Chapter 70: Electric Shock Rematch Part 1

A few days later, Goh, Ash, and Lillie headed to the Vermillion City Gym for Ash's next World Coronation Series battle.

"Alright, ready for our next battle, buddy? It's been a long time since we've fought Lt. Surge, huh?"

"Pika Pika!"

"It's too bad Chloe couldn't come."

"She wanted to, but she has a major project for school that she needs to work on. She promised to watch it from home, though, and wishes you the best of luck."

"Ash, Lillie, great to see you again!"

As they approached the gym, they found Visquez waiting for them, both her and her Raichu waving excitedly when they saw them coming.

"Visquez, how's it been?"

"Great! And who's your friend here?"

"My name's Goh. Ash told me all about your match, it's great to meet you!"

"Likewise."

Goh cringed in pain, his hand throbbing from the humongous handshake Visquez had given him. The temporary gym leader chuckled in embarrasment.

"Sorry, sometimes I don't know my own strength."

"So Visquez, how's your time in the tournament gone?"

"Alright, but I've only managed to get into the Great Class. My Gym Leader duties haven't given me much free time to leave the gym, but with Lt. Surge back. I hope to be able to battle more."

"Well, aren't you a sight for sore eyes!"

As if on cue, the true Gym Leader of Vermillion City stepped into the room, removing his sunglasses to look Ash over.

"Looks like the baby's all grown up. I've been waiting a long time for this rematch. But don't go thinking you'll win, because I'm about to end your winning streak right here!"

Ash smiled, and accepted the gym leader's handshake.

"We'll see about that!"

A few minutes later, Ash was in the warm up tunnel getting ready. Lillie was there, giving him a pep talk.

"You can do it Ash, I believe in you!"

"Thanks Lillie, but before you join Goh in the stands I need you to do me a favor."

"Sure Ash, what is it?"

Ash took out a Pokeball and opened it, revealing his newly caught Kubfu.

"I want you to pay close attention to my match today, buddy. Once we've trained you a bit more, you'll get to compete in these matches too."

Kubfu smiled, and flashed Ash a thumbs up with one final "Fu!" Lillie picked him up, gave Ash a final kiss for good luck, then made her way to the stands.

Goh had just found his seat when Lillie joined him, carrying Kubfu.

"Why do you have Ash's Kubfu?"

"He wanted Kubfu to watch the battle and learn from it, so he asked me to hold onto him."

"Kubfu!"

"Hey, that's a good idea! I should let mine out."

He did so, the Kubfu happily taking her place in his lap.

"Excuse me, is this seat taken?"

Visquez came up to them, hoping for a good view.

"Yeah, no problem!"

"Great, thanks."

"So Visquez, who do you think is going to win?"

Visquez smirked confidently.

"Ash is strong, there's no doubt in my mind about that. But Lt. Surge has trained for years for this rematch, and based on what I've seen Ash won't win. But it's bound to be a close match."

Before the conversation could continue, the lights dimmed and the trainers entered the arena while the announcer began the introductions.

"Welcome folks, to this World Coronation Series Ultra Class Battle! Let's meet our competitors! He's only lost one battle in his journey through his first season, currently ranked 99th in the world, Pallet Town's Rising Star Ash Ketchum!"

The crowd gave Ash a big cheer as he waved to them.

"But is his winning streak about to come to an end? He's the gym leader of Vermillion City, who's finally returned after a year of training! Currently ranked 90th in the world, the Lightning Lieutenant Lt..Surge!"

The crowd burst into louder cheers as their local gym leader took the stage, flexing his muscles before taking the stage. Once the two had shook hands, the Rotom Drone flew in to explain the rules.

"This will be a 3-on-3 battle with no time limit! Each trainer may switch as often as they like, and the battle will conclude once I have determined all Pokemon on either side are unable to battle! In addition, each trainer is allowed only one of the following per battle: Mega Evolution, a Z-Move, or Dynamax! Both of you will send out your Pokemon at the same time! 3…2…1…GO!"

"Sirfetch'd, I choose you!"

"Electrode, go!"

"Electrode, use Gyro Rollout!"

"Brutal Swing, Sirfetch'd!"

The electric type began barreling towards Sirfetch'd, gaining speed as he rolled along. Sirfetch'd swung his blade hard, batting his opponent back to the other side of the field. But Electrode didn't give up, and continued on his original path, SIrfetch'd just barely managing to dodge him this time before he turned around to come at him again, this time managing to land a direct hit.

