I never gave it much thought on how I would live my life. If I were to die early or if I would have a long life. My thoughts of death vanished when a ray of light woke me up.
Opening my eyes slowly, the events that happened last night floods into my mind. I sigh in happiness and snuggle closer into the pillow. I reach out next to me, and only touch the sheets on the mattress. Alex isn't in the bed with me. The smell of bacon then fills the air. I guess Alex is making me breakfast.
The sound of my stomach growling gives me the signal that it was time to get up. I stretch my limbs and sit up. It's only then that I realize I don't have any clothing on. I get up and pick up Alex's shirt that has been discarded on the floor. I quickly put it on. The smell of bacon leads me into the kitchen.
Just the sight of Alex brings a smile onto my face. The muscles in his back show off more since he doesn't have a shirt on. I'd be lying if I said it didn't turn me on. As if sensing my presence, Alex turns around to greet me. I quickly see the longing in his eyes at the sight of me in his shirt.
"You might want to change, unless you want round two this morning," he says.
I smile. "Noted. Is that bacon?"
"Yes it is. I thought you would be hungry from our exercise last night." Blood rushes to my face. I quickly walk towards the island in the middle of the room and sit down on the stool just as Alex gives me a plate full of bacon and eggs. I'm so attuned into eating that I fail to notice the bruises on my shoulder and arms. The atmosphere soon gets quiet. Looking up, Alex wears a look of conflict. "I'm sorry. I guess I underestimated my strength."
I look down at the purple bruises on my arm. They show the imprints of his fingers. "Don't be. We knew it might be tricky. I am breakable."
Alex chuckles. "I keep forgetting about that. My fragile little China doll," he teases. I throw a piece of bacon at him. He laughs. "I'll just make sure to watch myself for next time." I perk up at that.
"Next time?"
"Yes next time. You didn't think some bruises would stop me from having you, did you?" I smile in relief.
"Love you."
"I love you too." The happy atmosphere is then interrupted by the ringing of Alex's cell phone. He groans in annoyance. He picks up the phone. "What?"
I continue to eat as I watch him. He quickly looks confused and then frustrated. "Fine. We'll start packing and head back soon. Expect us to arrive in four or five hours." He hangs up the phone and sighs in defeat.
The taste of bacon soon becomes uninteresting. I'm no longer hungry. "We have to go back don't we." He sighs and nods.
"Alice says we need to come back at once. Sorry that we have to cut this short."
I stand up and help Alex cleaning up. "Don't be. Hopefully we can come back soon."
Alex looks at me with his signature smirk. "Oh we will. This is your house after all. Well, ours technically." I stop and stare at him.
"What?"
"I bought this house for us. Call it a graduation present."
"You bought me a house as a graduation present?" This man never ceases to surprise me.
I look up into Alex's eyes as he pulls me into him.
"I know you like your privacy and I thought this was a good place where me and you could spend some time together. The falls are beautiful here and there a woods for miles. No neighbors. No one will bother us here."
"And the perfect place to go hunting," I add.
"You know me so well." Alex brings my lips to his. My arms wrap around Alex's neck. I start to deepen the kiss when my phone starts ringing.
"Ugh." I back away from Alex and pick up my phone. I don't bother looking at the caller ID. I already know who it is. "What Alice?"
"You can finish that later. You need to start packing and coming back home right now. This is an urgent matter Sophie." Alice sounds really serious.
"Fine Alice. We'll be on our way shortly." I hang up the phone and look at the vampire in front of me. "Rain check. Alice needs us now." Alex just nods his head and kisses me on the forehead.
Alex speeds into the room and packs everything up. I quickly change into jeans a shirt. We are soon on the road; heading back to Forks. I have a good idea on what Alice vision was. The coldness of Alex's hand gives me comfort.
We soon arrive back to the house exactly four hours later. I didn't know if I should be happy to be back or not. I'm already missing our getaway destination.
Alice meets up at the door. She looks nervous. "Before the two of you go in, you should be prepared for the worse."
Confusion comes over me. "What do we need to prepare for?" It's only when Alex stands next to me in the entrance to the house; when an earth shattering growl fills the air. Before I can react, Alex is shoved again a tree behind me. Holding him up by the neck is Edward.
"Edward!" I try to make my way over to him but Emmett holds me back.
"Are you crazy! You could have hurt her!" Edward roars.
"Edward! Stop it!" I try to plea to him but my words land on deaf ears. He looks furious.
"I don't really think this is any of your business Edward." Edward shoves Alex further into the tree.
"I make it my business when it concerns my sister. You were being careless and reckless." Edward's grip on Alex tightens and I start to see cracks beginning to form. A wave of panic overcomes me.
Alex could save himself, but he doesn't want to use his powers anymore. He would rather die than use them to save himself. I have to stop this.
"Emmett, let me go!" I shout and I manage to wiggle out of his grip. I soon run over to them before I can be stopped. "Edward, stop it!"
He doesn't acknowledge me. His gaze is solely on Alex.
"Edward, stop!" I place my hand on his shoulder and try to push him back. Easier said than done. It was like pushing against a stone wall. "Edward please!" My tone becomes desperate. One more push seems to bring him back to reality.
