Welcome to the Wild Area
The next morning, Lincoln and Scorbunny woke up to have breakfast with Professor Magnolia and Sonia. After that, they began talking about Lincoln's plans for his journey.
"Okay, Lincoln. We need to go over what you have to do." said Professor Magnolia.
"Okay." said Lincoln.
"You need to go to Wedgehurst Station and take the train to Motostoke City. When you get there, you need to go to Motostoke Stadium to register for the Gym Challenge. Do you still have your letter of endorsement?" asked Professor Magnolia. Lincoln reaches into his back pocket and pulls out the endorsement letter.
"Got it right here, and I'll be extra careful not to lose it." said Lincoln.
"Good." said Professor Magnolia. "And I still want you to try and capture as many Pokemon as you can in order to fill the pokedex." said Professor Magnolia.
"I know. While I was training my Pokemon, I saw some Pokemon I haven't captured mainly because I ran out of pokeballs. But with the ones I got from Leon yesterday, I can try to capture them before I leave for Motostoke." said Lincoln.
"That would be wonderful, Lincoln." said Professor Magnolia.
"Before I forget, Lincoln. We have some things that you can use on your journey." said Sonia. Sonia went upstairs and came back down with some camping gear for Lincoln; including a tent and a cooking pot. Also, she had a fishing rod with her. "Some Pokemon can only be caught with a fishing rod. If you're going to complete the pokedex, you'll definitely need that."
"Thanks. I really appreciate this." said Lincoln.
"You're quite welcome, Lincoln." said Professor Magnolia. Sonia reaches into her jacket and pulls out a small book.
"Here's a book with some curry recipes in it, also. You'll need to find and purchase the ingredients yourself." said Sonia. She then pulls out a small computer chip and hands it to Lincoln. "And that's a Pokemon Box Link for your Rotom Phone. It will allow you to access the Pokemon Storage System anywhere you are. That will come in handy when you want to swap Pokemon." says Sonia. Professor Magnolia then reaches into her lab coat pocket and pulls out two white wristbands and hands them to Lincoln.
"What are these?" asked Lincoln.
"Those are Dynamax Bands, Lincoln. One's for you, and one's for Hop." said Professor Sonia.
"Awesome. I'll be sure to give Hop his Dynamax Band when I see him at the station. So how do these work?" asked Lincoln.
"When you're in a place that you can Dynamax in, the Dynamax Band will absorb surrounding Dynamax energy into it. After that, you return the Pokemon you have out to its pokeball and the Dynamax Band will transfer the energy it collected into the pokeball making it and the Pokemon inside it a lot larger, then you simply throw the pokeball, releasing the pokemon, which should become a lot larger; that's the process called Dynamaxing. Mind you that the process is only temporary and only last a short while before the Pokemon return to its normal size." explained Professor Magnolia.
"I think I got it, Professor." said Lincoln as he slips his Dynamax Band onto his wrist.
"And don't forget to give Hop his Dynamax Band also." said Sonia.
"I won't." said Lincoln. After breakfast was done, and the dishes were washed, Lincoln was finally ready to go. He was standing outside with Professor Magnolia and Sonia with Scorbunny at his side,looking out at the road ahead. Lincoln turns to Professor Magnolia and Sonia. "I guess this is before I head out, I want to just say thanks again for everything you both did for me this last month. I can never repay you for the kindness you shown me and everything that you taught me about Pokemon."
"You're quite welcome, Lincoln." said Professor Magnolia.
"We enjoyed having you around." said Lincoln. Lincoln hugs the both of them, then turns around and leaves with Scorbunny. "You ready to head to Motostoke, Scorbunny?" Lincoln asked Scorbunny.
"Ready when you are." said Scorbunny. Before they left, Lincoln notices the nearby lake.
"Hmm. I do have to complete the pokedex for Professor Magnolia, and Sonia did say that some Pokemon can only be caught by fishing. I should try catching some with my new fishing rod before I go to Wedgehurst." Lincoln says to himself. He walks over to the lake, pulls out his fishing rod and drops the line into the water. After a minute, he gets a bite on his line. Lincoln pulls the line out of the water, showing he caught a red, fishlike Pokemon. Lincoln pulls his pokedex out and points it at the Pokemon.
"Magikarp, the Fish Pokemon. It is virtually worthless in terms of both speed and power. It is the most weak and pathetic Pokemon in the world." said the pokedex. Lincoln frowns in response at the entry.
"Well that's not a nice thing to say about it. I'm certain with some hard work and dedication, it could become a very powerful Pokemon." said Lincoln.
