Onward to Turffield
After the group left Motostoke, they started travelling down Route 3. As they do, Lincoln looks at the map on his Rotom Phone.
"This map says that to get to Turffield, we'll need to go through a mine that's at the end of this road; then after that, we head down Route 4 where we'll eventually reach Turffield." said Lincoln.
"Okay then, let's keep going." said Ronnie Anne. As they look around at the scenery, Luna sees a garbage bag lying in some nearby tall grass.
"Bogus, dudes." said Luna. "Who leaves a garbage bag lying around like that?" Lana looks at it, and licks her lips.
"Mmmm. I can use a snack." said Lana.
"Lana, you're disgusting!" said Lola. Lana runs over to the garbage bag and grabs it.
"Hey! What are you doing?!" yelled the garbage bag, surprising everyone, including Lana.
"Did that garbage bag just say something?" asked Leni. The garbage bag suddenly turns around, showing that it had eyes, a mouth, two small feet, and two streams of garbage coming out of it, looking like arms.
"Guys, that's not a garbage bag." said Lincoln. He then points his Rotom Phone at it.
"Trubbish, the Garbage Bag Pokemon. This Pokémon was born from a bag stuffed with trash. Galarian Weezing relish the fumes belched by Trubbish." said the Rotom Phone.
"Whoa. And I thought Lisa's sentient pile of trash, Trashy, was the only living pile of garbage in the world." said Lincoln. The Trubbish looks at Lana, who was still holding onto it.
"Let go of me, human!" said the Trubbish. It then belches in her face. To the Trubbish's surprise, Lana breathes it in, not repulsed in the slightest.
"Ahhhhh. The sweet smell of garbage." said Lana. She then jumps back and pulls out a pokeball. "I really want this Pokemon!" She then throws her pokeball, releasing her Excadrill.
"Ewww!" said Lola. "Why would you want that Pokemon?!"
"I like it." said Lana. Excadrill and Trubbish face off, ready to battle. "Excadrill, use Drill Run!" Excadrill puts her hands together and spirals towards the Trubbish, hitting it, and causing super effective damage.
"Oh yeah?!" replied the Trubbish. It then sprays a stream of acid from its mouth, and it hits Excadrill. To its surprise, it didn't seem to do anything.
"What was that move?" asked Ronnie Anne.
"I think it was a poison type move." said Lincoln.
"Why didn't it seem to do anything to Excadrill?" asked Clyde.
"Excadrill is part steel type." said Lincoln. "Poison type moves have no effect on them."
"Cool." said Lana. "Okay, Excadrill. Use Metal Claw!" Excadrill then jumps at the Trubbish and slashes it, knocking it onto its back. Lana pulls out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Trubbish, hitting it, and sucking it in. After a few seconds of wiggling, the pokeball clicks, indicating a successful capture. She runs over and picks it up.
"Woohoo! Trubbish is mine!" said Lana. The pokeball then disappears to storage. Lana pulls out her Rotom Phone to look up her new Trubbish's information. "This says my new Trubbish is a boy, he knows Pound, Poison Gas, Recycle, Acid Spray, Amnesia, and Clear Smog. He has the Stench ability which causes an opposing Pokemon he hits with a move to flinch."
"Then that Pokemon suits you perfectly." said Lola. "Your odor makes anyone who smells it flinch."
"You know it!" said Lana as she lifts her arms up, releasing an odor that makes everyone want to throw up.
"Can we get going now?" asked Lola.
"Hold on a second. I want to swap my Croagunk for my new Trubbish." said Lana as she uses her Rotom Phone to make the exchange. She then releases Trubbish from his pokeball.
"What's going on?" asked the Trubbish. Lana takes out a couple of Oran Berries and offers them to Trubbish.
"Sorry about roughing you up like that, Trubbish." said Lana.
"Why would you want to capture me?" asked Trubbish. "Most other trainers just avoid me because of my odor."
"Not me. I like it." said Lana.
"Really?" asked Trubbish. Lana smiles in response. Trubbish waddles over to Lana and they hug each other. Just then, a girl walks over to them.
"Pardon me but are you all Gym Challengers?" asked the girl. The group turns to look at her.
"Yeah?" replied Lincoln.
"I recognize some of you from the Gym Challenge Opening Ceremony, and I was wondering in any of you would like to battle." said the girl. Seeing an opportunity to get some battle experience, Lola quickly runs forward.
"I'll battle you." said Lola. Everyone else stands back to give them all some space. Lola and the girl each pull out a pokeball from their bags. The girl throws hers, releasing a Vulpix; and Lola throws hers, releasing her Brionne.
"You can do it, Lola." said Lana.
"Okay, Brionne. Use Aqua Jet!" said Lola. Brionne's body became coated in water and she flies at the opposing Vulpix with fast speed and slams into it, doing super effective damage and more, thanks to her Mystic Water, and knocking it out. The girl was stunned by how fast the battle ended.
