Clyde's 2nd Trial
"So what is it you want to talk to me about, Master Mustard?" asked Clyde as he and Master Mustard stood in front of the dojo.
"It dawned on me that you're new to the Isle of Armor." said Master Mustard.
"Yes I am, master." replied Clyde.
"You probably have no idea where to even look for Max Mushrooms." said Master Mustard.
"Probably not." said Clyde.
"C'mon. I'll show you some mushroom hot spots." said Master Mustard.
"Sure, master." said Clyde. He and Master Mustard walked away from the dojo and began walking through the Soothing Wetlands. Meanwhile, at another part of the Isle of Armor in a desert known as the Potbottom Desert where a sandstorm is taking place. Lana has just found an Alola Diglett.
"That's another Alola Diglett found." said Lana. Lana spent some time in the Potbottom Desert, searching for Alola Digletts for their trainer. So far, she has found ten of them. "Boy, it's tough finding those Alola Digletts with this storm, but I can take it." As she looked around, she sees a light purple pouch partially buried in the sand. She reaches down and pulls it out. "I wonder what this is." As she was about to open it, she sees a brownish white, snakelike Pokemon crawling to her. Lana takes out her Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Silicobra, the Sand Snake Pokemon. It spews sand from its nostrils. When the enemy is blinded, it burrows into the ground to hide." said the Rotom Phone. Seeing it reminds Lana of her pet snake, El Diablo. Lana puts the pouch she found in her backpack and pulls a Net Ball out of her pocket.
"Okay. I'm catching this Pokemon. Let's go, Tympole." said Lana, throwing Tympole's pokeball and releasing him. "Tympole, Bubblebeam!" Tympole opens his mouth and releases a beam of glowing bubbles, and it hits Silicobra, causing super effective damage. Silicobra's tail glows pink and it swings it at Tympole, hitting him, and knocking him back. Tympole was hit with sand from the sandstorm, hurting him. "I better wrap this up fast. Tympole, Echoed Voice!" The two bumps on Tympole's head vibrates, releasing sound waves and they hit Silicobra, knocking it to the ground. Lana throws an empty pokeball at Silicobra and hits it, sucking it in. After wiggling around for a few seconds, it stops and clicks. Lana picks it up. "Oh yeah! Silicobra is mine!" Silicobra's pokeball glows and vanishes. "Hey! Where did the pokeball go? I'll ask Lincoln, maybe he knows." Meanwhile, Clyde and Master Mustard arrived at a forest. Master Mustard turns toward Clyde.
"This is the Forest of Focus, Clyde." said Master Mustard. "Normally, it's chock full of Max Mushrooms. But unfortunately, a group of Greedants came through and ate them all."
"Is there any other place here in the Isle of Armor we can find some?" asked Clyde.
"Somewhere outside the other side of the forest is a cavern call Warm Up Tunnel." said Master Mustard. "Watch where you're going in there. It's easy to get lost."
"Yes, master. Thank you." said Clyde.
"Good luck looking for Max Mushrooms." said Master Mustard. "I'll meet you back at the temple after you find them." He begins walking to the direction of the temple. Clyde turns towards the forest.
"Here goes nothing." said Clyde. With that, he enters the forest. Somewhere in the forest, Lincoln has found six Alola Digletts so far.
"Okay. Doing good so far." said Lincoln. He hears footsteps nearby and looks over to see Clyde. "Hey, Clyde."
"Hey, buddy." replied Clyde.
"How's the trial?" asked Lincoln.
"Still working on it." said Clyde.
"Well don't let me slow you down." said Lincoln.
"Sure thing." said Clyde and he continues walking through the forest. Lincoln continues to look around for Alola Digletts when he sees a Max Den with a purple beam coming out of it.
"Whoa. There must be a rare Pokemon in there." said Lincoln. He walks to the den and climbs inside. Once he was in, he sees a green, mantis-like Pokemon with sharp-looking blades for forearms staring at him. Lincoln takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Scyther, the Mantis Pokemon. If you come across an area in a forest where a lot of the trees have been cut down, what you've found is a Scyther's territory." said the Rotom Phone. Lincoln looks up at the Scyther and pulls a pokeball out of his pocket.
