Chapter 20
The Plan
Everything went as expected.
Edward had read in her mind that she had fallen in love with Jo and his words, of course, hit her very hard. Jo didn't want to do this at first, because of course you don't do something like that to a human or a vampire, but he had agreed because he never wanted to go back to her.
Victoria was now standing in front of us, shocked, and Jo turned around - as if on schedule - to leave.
Me - who was standing a little behind him as if according to plan - he pulled along in this movement and wanted to disappear into the forest.
The Cullens should take care of them.
But we had not foreseen that she would freak out like that.
When I was on Jo's back and clinging to him, she rushed after us with a horrible scream.
Edward was the first to rush out of the woods to stop them and the rest were just behind him.
But Victoria, in her raging fury, was much faster than we would have thought and caught Jo by the leg as she threw herself after him.
I flew into the forest in a high arc and still saw Jo fighting with her when I crashed into a tree. I literally heard my forearm crack, but I had so much adrenaline in my body that I didn't feel the pain at first.
Jasper, Emmett and Carlisle immediately pounced on Victoria and pulled her off Jo. She was stronger than him alone because she drank human blood.
Edward was immediately at my side. He was even paler than usual.
As if in slow motion, I saw how the three boys hunted down Victoria. They actually wanted to spare me this look.
But not everything went according to plan. We had not reckoned with this unbridled rage. The three of them were visibly struggling with her, but were stronger nonetheless - and as in the clearing a fire was lit in which she burned, I was glad about it.
She would never kill people again and I finally had my revenge.
I finally looked down at myself. I had noticed that Edward was talking to me, because I saw his lips moving, but I didn't understand a sound. I was as if in a trance.
However, when I looked at my arm, I felt sick. I had an open fracture.
I noticed that Edward had sat me up and had me leaning against a tree. He was even paler than usual.
When his voice finally got through to me again, however, I heard only one word: "Carlisle!"
He literally screamed for him.
Carlisle, who was standing by the fire watching with the others, turned to look at us and was with me not a second later, examining my arm.
I saw Jasper suddenly storm off.
"Emmett, help me! Hold Jo tight," he yelled.
And Emmett helped him.
I looked at Jo, who was trying to fight his way free of the two. His face was contorted with rage!
What on earth did he have?
Then I looked at my arm again.
Oh no! I was bleeding!
I looked in shock at Edward and Carlisle, but they seemed very calm.
"Edward, it hurts so bad," I said suddenly as pain shot through my arm.
Edward looked at me tensely.
"Stay calm, my angel. We'll get you home. Carlisle needs to fix that arm!"
And already I was in his arms, and we were running home with Carlisle.
Carlisle gave me a painkiller and we waited a few minutes for it to take effect. Then he reached for my arm.
"EDWARD," I screamed at the top of my lungs.
It hurt so much ...
"It will be all right, my angel," he reassured me.
"I didn't see it coming. I'm so sorry, Bella. We should have been more careful ...", Alice whimpered.
Alice fearfully entered the house, but Edward completely ignored her.
"It's all right, Alice. It's not your fault," I reassured her.
She looked at me gratefully.
Edward, however, looked quite angry.
'What can she do about it? Nothing happened, Edward,' I thought, while giving him a meaningful look. He should leave her alone with that.
"But more could have happened!" he whispered to me.
"But it isn't. I'll be fine soon and now let's not think about it anymore. I just want to forget about all of this, okay?"
He nodded at me.
"Would you take me to your room? I'm really tired, Edward."
He lifted me up.
Carlisle had plastered my arm by now, I realized - probably stitched it up, too. I was well distracted.
"Oh Alice, would you still call my dad and let him know everything went well," I said - already half asleep - as Edward carried me to his room.
I knew she would hear me.
"Will you stay with me?"
I looked at Edward questioningly as he laid me down on the bed, but then stood back up.
"I'll just get you a pain pill and a glass of water, my angel. I'll be right back."
He was really only gone for half a minute. I swallowed the tablet with the water, Edward put everything on the side table and lay down with me.
I snuggled close to him.
"I love you," I mumbled before falling asleep.
That he answered me and put his arms around me, I no longer really noticed.
