My whole body froze at that moment. I looked ahead of me to see two shadows approaching us.
It was Demetri and Felix. Both of their red eyes were focused on the scene in front of them, but they were mainly looking at me.
"Sophie. What has it been, eight years? You are so grown up. My how time flies by." Demetri was having fun with this. They both were.
Edward stepped in front of me and Bella. I took Bella's hand in my grasp. "Greetings gentlemen. It looks like I won't be needing your services today."
Demetri and Felix look at Edward menacingly. "Yes, well let's take this conversation to a more appropriate venue shall we. Aro wants to talk with you," replies Demetri.
Edward nodded his head. "Ok. Bella go with Sophie and enjoy the festival." I knew that wasn't going to happen.
"The girls come with us." Felix stares Edward down. I glance to see Demetri staring straight at me. I felt that his blood red eyes were staring into my soul which caused a shiver to go down my spine. I was a meal to him. I was currently scared out of my mind.
"No. You can go to hell." Edward pushes me and Bella further behind him. Demetri and Felix both take a step forward.
That's when the doors to the clock tower burst open. Alice comes in with Alex right behind her.
"Easy guys. There's a festival outside. We wouldn't want to make a scene. Not to mention that there are ladies present."
"No, we wouldn't," agrees Felix. Felix's eyes narrow at Alex. "Alex. What a surprise."
Alex gives him a smirk. "Hey guys. Felix, how's the hand doing?" Felix lets out a growl while Demetri holds his hand out in front of Felix.
I let go of Bella's hand once Alex came over to me. He takes my hand in his and stands in front of me. This did not go unnoticed by Demetri and Felix. Demetri actually raised an eyebrow.
"Enough." Another voice comes towards us. Demetri and Felix immediately put smirks on their faces. They knew that they had us now. Jane emerged from the shadows. She looked at each of us. "Aro was wondering what was taking so long." She stared at me a second longer than everyone else before turning around.
Alex grips my hand as we follow her. Of course Demetri and Felix had to walk behind me and Alex. I could feel their stare on my back.
We all walk in silence for a little bit. I was so uncomfortable. I was about to officially meet everyone in the Volturi.
We stop in front of an elevator and Jane steps aside. "After you," she tells us. We all enter the elevator and Jane steps in after us. Jane pushes a button and we start to descend further below. We were going deeper into the lion's den.
I suddenly feel someone sniffing my hair and turn to see it's Demetri. "Do you mind? Some people like to have their own personal space." Alex squeezes my hand in warning. I needed to be careful about what I said to him. To everyone in general.
Demetri just chuckled while Felix smirked. "Sorry, it's not my fault that you smell so appealing."
Alex growled and turned towards Demetri and gave him a glare. Demetri just smiled at Alex.
"Easy Alex. We wouldn't want anything unfortunate to happen."
"Enough. We have reached our floor." We are interrupted by Jane. We all exit the elevator and move towards the room where Aro, Caius, and Marcus are waiting for us.
A woman stands up at the receptionist desk. She says hello to us in Italian. "Is she human?" I look over at Bella as she clings on to Edward.
"Yes," Edward answers her.
"She wants to be..." Bella trails off. She knows that Gianna wants to be a vampire. I then feel someone leaning over my shoulder.
"And so she will be," Demetri whispers in my ear. Alex growls and puts me right in front of him. Taking me away from Demetri and Felix. Fine by me. Felix just chuckles at his actions.
Jane soon opens two huge doors and leads us to a large room.
"Well sister. They send you to get one and you've brought three...and two-halves. Such a clever girl." Alec, Jane's twin brother.
Jane smiles at Alec as she walks towards Aro. He looks exactly the same from the last time that I saw him. He looks so happy to see us.
"Bella and Sophie are alive after all! Oh I am so happy to see the both of you alive. I do love a happy ending." Aro glides down to Edward who already has his hand raised up. He takes it and smiles as he reads Edward's mind.
Edward turns and looks at Bella. "Bella, you remember that I've told you that some of us are gifted. Aro can read your mind by a single touch. Every memory that you've ever had, he can see it."
"But to hear someone from a distance. That would be so convenient." Aro smiles and steps away from Edward. He turns to face us.