"Yeah!" replied Scorbunny. Magikarp, hearing Lincoln and Scorbunny defending her pride, starts to shed tears. Lincoln and Scorbunny see this and kneel down to her.
"Are you okay?" Lincoln asked Magikarp.
"Yes. It's just that every other trainer that caught me just tossed me back in the water after saying that I'm not worth having on their teams." said Magikarp.
"What?! Well those people are just a bunch of jerks. Would you like to come with me?" asked Lincoln. Magikarp starts to jump with joy.
"Yes! Yes, please! I want to become stronger! I want to see the world!" said Magikarp. Lincoln laughs at Magikarp's enthusiasm.
"In that case, welcome to our team." says Lincoln as he pulls out a pokeball and gently taps Magikarp's head with it. Magikarp was immediately sucked into it and was caught, mainly because she didn't really struggle to get out. Lincoln smiles at the pokeball. Suddenly, without warning, the pokeball becomes surrounded with energy and disappears. Lincoln shouts in response. Sonia and Professor Magnolia, hearing Lincoln's shout, come over to him as fast as they could.
"Lincoln! Are you okay?" asked Sonia.
"Yeah. It's just that I just caught a Magikarp; but the pokeball that she was in suddenly vanished." explained Lincoln.
"How many Pokemon do you have with you." asked Professor Magnolia.
"I have six Pokemon with me right now." said Lincoln.
"I see. Trainers are only allowed to have up to six Pokemon with them at any given time." explained Professor Magnolia.
"If you want to get Magikarp back, just use the new Pokemon Box Link I just gave you. Here, I'll show you how it works." says Sonia as she takes Lincoln's Rotom Phone and shows him how to use the Box Link. After that, Lincoln used it to swap his Butterfree for his Magikarp. Once he got Magikarp, he lets her out to make sure she was okay.
"What's going on?" asked Magikarp.
"Your pokeball just disappeared after I caught you. Professor Magnolia explained why it happened and Sonia helped me get you back. I just let you out to make sure that you were okay." said Lincoln. Magikarp flopped up into Lincoln's arms, happy with the fact that Lincoln truly cared about her.
"Thanks for caring about me." said Magikarp.
"No problem." said Lincoln.
"So are you okay now, Lincoln?" asked Professor Magnolia.
"I am now. Sorry if I worried you two." said Lincoln.
"It's alright, Lincoln." said Professor Magnolia. After that, Lincoln fished a little bit longer, making sure to have Magikarp out when he battled Pokemon, just to give her some experience. He also caught a Chewtle, and an Arrokuda. As he travelled down Route 2, he also captured a Zigzagoon, a Seedot, a Yamper, a Hoothoot, a Blipbug, a Lotad, and a Purrloin. Magikarp couldn't do much, mainly because she only knew Splash, but she was still getting some experience which was making her stronger each time. Once Lincoln he felt he caught all the kinds of Pokemon that were on Route 2, he headed to Wedgehurst. When he got there, he went to the Pokemon Center to get his Pokemon healed. After that, he went over to Route 1 to catch a Grubbin for his collection. Once that was done, he finally went to Wedgehurst Station. Inside, Hop was sitting on a bench, waiting for him.
"There you are, Lincoln. I was worried you wouldn't make it." said Hop.
"Sorry about that, Hop. I was busy catching Pokemon and training." said Lincoln.
"That's okay. I've been busy training my Pokemon also. Our battle yesterday really got me motivated to train more." said Hop.
"Oh. Before I forget, I got something for you from Professor Magnolia." said Lincoln. He pulls out the Dynamax Band for Hop and gives it to him."
"My Dynamax Band! I forgot all about this. Thanks, Lincoln. You're the best!" said Hop.
"You're welcome." said Lincoln. Lincoln explained to him how it worked.
"Awesome! Now I can Dynamax my Pokemon." said Hop.
"Yeah. So are we ready to go?" asked Lincoln.
"You bet I am." said Hop. They purchased train tickets to go to Motostoke. After that, they boarded the train and they were on their way. As they headed towards Motostoke, they were looking at their Rotom Phones, looking up information about the Wild Area that surrounded Motostoke. They learned about the Pokemon Dens that were all over it and that there were all kinds of Pokemon inhabiting the area.
"This is going to be awesome!" said Lincoln.
"I know! I'm getting pumped thinking about all the different kinds of Pokemon that we can capture, especially in the Pokemon Dens." said Hop.
"I can't wait to get started." said Lincoln. He scratches an itch that suddenly appeared on his cheek.
