Welcome to chapter Eighty one! I hope you like this one. There's a lot of filler and I'm not sure how I fell about it.
Smackdown: May 30, 2014
"Tamina…" Paige sighed as they walked through the arena. "I have a match with Tamina."
"Are you scared." Renee questioned.
"God no." Paige laughed. "Just hoped that I could have squared up against Fox before our match on Sunday. I mean I've already beat Tamina once."
"Well then this rematch should be a piece of cake, right?" Renee said making Paige smile.
"Speaking of rematches, is the Shield stoked for their match Sunday?"
"Stoked isn't the word I would use." Angel chuckled. She didn't know what kind of word she would use. Nothing in her vocabulary felt right for how the boys felt about their rematch.
"Oh man, I know what you mean." Renee nodded as she took a drink of her coffee. "This morning when you guys came down to the lobby, the look in their eyes almost had me running for the hills."
"Yeah." She sighed. "There's a lot of pent up aggression."
"I'm not surprised, seeing what happened Monday." Paige whistled.
Angel nodded as she thought back to Monday. Hunter had stepped up his game at their contract signing, brought out the big guys and used his sledgehammer against the boys and Triple Powerbombed Roman. However, the attack didn't have the effect on them that Hunter was probably wanted. Instead of being down and out, they were more focused then she had ever seen them. They lived and breathed kicking Evolution's ass.
"How are they feeling after all that." Renee asked.
Angel adjusted her hold on her drink. "I mean their pretty bruised up. But they've been cleared for Sunday." Which in the boys mind was all they cared about.
"God. Sunday is going to be brutal." Renee sighed as she gave her a pat on the shoulder. As if warning Angel about what she already knew.
"I know." Paige said with a smile on her face as she played with her lip ring. "I'm so excited to watch." She clapped her hands before her eyes trailed away. "Hey, isn't that Seth talking to Randy Orton?"
"Randy?" Angel glanced around until she saw Seth standing there down the hallway a bit, shaking his head as Randy stood next from him smirking. She was surprised that Seth was just standing there talking. This morning he had joined the convocation about what they planed to do on Sunday. Though she expected the man didn't want to get in trouble for fighting backstage.
"Excuse me," She said as she gave a glance back to Renee and Paige who were already nodding.
"Be careful." Renee warned.
Taking a deep breath, Angel marched over towards Seth, though as she stopped as soon as she heard Randy's voice.
"Oh, come on Seth. What do you hope to achieve with this?" He asked with a smirk. "Even if you do beat Evolution on Sunday do you really think this is going to end? Do you think that Hunter the COO is just going to throw his hands up and say 'well I tired'? He's giving you a chance here, take it."
"No." Seth said plainly. "How many times to do I have to tell you, it's not going to happen."
"You're just denying the truth, what's there to lose, who's going fault you?"
"The entire Universes."
"Is that what you really care about? The fans? So, what they'll be mad, boo hoo."
"Not happening, Randy."
"I would hate to see you pass up this opportunity to get back on Hunters good side."
"Randy!" Angel took a moment before she realized she had spoken. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she built up the nerve to walk over to Seth's side. "Do you have an issue with my client?"
Randy's predatory eyes dropped to her and she couldn't help but step back. "Just chatting. That's all."
"Well if it's nothing important than you wouldn't mind me taking him to get ready for the show."
"Not at all." He smirked as he turned his attention towards Seth. "Just think about it." With that Randy turned around and walked away.
She heard the deep breath that pushed out of Seth as the man disappeared out of sight. "What was that about?" She questioned.
"What? Oh nothing." He shook his head. "He was just trying to get into my head."
"What does he want you to think about?"
There was a flash that Seth's face seemed to change into almost guilt before he turned and draped his arm around her shoulders. "Oh, he uh, he wanted me to uh, convince Dean and Roman into either not going through with the Payback fight or to take a dive."
"Of course, he did." Randy was known for doing anything to get his way. She was painfully aware of that.
"Yeah but I told him flat out no. Even if I wanted to Roman and Dean would never accept that…they would never forgive me." Seth's voice trailed off.
