It felt like an eternity has gone by once we landed in Italy. We were flying into Florence and would be driving to Volterra.
You would think that having read New Moon, I wouldn't be worried. I knew the outcome of what would happen. But no, I wasn't calm. I was downright terrified. The plot has changed some so I had no idea if we would make it out alive or not.
I barely said a word to anyone on the plane. Alice told Bella all about the Volturi. I didn't really say anything to Bella. Alice was the one to tell Bella about Alex. She really didn't say much about him. Just that he used to be apart of the Volturi's guard. I didn't know what Bella was thinking about that information.
My mind kept going back to Alex. He was risking so much to be going back to Italy. Alex wasn't happy about going back, but I was glad to have him with me. I held onto his hand while we were in the plane. We had to be careful because I was afraid that Aro might try to keep Alex there with them.
The story has changed slightly with my presence here. I wanted to hopefully change the story where we don't get to see the Volturi. I just wanted to leave Italy alive.
Alex grabbed my hand once we landed and we all ran outside of the airport. Alice quickly got a yellow porsche to drive us to Volterra.
"A porsche Alice?" We all quickly get into the car. Alice races out of the airport and heads to Volterra. She's not wasting any time. I was grateful for that.
Alice quickly glances at me. "I didn't think you would be opposed to grand theft auto. I just got lucky to find a fast car." I send her a small smile and look out the window. I don't like it when people steal but today was the one exception. We had to save Edward's life.
Alex held my hand while we were in the car. He kept tracing patterns on the hand to calm me down. It worked for the most part.
I tuned everything out until I head Alice say that Volterra was right ahead of us.
I looked ahead of me and saw the city appearing before my eyes. Volterra would look magnificent and beautiful full of rich culture to a regular person. To me though, it looked ominous and deadly. I knew what really lurked in the shadow.
My grasp on Alex's hand tightened. I looked at him to see that he was staring at everything around him. He was remembering about his time with the Volturi.
I tuned everything out while I looked out of the window staring at my surroundings. Alice was weaving through the town to try to get us as close to the square as possible. It was ironic that today was St. Marcus day. Unknown to everyone, he was actually a vampire living in the town. Everyone believed he was this great man who drove vampires out of the town. When in fact he was a vampire himself. There was red all around us. Everything blended in together. Making everything look like blood.
I'm brought out of my thoughts when Alice slammed on the breaks. My head flies up to look at her. Alice quickly looks at me and Bella.
"The both of you need to get to Edward. If me and Alex go he will assume that we are lying. He'll just rush into it." I open my car door and hopped out. I turn to look at Alex.
"Sophie, you'll be ok. Everything is going to work out. He'll be under the clock tower at the other side of the courtyard. Go!" I nodded my head and slammed the car door shut.
"Come on!" I grab Bella's hand and we both start running.
We are soon engulfed into the crowd. We were surrounded by people who were wearing nothing but red. The crowd was thick and never ending. We would turn a corner and more people were standing before us. Me and Bella had to start shoving people out of the way to get through. I had to ignore the shouts and protests of the people we were shoving away. We both just kept on running and looking around, trying to find the clock tower.
Being here was my worst nightmare. Me and Bella kept running through the crowd. Running through this crowd was exhausting. As soon as we would see an opening, the path would be blocked. We were constantly turning in different directions to get through everyone. I started to panic, worrying that we wouldn't make it there in time.
Finally, after shoving through people, the clock tower came into view. "Bella look! Right there!" Bella looks at the clock tower and we run straight for it. I looked up and saw that it was almost 12. We only had a couple of minutes before Edward walked into the light.
We were both exhausted from running but we kept going. I needed to save Edward and protect my family. I would save everyone, even if that meant I would die in the process.
Edward finally came into view. He was starting to take off his shirt so he could step into the sunlight. It was at the moment that I tripped and slammed on the pavement. Of course this would happen to me. Bella turned to help me up but I shook her hand away.
"Bella go! You need to stop him! I'm right behind you." Bella nodded her head and ran in the direction of Edward.
I got up on my feet and made my way back towards the clock tower. I ignored everyone who were shouting at me. I just kept shoving people out of the way. I made it to the fountain and saw that Edward and Bella were nowhere in sight.
Well that's good. I needed to get inside so Edward would see that I'm alive also. I was afraid that if I didn't, Edward would assume that Bella wasn't real and he would rush into the sunlight. I ran through the fountain before making it to the doors of the clock tower.
The doors were closed and they looked heavy. I started to shove my body against the door to hopefully get inside. Miraculously I was able to shove my way through the doors which caused me to stagger inside. Once I did, Bella and Edward broke apart from the kiss they were sharing. Well this was awkward.
"Oh. Sorry. I didn't mean to intrude. I can just give you two time together and come back later." I look to see Edward looking at me. He paused before coming towards me. Before I could think, I was swept up into his arms.
"Oh my God. Thank goodness that you are ok. You have no idea how terrible I felt in the last 24 hours." I hug him back. It was at that moment I wanted time to stop. I had my brother back. "Sophie, I'm so sorry. for everything." I back away and look at him with a smile.
"It's ok. I'm just glad that you are alive. Oh and don't scare me like that ever again!" Edward cracked a smile and gave me another hug.
It was at that moment that realization hit me. Everything faded away and made me remember what dangerous position we were really in. A voice brought me out of my thoughts. Which caused me to step away from Edward. I looked into the shadows in front of me. Looking into blood red eyes.
"Well, well, well. It looks like little Sophie is all grown up." Oh crap. This wasn't good.
What do you think? Next chapter Sophie will be seeing the Volturi. What do you think will happen? Thank you so much for reading this story. Reading all of your reviews has really made me happy. I know that there are some grammatical errors in this story but I plan on fixing it sometime later on. Thank you so much again! Until next time.
