The Journey Begins
As Lincoln and Scorbunny raced down a dirt road towards Wedgehurst, Lincoln couldn't help but think about what he's been through the last month. He was teleported to a strange new land with creatures he never would've believed even existed. Next thing you know, he's a Pokemon trainer and he just got his first Pokemon. A minute later, they both reached the Pokemon Research Center and they stop to catch their breaths. Once they do, they go inside. Sonia was up on a catwalk, reading a book when she looks down when she hears the door open.
"Hi, Lincoln." says Sonia
"Hey, Sonia." replies Lincoln. Sonia then notices Scorbunny standing next to Lincoln.
"Is that your Scorbunny?" asked Sonia.
"Yeah. Leon is letting me be his trainer." says Lincoln. Sonia runs down to Lincoln and grabs Scorbunny in a hug.
"He's so adorable." says Sonia as she nuzzle Scorbunny's cheek. Scorbunny blushes in embarrassment.
"Anyway, Sonia. I just stopped by to let you know that I'm planning on participating in the Gym Challenge." says Lincoln. Sonia sets Scorbunny down on the ground and turns towards Lincoln.
"Somehow I knew that would be the case. I figured once you became interested in being a trainer that you would have to leave to do so." says Sonia.
"Is that okay?" asked Lincoln.
"Of course. It's an amazing opportunity for you to really explore the Galar Region. The only parts of it you've seen are Wedgehurst, Grandma Magnolia's house, and Postwick. There are a lot more places you could see and it wouldn't be fair for you to be limited to those areas and miss out on all the other amazing places you could see here." said Sonia.
"So I can go?" asked Lincoln.
"It's your choice. I don't have the right to tell you what to do with your life. I'll miss having you around. You've done an awesome job of cleaning the lab, and Yamper is going to miss you." said Sonia as Yamper walks up to Lincoln and nuzzles his leg.
"Maybe I can stop by and visit you both from time to time when I'm able to." said Lincoln.
"Oh, Yamper would love that." said Sonia. Yamper smiles and wags his tail with joy.
"Anyway, before you go; can I see your Rotom Phone for a minute?" asked Sonia. Lincoln pulls out his Rotom Phone and hands it to Sonia. Sonia puts a small computer chip into it and types in a command on it. She then hands it back to Lincoln.
"What did you do?" asked Lincoln.
"I added the pokedex to your phone." says Sonia. "This will allow you to scan Pokemon and record any data on them. Why don't you try it out? Just point it towards a Pokemon and push the blue button." Lincoln points it towards Scorbunny and acitvates the pokedex.
"Scorbunny, the Rabbit Pokemon. A warm-up of running around gets fire energy coursing through this Pokemon's body. Once that happens, it's ready to fight at full power." says the pokedex. He then points it towards Yamper. "Yamper, the Puppy Pokemon. This Pokemon is popular in Galar as a herding dog. As it runs, it generates electricity at the base of its tail" Lincoln puts his phone back in his pocket.
"To get a full record of a Pokemon's data, you'll need to capture it. Do you know how to?" asked Sonia.
"I have to battle a Pokemon in order to weaken it; then I take an empty pokeball and throw it at the Pokemon in order to capture it." said Lincoln.
"Exactly. Here's some empty pokeballs to help you get started." says Sonia as she hands Lincoln five empty pokeballs.
"Thanks, Sonia." says Lincoln.
"Also, Grandma Magnolia would really like it if you could complete the pokedex. That means capturing every Pokemon in the Galar Region." said Sonia.
"I'll do my best." says Lincoln. Sonia's eyes suddenly widened as she remembered something.
"Hold on. Let me grab something else for you." says Sonia. She runs into the research area of the lab and pulls a small box out of the desk. She then runs over to Lincoln and hands it to him.
"What's this?" asked Lincoln. He opens the box and sees two small devices that remind him of his old Noise-B-Gone earplugs he had before.
"Those are a prototype of a new invention that are in development. They're called PokeTranslators." says Sonia. "You put them into your ears and turn them on. Once you do, you should be able to understand what Pokemon are saying." Lincoln's eyes widen in surprise.
"That is so cool!" says Lincoln. He puts them in his ears and pushes the buttons on them to activate them.
"Go ahead, Lincoln. Try talking to Scorbunny." says Sonia. Lincoln turns towards Scorbunny and kneels down.
