Chapter 16

My Knight ...

"HAVE YOU GONE CRAZY? YOU HEARD FOR YOURSELF WHAT SHE WENT THROUGH THAT NIGHT AND NOW YOU WANT TO GO ON WITH IT?!"

I was awakened by loud shouting.

Had that been Edward? In any case, he was no longer lying next to me.

I stretched first.

I really hadn't slept well that night.

When the door opened after a few seconds, Edward entered. He looked at me worriedly.

"How are you, my angel?"

He was really worried!

"I'm tired and confused and also disappointed, but other than that, I'm okay. I can't sleep anymore anyway, so I might as well get up."

"Are you sure?"

He still looked worried.

"Yes, I'd like to go take a shower now!"

I was in no mood to make small talk. However, it made me sad that Edward had to get this off.

However, he looked at me with understanding.

"Okay, I'll make you breakfast in the meantime."

As I stood in the shower in Edward's bathroom, the memories of my conversation with Jo yesterday caught up with me and I began to sob again. I couldn't get myself under control either. Tears were streaming down my face continuously and my whole body was shaking.

Even when I got out of the shower, I didn't feel any better.

Edward must have overheard this, because he knocked on the door.

"Are you okay, Bella?"

He was still worried.

'I just can't take it anymore, Edward! Why did Jo do this to me?'

I collapsed on the floor, my whole body shaking.

Immediately Edward stood next to me with a towel and wrapped me in it. He took me in his arms and held me tight, spoke nothing, was just there for me.

When I had calmed down to some extent, Edward carried me to his room and sat me on the bed.

However, Edward let go of me and I looked at him in confusion.

"Don't worry, I just want to go to my closet and give you something to wear. After all, you don't have anything left here!" he said as he took out a pair of black sweatpants and a blue T-shirt.

He stepped over to his desk, on which - as I only now noticed - lay a heap of cloth, also blue.

"Alice laid out some underwear for you. She says this should fit you," he informed me as he handed me the clothes.

"I'll just go downstairs and get your breakfast. In the meantime, you get dressed," he said before disappearing.

I quickly got dressed and lay back on the bed. I felt so betrayed.

"LEAVE HER THE HELL ALONE NOW! YOU CAN TALK TO HER IF THAT'S WHAT SHE WANTS. YOU'VE REALLY PUT HER THROUGH ENOUGH AND NOW GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!"

What was going on again that Edward was shouting like that? Did Jo want to talk to me again?

I began to cry again.

'Edward, please come up. I need you, please!'

I practically begged him in my mind and not three seconds later Edward had put the tray with my breakfast on his desk, sat next to me, took me in his arms, pulled me onto his lap and silently cradled me. His closeness just did me good and I slowly calmed down.

I don't know how long we sat like that when there was a soft knock at the door.

Without thinking about it, I said, "Come in!"

But that was a mistake.

As the door slowly opened, I saw that it was Jo who had knocked.

"Bella, please, let me explain. I ..."

"Because of you, my best friend is dead!", I interrupted him.

My voice was cold and without emotion.

"Bella, what was I supposed to do? I ..."

As he spoke, I started sobbing again and buried my face against Edward's neck.

I just didn't want to see him. I needed time.

"Jo, it would be better if you left my room," Edward spoke out calmly ... too calmly in my opinion.

"Bella, please listen to me ..."

"GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE! YOU CAN SEE THAT BELLA IS NOT WELL!" Edward now shouted at him.

Jo looked saddened to the floor, but left the room.

Edward really did everything to make me feel good. What had I done to deserve him?

"Do you want me to yell at you too, Bella? For your abstruse thoughts ... You deserve much more than I can offer you! Much much more!"

He still sounded a little sour, but gave me a gentle kiss the next moment.

'I love you!,' I literally screamed at him in my mind and had to smile when he briefly flinched at my loudness.

"I you too, my angel! More than anything. I will always take care of you."

I could hear the promise from his voice.

What would tomorrow bring? Would Jo explain everything to me? Would I be able to stand it? Would Edward stand by me?

"Bella ...!" he gently reprimanded me.

"My knight ...", I still mumbled before I fell asleep again due to the great exhaustion.
