Wow. This chapter was bad. It was stuck in present tense in some areas and just had very choppy dialogue. I tried my best to clean it up and add in descriptions, but I really don't think that really changes it at all.
I hope it reads better than the original, though!
Please, feel free to follow and comment on predictions, thoughts, etc. I am always looking for new ways to improve my craft. Tell your friends!

Beginnings
Team RWBY was used to seeing strange things. Since enrolling in Beacon, such incredible sights had become almost commonplace on missions. But, even to them, a girl appearing out of nowhere was certainly new to them. Ruby and Yang ran to her first, noticing she was unconscious while Blake and Weiss took a more careful approach.
Afraid to move her, Ruby kneeled next to the girl. "Are you ok?"
Weiss rolled her eyes. "She's unconscious. She can't hear you."
"That doesn't mean she can't hear me!"
Blake stepped over and took the strange girl's pulse. "She's breathing, for now." She moved her hand to the girl's wrist and frowned. Quickly, she placed it on her forehead before pulling her hand away. "She's burning up!" Blake gasped.
"Seriously, Blake?" Yang looked down at the girl. "She appeared in a flash of light and you think she might have a cold?"
"No, like she is actually steaming."
Yang leaned down, matching Blake's gaze, and just barely noticed the sight of steam exhaling from her body.
"Huh… Well, that's just going to ruin her self-esteam . Eh!?" Everyone groaned at the horribly timed pun.
"There is a time and a place, Yang!" Weiss hissed. "This girl might be dying!"
Yang sighed softly, "I know Weiss, I'm sorry." However, while the blonde was worried about the life of this strange woman, she was not at all guilty of her pun.
Before her friends could tell her no, Ruby got up and tried to grab the girl by her shoulders.
Weiss, predictably, tried to stop her. She grabbed ahold of Ruby's hand and asked, "what do you think you are doing?! We don't know her! She could be a crook or some kind of bandit. For all we know she is one of the bad guys!"
Ruby shrugged off Weiss' hand and struggled to carry the girl closer to the small village where the bullhead had dropped them off should be waiting.
"We don't, ugh, know that!" She almost dropped the body a few feet in, but Yang was quick enough to catch the girl before her head hit the ground. Ruby looked at her sister, giving her a thankful smile (which she returned).
Blake turned to Weiss and shook her head. "Why is it I feel like we just did something that's going to change our lives forever?"
"That's what it feels like waking up with you all every day," Weiss sighed. The two then quickly rushed after their teammates, offering to help carry the strange visitor.
The village, a small one by many standards, was only a short walk from where their battle had taken place. By the time they arrived, most of the villagers were already in celebration. The pack would have overrun them by now, after all. And normally, the members of team RWBY would have happily stayed the night to join in the festivities.
But they knew better than to leave someone who might be dying in exchange for some quick fun.
They quickly rushed toward a clearing where they could see the silver outline of a bullhead wasting for them. Professor - sorry, Doctor Oobleck stood at the side of the airship's doors, drinking coffee from his thermos even though it was already late in the day. He quickly noticed his students running towards him and quickly did the same, meeting them by the entrance to what used to be a cabbage field.
"Excusemestudentsbutwhathappened?! Wesawabrightlightandimmedietlylandedincase. Didsomethinggowrong?"
Ruby tried to translate what the speed-demon of an archeologist said but even with her semblance, his words were often too fast for even her to process. "Well, um, we were fighting the grimm. It was all like, chop-chop, punch-punch, swish, bang!"
To her left, Weiss sighed in annoyance.
Blake stepped forward and nodded to the body being carried by Yang. "When we finished clearing out the grimm, this girl appeared in a flash of light. We think she might be sick or dying."
Only just now seeing the additional body, Doctor Oohleck quickly rushed over to the girl and began checking her life signs. He lifted the girl's head up and placed a hand on her head.
"I understand. Please hurry this poor child onto the bullhead and we shall return to Beacon immediately. Yang, if you do not mind, I will take her on board. You must have very little to no aura left, and your strength is probably nilled as well." Doctor Oobleck easily lifted the girl's body from Yang's arms and quickly carried her into the bullhead.
