3rd POV
Confusion was the only thing that Paul could think about. Why would Sam be calling him to come back home now? Something about this didn't feel right.
"Paul. Stop." Paul didn't miss how Jacob practically chased after him. Paul ignored him as he kept walking. He needed to get back to his alpha.
Paul continued to walk but finally stopped at Jacob's voice. "Paul, you wait one damn minute." Paul stills and growls at him. He turns and glares at the younger shifter.
"What do you want Black?" he hisses at him.
"Why did Sam call you? It's too early for you to go see him." Paul rolls his eyes.
"How would I know what he wants? He didn't say on the phone. Just that he needs me."
"That is why I don't like this. It's obvious that he's planning something." Paul looks at Jacob emotionlessly. He had to agree with Jacob. Sam was planning something.
"Obviously," says Paul while stuffing his hands into the pockets of his shorts. "Look. I don't like this either but I have to go. I'll see what he wants and figure things out from there."
Jacob huffs but freezes at the sound of a scream. Paul tensed as he looked at the house. They both knew that was Sophie screaming.
With every fiber in his body, Paul wanted to go back inside and make sure that she was ok. He was conflicted on what to do but at the end of the day, she wasn't his imprint. If she was then he would have stayed behind, but she wasn't. He had to go back to the reservation.
Paul looked at Jacob. Jacob sighed. "Go. I'll make sure that she's ok. Be careful Paul. Lines are being drawn."
Paul nodded his head and snorted. "Please, lines have already been drawn. Thanks." Paul looked one last time at the house before running into the forest and shifting.
Jacob had an uneasy feeling about this. He sighed and looked at the house. Jacob wanted to see if Sophie was ok, but knew that they probably needed a little bit of space for the time being.
Jacob takes his clothes off and shifts into his wolf form. He stretches out his limbs and runs in the direction where Leah's at.
"About time you showed up," Leah says.
"Yeah, well something came up." Jacob shows her the memory of Paul needing to leave because Sam called him. Leah huffs in annoyance.
"Something isn't right about this." She states.
Jacob snorts. "You think? I don't like this."
"What are you going to do?"
Jacob pauses at Leah's question. What was he going to do? "Alert me as soon as Paul gets back. Based on Sophie's scream, I think the house is going into lockdown. I'm going to patrol the north end of the property. You go west."
"Off on another vampire errand," Leah grumbles.
"You got a problem with that?" asks Jacob.
"Nope. I just love working with leeches. I'll see ya later oh high and mighty Alpha."
Jacob growls at her comment while she barks out a laugh. Leah then turns on her paws and bolts to the western rim of the property.
It felt like hours when Leah and Jacob met up at a trail not too far from the house after patrolling the perimeter. Leah and Jacob started to follow the trail and continue to scan the area. The mountains that they fought the newborns at were becoming visible to them. It brought back the memory of them helping the Cullens to protect the towns.
"What's Seth doing right now?" Jacob hasn't seen him since this morning.
"He's inside the parasites den, sleeping. Mother leech, or Esme, offered him the couch and he gladly accepted. I don't get how he can be so friendly to those things," thought Leah.
Jacob couldn't help but to agree with Leah. Seth was overly friendly with them. Then again, that was just his personality. Jacob was at least glad that Seth was taking a break from patrolling. Jacob looked over at Leah and noticed how tired she looked.
"You look tired Leah. Maybe we should go back so that you can rest."
Leah snorts. "And sleep in that dungeon? No thanks."
"Leah, you need to sleep."
"I'm fine Jacob. What do you think Sam is planning?" Leah tries to change the subject and Jacob sighs but gives in.
"I don't know. Sam doesn't have the element of surprise. I worry that they will try something when those things are born. I honestly don't know. We'll just have to keep a lookout."
"You know, you've really done a one-eighty Jacob. You've changed so much."
"Yeah. You're not exactly the same Leah I've always known and loved either." Leah barks out a laugh at Jacob's comment.
"True. At least I'm less annoying than Paul." Jacob couldn't help but to agree with Leah. Paul has been getting on everyone's nerves.
Jacob and Leah begin to run in silence. They circle back around and start to head back towards the house. They both stop running when they get close to their destination.
Jacob sees Leah looking at him. "Thank you," she says.
"For what?" asks Jacob.
"For letting me stay. You've been a lot nicer than I would have expected. Much more than I deserve."
"No, problem. I actually don't mind having you around."
Leah snorted at Jacob's comment. "Easy Black. Don't go soft on me now."
Jacob barks a laugh. "Don't let it go to your head."
