Chapter 10

Vampire Friends

Since I was awake very early that day, Jonath and I sat on my bed for some time, sharing the events of the past week through our thoughts.

Jonath told me everything he knew about the Cullens. They had three vampires with gifts in the family. Once there was Edward, who could read the minds of everyone around him.

This realization made my face turn tomato red.

He could hear my thoughts since our first meeting?! With it then also his purposeful answers and his fast acting would be to be explained. I was very embarrassed that he had noticed how infatuated I was to him.

Jonath, however, found the whole thing very amusing.

Then there was Alice, who Jonath told me could see into the future.

This then clarified why Alice was so sure at the first meeting that we would become best friends.

Last but not least, there was Jasper, who could sense and manipulate the feelings of others.

I was impressed by this talent. It must be quite practical to be able to influence feelings. I wonder if Alice really loved him then, or if it was just Jasper who loved her, and he influenced her feelings?

"That's really an absurd thought, Bella! Alice really loves him. It's best to let her explain it to you."

Suddenly my cell phone rang.

'Alice' was on the display.

Why did she call me? I couldn't talk to her at all, had she forgotten?

I answered it anyway.

"Bella? Would you mind turning on your speaker phone so Jonath can tell me what you have to say!"

I looked at Jonath questioningly. He just shrugged his shoulders, and I turned on the sound speaker.

"Okay, shoot," were his words to Alice.

"Bella, I saw that you know what we are - and also that Jonath told you about our gifts. That's the reason I'm calling. First, I wanted to ask you if you wanted anything more to do with us, since I can't see that. So, do you?"

I thought about it for a moment.

Jo looked at me confidently and waited for my answer. I nodded and Jonath beamed.

"Yes, she does, Alice, and you can pick her up for school right now, too. She's not afraid of you guys."

I looked skeptically at Jonath, but he just shared his thoughts with me: 'Trust me!'

I did!

"Okay, I'm glad to hear that Bella feels that way. Bella, I still have one more request for you though! Would you please text Edward. He's totally freaking out right now and blaming himself for not playing his cards close to his chest from the beginning. And he's afraid you don't want to know about him anymore. Please get in touch with him."

Her voice sounded almost pleading.

I looked at Jo.

'Tell Alice that I'll get back to him tomorrow at the latest. I have to think a bit first - and that Edward and also she should not blame themselves. After all, they were not allowed to reveal their existence to me at all.'

After Jo told her my thoughts, I went into the bathroom to get ready for school. When I finished, a grinning Jo was standing in front of the bathroom door.

"Come on, I've already made your breakfast!"

Oh no! Jonath could really do anything, but not cooking!

I took his hand.

'I'm really not hungry, Jo, please!'

"Come on, I didn't cook that bad!"

I screwed up my face, but did not answer.

Then when we entered the kitchen, he laughed, and I did the same.

I guess you can't go wrong with a bowl of cereal, I thought to myself as I sat down and began to eat.

Fifteen minutes later, there was a knock at our door. Alice was there.

I was suddenly totally excited and took Jo's hand in mine.

"No need to worry, little one, she won't hurt you. After all, you're her best friend, and you're dating her favorite brother to boot."

On the way to school, Alice, Rose and I were silent. Each of us was lost in her own thoughts.

Rose and Alice also still silently escorted me to my classrooms and picked me up again.

At lunchtime I was blowing one's top, but not because of Rose and Alice.

No, because of those stupid turkeys who thought that now that Edward was not there, they had to torment me with their stupid sayings. They could insult me as much as they wanted, I didn't care. However, when they started to drag Edward through the mud, it was over with me.

I gave them all a nasty stare, but that only made them continue to giggle and blaspheme.

What should I do - write them notes? They would throw them away unread. What a bummer!

Alice noticed my mood and asked me what was wrong with me.

I wrote her a long text in which I was very outspoken about these girls.

Alice thought that was very funny and showed the note to Rose, who now followed my example and gave the girls angry looks.

Would you please drive me home, Alice. I don't want to stay here!

When I wrote this to her, she looked at me sympathetically.

"Of course! Come on, I'll take you home. Rose, are you coming?"

Rose just nodded and we made our way to the parking lot. Alice drove Edward's Volvo today.

Arriving at my house, I thought about what to do.

Are you coming in?

... I wrote on the note for Alice and Rose.

"How about we go to our place and have a nice day with Esmé and Jonath?"

I nodded.

That sounded very good.

I went into the kitchen, where Jo was already sitting and waiting for me. I explained to him what we were going to do, and he was visibly excited.

I left Charlie a note saying where I was, and we drove to the Cullens' house.
