. "Dammit."

"We have to get back to the car right-" Sai was about to say, when the camera caught something at the edge of the lake... "K-Kamisama.../By God..." "What's wrong?" Nathan asked, following his gaze.

"The heck is wrong with him?" Robbie asked just as confused as his friend was.

In the distance, on the bank, was a large object; something that looked like a log. Slowly, the three approached the object, the light of the camera barely illuminating the path as they drew closer.

Soon as they were upon it, Nathan knelt down and touched... only to gasp and jump back as the object turned over... revealing it to be a human body! Not just any body, but the body of their no longer missing companion! His skin pale, soaked body covered in river weeds and eyes glazed, signifying that he was dead. "Shit! Shit!" Robbie whimpered.

"J-J-Jackson...Oh my god...dude what happened to you?" Nathan exclaimed sadly not sure how he was going to explain this to the rest of his family at all.

It was then that a loud splash was heard, causing Sai, who had the camera, to spin around, "Soko ni iru no wa dare/Who's there?!" Sai called out, "Watashi wa anata ni keikoku shite imasu! Keikan o tsukamaeru zo/I'm warning you! We're going to get the cops!"

The only response he got back was low guttural groan which made everyone freeze. "Sai...seriously what the hells going on?" Nathan asked fearfully.

"Nuh-uh, screw this grab Jackson and let's book it!" Robbie cried out.

Suddenly, another splash was heard, and a loud roar erupted from somewhere near the water, causing the three to break out in a sprint.

"Wait, what about Jackson!" Nathan tried to protest but Robbie stopped him. "We'll come back for him later! We gotta move!"

9:02 P.M.

The three stopped after a while of running, slumped over as they gasped for air; Sai, with the camera, looking back in case whatever attacked their friend didn't chase them.

"I don't think it's following us anymore." He informed the other two.

"You think so?" Nathan asked a bit out of breath along with Robbie.

"Positive." Sai answered.

"You said there wasn't anything dangerous around here!" Robbie accused as he pointed at the Japanese man. "Well, how do you explain that?!"

"Hey, back off man!" Nathan stood between his friends.

"Nothing like this has happened before!" Sai was perplexed by the situation they were in right now. "We did everything we were supposed to do... Wait...where's your cucumber?"

"What?" Robbie raised an eyebrow. "What does this have to do with anything?"

"Do you have it or not?!" Sai demanded. Though Nathan was confused, he took out his cucumber as Sai did, "I have mine and I'm sure Jackson had his." The two looked to Robbie, who began to look hesitant. "... What did you do? What did you do?!" Sai demanded.

"I threw the stupid thing away. What's the big deal?"

"What's the big deal?! DO you know what you've done?!" Before anyone could say anything more, a loud thud was heard in their path.

"The hell!?" Robbie exclaimed in surprise from the sound.

It was then that the light of the camera began to flicker, the three looking back and forth to see what made the sound; Heavy footsteps heard all around them. As the sun had long since set and the trees overhead making the already dark area darker.

"Sai, what's going on?" Nathan asked as they continued to watch this transpire.

"You're supposed to keep the cucumbers on you until you leave!" Sai hissed, when the light suddenly went out. "Kuso/Damn it!"

"What!? Are you serious right now!?" Robbie cursed before Sai punched him.

"Shut up! Keep your voice down... whatever's out there can still hear us!" Sai hissed as the three stood back-to-back.

Robbie groaned as he covered his nose. "Bastard...Well you clearly know what it is. So what the hell's going on!?"

"I said be quiet!" Sai urged. "Robbie, just be quiet... listen... I think it's gone." Nathan said as everything went silent; not even the sound of crickets were heard.

Suddenly something rushed by them and Robbie screamed in pain. When the camera turned around, they saw that the chubby man had claw marks on his stomach oozing out blood.

"Robbie!" Nathan cried, soon as the light came on. Before either could do anything, the heavy footsteps came back; as Sai turned around, the camera caught the image of a small creature that was blurred, due to it's fast pace.

Robbie screamed as the creature grabbed him and dove into the river.