"Ok. To be honest, you make a really good Alpha. You're not like Sam. You are worth following Jacob. I'm actually glad to be part of your pack." Jacob looks at Leah in surprise.
"Er, thanks." Jacob doesn't know what else to say. Leah Clearwater was actually giving him a compliment.
"Don't mention it." Leah uses that as a cue to start yawning. Jacob could also hear her stomach growling.
Jacob wanted to protest at Leah's comment. He didn't plan on this pack situation to be a permanent thing. As if on cue, Seth trots over to them in his wolf form. "Hey guys. What did I miss?"
"Good your awake. I was just about to have you switch places with Leah."
"You are doing what! There is no way I am going to sleep in that house," Leah protests.
"Oh, come on Leah. It's not bad. Their couch is really comfortable. Esme even made some chicken. There is plenty for the two of you," says Seth.
"I am not going into that house. I am not eating their food either." Leah's stomach continues to growl.
"Leah, you're hungry. Go eat," continues Seth.
"I can manage to hunt some animals. I can live off of that. I'll even sleep on the ground. Anything is better than going in there."
"Enough," orders Jacob. "Leah, go inside and eat the food. Then go to sleep. You aren't good to me tired and hungry. Go, that's an order." Jacob starts to use his Alpha voice. He needed Leah to rest.
Leah growls at him. "Fine, but I do not like this." Leah turns on her paws and makes her way to the house. Jacob and Seth notice how she shifts and grabs some clothes by a tree. She then disappears from their sight.
Jacob glances at Seth. "How is she doing?" Jacob was wondering how Sophie was doing.
Seth whined. "Not good. I overheard that one or two of her ribs are broken and Carlisle is afraid that her pelvis will break too. She's being optimistic though. She's still alive."
Jacob huffed. Of course she would be optimistic. Trying to make light of a bad situation. She was a lot like Bella. "For now. She's getting worse. Even with all of the blood she's drinking now. It's not only making her stronger; it's making the babies stronger as well."
"She may not die, you know."
"She's not going to survive this Seth. If she lives then she will become a vampire. Bella too. They won't get out of this as humans." Seth whined. He knew that Jacob was right.
"What do we do now Jacob?"
"For right now, all we can do if patrol the area. Alert me as soon as Paul gets back."
"Oh, that reminds me. Alex says that he's no longer allowed inside the house. States that he's the reason that Sophie's ribs broke," says Seth. Jacob pauses.
"I figured as much. Just keep me posted."
"On it." Seth didn't say anything else as he ran away. Jacob huffed and sat on the ground. He knew that Sophie and Bella would be giving birth any day now. He just needed to be on alert until that moment happened.
Seconds turned into minutes which turned into hours. It was now dark. Jacob didn't have a watch but he thought it was probably close to 10:30 pm. Maybe a little close to 11:00. Jacob would be lying if he said he wasn't hungry and tired.
He decided to check on things and shifted back to his human form. He grabbed his spare clothes by a tree and put them on before walking towards the house.
He stopped in his tracks when he saw the pixie like vampire sitting on the steps.
"What are you doing outside?" he questioned her.
"Headaches," she replies.
"Vampires gets headaches?"
"Not the normal kind," she responds.
"Is that why you haven't been following Sophie and Bella around?"
"Yeah. It's not them. It's the...fetuses. They are preventing me from seeing Sophie and Bella's futures now. They've disappeared. Just like I can't see any of you guys. The fetuses are blocking my view and it's giving me headaches."
Jacob nods. "How's it going in there?"
"Things are settled for now. Sophie's pelvis broke along with her ribs. Bella's got a cracked rib too." Alice started to sulk.
"When do you think it's going to happen?" When would they give birth?
"Soon. Any day now. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened tonight. Poor Sophie doesn't have much time left."
That statement put him on edge. "What do you mean that Sophie doesn't have much time left?"
"The fetuses got really hungry after breaking her ribs and pelvis. They went on a feeding spree. The blood supply for Sophie should have lasted until tomorrow." Alice pauses and looks up at Jacob. Jacob puts the pieces together.
"It's all gone, isn't it? The supply for Sophie is all gone."
Alice nodded. "She drinking the last of it right now. Bella still has plenty set aside for her. Not much time for her either." Jacob sighs. He was afraid that this would happen. Alice stared at Jacob a moment longer. "Has he come back yet?"
Jacob shakes his head. "No. He's still missing." Alice pursed her lips but didn't say anything else. Everyone had a bad feeling about this.
Jacob sighed and looked up. "I'm going to see how everyone is doing."
Alice nods her head. "Ok. Make sure to eat something. There's still chicken available for you to eat." Jacob nods his head in appreciation and walks inside.