"You okay, Lincoln?" asked Hop.
"I'm fine. It's just an itch." said Lincoln with a laugh.
"Maybe you're itching with excitement. I know I am." said Hop.
"Yeah, that must be it." said Lincoln. The train suddenly begins to slow down. Lincoln looks outside their window and noticed that they weren't stopping in Motostoke.
"What's going on? We're not in Motostoke yet?" asked Hop.
"I don't know." said Lincoln. A minute later, the train came to a complete stop and Lincoln and Hop get off. Hop walks over to the station worker.
"Hey. Why did we stop in the Wild Area? Weren't we going to Motostoke?" asked Hop.
"We were. But a bunch of Wooloo are standing on the tracks and we can't continue until they get off. I'm sorry for the inconvenience." said the worker.
"What's there to be sorry about? This is perfect." says Hop.
"What do you mean?" asked Lincoln.
"Don't you see? This is the perfect opportunity to capture more Pokemon for our teams." said Hop.
"Oh, yeah!" said Lincoln. They both exit the station and stood at an opening in a nearby fence which separated the station from the Wild Area. They both look at the Wild Area and see glowing pillars of pink light in parts of it.
"What are those pillars of light?" asked Lincoln.
"Those are Pokemon Dens that have Dynamax Pokemon lurking in them right now." explained Hop.
"At least those pillars of light make finding Pokemon Dens easier to find. This area is so big." said Lincoln.
"I can't wait to get started! I'm going to stick my head in a bunch of those dens and battle a lot of Dynamax Pokemon and fill in another page of my legend. Look out Dynamax Pokemon, I'm coming for you." says Hop as he runs off.
"Well he sure has a lot of energy." said a familiar voice from behind Lincoln. Lincoln turns and sees Sonia walking towards him.
"Sonia? What are you doing here?" asked Lincoln.
"After you left, I got an earful from Grandma Magnolia about how you two are going out and doing something while I'm not." said Sonia.
"Sorry." said Lincoln.
"You don't need to apologize, Lincoln. Anyway, I decided to travel and find an amazing discovery myself. That way if I do, even Grandma will admit I have potential. Besides, it will be great to rough it like I used to." said Sonia.
"Oh. Well I hope you discover something awesome." said Lincoln.
"Thanks, Lincoln. The Gym Challenge opening ceremony starts in three days, so you have some extra time you can use to explore the Wild Area and capture more Pokemon and train the ones you have.
"Good idea, Sonia. Thanks." says Lincoln.
"You're welcome. Well I'm off." said Sonia as she walks off towards Motostoke. After that, Lincoln and Scorbunny stare off into the Wild Area.
"So are you nervous?" asked Scorbunny.
"A little. But I'm also excited. I know this will be a tough journey; but I'm sure that together that you, me, and my other Pokemon can handle this.
"I know we can!" said Scorbunny.
"Yeah. So let's get going!" said Lincoln. But before they could walk two steps, a bright flash of light appears near them, startling them.
"What was that?!" asked Scorbunny.
"I don't know. Let's check it out." said Lincoln. They walk over to where the flash came from and saw a large cardboard box. Upon inspecting it, Lincoln saw that it had a label with his name on it. "I think this box is for me."
"Where did it come from?" asked Scorbunny.
"Wait. I remember that flash from a while back. Could it be..." said Lincoln. Lincoln opens the box and saw several familiar things in it. Some of his clothes from Royal Woods, bottles of water, a tupperware container with his dad's Mac-and-Cheese Bites, a tray with his dad's Lynn-sagna, and his old device. He also saw his stuffed rabbit, Bun-Bun, and some camping gear inside as well. "Is this from my family?" asked Lincoln as he picked up his old device. Suddenly, his Rotom Phone flew out of his pocket and floated around his device. It releases a beam of electricity which hits Lincoln's device and looked like it was absorbing stuff from it.
"Copying and transferring data...Data transfer complete." said the Rotom Phone. The device Lincoln was holding suddenly shorted out and fell apart.
"Hey! What was that about?" asked Lincoln. After he said that, Lincoln's Rotom Phone started to ring. Looking at it, he saw the Caller I.D and saw that he was getting a call from...his mother. With shaking hands, Lincoln grabs the Rotom Phone and turns on the video chat function. Looking at the screen, he saw someone he hasn't seen in about a month; his mother, Rita Loud.
"Lincoln?!" said Rita with tears forming in her eyes.
"Mom?!" said Lincoln with tears forming in his eyes.
