Previously:
Her hand tightens around my throat before it slowly loosens. I close my eyes, waiting for her to throw me off of the cliff. This was the end for me.
Sophie's POV
"Stop!" The hand wrapped around my throat pauses. The hand stopped, as if someone pushed pause on a television remote.
My eyes snap open to see Victoria staring at me with wide eyes. Her body started to struggle, as if trying to get her body to move.
I clutch onto her hand tightly and look over to see my rescuer.
Alex stood right behind her. He looked angry. His eyes were no longer liquid gold; they were pitch black.
My boyfriend was here; yet it wasn't him at the same time. It was as if someone was inhabiting his body.
"Victoria, walk backwards and put her down safely." Victoria struggles as she retracts her steps. She slowly backs up before putting me down safely on the rocky surface of the cliff.
However, I landed on my broken ankle which caused me to scream in pain. I was in complete agony.
I looked up in time to watch Alex. He looked angrier. It was as if a monster had taken over him.
Tears stream down my face. I don't know if I should be happy or terrified to see him.
I silently watch as Victoria turns to look at Alex in the eyes.
"You've caused a lot of problems for me Victoria," hisses Alex. "You've come after two girls. One of them being the love of my life. Answer this Victoria. How did you get past Alice's visions?" Alex's voice had changed also. I was no longer hearing his silky smooth voice. His voice was deeper and it was gruff. It was as if an animal that had been living inside him, broke the surface and took over him.
"James...he...told me about her. Alice. What she can do. About her gift. He figured out that she sees the future based on people's decisions," responds Victoria as she struggles.
Victoria is trying to get out of Alex's control. She's trying not to talk.
"So you made others make the decisions for you."
"Yes," she hisses at him.
I look at the two feral animals that stand before me.
"How," Victoria spits out.
"You know that some of us have gifts. I happen to be one of them. I have the power of persuasion. Basically, you have to do everything that I tell you to do. That's why you are answering my questions. It's a powerful gift isn't it." Alex starts to taunt her as he tilts his head to the side.
I no longer know what to think. I'm beyond terrified.
Victoria just growls in response.
I let out a shaky breath and stare at at Alex. Our eyes make contact and something seemed to change in him. His posture went from stiff to a more relaxed position. Something seemed to change in his eyes. I started to see a swirl of gold enter into the black abyss. It was as if the monster subsided and gave Alex full control. He looked at me worriedly before quickly looking back at Victoria.
"Victoria, I want you to walk towards me slowly." Victoria's body obeys his words and she walks towards him.
Alex steps back and then angles his body towards me. He walks over and is soon standing in the position that Victoria was just in.
He just switched their spots. He was standing in front of me, guarding me from Victoria.
I thought my life would be simpler. Being sent to the Twilight Universe was never on my to do list. I loved my family and I don't regret anything.
All of these events weave into this moment. A moment where Alex was about to defend me. To protect me.
I looked into the black eyes of the creature that was Victoria. She craved for my blood and my death. Her body struggled but I knew that she would make her move if Alex got distracted. She would instantly pounce.
Alex continues to stand in front of me and stares for a moment at the creature with flaming red hair.
I took a breath and watched her. It was all like fire and ice.
Everything then changes. A wolf suddenly howls, which causes Alex to break his concentration. He looks to the side just as Victoria slumps down. She instantly screams in anger before launching herself at Alex.
I scream in surprise as Alex lunges forward and tackles Victoria away from me.
Victoria kicks Alex off of her as she twists in my direction. I scramble backwards as she moves towards me. I only stop when I feel that I'm on the ledge of the cliff. Alex appears out of thin air and pushes her away. I glance down at the rocky surface below before crawling away from it. Trying to crawl to a place where I would be safe.
I look up just as he throws her towards a tree. She grabs a branch in her hand and swings her self so that she is crouched down on top of it.
She looks down at us in anger. She bares her teeth before jumping down and slamming into Alex. Knocking him down.
I was staring at them in terror that I almost miss seeing an object falling out of Alex's pocket.
I look over at it just as Alex punches Victoria. He blurs as he goes after Victoria. He goes to punch her again. Victoria uses her speed to quickly grab his hand.
I crawl over to look at the object that landed in the snow. I cradle it in my hands and look up in time to see Victoria holding Alex in a choke-hold. No, no, no.
Alex struggles underneath her. Victoria has her hand firmly on Alex's mouth. Keeping it closed.
He's unable to speak. Alex looks over at me as I see cracks forming. I see the sadness and desperation in his eyes. A wave of panic overcomes me. I can't lose him.
I look at the object in my hand and made a decision.
I flip open the lid to Alex's lighter and scream. The flame bursts out of the lighter as I fling it over into her direction.
A tiny burst of pale white energy erupts from me and combines with the flame that's approaching Victoria.
The flame makes contact with her ankle and she screams in pain. She releases Alex from her hold and he spins away from her. I watch as the flames go from her ankle and slowly travels up her leg. She waves her hand to try to stop the flames.