"I won!" said Lola.
"That was quick." said the girl.
"Way to go, Lola!" said Lana. The girl then returns her Vulpix to its pokeball, then walks over to Lola and gives her pokedollars.
"Why are you giving Lola money?" asked Lincoln.
"You mean you don't know?" asked the girl. "When two trainers battle, the losing trainer has to give the winning trainer half his or her money."
"I didn't know that." said Lincoln. "Hop didn't give me money after our battles."
"Klara didn't give me money after our battles, either." said Clyde.
"Or me." said Leni with a pout. "If I see that diva again, I'll make her pay, and I mean in cash."
"That goes double for me." said Clyde. After that, everyone then continues heading down the road. As they all walked, Lana spends some time training her new Trubbish. It soon learned Toxic Spikes, and Sludge. They soon see Sonia at the road's halfway point who turns to look at them.
"Hello, everybody." said Sonia.
"Hey, Sonia." said Lincoln as he and the others run to greet her.
"How have you all been?" asked Sonia.
"We've been awesome." said Lincoln. Sonia then notices Ronnie Anne.
"Who is this?" asked Sonia.
"This is Ronnie Anne." said Lincoln. "She's another of my friends back home who wanted to join my adventure."
"Are you Lincoln's girlfriend?" asked Sonia.
"No!" said Ronnie Anne and Lincoln at the same time while blushing. Sonia giggles at their actions.
"Sure, you're not." said Sonia. "Anyway, I saw you all during the Gym Challenge Opening Ceremony, and you looked really ace."
"Thanks, Sonia." said Lincoln.
"So, where's Hop at?" asked Sonia.
"He went ahead on his own." answered Lincoln.
"He really can't stay still, can he?" replied Sonia.
"Yeah, he really wants to catch up to his brother." said Lincoln.
"Anyway, let me show you all something interesting." said Sonia. She looks towards a nearby factory.
"What's that?" asked Luna.
"That factory is owned by Chairman Rose." said Sonia. "Up ahead down this road is a mine that extracts ore which is then processed into energy in that building. So basically, Chairman Rose is responsible for providing the entire Galar Region with all its energy."
"Whoa. That sounds like a lot of responsibility." said Clyde.
"It is." replied Sonia. "Can't say I get him, but Chairman Rose seems like a brilliant guy."
"So what are you going to do now?" asked Lincoln.
"I'm going on to Turffield. There's something there I want to check out." said Sonia.
"Have a safe trip." said Leni.
"Thanks, Leni." said Sonia. She then walks away, leaving the group to themselves. Ronnie Anne looks over at the factory.
"I can't believe that one person is responsible for supplying an entire region with all its power." said Ronnie Anne.
"Sounds like a lot of work." said Luna.
"I'm sure that Mr. Rose has a lot of people helping him." said Lincoln. With that, they continued going down Route 3, stopping in a nearby clearing for lunch. As the group ate, a girl walks over to them.
"Excuse me but are any of you Pokemon trainers?" asked the girl.
"Yes, we all are." replied Lincoln.
"Would any of you like to have a Pokemon battle with me?" asked the girl.
"I'll battle you." said Lucy from behind the girl, scaring her. A minute later, Lucy and the girl were standing several feet from each other, each of them holding a pokeball.
"Go, Pancham!" said the girl, throwing a pokeball and releasing a panda bear-like Pokemon.
"What is that?" asked Lucy. She takes out her Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.
"Pancham, the Playful Pokemon. Wanting to make sure it's taken seriously, Pancham's always giving others a glare. But if it's not focusing, it ends up smiling." said the Rotom Phone.
"Duskull, go." said Lucy, throwing Duskull's pokeball and releasing him.
"Pancham, Circle Throw!" said the girl. Pancham leaps at Duskull and tries to grab him, but its hands went right through him.
"Fighting type moves don't work on ghost Pokemon." said Lucy, surprising the girl. "Duskull, Night Shade." Duskull unleashes a beam of black-purple beam of energy from his eye and it hits Pancham, knocking it out.
"What?! It's over already?" asked the girl. "Your Duskull's strong."
"Yes, he is." said Lucy. The girl returns Pancham to its pokeball. She then gives Lucy pokedollars and walks away.
"Good work, Lucy." said Lincoln.
"It's all thanks to all that training in the Isle of Armor." said Lucy. After everyone finished eating and cleaned their dishes, they all continue to head down Route 3 until they reached an entrance to a tunnel, leading into a mountain.
"I think this is the mine we need to go through to get to Turffield." said Lincoln.
"Well, what are we waiting for?" asked Lana. "Let's do this." Everyone else cheers in response.
"Okay, then. Let's go." said Lincoln. With that, they all enter the mine.