"Okay, Rockruff, let's go." said Lincoln, throwing Rockruff's pokeball and releasing him. He returns Rockruff to his pokeball and uses his Dynamax Band to enlarge it and he throws it, releasing him, now Dynamaxed. "Okay, Rockruff, Max Rockfall!" A large slab of stone rises up from the ground and it falls onto Scyther, causing super effective damage due to Scyther being part bug and part flying, both weak against rock type attacks. Scyther explodes with energy, and it freezes. Lincoln takes out an empty pokeball and uses his Dynamax Band to enlarge it. He throws it at the Scyther and it gets sucked into it. It falls to the ground and after moving around for a few seconds, it shrinks to its regular size and clicks, indicating its capture. "Woohoo! Scyther is mine!" Scyther's pokeball vanishes and is transported to storage. Lincoln exits the cave and sees two Balm Mushrooms near it. He picks them up and puts them in his backpack. He then continues searching the forest for more Alola Digletts. Outside the other side of the forest, Clyde was scanning the Training Lowlands and sees a cave.
"That must be Warm Up Tunnel over there." said Clyde. He runs over to the tunnel and enters. Clyde is walking through the tunnel, looking around when he sees three big mushrooms that looked exactly how Master Mustard described Max Mushrooms. "Those must be it." He runs over to them and reaches down to pick them up.
"Hold up a sec!" a familiar voice screamed. Clyde turns around to see Klara running down the tunnel. She stops near Clyde to catch her breath. She turns towards the Max Mushrooms. "What's this? Three Max Mushrooms gathered in one spot? And I thought I need to find them one by one." She turns back towards Clyde. "I saw them first!"
"No, you didn't, I did!" exclaimed Clyde.
"I've been in the dojo longer, so I should have them. Right?" said Klara.
"No way!" said Clyde.
"You're a pain in the neck!" exclaimed Klara. "Well if you're looking to get in my way, well, I think some vile poisons will take care of that!"
"Are you challenging me to a Pokemon battle?" asked Clyde.
"You bet I am!" replied Klara as she pulls a pokeball out of her pocket. Clyde also pulls out a pokeball. "I'll show you who the best trainer is! Slowpoke, go!" She throws the pokeball and releases her Slowpoke.
"Liepard, go!" said Clyde, throwing Liepard's pokeball and releasing her. "Liepard, Fake Out!" Liepard leaps at Slowpoke and claps her paws together, releasing a shockwave that hits Slowpoke, causing super effective damage and making Slowpoke flinch. "Now use Fury Swipes!" Liepard leaps at Slowpoke and repeatedly scratches it.
"Slowpoke, Acid!" said Klara. Slowpoke releases a stream of violet liquid from its mouth, and it hits Liepard, hurting her and weakening her defense.
"Assurance!" said Clyde. Liepard leaps at Slowpoke and rams it with her head, causing super effective damage and knocking Slowpoke out. "Great job, Liepard." Liepard roars in victory. Growling, Klara returns Slowpoke to its pokeball and takes out another one.
"Come out, Koffing!" said Klara, throwing a pokeball and releasing a round, light purple Pokemon that's floating in mid-air. Clyde takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Koffing, the Poison Gas Pokemon. It adores polluted air. Some claim that Koffing used to be more plentiful in the Galar region than they are now." said the Rotom Phone.
"Liepard, Assurance!" said Clyde. Liepard leaps at Koffing and rams it, knocking it back.
"Clear Smog, Koffing!" said Klara. Koffing opens its mouth and releases a stream of white smog, and it hits Liepard.
"Fury Swipes!" said Clyde. Liepard leaps at Koffing and repeatedly scratches it.
"Tackle!" said Klara. Koffing flies at Liepard and rams her, knocking her out. "You did it! You did it!"
"Koff!" cheered Koffing. Clyde returns Liepard to her pokeball.
"You did great, girl." said Clyde. He puts Liepard's pokeball away and pulls out a Net Ball. "Wooper, go!" He throws Wooper's Net Ball and releases him. "Use Rain Dance!" Wooper begins hopping left to right and rain clouds appear in the cave, and it begins raining.
"You're getting my coat all wet!" exclaimed Klara. "Koffing, teach that Wooper a lesson with Assurance!" Koffing flies at Wooper and rams into him.
"Wooper, Water Gun!" said Clyde. Wooper opens his mouth and releases a spiral of water, and it hits Koffing, doing a lot of damage due to the rain from Rain Dance powering up Wooper's water attacks.
"Tackle!" said Klara. Koffing flies at Wooper and rams into him.
"Slam, Wooper!" said Clyde. Wooper jumps at Koffing and slams his tail onto it, knocking it back. The rain clouds disappear.
"Finally! That rain was ruining my coat! Koffing, Tackle!" said Klara. Koffing flies towards Wooper.
"Mist!" said Clyde. Wooper opens his mouth and releases a thick white cloud out of it, surrounding the entire tunnel in a thick white fog. Koffing stops and looks around for Wooper who's hiding in the fog. The fog made it difficult for Koffing to see Wooper.