"Never is a bold thing to say." She laughed. "I would say a very long time."
"Gee thanks." He ruffled her hair as they started toward the dark corner that they had claimed.
D.D.D
Dean exhaled as he wrapped up his hands, though it was all for not. They weren't getting a match tonight. Everyone said it was to make sure that they were ok for Payback. Which as much as he hated to admit made a lot of sense, but it didn't mean he had to be happy with it.
After two days of lounging around at home doing nothing, he was ready to get back into the ring and fight. He had been so excited to get back for Smackdown, but as soon as they landed in Georgia last night, Angel had broken the news that they had been barred from fighting tonight and the best they were going to get was a promo.
He would have to resort to getting out some of his anger using his words.
A noise coming down the dark hall made him look up to see both Seth and Angel walking through the piles of crap.
He raised a brow at the two members of the Shield. "Thought you were out with the girls?" he questioned. "Didn't realize that Seth counted, I mean his hair is a bit long and all."
"Wow, let's not talk about long hair now." Roman put up his hands.
Angel laughed. "I was, that was until I ran into this one having a 'chat' with Randy Orton." Dean didn't know what to focus on more the words Randy Orton or that fact that she used air quotes when she said chat.
"What did Orton want?" Roman asked his voice dropping low.
"You know, same old same old." Seth sighed. "He was trying to get us to take a dive on Sunday."
A laugh pushed past Dean's lips. "He wants us to take a dive? What kind of moron is he?"
"Must be scared." Roman smirked.
"Yeah, must be." Seth glanced away as he leaned against the wall.
"So," Angel took clapped her hands. "Do you guys want to go through a run down for the promo?"
"Nah." He shook his head. "You know winging it is more our style."
"Can't argue with that." She snickered.
While they finished getting ready for the show, Dean's eyes ran over to Angel who was pulling out her vest from her bag. Running his fingers through his hair, his mind ran back to one of the things that had been on his mind over the last couple of days. Well other than beating Evolution to a pulp.
Sunday was going to be a No Holds Barred Match, which meant anything goes and that was the type of match he didn't want Angel anywhere near. Just the thought of her being a target, had him on edge. He was going to bring this up to her over the week, but he just couldn't seem to bring himself to do over the phone.
Well, know is a good time as any. He told himself as he pounded his fists together testing out his tape job. Taking a deep breath, he pushed himself from the wall and started over to the woman who was fixing the laces on corset part of her vest.
As he stopped in front of her, she looked up with a smile. A smile that was about to fall. He knew she wasn't going to like what he was about to say. But it needed to be done.
"We need to talk about Sunday." He hated how quiet his voice.
"Ok?" She questioned.
Pursing his lips, he let his eyes dart around the small area. "I've been thinking, I don't think you should be out there for our match."
"What?" She sounded like the air was pushed from her lungs.
Gritting his teeth, he forced his eyes to look back at her. "I don't want you at ringside for our match on Sunday."
"I…"
"No." He shook his head. "We're not negotiating this one." As soon as the words left him he almost regretted it as a pure look of shock filled her face.
"But I…"
"Angel I agree with him." Roman spoke up.
"Same." Seth nodded.
Glancing at his brothers he gave them a silent 'thank you' before turning back to his girlfriend who looked as if they all deceived her.
Angel glanced around. "You want me to sit backstage and just watch."
"Yes." He said plainly. "I know you want to be out there for us, but this match isn't safe. In the ring, out of the ring, it's not going to make no difference, not with this match. Extreme Rules got out of control and that was a normal match." And because of that you got hurt. His eyes dropped to her ankle. "Who the hell knows how this one is going to go."
"What if I sit on commentary again."
"Not going to work." Roman shook his head. "Those tables are probably going to be broken within the first few minutes of the match."
"Angel there isn't a single spot that is going to be safe for you at ringside." Dean hated the gutted look on her face, but he wasn't about to let up on this one.
Even if there was somewhere at ringside that he could guarantee her safety, he didn't want her down here. Because he knew that she would end up leaving that spot and getting herself into trouble. And knowing that Hunter had his favorite weapon, he wasn't going to take the chance of her getting involved. No, she would be saver if she stayed backstage. He wrapped his arms around her waist. "Just this once, please." He said pulling out the big guns.
