The drive to La Push didn't take too long. It was actually nice to be on my own for the moment. My family's constant hovering has grown tiresome. I know that they mean well though. Comes with being a human in a family of vampires.
The terrain on the reservation was a sight to behold. The cliffs in La Push that overlook the ocean gives off an other worldly beauty. I look to the side as I round the corner along the ocean line. Memories from jumping off the cliff come at me full force. That was a scary situation that I do not want to relive. I could still feel the cold water around my body as I sunk deeper into the ocean. I shake my head so that these thoughts would go away. Let's not think about that right now.
I pause in contemplation as I continue driving. The reservation is beautiful but I need to take a mental photograph of it. I won't be allowed on their lands once I change. Not that I go over here often anyways. It was just nice to see something other than Forks.
I look down at the directions that I was given to Sam and Emily's house. I have been there before so I kind of knew what area to go to. Bella sent me detailed directions. Sure enough, after 25 minutes of driving, I was pulling into the driveway of Sam and Emily's house.
I just parked my car and got out when the front door swung open.
"Sophie!" Bella runs over to me and grabs me into a hug. So this is new. I'm not used to Bella being this excited. She's always so introverted.
I laugh and wrap my arms around her. "Hey. Long time no see."
"Three weeks isn't that long," she replies.
"Tell that to Emmett," I respond while laughing.
"What the hell is that?" says a new voice. I look over Bella's shoulder to see the pack coming out of the house.
"Well, Jared. This is my car."
"Seriously?! That's a Bentley Continental GTC. It's one of the most expensive cars out there right now!" exclaims Embry. I watch as he gets closer to it and stares at it in awe.
"Careful Embry. I don't want you to imprint on my car now." I'm met with a handful of laughs while Embry just grimaces at me.
"Would I love to see that." I look over to see Paul Lahote making his way over to me. To say that he confuses me would be an understatement. For some reason, I've formed a love hate relationship with the shapeshifter. He was constantly annoying me but I couldn't hate him for it. I saw him as another brother; almost. A very annoying brother.
"Well, look what the cat dragged in," I reply sarcastically.
"You're on my rez remember princess?" I roll my eyes at his theatrics. "Those vamps of yours finally release you from their lair?"
"Paul, we don't live in a dungeon. Just came over to pick Bella up. We need to go. Alice is currently going into crazy pixie mode." Bella groans.
"Why did I agree to letting her plan my wedding?"
"Because you love us and you would hate to disappoint her." I give her a smile which she returns.
"Sophie, it's so good to see you." I look over to find Emily walking over to me. She wraps me into a hug.
"Hi, Emily. It's good to see you."
"How are you're injuries? Sam told me about them. Are you feeling better?" I look down at my foot that's covered by a boot.
"Everything is good. Feeling a lot better actually. I'm just glad that I no longer have to wear a cast on my foot."
"Well, that's good to hear because Paul was going crazy after we left the battlefield," says Quil. What?
"What?" I turn to look at Paul who was glaring at Quil.
"Yeah, he was constantly asking us what was going on with you. Even cornered Carlisle when he came to fix Jacob," replied Jared as he laughed.
"I did not corner him. I simply asked him a question," Paul protested.
"Please. You threatened him. Said that he better save you or else," interjected Sam who was also laughing.
Paul just grumbled under his breath. I just sent him a small smile. It was sort of nice, knowing that he cared about my well-being.
"Well, it was great seeing all of you but I need to bring Bella back to Forks. My sister is probably freaking out right now."
Emily nods and gives me a small smile. "Ok. Hope to see you soon Sophie." I send her a smile in return before hopping back into my car.
I start driving back to Forks as soon as Bella was in the passenger seat.
"So. How's wedding planning going?"
Bella groans. "Is Alice always like this?"
"Pretty much. She just wants everything to be perfect."
"She's wanting me to wear heels. Why can't I just go barefoot?"
"Trust me. Alice will not let you go barefoot down the aisle. I have some white flats that you can wear for the reception. They aren't tennis shoes so she should be ok with it." Bella let's out a breath.
"Sophie, you are a life saver." I laugh in reply.
"So what's been going on since I've been gone?"