"Stop." Her whole body freezes and she looks up at Alex in terror. Alex just stares at her with an expressionless face. "Don't move an inch."
Victoria doesn't move as the fire travels up. I watch as her porcelain like skin starts to turn black. I watch as the fire slowly licks up her leg before reaching her hip.
Her screams envelop the air. I wince and clutch my ears. I hated Victoria but I didn't like seeing her suffer like this.
Tears stream down my face and I look up and make eye contact with my boyfriend. His face is unreadable. He would gladly let her stand here and watch her burn to death. He would let her scream until she was nothing but ash.
"Please," I beg him. I wanted her screams to stop. Sympathy and worry enter his eyes and he gives me a quick nod.
He sighs before flashing over to Victoria. He rips her head off with his teeth just as the flames reach her neck. He spins away from her and stares as her body lands on the ground. The flames start to rise. He throws her head into the fire and stares. As if contemplating. It's eerily quiet.
I try to move over to him but a surge of pain erupts in my ankle. I scream in pain at the movement. I forgot about my broken ankle.
Alex looks over at me from my outburst. I cry out and let my body fall flat on the snowy surface. All the adrenaline just left my body and I was now feeling the pain. The pain I was already feeling was intensifying.
Alex speeds over and looks down at me in concern.
"Alex..blo..blooo..blood." Alex's gaze softens. He knows what I mean by my statement. I don't want him to go into a frenzy.
"I'm ok. Your blood doesn't bother me." I nod stiffly.
I try to sit up but only wince. I groan.
Alex places his hands on me. "Careful. You sustained a lot of damage." I nod as I roll over in time to cough. Blood comes out of my mouth. I feel Alex's hands freeze.
"I need to get you to Carlisle." Alex starts to prop me up against him when I hear a rustle in the trees. I look up just as Edward runs out of the forest. He cradles Bella in his arms. His eyes widen at the sight of me before gently putting Bella on the ground.
Edward speeds over to me and tries to touch me. Alex lets out a warning growl and pulls me closer to him.
"Alex, let me look at her. I'm not going to hurt her. I just want to help." Alex's hands grip my shoulders tighter.
"Alex. It's ok. Don't fight right now. Please." I look up into his eyes. He nods.
Edward slowly puts his hands on my face and starts to give me a once over. Edward having a medical degree was coming in handy. His eyes travel from my head, over to my bloody arm before stopping at my ankle. He touches it lightly, causing me to groan in pain.
Alex growls. "Stop. You're going to hurt her." Alex doesn't use his power on Edward. He doesn't need to. Edward pauses and looks at me.
"I'm afraid that you might have broken ribs. We need to get you to Carlisle. Your ankle is broken. I don't think I need to put a splint on it right now. Your hiking boot should keep it in place just fine. Try not to move it." I nod in response.
I was happy that he wasn't going to put a splint on it at this moment. That would hurt.
"What happened?" I ask. Edward grimaces.
"That vampire came out of nowhere. I couldn't get to you in time before Victoria took you. The two vampires we fought were strong. They had been trained unlike the others."
Pieces start to be placed together like a puzzle. "She intended for this to happen. She told me that she was after Bella. I was just a last minute decision. She intended to keep you occupied so that she could kill me or Bella. To make it easier for her."
Edward hummed in agreement. "She didn't expect Seth to be there. The fight was hard. It was like the two of them were in sync. They were able to temporarily knock out Seth. They had me in a head-lock. I probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Bella." I look at Bella and notice a cut on her arm.
"Thank you," I tell her.
She smiles at me. "Of course."
"You were able to kill them?" My voice comes out as a whisper.
Edward nods. "Bella's distraction helped me and Seth to kill Riley and the other vampire. Seth went ahead and ran down to the pack. I came right over here with Bella. I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you sooner."
I shake my head in reply. "Don't be. We had no way of knowing that this would happen. Your ok though. That's what's important right now." Edward smiled at me right before he froze.
His body stopped like it was a block of ice. I felt Alex going rigid from where I was leaning against him. Edward looked at Alex with widened eyes.
"We need to go," says Edward. He stands up in a flash and scoops Bella into his arms. Alex stands up and carefully stands me up, being mindful of my injured ankle. He gently scoops me up in his arms.
"What's going on?" I look over at Edward.
"We need to get to the clearing. I was afraid that this would happen." I stare at him confusingly before realizing what is about to happen.
The Volturi are coming. "Their coming," I say.
Edward just nods. "I'll see you down on the battlefield."
Edward gives me one last stare before turning around and running off into the forest with Bella.
I look at Alex. I can't really decipher what he's thinking. He sighs after a pause. "We better go. Everything is ok now." I nod at his comforting words before he runs into the thick forest.
I kept going back and forth with this chapter. I kept writing it over and over again. I hope you enjoyed it overall. There will only be two or three chapters left for Eclipse. Then we will be getting into Breaking Dawn. Until next time!