"Hi, Scorbunny. How are you?" asked Lincoln.
"I'm fine. Thanks for asking." said Scorbunny. Lincoln's eyes widened in amazement.
"Wow! They really work!" says Lincoln.
"That's great. Keep using them and let us know how well they work." says Sonia.
"Okay." says Lincoln. He turns back towards Scorbunny. "Scorbunny. Are you ready to begin training?" Lincoln asked Scorbunny.
"You bet I am, Lincoln." says Scorbunny.
"Let's do this." says Lincoln. They leave the lab and head to the clothing store so Lincoln can buy a white canvas bag to carry stuff with in his journey. Once he does, they head back towards Route 1 to begin training. Lincoln sees some tall grass and goes over to check it out. Upon exploring, a Rookiedee jumps out and stares at the two. Lincoln pulls out the pokedex and points it at Rookiedee.
"Rookiedee, the Tiny Bird Pokemon. It will bravely challenge any Pokemon, no matter how powerful. This Pokemon benefits from every battle; even a defeat increases its strength a bit." says the pokedex. After hearing what the pokedex had to say, Lincoln puts it back in his pocket.
"Are you ready for this, Scorbunny?" Lincoln asked Scorbunny.
"You bet I am." says Scorbunny. Scorbunny then runs up in front of Rookiedee and stands ready to fight.
"Okay, Scorbunny. Use Tackle." says Lincoln. Scorbunny runs at Rookiedee and tackles him.
"Argh!" yells the Rookiedee as it stumbles backwards. Rookiedee regains his balance and jumps at Scorbunny and pecks at his forehead.
"Ow!" yells Scorbunny.
"Scorbunny. Are you okay?" asked Lincoln.
"Don't worry; that was nothing." said Scorbunny.
"Okay. Now use Ember." said Lincoln. Scorbunny releases an Ember attack from his mouth which hits Rookiedee.
"Hot! Hot! Hot!" says Rookiedee. Lincoln quickly pulls a pokeball out of his pants pocket and pushes the little button on it, enlarging it.
"Pokeball, go!" says Lincoln as he throws the pokeball at Rookiedee. It hits the Rookiedee and sucks it in. The ball wiggles a little bit before it stops and clicks, indicating a successful capture. Lincoln walks over and picks up the pokeball. "We did it, Scorbunny. Our very first capture."
"Hooray!" cheers Scorbunny. Lincoln hears a chime from his phone. He pulls it out of his pocket and watches as more detailed information on Rookiedee appears on it.
"Well we're off to a good start. But we have a long way to go. Ready for some more battling?" asked Lincoln.
"Ready when you are, Lincoln." says Scorbunny. The two continued training in Route 1, capturing all the Pokemon they could. So far; Lincoln captured a Rookiedee, a Skwovet, a Caterpie, a Wooloo, and a Nickit. Also, Scorbunny learned Quick Attack. Lincoln would've captured more, but he used up all his pokeballs.
"I think we did a lot for today. Let's go to the Pokemon Center and get you rested and healed." said Lincoln.
"Okay. I can use a little break." said Scorbunny as he stretched. They all head back to Wedgehurst and went into the Pokemon Center. Once inside, Lincoln brings Scorbunny and all the Pokemon he captured over to the nurse and hands them to her.
"Thank you, young man. I'll have your Pokemon healed up in no time." said the nurse.
"Thanks." says Lincoln. As his Pokemon were being healed, Lincoln checks out the store and sees if they sold pokeballs. But to his disappointment, they didn't; so Lincoln decided to just buy a few potions. Lincoln then decided to stop by the research lab and visit Sonia for a little bit. Sonia greeted him when he walked in the door.
"Hi, Lincoln. How are you doing so far?" asked Sonia. Yamper runs over to Lincoln and jumps into his arms. Lincoln pets him on his head and sets him back down.
"So far, so good." said Lincoln as he shows Sonia his pokedex. Sonia takes it and looks it over.
"This is a good start. But I'm sure you know that you still have a long way to go." says Sonia as she hands the pokedex back to Lincoln.
"I know. Say; do you have any more pokeballs around? I used up all the ones that you gave me." said Lincoln.
"Sorry. I'm all out." replied Sonia.
"Oh, man. And the store here doesn't sell any." said Lincoln.
"Maybe you can find a store that sells them later on in your journey." said Sonia.