Bella grows quiet. "Jake's gone. Dad put missing flyers up for him." I sigh and nod. Jacob ran away as soon as he received Edward and Bella's wedding invitation.
"I was afraid of that."
"Is this part of the book?"
"Yes, he runs away at the end of Eclipse. Don't worry though. He comes back."
"So I will see him again?"
I have to choose my words carefully. "Yes, you see him again."
"Good, because Billy is starting to get worried. He called Rebecca and Rachel to see if they've seen him." Rebecca and Rachel Black. Jacob Black's older twin sisters. Bella grew up with them. Rebecca ran off and married a Samoan surfer as a teenager. They currently live in Hawaii. At least I think they do. That's what is stated in the books.
She doesn't come home often because tickets from Hawaii are expensive. I think that's an excuse because memories of her dead mother are over here. She can't stand to see Billy's house because of her deceased mother.
Rachel wasn't much better. She goes to Washington State University. She's probably graduated by now or close to graduating. Rachel uses her college classes as an excuse to not come back to La Push. She takes summer classes so that she can stay in Pullman, Washington. She graduates early because she decided to take summer classes.
Rachel should be here soon. She's also Paul's imprint. They meet each other at the beach where he imprints on her. Jacob and Billy aren't going to be thrilled about that. One good thing about Rachel coming, Paul will finally leave me alone.
"Have they seen him?"
Bella shakes her head. "No. Rachel is more likely to see him because Rebecca lives in Hawaii. Rachel said she would keep an eye out for him. She's actually coming back home soon. Graduated early." Yep, bingo. I was right. Paul would imprint soon.
The car then gets quiet. I decided to change the subject. "Did you invite everyone on the reservation?" Hopefully she understands my change of subject.
"Not everyone. Just Jacob and Billy, the Clearwater's, Emily and the pack."
"So basically, everyone." Me and Bella join together in laughter. It was really nice to have some alone time with Bella. I wouldn't get too much of this in the future. "Who's RSVPed?"
"Well. Billy, Seth, and Sue Clearwater said they would be coming. Leah is not. Doesn't want to be around any vampires. She also doesn't like me. Emily might come and if she comes then Sam will. Jared, Embry, and Quil said that they were busy that night. Paul has yet to decide. I'm not sure about Jacob."
I nod in understanding. "Sounds like you will have quite the turn out." Bella cracks a smile. "I'm excited for you to meet my cousins."
"Oh, the Denali clan correct?" I give her a wide smile.
"Yes. There is Tanya, Kate, Irina, Eleazer and Carmen. All of them helped raise me. Alex used to live with them also. He's excited that they are coming. Hopefully, you will get to meet Charlotte and Peter soon."
"Who?" asks Bella.
I sigh. "Of course Edward wouldn't talk about them." I sigh as I roll my eyes. "Peter and Charlotte were part of the Southern army that Jasper was a part of. You remember his story, correct?" Bella nods her head in reply. "Jasper and Peter were close with each other. Peter was actually second in command, right behind Jasper. Maria changed Peter. Charlotte was later created. Long story short, Peter and Charlotte grew close. Maria didn't want the newborns to live past their first year. When it was time for Charlotte's demise, Peter ran away with her. Leaving Jasper behind. Jasper was still in the Southern coven for five more years. Peter went back for him and Jasper left right after."
"Why wouldn't Edward tell me about them? I would have invited them to the wedding." I gave her a small smile.
"Peter and Charlotte aren't on my family's diet."
Bella's eyes widen. "Oh. So they drink.."
"Human blood. Yes. I think Edward didn't want them to come because of that. Also, Peter doesn't have the greatest self control. It surprised everyone when Peter didn't try to kill me when I first met him. I was seven I believe. Peter and Charlotte became a surrogate aunt and uncle to me. Peter can be a little intimidating but he's sweet underneath everything." Bella smiles at me in response.
"I do have a question for you," asks Bella. I look at her and she starts to fidget with her fingers.
"Ok. What do you want to know?"
"Have you and Alex. Um.." She waves her hands around in the air and I quickly understand what she is trying to ask.
"Oh. Um, yes we have. Quite a few times actually." I feel heat rush to my cheeks. I cough. "Um. Why do you ask?"