"Don't give up, Sirfetch'd! Use Leaf Blade!"

"Don't let up! Keep using Rollout!"

This time when Electrode got close, Sirfetch'd rammed his sword right into him, throwing him away.

"Electro Ball, Electrode!"

"Sirfetch'd, use Fury Cutter!"

The Ball Pokemon launched an orb of electricity, striking Sirfetch'd directly. But even that didn't stop the fighting type, and he caught up to this opponent and began striking Electrode over all his sword.

"Don't let him beat you that easily! Hit back with Gyro Ball!"

"Use your leek to slow him down!"

Electrode began spinning rapidly before launching himself, pushing Sirfetch'd backwards, the Fighting type using his sword to push back against him. Eventually, the two came to a stop in the middle of the arena.

"Self Destruct, Electrode!"

Still gyrating, Electrode began to glow bright white.

"Don't let him do it, Sirfetch'd! Use Brick Break!"

Acting quickly, Sirfetch'd gave the ball Pokemon a hard slap with his leek sword, sending the Electrode flying into air where he exploded, the backblast knocking SIrfetch'd off his feet. But when the dust settled, Electrode had landed unconscious on the ground.

"Electrode is unable to battle, Sirfetch'd wins!"

"Great job, Sirfetch'd!"

"Fetch'd!"

"Return, Electrode. You did well, soldier, get some rest."

As Lt. Surge pulled out his next Pokeball, he couldn't help but grin.

"Alright kid, you asked for it! Go, Magnezone!"

"Sirfetch'd vs Magnezone, begin!"

"Rock Smash, Sirfetch'd!"

"Thunder Wave, Magnezone!"

Sirfetch'd managed to get only halfway across the stadium when he was hit by the electric waves, stopping him in his tracks as the pain surged through his body.

"Shake it off, Sirfetch'd!"

"Flash Cannon!"

Before Sirfetch'd could recover, a huge blast of energy rammed into him, sending him

Sprawling across the battlefield before landing hard at Ash's feet.

"Sirfetch'd! Can you still fight?"

Wearily, Sirfetch'd pushed himself to his feet, still Paralyzed.

"I can't let you put yourself through this. Return!"

But Sirfetch'd refused to back down, signaling to Ash that he still wanted to keep going..

"Are you sure?"

"Fetch'd!"

"Alright, go in for a Rock Smash!"

"Thunderbolt, Magnezone!"

Despite the pain, Sirfetch'd charged forward, using his sword to push through the Thunderbolt and strike Magnezone as fast and as hard as he could.

"Keep it up, Sirfetch'd!"

"Zap Cannon!"

Just as Sirfetch'd was moving in to attack once more, the Magnet Area Pokemon fired a point blank blast of energy, sending Sirfetch'd hurtling towards the ground. When the dust had settled, Sirfetch'd was down for the count.

"Sirfetch'd is unable to battle! Magnezone wins!"

Ash sighed, and returned Sirfetch'd to its Pokeball.

"Great job, Sirfetch'd, get some rest. Dragonite,I choose you!"

"Dragonite vs Magnezone, begin!"

"Thunderbolt, Magnezone!"

"Repel it with Hurricane!"

Magnezone launched a bolt of electricity, but Dragonite was quick to break it apart with large gusts of wind from her wings.
"Zap Cannon, Magnezone!"

"Dodge it with Dragon Dance, followed up with Extreme Speed!"

Magnezone fired a powerful electric blast, which Dragonite narrowly managed to dodge with a graceful twirl before hurtling towards the steel type rapidly.

"Fire Punch, Dragonite!"

"Gyro Ball!"

Magnezone began spinning like a top, meeting Dragonite's Fire punch in the middle, creating a small explosion.

"Keep it up, Magnezone!"

"Dragon Tail!"

After getting in a few more Fire Punches while being grinded against by Magnezone, Dragonite flipped, striking it with her tail hard enough to send it crashing down to the ground unconscious.

"Magnezone is unable to battle, Dragonite wins!"

"Yes, way to go Dragonite!"

"Nite!"

Despite being at a disadvantage, Lt. Surge couldn't help but smirk. His blood was pumping, ready and raring for more as he took out his last Pokemon.

"Get ready kid, because the kiddie gloves are off!"