Sophie's POV
The day wore on and it was currently almost 11 pm. I was beyond tired but I couldn't sleep. I sighed and drank the last of the blood that I had. It was all gone. Stupid hormones caused me to cry when Alex handed me the cup. He held onto me while assuring me that everything would be ok.
I mustered up enough strength to get me through. All I could do now was wait until the babies came. "Irina, can you take this please?" I ask her weakly. Irina comes over and carefully takes my empty cup into her hand. She looks at me fearfully. She was worried. Everyone was worried. I just hoped that she wasn't having second thoughts on supporting my decision on keeping my babies.
She gives me a small smile and leaves to go throw the cup away in the kitchen.
I sigh and groan at the movement inside of me and try to sit up. "Kate, can you help me up please? My legs are stiff." Kate flies over to me and gently helps me to stand up. I wobble and Tanya is there to help steady me. I smile at them weakly. "Thanks."
I look over at Bella who is standing next to Rosalie. Bella's been playing around with baby names. Bella laughs as Jacob comes into the house.
"What's so funny?" he asks.
"Bella was just telling us the names she picked out for the baby. Rosalie hates them," I tease.
"I don't hate all of them."
"What did you decide?" asks Jacob.
"If it's a boy, EJ."
"EJ?" Jacob looks confused.
"Edward Jacob," Bella says simply.
Jacob raises his eyebrows. "Ok," he says slowly. I notice that Edward is beaming at Bella.
"Tell him the name if it's a little girl," says Rosalie.
"I was playing around with our mothers names. Renee and Esme. So I thought of Renesmee." I see Jacobs eyes widen. I laugh at his expression.
"Renesmee?" he says carefully.
Bella smiles. "Too weird?" she asks.
"Uhhh.." Jacob trails off before Edward interrupts him.
"No. It's beautiful. It certainly fits the situation." Edward walks over to Bella and hands her a fresh cup of blood.
I look at Jacob when he glances at me. "What about you? Have you decided on names?" I feel Tanya moving away from me so that Alex could hold me up. I look into his topaz eyes before looking back at Jacob.
"No, not really. I probably should. I've thought of a couple of names for girls and a couple for boys. I've had to think of multiple names just in case I have two girls or two boys."
"Want to tell him?" asks Alex.
"I was thinking about Caroline, Margaret, or Eleanor for the girl or girls. For boys I was thinking Oliver or George. I also thought about Alexander, after their father." Alex squeezes my arm and smiles. He softly kisses my head.
Jacob doesn't say anything. He just nods. I sigh in content as I feel the movement inside my belly slow down. "How much longer?" he asks.
"One more day probably," says Bella as she pats her stomach.
I nod my head in agreement. "Probably tomorrow. Soon." I look at my family that stand in the room with us. Edward and Rosalie stand close to Bella. Kate and Tanya stand next to me while Alex holds me in his arms. I was grateful to have a family that loved us and helped me throughout this process.
"Whoops- oh no!" My head snaps up to Bella as her grip on her cup slips and falls to the ground. The blood splatters onto the rug when we all hear a snap.
"Oh!" My eyes widen as Bella gasps. I watch in terror as she bends backyards. Her spine just broke. I watched as everyone watches her in terror. Bella slips away from Rosalie and onto the floor. Edward is there to catch her in time. That's when her screaming started.
It was a blood curdling scream. I could see Bella withering in pain as Edward took Bella upstairs that was to be the delivery room. Rosalie was right on his heels. The baby was coming. I look over at Jacob who wears a face of terror. He quickly bolts up the stairs. Following Bella's screams.
I hear yelling and recognize the voices. Carlisle was up there to help deliver her baby. I am so glad that I told them to store blood here.
Another scream fills the air. That scream led to a domino effect.
I feel movement in my belly. It starts out slow before getting faster. Another shriek seems to trigger something because the next thing I feel is my spine breaking. I scream in pain as I bend over to vomit blood. Blood pours out of my mouth and further stains the rug.
I feel myself slipping in and out of consciousness. I slump out of Alex's hold and fall to the floor. I feel someone catching me in time before I can collide with the hard surface. I barely register the cries of alarm and the sensation of Alex racing me into another room. The only thing that I register is my blood curdling screams of pain. I've never felt pain like this before. It was worse than the bite that James gave me.
The babies were coming.
So I decided that the birthing scene will be in the next chapter. I'm going to warn you. It's going to be a little graphic. I will put warnings up for that chapter. Can't believe Sophie's pregnancy is almost over. What do you think the genders are going to be? Any name suggestions? I'm excited for the next coming chapters. Until next time!