He looks at me with dark eyes. I freeze underneath his gaze. It was as if a spell was lifted. He looks at me and see's the distress in my face. He gives Alex one last look before releasing him. I rush to Alex just as Edward is backing away. I look over his face and neck for major damage. The cracks starts to mend back together.
I'm on the verge of tears. "I'm ok," Alex says. He pulls me into his arms and kisses my head.
"Why?" I whirl around to Edward and glare at him. "Why Edward?"
"He could have hurt you Sophie."
"Yet, he didn't. I'm perfectly fine."
"Define perfect Sophie." Edward points at my exposed shoulder. I pull the shirt up to cover the bruises.
"I knew what I was doing. I knew it would be tricky. It's just a couple of bruises. I've had so much worse than this. Remember when I broke my leg at the age of nine? That was so much worse than this."
"I have to apologize for that. I didn't really handle my strength well," says Alex. Edward's eyes blaze.
"There won't be a next time!" Can Alex ever keep his thoughts to himself.
"Stay out of my head," hisses Alex.
"Believe me, I'm trying. Your thoughts are really loud though!"
"Edward. You don't get a say in this. This matter is between me and Alex. If I want to do it again, then I will. This is a mutual decision between the two of us. You might not approve of us doing this while I'm still human, but this is my life! My life Edward, not yours. It is my decision. If you don't like the concept of a vampire and a human together then you need to bring this up to Bella. What the two of you decide to do is between the two of you. I'm going to live my life with him. I want to have as much human experience that I can while I'm still human. I have a couple of years to enjoy myself. Bella wants to be changed soon. I would suggest that you talk to her and worry about her since her humanity is ticking away." Tears stream down my face. I didn't want to have this conversation.
Edward looks at me and sighs. "Just be careful." I nod in response. "I'm going to go hunt. I'll see you later." Without another word, he is gone. I felt that I could finally breathe.
Its then that I notice my family staring at the two of us. "So. How did it go?" Emmett starts wiggling his eyebrows.
Blood rushes to my face. "Emmett, no. We are not having this discussion." I quickly wipe away my tears.
Emmett looks over at Jasper. "Hey Jasper. Want to bet how many times Sophie and Alex will play together before she becomes a vampire?"
My eyes widen. "Emmett! We are not doing this bet!"
"We'll see," replies Emmett. I feel Alex's body shaking.
I look up to see him laughing. "Hey Emmett, can I get in on this bet."
"Alex!" I slap his chest playfully.
"What?" I smile at him. This man will be the death of me.
"This is all good and all, but we really need to talk." I look to see Alice. Her face is grave.
"What is it Alice?"
She sighs. "After you and Alex left, I had a vision." I was in my own bubble last night that I completely forgot about the upcoming events.
"They're coming here." Is all I say.
"Yes."
"How long?"
"They'll be here in five days."
"Why didn't you call us to come back?" I feel like a failure.
"I didn't want to spoil your night. You looked so happy. You told us they were coming but we didn't know exactly when. When do I have this vision in the books?"
I sigh in defeat. "You have the vision during the party. I completely forgot to mention that detail. If I remembered, then we would have never left." Alex goes rigid. I quickly turn to him to ease his worries. "Don't think that. I enjoyed last night. I loved being with you. I don't regret anything. I just wish I could have been here to help everyone with the details." His body relaxes some.
"Are you a mind reader now," he hums in response.
"No. I just know you." I grab his hand and give it a squeeze. I turn back to Alice. "What's the plan Alice?"
"What happens next in the story?" That's all she says.
"You meet with the wolves to talk strategy and how to fight." I pause in thought. "You've formed an alliance with them." It's not a question. Alice just nods.
"It'll give you and Bella more protection," interjects Jasper. "They were passing Bella's clothes around, gathering her scent. There are too many for us to take on. They gives us the numbers and they won't even know that the wolves exist. It'll give us an edge." I suddenly see the civil war solider in Jasper appear. He looks calm but calculated. He's observant.
"We're meeting with them today. That's why I called you to come back early. We want to give you more protection. Not that you really need it with being will Alex. He can protect you just fine. It's more to appease Rosalie. She's been worrying about you nonstop. The wolves would be wondering about you too. It'll be easier if they see you unharmed in person," says Alice.
"Fine. But I'm going on a long vacation when this is all over," I say. My sanity needs it. "When do we leave?"
"We meet them in an hour. We are meeting them ten miles due north of the Hoh Forest ranger station. They will be coming in from the west. We need to go ahead and leave."
I just nod my head. "Ok." I look around for the one person that can calm me down at this moment. "Where's Rosalie?" A breeze of wind blows my hair to the side.
"You called?" Rosalie just smiles at me. I engulf her in a hug.
"Can you ride with me. I really need you right now." Her gaze softens.
"Of course." I pull away from her and get into Emmett's jeep. Emmett and Alex sit in the front while I sit in the back with Rosalie. She squeezes my hand in comfort as I stare off into the forest.
So we are now getting closer towards the fight. Would you like me to add more scenes between Sophie and Alex? Hope that you enjoyed this chapter. Until next time!