It was at that moment that I got my first glimpse of Caius and Marcus. Both of them were sitting on their thrones. You could easily tell the both of them apart. Marcus looked bored while he looked at us with disinterest. Caius looked like he wanted to kill someone. He was scowling at us and seemed angry.
I couldn't help but to feel like I was the most interesting thing in the room. Everyone in the Volturi where looking at us, but I felt like I was the center of attention. The human sibling of the Cullen's was here in Italy at last. No doubt everyone knew about me and here I was on full display for them to look at.
"It comes to my understanding that Edward cannot read your mind Bella. It seems that you are just like Sophie here," says Aro. I step back a little. Being here was making me uneasy. I felt that something bad was going to happen. I step more towards Alex. He puts his arm around my waist to comfort me.
"I wonder. I would love to see if Bella is an exception to my gift as well. May I have the honor?" Aro steps forward and holds his hand out for Bella. Me and her both know that it's not a request.
Bella takes a step forward and places her hand in Aro's outstretched hand. She looks to me before looking back at Aro. I can tell that she's scared.
Aro then took a step away from Bella. Releasing her hand and looked at us. "I see nothing, how extraordinary." He then turns to me and smiled. "Sophie. It's been what eight years? You were only ten years old when we met." I tried to smile at him.
"Yes, hello Aro." Aro walked towards me. Alex went rigged beside me. He stepped a little bit in front of me. Aro stopped and looked at Alex.
"Alex, it's been a long time. It's been fifty years since you left us. Such a shame."
"It's actually been very relaxing. I've been enjoying my retirement," Alex replies through his teeth. Aro narrows his eyes but keeps a smile on his face.
"Well, how good of you to see us again." Aro turns his head back to me. "Sophie. As I remember last time, I couldn't read your thoughts. Do you mind if I try to read them again?" Alex growled lowly at Aro, telling him to back away. I place my hand on his back. Alex instantly relaxes.
"Alex, it's ok." I go around him and walk closer to Aro. I stop right in front of him and give him my hand. Aro takes it and looks at my hand in concentration. He lifts his head and looks into my eyes.
"Extraordinary. Like the last time, I see nothing. I am so surprised at this revelation." I walk back to Alex who looks relaxed.
I turn to glance at Alice and she is watching the whole situation. She didn't want to be here. None of us wanted to be here.
Aro walks back towards Caius and Marcus. "I wonder." He pauses and turns towards Jane. No. I know what's about to happen. "I wonder if they are immune to our other gifts. Jane dear?" I look at Jane to see that she is smiling.
"Yes master?" She looked like a kid on Christmas morning.
"No!" I turn to see Edward running towards Jane. That's not a good idea Edward.
"Pain." Edward stops and collapses on the floor in pain. I can't move. I just stand in shock. Alex keeps me steady as I watch my brother withering in pain.
"Stop! Please!" Bella looks terrified. She now knows the extent to what these people are and what they can do.
"Jane," interjects Aro. Jane stops staring at Edward and looks at Aro.
"Master." Edward instantly stops withering in pain. Alice goes and helps him stand up. He looks on helplessly as Jane tries to use her power on Bella. It's not going to work though.
Jane stares at Bella. Waiting for her to start screaming in pain. Her smile turns to frustration when nothing happens. Jane is broken out of her trance by Aro's laughter.
"She confounds us all. Why don't we try it on Sophie next." My whole body froze at that. I didn't expect him to suggest such a thing. Jane's frown started to turn into a smile.
"No! You will not..." I place my hand on Alex's shoulder. He stopped talking and looked at me. Everyone in the room looked to be on edge. Alex was someone who they wanted back. If he used his power, it would be almost impossible for the five of us to go back to Forks together.
"Alex, not here." He looks at me but doesn't move. I walk a couple of steps away from him.
"Jane," instructs Aro.
Jane looks at me and starts to smile. With Edward and Aro not being able to read my mind, I assumed that nothing would happen to me. Alex's power didn't even work on me. I didn't know what exactly I was. Maybe I was a shield with heightened powers.
My thoughts of me being unharmed goes out the window when I feel the pain. The pain was excruciating, which meant one thing. Jane's power worked on me.
