No one told me how I would die. I could never imagine coming to this place. Learning that the Twilight Universe could be real. I've always read the books and watched the movies.
It's at this moment that I feel weightless. Unchanging.
I open up my eyes to find myself in a void. A room, almost. All around me was darkness. I couldn't feel or see anything. Everything was just black.
"What do we do?" A sound echoes into the dark room around me. It almost sounds like a voice but it's muddled. It was as if there was static interfering with the voice.
"What do you want me to do?"
"Change her! She could be dying right now!" Dying? What did it mean by dying? Who was dying?
"No, not like this!"
"It's been three days Rosalie. How long do you think it will be before she wakes up? If she wakes up?"
"She's going to wake up."
"Her brainwaves look fine. I had to put her in an induced coma so that further damage would be prevented."
The voices then triggers something. Memories come hurdling toward me in a Nano-second. The battle, Victoria, the Volturi. Everything was becoming clearer. Looking around into the darkness gave me a clear answer on what was going on.
I had sustained enough damage from Victoria that I was currently in a coma.
"If your not going to change her, then I will. I'm not going to lose her." Wait. What's going on? I hear a yell. Sounds of things being thrown enter the atmosphere. I hear a thud and the sound of something breaking.
I try screaming out. Letting them know that I'm alive, but I'm not receiving an answer. I continue to try screaming, only to realize that nothing is coming out. You can't hear a sound coming out of my mouth. I then feel pressure on my arm. I jolt at the sensation before dread overcomes me. I want to change, but not like this. I'm not dead yet.
No. Stop, stop it! I release a scream out of my mouth. I finally hear my scream as I feel a whoosh of wind before hearing a thud. It's then instantly quiet. Silence is the only thing that greets me.
"Sophie?" Warmth comes over my body. I feel a calm and reassuring hand on my arm. A warm feeling overcomes me. I try to will myself awake. I try to move. Nothing happens.
"Stand back. I think she's trying to wake up. Her defense is going into overdrive." I felt another pressure on my arm, which triggered something.
It was as if someone put on a home video and pressed play. Memories of me growing up in this universe played right in front of me.
I watched as I saw a younger me, running outside our house back in Maine. I laughed as Emmett chased after me before picking me up and spinning us around. I watched as seven year old me started laughing.
The scene suddenly stopped and changed to a different memory. It was as if someone pushed fast forward on a television remote. The motion stopped and a new image was playing before me.
I was lying in my bed, sick. I looked to be eight or nine. Edward was sitting next to me, keeping his hand on my forehead. I saw his lips moving, but I couldn't hear anything. It was as if the mute button was on.
I smiled at the interaction before the scene changed again.
I was now in Denali, with my cousins. Tanya and Kate were throwing me into the snow while Irina watched.
All of us were laughing. Everything seemed simpler then.
The scene suddenly changed. Everything around me got brighter and bigger. I soon find myself standing in a clearing, surrounded by flowers.
I was no longer in a dark room. This wasn't a memory. This was something new entirely.
The lush green of the grass and trees gives out a serene atmosphere.
"Sophie." A voice echoes into the field. The voice sounds muddled. As if it's being muffled by something. I spin around and look around the clearing.
"Sophie," the voice is clearer now. I turn around to see a shadowed figure emerging out of the trees.
The figure walks towards me and it takes me a second to realize that it's Alex standing before me.
I look at him in confusion as he cradles my face. "You need to wake up now Sophie." My body jerks back. I stare at him in confusion.
How can I wake up? I try to ask him but nothing comes out of my mouth. It's as if I am suddenly mute. Panic sweeps through me. Why can't I talk? Why am I stuck here? I feel waves of energy and the sound of a groan.
"Soph, you need to calm down. Relax." I look at the figure of Alex who stands before me. He is unmoving. I let him touch my hand and a calmness overcomes my body.
I lean into the form of my boyfriend and cling onto him. I cling on to him as if my life depends on it. His arms circle around me and I don't pay attention to the golden light that encompasses us.
"That's it. You're ok. Come back, Sophie. For me. I need you. We need you." I stare at Alex one last time and let him press his lips on mine. A warmth comes over me and I give into the sensation.
Beep...beep..beep.
I open my eyes and blink at the bright light.
Ugh. What happened? It takes a couple of seconds before everything becomes clear.
I look at my surroundings. I'm hooked up to an IV and different machines. I look at the monitor that is tracking my heart beat. I breath in and look around the room.
I recognize that I am at my house. Carlisle set up a makeshift hospital room in one of the spare rooms that we have. No one is in the room with me. I'm alone for the moment. I look over and stare out at the window and into the trees. Everything seems so calm. Normal almost.