"Where'd that runt go? And when I say runt, I'm not referring to Clyde." said Klara.
"Water Gun!" said Clyde. Koffing turns to see a spiral of water come out of the fog and hit it, knocking it out.
"Great job, Wooper." said Clyde.
'Yeah! cheered Wooper. Klara returns Koffing to its pokeball, growling. She puts Koffing's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Whirlipede, come out now!" She throws the pokeball and releases a light purple, curled Pokemon that had an eye on each side of it. Clyde takes out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
Whirlipede, the Curlipede Pokemon and the evolved form of Venipede. Whirlipede protects itself with a sturdy shell and poisonous spikes while it stores up the energy it'll need for evolution." said the Rotom Phone.
"Klara's Venipede must've evolved." said Clyde. "Well, we won't let that stop us. Wooper, Mud Shot!" A glob of mud comes out of the fog, and it hits Whirlipede, knocking it back.
"Whirlipede, Bug Bite!" said Klara. The feelers on Whirlipede glow white and it rolls towards the fog and Whirlipede drives its feelers into Wooper, knocking him out of the fog.
"Use Water Gun!" said Clyde. Wooper releases a spiral of water out of his mouth, and it hits Whirlipede, hurting it.
"Bug Bite again!" said Klara. Whirlipede jumps towards Wooper and drives its feelers into him, knocking him out. "Yay! You win, Whirlipede!" Whirlipede grumbles in response. Clyde returns Wooper to his Net Ball.
"You did great, Wooper." said Clyde. He puts Wooper's Net Ball away and pulls out a pokeball. "Kirlia, let's go!" He throws Kirlia's pokeball and releases him. Klara's eyes sparkle and she smiles.
"Oh, he's so beautiful!" said Klara. Her happy expression is replaced with a sneer. "Even so, I'm still going to poison him."
"Oh yeah?! Kirlia, Psybeam!" said Clyde. Kirlia releases a beam of multicolored energy from his hands, and they hit Whirlipede, causing super effective damage.
"Whirlipede, Poison Tail!" said Klara. Whirlipede's feelers glow purple, and it rolled towards Kirlia.
"Kirlia, Teleport!" said Clyde. Kirlia vanishes, causing Whirlipede to miss. Kirlia reappears. "Now use Confusion!" Kirlia becomes surrounded by purple energy and Whirlipede is lifted up and crashes onto the tunnel ceiling and it falls to the ground. Whirlipede begins rolling around the tunnel. "Looks like Whirliped is confused." Klara growls.
"Whirlipede, Bug Bite!" said Klara. Whirlipede rolls, but crashes into the tunnel wall, knocking itself out. "Noooo!"
"You were awesome, Kirlia." said Clyde. Kirlia bows in response. Klara returns Whirlipede to its pokeball.
"Why can't I win?!" asked Klara. She glares at Clyde. "Fine! You can have those mushrooms. I'll just find better ones!" She turns and runs through the tunnel.
"What is her problem?" asked Clyde. He grabs the Max Mushrooms and puts them in his bag. "Well, I got what I came here for. I better return to the dojo." He returns Kirlia to his pokeball and he walks out the tunnel. At a beach in the Isle of Armor called Challenge Beach, Leni was looking around for Alola Digletts while Lola was digging in the sand, looking for pearls. Leni has found seven Alola Digletts so far. She also took the time to train her Ralts so she can evolve into a Kirlia. As she continued searching, she hears rustling in the tall grass. She looks and sees a green and pink, plantlike Pokemon. She pulls out her Rotom Phone.
"Fomantis, the Sickle Grass Pokemon. During the day, Fomantis basks in sunlight and sleeps peacefully. It wakes and moves around at night." said the Rotom Phone. Leni turns to her Ralts.
"You ready, Ralts?" asked Leni.
'Yes, Leni." replied Ralts.
"Use Hypnosis." said Leni. Ralts' eyes glow blue and releases blue waves out of them. A large glowing green leaf appears in front of Fomantis and it blocks Hypnosis. "What was that?" Fomantis leaps up and swings its two front leaf arms, unleashing leaves and they hit Ralts. "O-M-Gosh, are you okay, Ralts?"
'I'm fine, Leni.' replied Ralts.
"Okay. Use Draining Kiss!" said Leni. Ralts leaps at Fomantis and kisses it, draining its stamina and healing her wounds. Fomantis' leaf arm glows light green and it slashes Ralts, knocking her back. "Ralts, Psybeam!" Ralts unleashes a multicolored beam of energy, and it hits Fomantis. It begins to stumble around, dizzily due to Psybeam causing it to be confused. Fomantis' leaf arms glows again, but in its confusion, it strikes itself, knocking it to the ground. Leni takes out an empty Heal Ball and throws it at Fomantis. It hits Fomantis and it gets sucked in. After the Heal Ball wiggles around, it stops and clicks. Leni picks up Fomantis' Heal Ball. "Yay! Fomantis is totes mine!"