Angel's face softened and he knew he had won. "Fine, just this once." She said leaning into him.
A huge weight was lifted from him as he leaned down and gave her a kiss.
A.A.A.
While Angel stood against the wall by the upper entrance waiting for the Shield's theme to play, she thought of a way that she could be safely down at ringside for their match at Payback. Though she knew that Dean was right. Due to the nature of the match, there wasn't a single spot where she wouldn't be in the way.
She also knew that if she was down there, Dean's focus wouldn't be hundred percent on the match and that wasn't an option. But she couldn't stand the thought that they were going to fighting without her there to cheer them on.
"Showtime!" Roman called out as their theme hit.
Almost instantly they lined up just like normal before heading out into the crowd. It was a rowdy one. The cheers were so loud that she almost didn't hear their names being announced over the speakers.
When they got to the ring, Angel made a detour and walked over to the crew member who holding out a mic. "Thank you." She said taking it from him.
"We have a video package for them queued up."
She nodded as she turned away from the man and got into the ring. Standing up, she walked over to the three men who stood in the middle and held out the mic. "Who's starting?"
"I'll go." Seth said taking it.
"Alright." She nodded. "Hey just warning they apparently have a video package for us." She gave the man a heads up that they might interrupt whatever he was going to say to play it.
Seth nodded and turned towards the camera man who was getting to into the ring with them.
Taking a deep breath, she got ready for whatever was going to come out boys' mouths.
As soon as their music died down, Seth stared. "It's said what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Well in the case of the Shield; we're stronger, we're angrier, we're hungrier, and after what happened to us on Monday, we're more focused then we've ever been."
He paused and the video package started to play up on the titantron. It was a quick recap of what happened on Monday. Which was fine, until she saw Hunter pulled out the sledgehammer.
Angel's jaw went tight as she drifted her eyes down to the corner of the ring. She didn't want to relive the moment; she had seen in up close and personal. Even though she wasn't watching it, she knew what was happening just by the music cues and the random parts of commentary they had decided to put in.
"Give me that." Dean growled just as the video package cut out.
She looked up to watch Dean crack his neck. "Now I'm sure that footage makes Evolution pretty happy." He started. "but come on, you should know by now exactly what kind of people you're dealing with here. See, we're the kind of people, we just don't care. You beat us up, you leave laying, you hit us with a sledgehammer in the head…we just don't care."
I mean I care a little bit. Angel sighed.
"And this Sunday at Payback it's No Hold Barred Elimination, that means anything goes. And you're going to find out just how far we're willing to do, you going to find out low we're willing to sink and Evolution you're going to have to ask yourselves a question, JUST HOW CRAZY ARE YOU WILLING TO GET?"
The crowd cheered as Dean mean mugged the camera, she could see the anger building in the mans face. And now the whole world could. "Best at your best boys, bring everything you go and bring two of them because the Hounds are going to be off the leash…" He said pulling at his collar. "And this going to get real, REAL UGLY."
When he was finished, he practically threw the mic at her before he took off pacing around the ring. She shook her head and brought the mic up to her mouth. How to follow that?
"Do you really think that you intimidated them by bring out the sledgehammer?" The words flowed from her without a thought. "Nope, as I said on Monday; all you did was anger the dogs. You reminded them just what kind of match it will be on Sunday. Which I don't think was very smart now, do you?" She turned back towards the three men behind her.
"I mean look at them. This entire time they had been dominating WWE they had, as Dean put it, 'leashes' around their neck. Had rules they had to listen to. And sure, they broke the rules sometimes, but now…now there are none. The leashes are gone. The leashes are gone, and you went and made them angry, when and stirred them up."
She shook her head. "They already wanted to tear you apart, but now… good luck" She passed the mic off to Seth.