I sigh and try to sit up. Pain comes over my ribs and I groan. I try to prop myself on my elbows but no luck. I just fall back down. I whimper at the sensation. I think I just made everything worse.
It's at that moment that I'm startled by a BANG. I jump to find that the door is ajar. Standing by the door is none other than Alex.
I freeze at his condition. He has bags under his eyes. His eyes are pitch black like the night. His hair is standing in every different direction. The only pristine thing he has on are the clothes that he is wearing. He still looks like a hallowed shell inside them.
Alex lets out a breath and rushes to my side.
"Hey. You're ok? Your actually awake." I struggle to sit up and he instantly has his arms around me. He helps me into a sitting position and props me up against the pillows. "Careful."
I look at him once I am finally comfortable. "How long was I out."
"About five days," he replies. "Carlisle had to put you in an induced coma. Your injuries were worse than we originally thought."
"What happened?" I look into his eyes. His eyes look pained.
"As soon as the Volturi left, Edward rushed you home. He's faster than all of us. Including me. He just got to the house when you passed out. Carlisle was there in an instant. I arrived to see them hooking you onto these machines. Your heart beat started to slow down. He had to do an emergency surgery. You had broken ribs and one of them was scraping the surface of your lung. You also had internal bleeding. Not to mention your broken ankle. You will be stuck in a cast for a short while."
I look down and move the blanket that covers me aside. Sure enough, a white cast covers my broken ankle. I sigh and put the blanket back into place.
"Anything else?" I ask him. He looks at me with a conflicted look.
"I'm sorry."
I roll my eyes in exasperation. "What are you sorry for this time? Me getting hurt? Almost dying? Or the fact that you never told me about Heidi?" Alex goes rigged.
"That was a long time ago, Sophie." I let out a breath.
"Is what they said true? What Felix and Demitri said. Is it true?"
Alex sighs. "Yes, I used to be with Heidi. But they exaggerated it a little. I ended it way before I left the Volturi. She wasn't too happy about it."
"How long were you with her?" Alex sits on the bed next to me and grabs my hand in his. His silence is starting to worry me. "Please be honest with me. You owe me that much."
He nods his head. "Your right. When Heidi first joined, I was at my highest moment. I was high up in the ranks. My rank was actually almost equal to Jane's. I wore a black cloak like she does. Heidi saw an advantage to use me. Her power helped her also. I was at a moment in my existence where I was bored and lonely. I had my books and going on missions, but I was starting to go insane with the quiet and loneliness that I felt. She used her power of seduction on me at first. I gave into it of course. I then started to get attached. She eventually stopped using her influence on me when she thought I loved her."
"Did you? Love her," I ask in a soft whisper.
"No. I never loved her. I made her think that I did though. It was only physical attraction on my side. I was at a place where I was bored and did anything so I wouldn't be bored."
"How long did this go on for?"
"About eighty years."
"How long ago did you end it?"
"I ended it before I started to leave the Volturi. I told you it took me thirty years of trying to escape. I ended it right when I started my plan to leave. It's been over for almost eighty years."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Trust me. I wanted to. I didn't know how to though. I didn't want you to look at me any different. I was afraid that I would lose you."
"You were afraid that you would lose me because you used to be with Heidi?" He nods in reply. "Alex, sure I'm not thrilled that you used to be with her. But that was back then. It was before I knew you. That's not the thing that upsets me. I'm upset about the fact that you decided to hide this from me."
I give him a long stare but I still hold onto his hand. He was a lifeline for me.
"I know. I will continue to beg for forgiveness for the rest of our lives. As long as you will have me," he tells me.
"Of course I still want you. It's just a little argument. Every couple deals with that." I pause and look into his eyes and see nothing but regret. I give him a little smirk. "So you will make it up to me for all of eternity? That's a long time."
Alex breaks into a smile. "You are well worth it." I let Alex lean down and kiss me. I may be upset with him but I could never truly hate him. I was madly in love with this man.
The banging of the door suddenly breaks us away from each other. Standing in the doorway is Rosalie. Carlisle quickly enters as well.
Carlisle is next to me in an instant and starts to check over me. Carlisle, the good doctor that never stops. "Hey darling. I need to check on everything. Make sure that you are stable." I nod and wordlessly watch him work. I jerk back at the blinding light that he flashes on my eyes. "Sorry. I am almost done."
I continue to let him touch my arms. He checks my throat and then the side where my ribs are at. Probably the ribs that dealt with most of the impact. Lastly, he looks at my ankle before nodding in content. He sends me a smile before stepping back a little.
"What's the diagnosis dad?" Carlisle gives me a charming smile at my comment.
"You should be fine. I would stay off of your ankle for the moment. You will need to keep the cast on for about 5 or 8 weeks. You will then have to wear a boot for a while after. I will keep an eye on it. I would advise against exercising or any activity that would cause you to move around a lot. You need to be careful with your ribs. I will do another check-up on it later."
