AN Sorry this is a bit late (and going off the story (and coming round to its third year since it was started)) either way hope everyone is still liking it :)
22/3/23
Valentine's Day day came and went with the flowers, ribbons, and cards like last year, once again some older (mainly Slytherin's) students teased others about the cards and/or gifts their friends received, but other than that it was alright.
Quickly February faded into March and Bunny's 'lessons' were now lessons on making magic different coloured dyes for those doing detention with him (when people had detention) to use on the eggs he would collect and send to the store house in his Warren to hide for Easter in less than a month.
At breakfast on the first Monday of March, Jack and Neville were happy to see Archie and Hedwig coming towards them, both with letters for them.
Quickly the boys took the letters from the birds and ripped them open.
"What does yours say?" Jack asked Neville as he was reading the one from Amelia Bones.
"Well, first, Gran wants to know where we got all this information," Neville said as he read the letter. "But then, she's saying that she always had a feeling that Padfoot was innocent even back then, but she was too busy dealing with me and my parents to do anything about it."
He went quiet again as he finished reading the letter.
"She's seen the memories... and has harvested some of her own to act as further proof when the time comes to show everyone his innocent – mainly babysitting, and caring for Harry and me when our parents were off fighting Deatheaters and written down times for them." Neville kept reading.
"And she wants to see you, Jack, to ask you a few questions about how you came by all this." he finished. "What does your one say?"
"Mainly that they went through all post-war Deatheater trials and couldn't find his name, so they looked in all possible other sections and found that we are right and that she's surprised that he didn't get one, as since he is the only living descendent of a very old, very rich, very pure-blooded family." Jack said as he looked over his letter again.
"'If you can get him to willingly come forward, I shall personally see to it that he gets one before his sentencing is given out.'" Jack read the next part out.
"What are the chances he'll come forward to a group of wizards who have been hunting him down for 8 months in the hopes of killing him?" Neville asked as he got back to his pancakes.
"Not very high," Jack admitted as he had some more sausages "But if we can catch that rat first, we might be able to convince him to do so."
"But we're not sure where he is," Neville whispered as a few students passed them at this point.
"No, but I can tell he's still here," Jack said looking around the room and in the corners best he could "I feel it... in my belly."
At this Baby Tooth groaned and rolled her eyes, it was bad enough when North did it but now Jack?
This got a confused look from Neville, but he shrugged and got back to his food "Shall we tell Harry? I mean I have a feeling you're gonna tell Elisa right."
"I am, but don't tell Harry yet, he'll think we're sick or insane and try to stop us or go hunting for Padfoot just to kill him himself before he gets his possible trial." Jack said stashing both the letters into his bag.
With breakfast shorted Neville went off to Divination and Jack spent his free hour in the library working on his notes and speech for Buckbeak's trial which was just over a month away.
After a day of lessons, Jack had dinner at the Ravenclaw table to tell Elisa about the letters.
"And you're sure that rat is still here?" Elisa asked as she gave herself some more mash potatoes.
"Well, not 100% sure, but definitely over 50." Jack said shrugging to himself as Baby Tooth rolled her eyes. "Ok, there's only one thing that will tell us for sure if he's still here, but 1. It's been confiscated, and 2. If he is here only three people will be able to see him, one of whom we want to keep this from until it's all over."
"Well just get Peeves to steal it back and tie up and torture the people in question then." Elisa suggested.
"Or..." Luna's voice said calmly "We can try a summoning charm to see if that gets him to come to us."
"I don't think summoning charms work on living things," Elisa said after a minute of thinking.
"Let's forget about him for now, and try to think of a way to get this information to Padfoot, and try to get him to come forth on his own." Jack said looking up at the teachers table focusing on Lupin.
At this Baby Tooth squeaked that she would pass on the information.
With that and a note or two written out, Jack gave them to the fairy and she left the Great Hall to deliver them to Sirius.
"With that sorted," Jack said smiling back to Elisa "How are your Fairy linguist lessons going?"
"Well seeing as I'm learning from a book, and I have no fairy's around to help me," Elisa said calmly "I'm not sure."
"'Your title whatis?' " Jack asked smiling as he cut up some of his steak to eat.
Blinking and thinking for a bit Elisa relied, slowly, "'Me title Elisa. Que yours?' "
"See you've learnt something already," Jack said placing the fork into his mouth.
"Ok, sure I do know that, but what if I'm meeting someone important, or, or they start off a long winded conversation?" Elisa asked trying to make him understand.
"All the important fairy's have learnt English, in case by the off chance they meet a human." Jack said open minded "But since there is a rule, which was set around 900 years ago, that says no non-important fairy should reveal themselves to a human unless it's their season and/or they trust the human they are seeing, I sincerely doubt you have to worry about that for now."
Elisa just looked confused at this, not having heard of this rule in any History of Magic lessons before – then again they were just a broken record of Goblin Rebellions.
"He's saying you can have time to learn a bit more Fairyish," Luna said as she put her plate to the side and pulled out that month's Quibbler magazine to read and past the time for a bit. "As the Muggles say: Rome wasn't built in a day."
Just then Baby came back handing over a note to Jack who read it.
"Pads says to meet him in the meeting room later tonight, and to bring some food." he said putting the letter away.
"Right," Elisa said before returning to her plate.
"I'll go and tell Neville, come on Baby," Jack said getting up and heading for the Gryffindor table.
Later, after getting some food from the kitchen and heading to the Room of Requirement, Jack, Baby, Neville, and Elisa were there talking to Sirius about the letters the boys got this morning, while the man was tucking into some chicken.
"Hmph, I always knew I was Augusta's favourite." Sirius said smiling to himself after Neville finished his part of the conversation. "And I mean that out of my friends and me and my brother."
"You have a brother?" Jack asked hearing this for the first time. "Well can't he come and support you in this or something?"
"Had a brother," Sirius corrected "Past tense. I lost him the moment I ran away from home, and my mother disowned me. And again when he took up the Darkmark on his arm and became a Deatheater, and then finally a few years, after I was locked up I heard he was dead, but I don't know – or really care – how he died."
"You could have just said no." Jack said frowning a little. "And what do you mean you don't care how he died?"
"He was a Deatheater." Sirius replied looking up from the chicken in his hands "He was a follower of Voldemort! The very man who was trying to kill my best friend, his family, and my godson!
"He believed in all that hogwash our parents taught us that to be powerful we needed to stay pure. And to do that we needed to burn out and get rid of all things unpure. I rebelled because I didn't believe this, and because of that I was punished by my mother, in our basement by being treated like medieval criminal. While he, stuck to the rules they gave and was treated like a prince and loved and showered with so much pride when he took that dumb skull upon his arm."
"You are his brother!" Jack yelled at the man. "You are meant to care and look out for him. Ok so maybe it couldn't be helped with your parents pushing him down that path, but you should care that his is dead."
"Jack, maybe you should step out for a bit..." Elisa's voice said making the boy look to her and seeing her 'please calm down' face, and how Neville was shivering a little.
Nodding Jack agreed, but had one last thing to say.
"Older brothers are supposed to protect their younger siblings, be they brothers or sisters, and make sure no harm is to come to them." he said pointing to Sirius. "Whether they stay protected, is up to them."
With that, Jack left, taking the cold (and Baby Tooth) with him.