"Not only is match on Sunday No Holds Barred, it's also contested under elimination rules, which means when I pin Randy Orton…" He chuckled. "He's got to take a walk. But don't worry Randy if you can't stand, I'm sure they'll be a stretcher nearby to wheel you to the back. You see what starts on a level playing field can quickly turn into three on two and from there it can turn into three on one. And after we eliminate Randy Orton maybe we'll eliminate Batista. And maybe fate would have it that Triple H would be left out here, by himself, in the center of the ring, circled by the Hounds of Justice."
"And if that were the case, we'll take our time. But rest assured, we'll finish the job, we will eliminate Triple H and at Payback the end of Evolution will be extinction."
Seth pasted the mic to Roman who looked Dean into the camera. "Evolution triple powerbombed me into the announce table just like that on Monday night. Big mistake, because on Sunday at Payback we're going to torture you with Kendo sticks, with chairs, we're going to break barricades and we're going to break every single announce table we have available. And we're going to win, again! Believe that and believe in the Shield."
As their music started up again, Dean stopped pacing and turned towards her. "Ready?"
"Do you really think you would pick me up with your ribs?" Dean raised a brow before scooping her up without another word. "That wasn't a challenge." She said gripping onto the man.
"Sounded like one to me." He teased as he stepped in for the fist bumps.
"Well it wasn't."
"Just shut up and look pretty for the camera."
A deep chuckle came from Roman. "Children behave. Don't make me separate you."
"You can try, Ro. You can try." Dean smirked.
…
When they got backstage Angel heard Dean let out a grunt before he set her down on the floor. "See, you're regretting it." She teased.
Dean turned towards her as he rubbed his stomach. "Nah, I regret the trying to jostle you around a bit while walking up the ramp, but I don't regret picking you up. You weigh less than my gym back." She rolled her eyes at him. "What?"
"Nothing." She gave him a light smack on the chest before turning toward the other two men who were standing behind them. "So, we finished our job for tonight. What do you guys say we head out and find something fun to do? The night is still young."
Seth laughed. "What did you have in mind?"
"I don't know." She shrugged. "Hit up a bar? Or if you guys want, we could hit up a casino we are in Atlanta so there are plenty of options."
"You want go to a casino here, but not when you were spending three days in Las Vegas with this one?" He guested to Dean.
"Well, when I was in Vegas, I didn't need to go to a casino to have fun and it was just a suggestion."
"Well Imma veto that suggestion. I don't feel like losing a bunch of money tonight." Dean sighed.
"So, I guess that means we're hitting up a bar." Angel sighed. She should have realized that suggesting something new wasn't going to work. The boys liked what they liked and hitting up a chill bar and grabbing a drink after a show or hard match was most certainly what they liked.
"I'm good with that."
"Same."
"I think Seth and I are due a rematch." Roman said as he took off his gauntlet.
Angel shook her head. "I mean if you really want." She said thinking back to the last game of pool they had. Dean and her, had crushed them twice.
"Oh, someone sounds cocky."
Dean leaned on her shoulders and rested his head on hers. "Of course, she is. We wiped the floor with you idiots last time."
"Remember we were already like four drinks in." Roman justified.
"Yeah well so were we." Dean smirked.
Everyone laughed as they walked to the back corner of the arena. On the way, everyone started to strip down. The vests came off, the gloves, the gauntlet even Dean's tape disappeared. With nothing else to do they were ready to head out.
When they got to their corner, Angel went over to her bag and grabbed her phone out of the small front pocket. Her eyes widened when she saw a message from Rachael Hanson the lead member of the wardrobe department.
The message asked for her to come down and meet with her before she leaves. "Shoot."
"Everything ok?" Dean asked as rummaged around his back beside her.
"Rachael wants to meet with me about something."
"Rachael? You mean the girl from wardrobe?"
"Yeah."
"Well you better hurry up," Roman piped up. "I'm starving."
Angel nodded as she quickly made her way down towards the make up and wardrobe departments. Once she was there she looked around until she saw Rachael walking out from behind one of the curtained off areas.
"Angel!" She smiled. "Hey, how have you been? I haven't seen you in forever. The vest still working out for you."
Angel smiled back at the woman. "Yeah everything fine." She answered. It took her a little while, but she finally got used to parading around in the vest corset think that they had made for her. At least it fit her unlike Dean's old one.
"That's good."