'Congratulations.' said Ralts. She suddenly freezes and begins to glow. Leni lifts up her sunglasses and looks at Ralts with wide eyes.
"O-M-Gosh! You're evolving!" said Leni. When Ralts stopped glowing, she was now a Kirlia. Leni squeals in delight. "Congratulations, Ralts...I mean, Kirlia." Kirlia does a curtsey. Leni takes out her Rotom Phone to learn more about her new Fomantis. "Okay. My Fomantis is a girl, she knows Leafage, Fury Cutter, Growth, Ingrain, and Razor Leaf. She has an ability called Leaf Guard, which according to this, protects Fomantis from status conditions when it's really sunny out. Oh, that must be why Hypnosis didn't work." Back at the dojo, Master Mustard was with several students who had looks of disappointment in their faces. Clyde enters the dojo and walks over to Master Mustard with the Max Mushrooms in his hands.
"Clyde. Looks to me like you nailed the trial." said Master Mustard.
"Yes, master." replied Clyde.
"Congratulations on finding the mushrooms." said Master Mustard.
"It was no problem." said Clyde.
"The other students got lost in the forest." said Master Mustard. "I guess that means everyone else failed the trial." The other student groaned in response. "Let's have a proper meal. Let's have the Max Mushrooms made into a Max Soup."
"Sure, Master Mustard." said Clyde. Master Mustard walks to a kitchen while Clyde followed. Inside the kitchen, Ms. Honey had a pot on the stove.
"I've really outdone myself this time." said Ms. Honey. She turns to Clyde. "All that's left is to add is those lovely Max Mushrooms you brought, Clyde." Klara suddenly ran into the dojo and to the kitchen.
"Wait, Ms. Honey!" exclaimed Klara.
"Klara, what's gotten into you?" asked Ms. Honey. Klara held out her hands which contained Max Mushrooms.
"I found some Max Mushrooms also." said Klara.
"Nice work, Klara." said Master Mustard. "You must have searched hard for those. Looks like you've passed the second trial also." Klara began to cry.
"I did it! I did it!" cried Klara.
"Cheer up, Klara. This is a cause for celebration." said Ms. Honey.
"Ms. Honey. Can you use my Max Mushrooms for the Max Soup?" asked Klara. "I really want to share my hard work with everyone."
"Well if that's what you want, then I'll be happy to oblige." replied Ms. Honey. She then turns to Clyde. "I hope you don't feel that your thunder is being stolen, Clyde, but we're family here and families share, so we'll use Klara's Max Mushrooms. I want to reward Klara for her hard work."
"I don't mind." said Clyde.
"You can hold on to the Max Mushrooms you found." said Ms. Honey.
"Don't worry, Clyde. You still passed the trial." said Master Mustard. "Think of your Max Mushrooms as an extra reward."
"Yes, Master Mustard." said Clyde. Ms. Honey put Klara's Max Mushrooms into the pot and begins cooking. Red clouds begin floating over the pot. Minutes later, everyone was sitting at a dinner table with the pot in the middle of it.
"Soup's on, everyone." said Ms. Honey.
"Well, I'm famished. Everyone, let's eat." said Master Mustard. Everyone at the table began eating the Max Soup. After Clyde was finished, he begins to feel energy surging inside him. "Just know that only certain Pokemon that eat the soup will be able to Gigantimax, Clyde. There are some Pokemon that have distinct potential, and when they drink the soup, their Dynamax forms will change into a Gigantimax form."
"Really?" asked Clyde.
"Yes. And I'm certain once your Bulbasaur evolves to his final form, Venusaur and he eats the Max Soup, he will Gigantimax." said Master Mustard.
"Wow, cool!" replied Clyde. "I'll work hard to train Bulbasaur so he'll evolve someday."
"That's what I like to hear." said Master Mustard.
"I'll keep one of the students here in the kitchen on soup duty." said Ms. Honey, walking to a student who was standing near the stove. "So, you can ask him to serve up a fresh bowl of Max Soup whenever you need."
"Thanks, Ms. Honey." said Clyde.
"You all did your best on the second trial, everyone." said Master Mustard. "I'm proud of all of you and thank you Honey for the soup."
"Thank you, Ms. Honey." everyone says in unison. Clyde has completed the second trial, now he has only one more to complete before he can recieve the dojo's secret armor.