"I could've carried her further… I have… tons of strength left!" Yang panted softly, secretly thankful to have a literal burden taken off of her.
Blake rolled her eyes and sneaked around Yang, quietly flicking her forehead and causing Yang to grab her head and groan.
"Owwwww," Yang moaned. "What was that for?"
"Don't push yourself too hard," came the soft voice of her teammate as she walked onboard. But an obvious hint of humor leaked from her voice.
Ruby laughed and followed with Weiss already strapping herself in. Yang pouted briefly but smiled, quickly joining the rest of her team.
On the flight back to Beacon Academy, the school of Huntsmen and Huntresses, every member of the team pressed their faces against the glass windows. With the Vytal Festival around the corner, the entire kingdom of Vale was in a rare time of celebration. Green and silver flags adorned every village and even a few farms had arranged their crops to represent the kingdom's seal (two green axes crossed at the handles).
But it was the sight of Beacon Academy that would always take their breath away.
The most prominent part of the academy buildings is a large tower. The tower was surmounted by a number of green spheres or lights (possibly the beacon after which the academy was named), as well as an intricate clockwork mechanism consisting of many interlocking cogs and gears. Situated immediately below this was Headmaster Ozpin's office, which sat high above the clouds and afforded an impressive view of the surrounding area.
Each of the four girls awed at the recent cleaning the tower must have gotten. It almost seemed to glow and sparkle like magic.
Slowly, the bullhead made its descent towards the Beacon avenue, where dozens of other bullheads were taking off due to the sudden rise of mission acceptances. Everyone was training and focusing on getting in the best shape for the tournament. Teams were rapidly signing up for missions in a last-ditch hope to be picked to compete.
Team RWBY's airship landed with haste in the docking bay, quickly dropping the bullhead doors and letting Doctor Oobleck (helped by the pilot) rush out with the strange girl on a stretcher. Team RWBY exited a few moments later, only to bump into their sister team, JNPR, on the way off the docking bay.
"Hey, guys" called out Jaune Arc, the blonde-haired leader of the team.
"Hey, Jaune!" Ruby smiled. "Where are you guys going?"
Pyrrha Nikos, the Invincible Girl and strong right arm of the team, answered first. "Jaune thought it would be a great idea to do another quick mission before teams are picked tomorrow."
The crazy thunderer and mighty left arm of JNPR, Nora Valkyrie, laughed. "It's not like they wouldn't pick us without it anyways!" Nora pointed to Pyrrah, "not with the Invincible Girl on our team!"
Lie Ren placed a hand on Nora's shoulder. "Just because we have an advantage doesn't mean we shouldn't be prepared." The girl deflated visibly and pouted at her childhood friend.
"So no more pancakes?"
Ren shook his head. "Not until we win the tournament."
A fire lit in Nora's eyes and she began to stomp on the ground. "What are we waiting around for! Let's go! For pancakes! " Nora grabbed Ren by the arm and dragged him to their waiting bullhead, leaving the other six students to laugh.
Jaune looked back to RWBY. "What about you guys? Where are you off to?"
Yang replied first, pointing a thumb towards the door where Oobleck had taken their refugee. "Well, we found this weird girl after we killed a whole buncha grimm. We were going to make a quick stop to the cafeteria for some late dinner then go check up on her."
Pyrrha cocked her head to the side. "And why is it that this girl is weird?"
"Well, for one thing, she appeared in a flash of light," Weiss said.
Blake interjected, adding, "and she was steaming."
"Yeah!" Yang nodded. "Literally smoking. There were like puffs of steam coming off of her. She was hot too."
Everyone groaned loudly, acutely aware of how long Yang must have been waiting to use that pun.
"What? What did I say?"
Alrighty, everyone. Chapter 2! Woooo! I am sorry Vin doesn't appear much in this one. Well, conscious that is. She will be waking up in the next chapter.