"So, you wanted to meet with me?"
Rachael's eyes lit up. "Yes. So, I was told that you were the ones who did the design for the mask at WrestleMania."
"I was." She was wondering why this was being brought up right now.
"Well I loved it so much, I was wondering if you would design some merch for the Shield."
"Merch?" Her eyes widened.
"Yeah it could be a shirt, hat…we're getting into summer so maybe a tank top or you know whatever." She stated. "The fans are really behind the shield right now and it's been a long time since we've released anything new for them, so we wanted to get something made and I instantly thought of you."
Angel heart beat so hard in her chest as her stomach filled with butterflies. "I'm faltered."
"Will you do it?"
"Yeah, of course."
Excitement built with in her.
"Alright! I can't wait to see what you got!"
After saying good by to Rachael, Angel raced back towards the boys. She still couldn't believe that they wanted her to design some merch for the Shield. What would she do? A shirt probably? But what after that? Um the three wolves thing had been used before. Maybe something to do with their fist bump or something like that.
"Angel!" Dean's voice called her as she ran past the loading dock.
She looked skidded to a halt to see her teammates standing there with all of their bags including hers. "Hi."
"What are you running about for?" Seth asked with a slight chuckle.
"I was," She tired to catch her breath. "running to meet you."
"I figured."
"So what did Rachael want?" Dean asked.
Angel couldn't help the huge smile that appeared on her face. "They want me to design some merch for you guys."
"Oh?"
"Yeah!"
Everyone gave her a smile and congratulated her. "What are you thinking of doing?"
"I have no idea, I'll have to mock some things up when we get back to the hotel." She said bouncing on her feet.
"You wanna head back now?" Roman questioned.
Angel shook her head. "No, we have a rematch to do!"
…
Angel sighed as she watched yet another ball roll into the pocket of the pool table, they had made themselves at home for the last two hours. After they had finished beating Roman and Seth for the third time, both men had decided to take a break. So now it was once again her verse Dean and once again Dean was schooling her.
With a smirk on his face, Dean walked around the table and hit yet another ball into the pocket. Angel slid a bit forward in her spot on the edge of the table as the cue ball rolled right up to her.
"Excuse me." Dean said as he walked up to her.
"What?" She cocked her head, as she swung her legs.
"Aren't you going to move, so I can take my next move?" He said gesturing to the cue ball.
"Nah." She smirked at the man. Though just before she was about to jump down and let him take his turn, Dean stepped in front of her his eyes locked on her. Looking into her eyes he brought his stick up and over her before leading down.
Her eyes widened as he pressed himself against her so he could reach around her and line up his shot. She felt his shoulder against her stomach as he readjusted his stance. There's no way. She murmured to herself turned to watch what he was doing.
Without any hesitation, he took the shot and the ball went right into the pocket he was aiming for.
"How is the world!" Roman called from the table. "There is no way in hell that I just saw that go in."
Angel sat there baffled as Dean untangled himself from around her. He winked at her before going for his next shot.
"How are you so good at this?" She asked the man to sank yet another ball.
"What can I say." He smirked as the cue ball landed next to her again. "I'm a god."
When he went to do line up his shot the same way as he did the first time and glanced over to Seth and Roman who were mouth 'distract him' and 'bump him'. She gave a nod before looking down at the man who wrapped himself around her. Her eyes instantly went to the small bit of skin she would see poking out at the bottom of his shirt.
Smirking, she leaned forward a bit and ran her nails up his back, pushing his shirt up as well.
Then man under her gasped and tensed as she heard a hit behind her happen. Quickly she turned around and watched as the cue ball missed everything. "Ooo…" She whistled. "Looks like it's my shot." She patted him on the back.
Dean stood up and she was met with a darkened look in his eyes. "Is that how we're going to play this?"
She winked at him before sauntering off to line up her shot. Now it was her turn to clean the table, only thing is Dean only had left two balls in the eight ball. Which meant if she missed one shot, she would most likely loose.
She took the shot and it was clean, going straight into the corner pocket. Walking around she lined up another shot and another ball went right in. Taking a deep breath, she wondered how long her luck keep going.