I nod in appreciation. "Thank you. Hey, Rose." Rosalie is by my bedside and gives me a small smile. She slowly starts raking her fingers in my hair.
"Hey sweetie. You gave us quite a scare. I thought that we lost you."
"Was I that close to death?" She nodded sadly. My heart started to break at the person that stood next to me. Rosalie looked broken. I could tell that she would be crying if she was able to. "I'm sorry," I tell her.
"No don't be. That wasn't your fault. You're here. That's what matters."
"How am I still alive? If I was so close to death, then wouldn't you have just changed me?"
"Trust me. I tried." Alex keeps a grip on my hand.
"You tried?" I question.
"Rosalie wanted us to wait before changing you. You were getting worse and I thought that we should go ahead and turn you. My instincts kicked in and I tried to push everyone away in order to get to you."
"You weren't pushing. More like throwing us out of the room. You even told Jasper to not move and prevented him from using his ability to calm down the situation," says Rosalie while rolling her eyes.
"You did what!" I exclaim.
"Not my brightest moment," he responds. "I was able to get to you and had placed my hands on your arms before I was thrown off. Left a dent in the wall too." He points to the wall that is closer to the door. Sure enough, a dent is visible in the plaster. A small chunk of plaster was missing from it also.
"How did that happen?"
"I think whatever power you have, decided to protect you," responds Carlisle.
"That energy of yours really knocked me down. It prevented me from changing you. We couldn't get near you. It was acting as a warning."
"I'm sorry," I said to him. Alex answers me with a chuckle.
"Why are you sorry? I'm fine. Esme's not too thrilled about it though," he tells me. I groan.
"Great. This will probably come out of my non-existent allowance money." Carlisle laughed.
"Don't worry about that. Everything is fine. You will be fine also." I nod and looked at the three of them.
"Where is everyone?"
"Alice, Emmett and Jasper are out hunting right now. Esme is downstairs, probably getting you something to eat. Your probably starving." My stomach chooses that moment to growl.
"Food sounds good," I reply while laughing. I stop laughing at the sharp pain in my side. "Ugh," I groan.
"Careful," Carlisle reminds me. I just give him a nod.
"What about Edward?"
"He's out with Bella. He took her to their meadow." Memories from the end of Eclipse flashes in my mind. They are currently talking about their future and starting to plan their wedding.
"I guess they are going to tell Charlie about getting engaged," I say. Rosalie nods.
"Yes." I let Rose's short answer go. I know she still isn't on board with this. Alex shrugs his shoulder. One thing that Alex and Rosalie had in common was their dislike for Bella. Alex and Edward didn't really get along either. They were mostly cordial for my sake.
"Well. When's the wedding? Alice is probably excited about planning it."
Rose laughs. "You have no idea. Alice has been trying to distract herself these last couple of days by planning it. She even has Bella's wedding gown."
"Has she shown it to Bella yet?"
"Yes. Bella loves it. She thinks it's traditional and fits the era that Edward's from. I think they are shooting for an August wedding."
I hum in reply. I release a yawn. "We'll let you rest. I'll have Esme come up in about an hour with food," says Carlisle.
I nod my head sleepily. "Thank you." I smile as Rosalie and Carlisle kiss my forehead before walking out of the room. The only person in the room with me now was Alex.
"So? I ask him.
"What do you mean?" he asks me.
"What's the next step for us. If my memory serves me right, you asked me to move in with you." Alex stares at me.
"Do you still want to? Even after you being injured and learning about Heidi. You still want to move in with me? Away from your family?"
I nod. "Heidi is only a little bump in the road. That happened in the past. Sure, I will miss my family. But I want to be with you. Just the two of us. We'll only be four hours away. I have to leave soon also. I can't be around Bella when she changes."
Alex shakes his head in amazement. "You never cease to surprise me."
"When do we leave?" I smile up at him.
"Let's stay here for a couple of weeks so that Carlisle can keep an eye on you. When he feels that you are better, we can move." I look into the eyes of my vampire boyfriend. His eyes seem to glow in happiness.
"I love you," I tell him.
"I love you too." Alex leans down and kisses my lips.
It's at this moment that I am completely at bliss. I wasn't going to worry about what tomorrow might bring. I was going to bask in the present and enjoy however much time I have left with the man that I have fallen in love with.
This man, was my forever.
Well, that is the end of Eclipse. Just to clarify, Sophie has no memory of her being in the dark void before waking up. I wanted to create that scene because I wanted her to reflect a little on her life here before more events happen. Breaking Dawn is coming next. I am actually excited to be writing it at the moment. I hope you enjoyed this little filler chapter. Until next time!