"Robbie no!" Nathan jumped forward grabbing his friends hand just as he was getting into the water dropping the camera in the process showing his struggle while Sai was behind trying to help drag Robbie out of the water.

Unfortunately, whatever was there was too strong and the two lost their grips; their friend lost to the rapids and the creature within the water. It was here that Sai cried out as he felt pain on his leg. Looking down, he saw that whatever attacked them, also left a mark on the Japanese man's thigh.

"Dammit!" Nathan slammed down his fist in frustration picking up the camera rushed over to Sai helping him up to move.

9: 31 P.M.

The two stumbled through the path as they were not too far from where they parked, but the closer they got to the car; more sounds of splashes and footsteps were heard. Almost as if whatever was attacking them was taking it's time and tormenting them.

"What the heck is that thing?" Nathan asked as he continued helping the limping Sai. "What does it want?"

"I don't know. All I was told that I should respect the river and never toss a cucumber into the water until we leave." Sai said, scared and sad for what was going on. It was then that something was heard right behind them... causing the two to stop. The two turned around... the camera catching the sight of the creature, this time catching it's full appearance.

The creature itself looked like a cross between a turtle and a little child: long, spidery limbs with webbed hands and feet, its abdomen a large shell, and a beak for a mouth that was the color of rotted tree bark. The creature stared down at the two, it's beady red eyes glaring into their souls. Looking between the creature and Sai, who was shown to be frightened, Nathan gave him the camera and picked up a tree branch. "Run..." He told the younger man.

"Wh-What?" Sai was shocked to hear this. "N-No. I'm not leaving you here!

"Don't argue with me! You're injured, but I'm not letting Mei's family die here!" Nathan shouted, then hugging the younger man. "Tell Mei I love her..." He sobbed, before letting go, then rushed at the creature. Though he didn't want to leave his sister's fiancée, Sai trembled, then ran to the car as the sounds of screaming and an inhuman roar was heard.

He absolutely was heartbroken by this whole ordeal and got to the car unlocking the door and slammed it shut slamming his hands into the stirring wheel in frustration as he heard the screaming and started the car driving away as fast as he could.

The following morning Sai was found at the edge of the road by a passing citizen and was rushed to a hospital in the city; though having fainted from blood loss, he miraculously survived the encounter.

The following day afterword's, the authorities questioned him regarding the fates of future brother-in-law and his friends. He turned over the camera he had as evidence to back up his testimony. They then searched the area finding Nathan Redfield at least two miles away from the supposed area encounter barely alive rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The bodies of Jackson West and Robbie Mackle were found and recovered. There deaths despite the video evidence that Said had showed them were labeled as an animal attack.

For Hundreds of years in the country of Japan embedded in it's history, the legend of the Kapa and other creatures like has endured throughout the centuries. But is it really a legend, or...does it live among us?

We see the webbed claw of a creature reaching out towards the screen.

To be continued

Now replying back to reviewers

Marbeled Gold: Oh yeah, even though we mostly know them through fantasy books, movies and games in real life and other countries around the world those things are very much considered to be very real

King of 2211: Haha! Yeah, I've seen Labrinth that was a pretty good right there. Plus man I totally enjoy writing these things as well, and dude this whole thing turned out awesome and I can't wait to work on the next thing with ya, but I hope you liked the end result of this chapter all in all.

So how'd you all like this chapter? Not to bad right? Some episodes of Lost Tapes included people speaking different languages so I think me and King 2211 did a pretty solid job of sticking to that feeling because not all of these chapters take place in the United States of America.

The next chapter though, I have a feeling you're all gonna be very surprised by what you'll expect.

Ok, everyone now that this is out of the way...

I'm gonna try and focus a little bit on Mysterious Magic and try to update it twice this month and most likely depending on what happens and so forth, there might not be an update for my Kipo story which I know a lot of you really want to see an update on it.

But at the same time too, there'll also most likely be another update for Helluva Servant to help keep you all a bit occupied. I thank you all as usual for taking the time and reading my stories, it means a lot to me and I'll see you all later.

Peace out!