Answer? Right up until she went to talk another shoot and all of a sudden, she felt a warm weight press into her back. Her body tensed as she knew right away what it was. This was Dean's way of retaliating.
Trying to clear her thoughts about what the man behind her was doing, she leaned over to take the shot. "Careful with that." Dean gruff voice echoed in her ear. "You look a little too good bent over this table."
Her face went instantly red as she straightens up, though not before her cue stick hit against the cue ball and sent it rolling.
"Looks like it's my shot." Dean chuckled.
Sighing, Angel walked over to the table and sat down. She already knew that Dean was going to clear house. And she rather sip on her drink and chat with Roman and Seth then watch her defeat.
"Good try." Seth said as soon as she sat down.
She shrugged her shoulders and grabbed a handful of chips. "Should have known playing dirty wasn't going to help."
Dean looked up from the shot he was making. "Hey, you almost had me." He teased. "You just forgot that I'm the master of playing dirty." He said sinking his last ball. "Eight ball, middle pocket." He pointed across the table.
"Alright." She sighed as she munched on her chips. She let out a sigh when she heard the ball hit the pocket.
"So, now that your battle is over, did you get any ideas for our merch."
She shook her head as she grabbed one of the bar napkins and rummaged through her backpack purse. "Not really." She said pulling out a pen. "I was thinking about something different from the normal Hounds of Justice thing with the three wolves." She started to sketch out a shirt.
"Ok?"
"Maybe something with something the fist bump or something." She threw there circles that were supposed to represent their fists. "Or maybe something else."
"I like the fist bump idea but it needs something else." Dean said leaning over her shoulder.
"Like what though?"
She shrugged. "Um…could put the Shield theme thing. Sierra, Hotel, India, Echo, Lima, Delta…" She said as she wrote it down around the three fists. "Or maybe you're guys signatures."
"I don't know if I liked the signature idea." Roman said. "Mines just scribble of two rs."
"Maybe, I'll play with them a bit." She said as she looked at her drawings.
D.D.D.
"Angel you really need to go to sleep." Dean chuckled as turned off the TV and rolled over in bed to look at Angel who was still up working on the design for the piece of merch that she was asked to make.
"Just a moment." She answered him as she scribbled something else down on the paper. After a few moments she let out a frustrated groan as she threw her pencil down on the table. "I give up!" She cried as she gathered up the papers.
"I'm sure it's not that bad, let me see." He told her as he sat up so he was leaning against the headboard.
With a few pieces of paper in hand, she made her way up onto the bed and crawled over to him. "I'm trying to make like logos for you guys, but it's hard." She handed him the papers which were covered in what looked like madman's scribbling.
He drew his brows together as he looked at the first page, it was covered in different designs of his initials, most of which were scratched out. The three that were untouched were all sight variations of the same intertwined version of the letters. Which he had to say looked like a well-polished version of his actual signature.
"I like this one." He said pointing to the second version that had the D and A overlapping as ell as looking rough almost like barbed wire.
"Yeah I was leading towards that one myself." She said as she took the paper and circled the one, they were talking about.
While she did that, he looked at the next sheet of paper in his hands, he knew instantly this was Seth's. There were a few different looks but the one that really drew his eye was one in the far corner. Just like his 'logo' it had both his initials connected together, side by side but what he really liked about it was the funky font that she had drawn that made the S and R have no curves to them.
"For Seth I really like this one." He pasted her the paper while tapping on the design.
Angel nodded and gave it the same treatment as his before she turned back and sighed. "I'm having trouble with Roman's." She sighed. "I can't seem to get it right, I tried making it look similar to Seth, to yours but nothing seems to work."
He nodded as he looked down last page in his hands. He could see all the different styles that she had tried for the man's two R but nothing seemed to pop.
"I'm so frustrated."
"Well no wonder you've been at this for hours, you've tired yourself out and your brain is saying 'its time to go to sleep'. Maybe with some rest you'll think of something."
"Yeah," She sighed as she took the papers and put them on the end table. "When did you become the sensible one?"
"I don't know." He smirked as he worked his way under the covers. "I don't like it."