"Good idea." says Lincoln.
"So where's Scorbunny?" asked Sonia.
"At the Pokemon Center. He needed some rest." said Lincoln.
"You two must've been busy training and capturing Pokemon." said Sonia.
"Yeah. Scorbunny learned Quick Attack." said Lincoln.
"Good. That means Scorbunny's already getting stronger. I'm sure you two will make a powerful team." said Sonia.
"Thanks, Sonia. Maybe we'll become strong enough to challenge Leon someday." said Lincoln.
"I'm sure you may. But you still have a long way to go before you get to his level." said Sonia.
"I know." said Lincoln. They chatted for ten more minutes before they decided to head back to Professor Magnolia's house. Before they did, they stopped by the Pokemon Center and pick up Lincoln's Pokemon. Scorbunny runs to Lincoln and hugs him. "How are you feeling Scorbunny?" Lincoln asked Scorbunny.
"Good as new." replies Scorbunny.
"That's good to hear. Ready to go?" asked Lincoln.
"Yes I am." said Scorbunny. Lincoln, Sonia, and Scorbunny exit the Pokemon Center and start heading towards Route 2. Along the way, they stopped by the berry store and Lincoln bought a dozen Oran Berries. As they all started walking down Route 2, Lincoln pulls out the other five pokeballs from his pocket.
"Sonia. What should I do with these other Pokemon?" asked Lincoln.
"Well that's up to you. You can put them in the Pokemon Storage System at the Pokemon Center, or you can keep them with you for your team. Personally, I think you should train them for a while. Some Pokemon evolve when they become strong enough. That'll add more data to your pokedex." said Sonia.
"Good idea." says Lincoln. As they travelled down Route 2, Lincoln trained all the Pokemon he had on him. During the training, Lincoln's Scorbunny learned Double Kick. His Rookiedee already knew Peck, and Leer; but after training she learned Power Trip, and Fury Attack. Nickit already knew Quick Attack, and Tail Whip; after training, he learned Hone Claws and Beat Up. Wooloo already knew Tackle, Growl, and Defense Curl; but after training she learned Copycat. Skwovet already knew Tackle, and Tail Whip; after training he learned Bite, and Stuff Cheeks. Although Caterpie didn't learn any new moves; something just as good happened; he evolved into Metapod and learned Harden; then some time after that, he evolved into Butterfree and learned Gust. Ten minutes later after that, Lincoln was giving his Pokemon some of the Oran Berries he purchased to restore some of their health. "How are you guys feeling?" Lincoln asked the Pokemon.
"I feel stronger." said Scorbunny.
"Same here." said Rookiedee.
"Me, too." said Skwovet.
"I feel like a whole new Pokemon." said the recently evolved Butterfree.
"That's because you ARE a whole new Pokemon." said Wooloo
"Good point." said Butterfree.
"Thanks for training us, Lincoln. We're stronger than ever." said Nickit.
"Thanks, Lincoln." said all the other Pokemon in unison.
"You're welcome." said Lincoln as he stood up.
"You're really chatting it up with your Pokemon; aren't you, Lincoln?" said Sonia.
"Yeah. The PokeTranslators are working perfectly." said Lincoln.
"That's good to hear." said Sonia. "Anyway, it's starting to get late. We should start heading back to the house."
"Yeah." said Lincoln. He returns all his Pokemon, except Scorbunny, back to their pokeballs. Lincoln picked up Scorbunny and puts him on his shoulders.
"What are you doing, LIncoln?" asked Scorbunny.
"You did a lot of work today. I thought I'd let you rest your feet for a bit." said Lincoln. Scorbunny smiles with delight and nuzzles the top of Lincoln's head. Sonia looks at them with adoration.
"That is so cute." said Sonia. The two then continue on their way to Professor Magnolia's house.

Authors Note: As you can see, we decided to go ahead and just translate what the Pokemon are saying. Also, there's a problem with our 'Which Loud Sisters should join Lincoln'. We keep getting a error message saying it's an 'invalid poll'. We don't know if it's a problem on our end, but maybe you can just leave which sisters you think should join Lincoln in the review section. We'll add the votes on Friday, so vote while you can and have the time. We'll also take suggestions for what Pokemon should Lincoln should have on his team. This story will be based on Pokemon: Sword, so we'll only be using Pokemon that can only be found in that game.