"I know it's silly but, me and Edward have a deal. You probably already know about this, correct?"
I sigh. There's no beating around the bush with her. "Yes. I do know about this."
"What is it like? Edward is scared that he will hurt me but I have faith in him. I know he won't hurt me."
"I honestly would rather not talk about my sex life. I feel a little uncomfortable talking about it. Though to answer your question, it's fine. Great actually. Edward has too much restraint on himself. You will be fine. Look at me. I'm still standing." Bella sends me a smile.
"I'm just nervous about it."
"Bella, you will be ok."
"Is it hard though?" What is she trying to imply?
"Is what hard?"
"Not having kids. I know my parents want me to have kids one day but I don't know how to break it to them. I can't just say 'hey mom and dad. I can't have kids because Edward's a vampire.' That would not go over well."
I don't say anything for a moment. Should I tell her that she will get pregnant but it will almost kill her in the process? "Oh. Uh. I don't really have to worry about that anyways. I can't have kids. The car accident that I was in as a kid caused some complications for me. Basically it's pretty much impossible for me to become pregnant."
Bella looks shocked. "Sophie, I'm sorry."
I just shake my head. "Don't be. I never really thought about if I wanted kids. I guess being raised by vampires made me not think about it." Silence engulfs the two of us as we enter Forks territory.
I soon pull into my old household. "Do you miss being here?" asks Bella.
"Sometimes. I'm happy where I am at though. I can't be near you soon anyways."
Bella nods in understanding. "Right. You will still be human when I turn." I give her a small smile.
"It won't be for too long. Just for a couple of years." The both of us get out of my car and we head to the back of the house.
Our backyard has been transformed into a beautiful wedding venue. Log benches line up with the aisle. Flowers hang from the arch the will be behind Edward and Bella. Things were actually coming together.
"Well, it's about time you showed up!" Alice appears out of thin air. "Come on. You have to practice walking in your shoes." Bella groans and looks at me for help.
I just raise my hands in surrender. I am not getting between this. Do not anger the pixie. She looks at me in exasperation as Alice drags her away. I just wave at her in response.
"Save me," a whisper says into my ear. I smile and turn to look at Edward who now stands beside me. I laugh and hug him. It was good to see him after three weeks.
"I don't think that's possible at this point. Alice has been unleashed and I am not getting in the middle of that hurricane." Edward smiles and kisses me on the head.
"I'm glad you're here. It's been weird not having you with us."
"Well, you have me for two days." I smile at him and then pause. "How long will it be until I see you again?"
Edward gets quiet. "I don't know. I'm going to change Bella once our honeymoon is over. I don't know if I will be able to see you before then."
"So in a couple of years then," I say. Edward sighs and stuffs his hands in his pockets.
"Yeah, probably so." I nod. I knew this was coming, but I'm going to miss seeing him everyday. I probably won't be able to see my family often either. Emmett and Rosalie did say that they would come visit when they can.
All of them would be on Bella patrol duty during her first year. Though, I am not sure how everything is going to go. Will Bella become pregnant? Will I come back in order to help her? Will she still have her sense of control when she turns?
Some things have been altered by my presence and I am unsure if the same can be said for this situation.
"What's wrong? You seem sad." I jolt and look over at Edward.
I try to give him a reassuring smile. "Nothing. Just lost in my thoughts. Just going to miss you is all."
"It's only for a little while." I hum in reply.
"You'll need to tell me how many villages Bella will devour," I joke. Trying to lift the mood. Edward starts laughing.
"I bet you're going to be worse." I chuckled.
"Maybe." Edward looks to the side and I see him making eye contact with Bella.
"Excited?" I ask.
Edward just grins and nods his head. "Yeah. I've waited almost an eternity for this moment." I smile at him.
"I'm happy for you." I watch as Alice shoos Bella away. Telling her to go home. "Well. You might want to take Bella home. I'll see you tomorrow morning. I'm assuming that you are going on your bachelors party."
"Just a couple of mountain lions." I smile and give him one last hug.
"Go. I'll see you tomorrow." Edward gives me one last smile before walking away.
Hopefully, everything will go smoothly.
So, the wedding is coming up. Just another filler. Until next time!
